Ok, here we go... In Eau Claire Wisconsin on business and Yelping to find an acceptable place for a business dinner with good friends. What pops up?? Mona Lisa! Asked some locals as well and the consensus was confirmed. We arrived early and spent an hour at the bar conversing with the staff. All friendly, all funny, all helpful. Popped over to the attached vintage antique/clothing store and found a cool shirt! The 6 of us sat down just after 6pm and started our culinary feast. Multiple appetizers, all fabulous including the Brussels, the Artichoke Hearts, the Pork Belly, the Focaccia Bread. I had the Wild Mushroom Ravioli with Chicken and quizzed my companions on their dishes to an enthusiastic thumbs up. There was the Gnocchi, the Carbonara, the Parmigiana.... All a solid YUMM! How was the service??? Top Notch? 5 Star?? Yes! Thank you Grace for honoring us with your fantastic service, attentiveness, humor, and smile! Cool place, but I have share my disappointment. First of all BEWARE of the automatic 18% Tip! The amount didn't bother me, in fact I always tip more than that! it's that no one told me it was there! I'm sure it's on the menu, but the writing is so small on their menus that I really couldn't read the meal description, much less the add tips message that might have been on there somewhere! But either way, I do think the staff should share this information when you get the bill. I've read other Yelpers that didn't see this and unknowingly added an extra 20%. Second, it's very loud in this restaurant, at least at the bar where I ate. A number of large tables are located in the bar area and with the wood floor and high ceilings it amplifying the normal discussions. it was really hard to hear or understand the bartender. (It might be better in the actual dining room). Didn't feel like drinking tonight, so I had an iced tea. Have to say this is one of the few places that I know of that charges for tea refills! (Once again not shared) Nobody (staff) that worked here had a smile in their face. Everybody seemed to be walking around with blank expressions. Sitting at the bar I got to see most everyone that worked there and no one looked like they wanted to be there. My bartender did check in with me to see if I enjoyed the first few bites of my app and then my meal and then again when she gave me the bill. Lastly, the food was not great. The Frites (fries) appetizer was way overdone. The fries were very crunchy and maybe would have been tasty if they were not so crispy. And at $13 they were way over priced. Definitely not worth it. My Merlot Beef was also sub par. The picture on the website shows a nicely presented pasta dish, (in fact I had it picked out before I came). but what I was served was more of a beef stroganoff swimming in a brown gravy-like sauce. . The meat was also overdone, lacking flavor and chewy. This meal should have been served with a spoon, not a fork! Please bring back the chef that made the meal in the picture on your website... that looked a lot better!! I came here on a recommendation from a local, but this was a major let down! Maybe a bad night? Maybe I made bad meal choices, because on the website menu everything looked very good. I did see a lot of people eating flatbread pizzas. That might be your best bet. read more

The Brussel sprouts were so salty we couldn't eat them. I had the vegetable gnocchi and it was smothered in oil. I asked the server for vinegar to pour over it to get some of the oil off. Out of the three of us no one had anything particularly good to say, the other two people said their meals were okay, but they wouldn't order them again. The greeting from the hostess was less than welcoming but the service after that was great. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was lively, just what I needed! We were unaware of the automatic service fee and accidentally tipped again. Next time, we'll bring our glasses and be ready to review the bill a little closer. read more

We were visiting Eau Claire for their marathon and elected to eat here for our pre-race dinner. Atmosphere is nice. Service was good. Our table had the Meatballs and Bread Basket as appetizers which were both good. I really enjoyed my Chicken Rockefeller dish. I definitely would return here if back in Eau Claire. read more

We came here several years ago when passing through and had fond memories. Needless to say, our current visit reinforced those memories! We began our meal with the burrata trio. It was a nice beginning for three people. Extensive wine list. We chose a west coast white blend which was perfect! Good draft beer choices, too. I was excited to find this restaurant on Yelp when I was staying in Eau Claire. Unfortunately I didn't get to experience the food as they were not open. Both Yelp and the Mona Lisa's website stated that they were open until 10pm but when I arrived at 9:15 I found the door locked. Someone working noticed me tugging at the door and looking in so they sent someone over to tell me that they close at 9pm now unless they have customers at the bar. read more

Mona Lisa's is a great place for a dinner, date night, celebration, visiting with friends/colleagues/family, etc. The menu has many options which feature very fresh ingredients. They can cater to a variety of diet restrictions. It is a finer dining experience in the area and the prices do reflect that. The service is pretty good, but some experiences stand out more than other visits (in a positive way, never bad). Due to varying experiences I removed a star for inconsistency. Please note that I've had many incredible and always positive experiences! I've enjoyed a lot of their food but I've ordered the Fusilli almost every time I've gone because it is incredibly delicious in my opinion. The Bread Basket, Caesar, Beet Salads, and Brussel sprouts have been some tasty options beyond the main dish. There's a large wine selection, great cocktails, and other beverages available too. I've also been there during a wine tasting event which was a great time where I had the opportunity to enjoy new things that I wouldn't typically order. I even purchased a bottle of something because I was intrigued by the new taste. If there's an event that is always a fun bonus! Eau Claire, Wi. We were looking for a different place to dine out instead of the usual (Informalist) A Yelp search revealed this gem within walking distance from downtown via the walking bridge. At first I was a little concerned because a waiter at the desk was intently working on his pad and ignoring us. (As it turns out he was new and was figuring things out. Probably not the place to do that as folks were expecting an acknowledgement of their presence). We were seated at the front window which to me was one of the best tables. I didn't get a real good look at the outside tables but my glimpse made me say no. Surprise! We got the new waiter who turned out to be surprisingly competent even if needing more practice at communicating. Then to the food. OMG. How is this place not have 5 stars? Oh I know, can't please everyone. Everything was a burst of new found flavor, I can gush on and on. My choice of a main dish was the gnocchi, with the salmon add on. This was so good I could not stop eating even after feeling satiated. I wanted to lick the plate! The salmon was delicious and paired well with the dish. The meatballs were also a highlight. They were equal to or perhaps better than what I remember as a child, those that Grandma Martino made. These are not your typical restaurant meatballs, several steps above the typical. Burrata dish was also excellent and stood out with the fresh greens. Desserts! Wow! The flourless chocolate cake with the espresso poured over the top was par excellence. The tiramisu was also outstanding and several cuts above the typical. Boozy and caffeinated, moist and with chocolate tones. Unfortunately I only had a few bites because I was stuffed. The tiramisu ended up in the hotel room refrigerator where was forgotten in the early morning rush to the Minneapolis airport. Was the experience totally perfect? No. I am unwilling to drink a whole bottle of wine solo so I like to order a glass or two. The selection of wines by the glass here are limited, and I was disappointed there were no Italian reds by the glass to pair with the Italian style cuisine. I ended up with an Argentine cab. It was an arrogant wine that brought back memories of my youth when I would siphon gas out of my car to fuel up the lawnmower. Undrinkable. read more

Hidden patio is awesome. A little bit stuffy since there isn't much airflow but I'm from a hot climate so it was fine for me. Staff is very friendly. I think my server was Isaiah. He ordered everything for me and his selections were top notch. Had the Rockefeller Scallops, 8 heat. Maybe a little too spicy as it encroached a bit on the flavorful sauce. The goat fondue. Was delicious and the suggested cocktail was the bees knees, which was literally the bees knees. Highly recommend. 10/10 read more

We wanted to try a good Italian place in downtown Eau Claire and I had my coworker pick the place. This is not typical Italian. This is Mediterranean Italian. We split a salad, pasta and a dessert. Everything was excellent except for the pasta. We ordered the closest thing to a marinara sauce pasta so we could try their base sauce and it had green and black olives in it and was okay. read more

Mona Lisa's has made me a very happy person, let me tell you. First off, it is hard to find a restaurant spot that can prepare a perfect gluten-free pasta, and they have it down to a science. Most places it kind of just breaks apart or turns to mush. Here it has a nice mouth feel and is cooked perfectly. Everything tasted fresh and was beautifully plated. The place was jam-packed. We had reservations at 8:45 with no wait and were seated promptly by a wonderful and friendly hostess. Our server was very courteous and on point. They knew what was available in the kitchen and what was unavailable. I was very impressed by this. As I stated earlier, there was not an empty seat in the house. At other places, I would have placed an order and then notified later that an item was out. Not here. Professional server all the way. Some might not be used to this, but another thing I enjoyed was the fact that there is no tipping. There is an automatic 18% upcharge for the server. If you would like, you can add an additional tip that is split between all the staff. Now, most may not agree with this, but I love it. It is hard to keep a restaurant going since the pandemic, and this ensures a living wage can be made. I wish all places did this. We are pretty much the only country that tips, and that leaves a lot of food service workers getting stiffed on their tips, so bravo for taking care of your workers. The lighting was not too bright and not too dark. I loved the wine bottle chandeliers(should have taken a picture.) All in all, it was a wonderful dining experience. Great job to all. read more
