Patron/Chef and wife are vrai Francais serving a limited menu but totally classic dishes. No cutting corners in preparation or quality. Our first visit was 25 years ago, more or less, when they first opened. From then on Ridgecrest has been an extra stop traveling north from San Diego 2x a year. The ONLY problem is that there are not a lot of experienced and/or French speaking servers in Mojave Desert. It will be YOUR job to teach them about what they are serving. Called this place to see about making a reservation and was spoken to very dismissively by whoever answered the phone. I was told about a day where there was some availability and when I simply wanted to open my calendar to see what day of the week the date was, I was rudely told that the person I was speaking with was busy and was rushed off the phone and told to call back another time. Why even answer the phone if you're too busy to provide quality customer service? I'm not sure who exactly I spoke to on the phone but seeing how the owner is on here arguing with people leaving negative reviews, I wouldn't be surprised if it were him. At least I hope it was him, if the rude person on the phone was a different staff member than the arrogant owner then this place has even bigger problems than I initially thought. I'm sure the food is great, the pompous attitude of the staff has to come from somewhere, but unfortunately I will never get to experience it because I've been turned off this place by bad service. read more

It's decent for Ridgecrest, but it is overpriced and very slow. Some of the dishes are decent -- I had the steak au poivre last time and it was pretty good. But I can make a better version at home and honestly in less time than it takes them to do it. The staff is friendly and it is the fanciest place to eat in town that I know of. But I'd still take a pass and just have Mexican food. There are several hole in the wall joints that run circles for less money. If you have to have French food in R/C, though, you'll get a decent representation here. And if you are going for a romantic meal, probably tough to beat. read more

What a the VERY French restaurant. The owner greeted us with French bonsoir and beautiful accent. I had very tasty home made tomato soup and the side of tomatoes and zucchini dish. Very well served. Great atmosphere. My hubby was able to have a steak with side of pasta. We asked for very plain and very not French way of food for him and we got what we asked. Being in Ridgecrest for the first time, I depended on Yelp to guide me to a good place for dinner and once again, the Yelp crew came through. I called and left a message about a reservation. I received a call back in a day or two confirming my reservation. The table was waiting for me with a slip of paper with my name on it. Arriving at the restaurant, my GPS said I was there. Be alert that there's no name nor street number on the building. Seeing the Open sign was my clue to try there. The first you know you're at Mon Rêve is the doormat inside the first door. This is a small entrance room. The door is to your left and it opens to a long room with an area for seating if you have to wait for a table. I was greeted promptly and shown to my table as mentioned above. I was brought a menu, water, and shortly an iced tea that I ordered. After studying the menu for a bit, my server came and she explained three specials the restaurant had that night. I ordered the appetizer special--grilled shrimp on very thin slices of grilled squash. There was also a salad. The plating so so well done, it looked like I had a small salad bowl on the one side of my plate. For the main course, I went with the poulet au pesto "fait maison" which was chicken breast stuffed with homemade pesto with a cream sauce that had a touch of curry. For a side, I chose the haricots verts. Other choices were a baked potato or potatoes au gratin among others. When it came to dessert, I opted for the special. It was described as coconut gelatin topped with flambéed pineapple. At first I thought Jello but it turned out to be a panna cotta with the pineapple topping. The three courses very very good. The shrimp were grilled perfectly and the thin grilled squash made the dish different and tasty. The chicken was very good. I would have liked a bit more curry flavor but that's my personal taste. Others might be put off by more curry. The pesto was OK. The chicken was moist. The haricots verts were cooked just right and I was glad they didn't use the tired sliced almond touch. They were just plain and good. The dessert was a surprise as I mentioned above. The coconut flavor of the gelatin was just right and the pineapple made for a tropical end to a good dinner. Service was very good. Three people were taking orders, serving, and cleaning tables. The owner was one of them and he was a genial man. I was glad this was the choice I made and I recommend Mon Rêve to anyone looking for some good food. The restaurant is small and I'd recommend people make a reservation. read more

Worth the wait. The fresh baguette while you wait is outstanding. The meal takes its time coming out to you but 100% worth the wait... I had the French Onion soup, which could have been my full meal with the bread as it is a very rich soup, but had the chicken Coeur don blue. We were on our way to Lone Pine for a weekend getaway. I saw this restaurant is in Ridgecrest, so on the way through, we stopped. I think I just had the best French onion soup I've ever eaten. We shared a crepe dish with a side carrot salad. Definitely a 6 star meal. Service was on point-friendly, helpful. We came in toward the end of the time they were open for lunch, and the food took just the right amount of time-we knew it was made fresh, but didn't take too long. This place is adorable! Only been here twice but it's been great both times. Loved the food. The bread they make and bring out before the meal is amazing! As an appetizer, we got the salade de chevre chaud which they split for us. It was really good which surprised me because I'm not usually a fan of goat cheese. But the goat cheese, while still strong, didn't have that "smack you in the face" flavor. I got the tomato basil chicken pasta which I was very happy with. We also got the beef made in a wine sauce (forgot the name of it) along with a side of pasta. For dessert, lemon cheesecake and strawberry tiramisu. Customer service was exceptional. Will definitely go back. My only recommendation is it would be great to be able to make reservations online instead of calling and leaving messages, but I realize there's a lot of setup involved with that. read more

Literally Everything here is so delicious! Everything is just so perfectly flavorful and the perfect size to melt in your mouth...and the sides are all so good! If you go multiple times, definitely try a different side each time and you will fall in love with each one! The basquaise (pardon my terrible french) is my lunch favorite I highly recommend it! For dinner I recently had the pesto curry chicken and I was in heaven! I've sampled the beef bourguignon and it's so delicious....and I once had the special of the day which was a kind of baked fish casserole dish and I remember being a bit apprehensive abput getting it as an appetizer but when I tried it omg it just blew me away and whipped my skeptical mind into shape...now I know better! a fish casserole is so very appetizing to me now and so scrumptious. The salads are also so good! The french dressings are magical...even my husband who hates salad understand it's drenched in cheese and ranch loved sharing some of my salad. And desert....omg definitely get a desert even if you think you shouldn't...when you taste it you will understand...and be confused...I mean how can a desert be so delicious and wonderful yet feel so light and disappear so fast? Idk how to explaining it...Everything is perfectly decadent without going over board! They are geniuses!
