Disclaimer: My knowledge of France is limited to oui oiu and hon hon hon and apparently that eating French food means using big/fancy words to describe it, so take my review for whatever you want. I do know delicious food and if you want to ask me if this place is good?...well...oui oui. I ordered the Quiche Lorraine and the French Onion soup, the food came rather fast even though a lot of reviewers seems to say its slow. The Chef/Owner was the one that brought out the food and like any good Frenchman he told me "Bon Appetit!" Well Hello to you too sir. The Quiche was excellent...wait...wait...I mean it was DI-VINE. The crust and texture of the dish was impeccable and the overall dish was simply sublime. The French Onion Soup came in a "petit" sized cauldron, the top layer had melted cheese that could stretch as far as a rubber band but probably more delicious. The onion soup was exquisite and had a pleasant aroma that was given off from the caramelized onions. A lot of depth to such a simple dish. In translation...i like this place. It's Cool. read more

There are two good restaurants in this town. This is the better of the two. You MUST have a reservation -- we've been turned away from an empty restaurant for not thinking ahead. I think they turn down those without reservations on the principle of the thing. Which I might resent anywhere else, but we have so few snooty and exclusive establishments in this town that I honestly kind of miss that attitude sometimes. The place is owned and operated by actual French people. Which adds to the charm and authenticity. The wine list is actually pretty good (though I'm still mystified about how they can possibly sell a Chateauneuf du Pape for less than $50/bottle... I didn't get to try it to see if it was good, I was outvoted and enjoyed a so-so Bordeaux instead. That being said, the fact that there is even a restaurant here where they offer a Bordeaux makes it WONDERFUL.) We always get the Escargot. They are amazing, especially with the bread dipped in the leftover sauce. I've also had the sole, the lamb chops and the beef bourgignon (sp?). I'm not a fan of beef stew in general, so that was the least impressive, but the lamb was incredible. Overall, considering the lack of options in this town, this place is the best. (Maddie's Cottage is the other good restaurant in town, but the service there is spotty and the wine list is awful.) read more

If you are in Ridgecrest you really should eat at Mon Rêve! The food is great, authentic (It tastes just like Food you would Have in France), the portions are generous. This restaurant is definitely a pleasant surprise during our stay at Ridgecrest. We were driving back home after a road trip to LV, Death Valley, and made a stop over at this small desert town. I just opened up Yelp as usual and searched for a restaurant for the dinner. I was expecting to see most of the fast food and chain restaurant, but found this lovely restaurant! When we arrived at the restaurant, and noticed that most of people inside were old retiree, and they were all looking at us seems wondering why we- two Asian strangers are here (by the way, i love this feeling when eating at a small town...people just seem to know everyone). The menu is limited but with some classic french dishes. The layered vegetable on the side dish (sorry French name too complicated for me to write here) is the most delicious one. The owner is also very friendly, and apparently he is a real French. I was keep thinking how he ended up in this small desert town. At the end, he wrote down the French name of the side dish, so we may be able to find the receipt on line. I also love the decoration of the restaurant, typical small town, yet bring you the feeling of the France country side. I especially like the decoration of the restroom! We will definitely go back there again next time if we pass by Ridgecrest another time! read more

We LOVE this restaurant. Great atmosphere, great service with quaint decor that transports you to a neighborhood bistro in France. The owner is wonderful and makes sure to communicate with every patron and is dedicated to providing top quality food. Speaking of the food...my mouth is watering just thinking about it! We are talking authentic French cuisine - creamy, rich, and divine! I've had several dishes in my visits and there is every dish was top notch. The Roulade De Veau is my absolute favorite, coupled with the garlic butter green beans - HEAVEN on a plate! The wait time can be a bit longer than most local restaurants, but oh is the wait worth it! Besides, everything is cooked absolutely fresh, including the freshly baked hot bread served before the meal. Finally, in regards to cost, it's on par with other 'fine dining' restaurants found locally, but in my opinion, the level of service, quality of food, and the divinity of taste makes Mon Reve leagues above the rest. Down and dirty; The Mon Reve is a great place to take a date, spouse, or significant other for a nice quiet intimate dinner ..... Strip mall type entrance with ample parking ..... smallish dining area that makes for a great dining experience ..... french atmosphere that doesn't look tacky or fake ..... a french waiter that is actually french ... Dimmed lighting ... clean tables ..... higher end, unique plates and silverware ..... no paper napkins here ..... The menu is limited to a handful of appetizers and entrees; as a quality, theme based eatery should be ....... very reasonable prices ...... Nothing but good things to say about this diamond in the rough ..... so few good things to say about Ridgecrest; yet this French restaurant next to a Jujitsu training center stands out ..... Would have been one of my very few 5 star reviews if we'd had gotten a personalized goodbye and thank you as we did when we first walked in the door ..... Mon Reve is what passes for haute cuisine in the southern Californian desert. While not exceptional, it is very likely the best meal you will find around for miles. The restaurant is small, with the main dining room offering about a dozen tables. The walls are adorned with small French paintings and nondescript accenting decorations. None of it really ties the room together, but it does have an appealing rustic charm I suppose. The star on the floor is a French waiter who addresses everyone with French banalities punctuated with a staccato of English summarizing the specials and verifying if everyone is doing well this evening. He plays the role quite well. The menu is limited, but contains classic French selections like coq au vin, soupe a l'oignon, and boeuf bourguignon. I opted for the last selection paired with the green beans and a glass of Angeline Cabernet Sauvignon. The green beans were delicious and proved to be a wonderful accompaniment. Fresh and tossed in garlic, these were especially flavorful. The bourguignon was passable, but in no way exceptional. It was served simply, without noodles, and only two mushrooms by my count. The morsels of beef were cut too small to really soak up the flavors of the wine from the braise. The sauce was not particularly rich or complex as a result. Don't mistake me, the dish is fine, just not great. At $16.95, it is reasonably priced. My wine selection was fine, but I would like to have seen more French wines than Californian wines on the wine list given the cuisine, but all of the selections were fairly priced. Tentatively recommend. 4 stars (perhaps a bit generous, but there is a paucity of acceptable dining options in the area) read more

My boyfriend and I absolutely love this place! The food is extraordinary, and the service is impeccable. During the holiday season last year, we did not have time to enjoy the delicious (and complimentary) treats they offered after our meal. The owner noticed this as we were leaving, and he actually flagged us down and handed us a little christmas box with the treats placed inside. It is those extra special efforts that place this restaurant in a class above the rest. One note: It does take a bit of time to prepare your meal, but that is just because everything is made to order and fresh as can be. I'd happily wait twice the amount of time for food this delicious. The last couple of times I have visited, my grandmother has mentioned that Mon Reve has some really good food - but unfortunately they were not open (or did lunch, I think) in the past. This time, though, they were open, and getting seated wasn't an issue during lunch hour. The gentleman who owns the shop, along with his son(?), are really nice folks who do a great job making sure the food is served quickly, and they converse a good amount with the patrons - always a good sign. As for the food itself, I didn't do anything too fancy - just went with the provencal sandwich with potato salad as a side. If anything, I was more impressed by the potato salad, which wasn't as creamy and bathed in mayonnaise as some versions can be. As such, you really got to taste the potatoes, as well as the garnish of fresh chives sprinkled on time that gave it a nice, herbal kick. The sandwich itself was also delicious; the goat cheese and the pesto work together to create a good base of flavor for the sandwich. If anything, my only comment is that the prosciutto is barely noticeable - granted, it's a thin, sliced meat, but adding a bit more would make its presence more pronounced in a sandwich where just a couple of thin cuts will get it lost within the rest of the flavors. I'd love to stop by for dinner sometime, as the lunch menu definitely feels smaller than what else I've seen discussed here. However, the lunch is well-executed at a good price, and it's got a nice, homey atmosphere with decorations on the walls that do remind you that you're in a French restaurant. read more

This is the spot for a special dinner out for two or a dinner with friends. The food is very good and the service is spot on. Mon Revenue is a small, family run restaurant with the French husband acting as host and head waiter and the wife as head chef. I would not call it fine dining because the place is small, warm, and casual. It feels like one of the neighborhood bistros we found in Southern France. One of my favorite things to do is to go for a late lunch on Friday (late in Ridgecrest is 12:30 ) and enjoy a salad and a bottle of sparkling wine. A quiet, relaxed meal to share chatting with a friend or spouse. I really enjoy the escargot and make sure you have bread to soak up the garlic butter. Traditional french dishes and some American fare. It is more French rustic or French country. The chef really knows how to cook lamb and the onion soup is wonderful. The wine list has some good choices but is not very extensive. They welcome diners to bring their own bottle or two and the corkage is reasonable. My only complaint is that they close the restaurant to go home to France for a month or so during the summer. My taste buds miss them. Reservations are suggested - because it is a small restaurant and you help them get an idea for the number of diners to expect. One warning - if you decide to try out your long forgotten high school or college French out on the owner, he will quickly leave you in the dust but it is fun to try to remember a few phrases. read more

Michael took me to Mon Reve last night for my birthday! He knows it is my very favorite in the area. It was superb as usually. The appetizer sounded delicious as a tart layered with pesto and topped with goat cheese, but we revisited the temptation. Maybe next time! I ordered the Beef Stroganoff and he ordered the filet mignon. We shared a nice bottle of California Pinot Noir with our dinner instead of going for a dessert. The service is impeccable and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. We wondered how the owners ended up in the Desert town? The stroganoff was perfection with a subtle hint of the mustard in the delicious gravy described on the menu. I tasted Michael's filet which was tender and full of flavor. Neither of us order beef often so this was a treat and well with it. The bread served with our meal was lightly crispy on the outside and soft tender inside. The 2nd roll we each requested was just as good. I can honestly say we lingered over the delicious scent of our dinner before we tasted it. You will not be disappointed with this jewel. read more

The best restaurant I've been to in Ridgecrest, hands down. It's at an odd location in a strip mall, but the inside is welcoming and cute. It's decently decorated with paintings and pictures of Paris along side a bit of kitsch. The waiter, who I assume is the owner, was very friendly and quite amusing. He was quite accommodating with our party of 8 since we didn't have reservations. Like any upscale restaurant, which Mon Reve aspires to be, the portion sizes are all modest, but very tasty. The entrees and appetizers consisted of typical French fare, but according to everyone in my party, everything was enjoyable. The waiter also recommended some wines based on group preferences which were also quite good. I'll definitely be back for my next business trip. read more

In the most stereotypical manner, he eschews the best French restaurants in London and New York. However, he was thoroughly impressed by this restaurant! We were driving back to Los Angeles from Mammoth on his second-ever visit to the United States, and we got super hungry in Ridgecrest. So we decided to to grab a bite at Mon Reve. We found the service to be top-notch, and he was extremely impressed by the freshness of the ingredients! The Coq Au Vin "reminded [him] of home." Wow. Just - wow. My friend and I went for dinner on a Wednesday to 'scope it out' for a group dinner that Saturday. We enjoyed the beef stroganoff and the beef bourguignon, the layered veggies and scalloped potatoes, and shared a salad and dessert, along with a glass of wine each. We did not have a reservation that night and had lovely attentive but not cloying service. The following Saturday (we did have res.) we dined as a group of 6. One had specific dietary limitations and her meal was lovely. The rest of us sampled many items on the menu and all felt it was exceptional. The french onion soup was especially popular.
