What a great find when we simply stopped for gas. Inside the gas station is a very simple, clean Indian food cafe. I am engaged to a Punjabi man who often complains that most Indian food restaurants have watered their food down for American taste buds. Not the case here! It's spicy and flavorful. I took a menu and a sample to my fiance and he agreed it tasted great, he was impressed they use a clay oven, and will be happy to wait the extra time for the tandoori chicken because he knew it will be fresh. I am not a big fan of biryani but I was told by one of my friend to try it.I ordered it for pickup without any big expectations bit after I opened up the togo tray I saw there wwas huge portion of biryani with ample size of meat pieces diving in aroma and spices in there. when I dug the spoon and raised it up to mouth the aroma and flavor went through my nostrils and signals reached my tummy saying I was going to have a badass biryani of my whole life. after the spoon landed my mouth and the pile of meat and rice fell off on my tongue I could feel the zitter on my tongue due to those authentic spices which included cardamon, cinnamon barks, fried onion and u name it. it was a awsomest biryaani. my friend I will tell u try once and u will see. it can be little spicy for normal american so ask for mild....I havenot tried any other items from menu but definitely gonna try kudos to owner of this small eatery read more

You're eating at a gas station, so lets get formal ambiance out of the way. The food was awesome, the chicken biriani was as poppin' as advertised. The spice was plentiful and the flavors came together very well. My son got a cheeseburger that was better than any other $2.99 cheeseburger is recent memory for what it's worth. The cook seems pretty proud of his food, he came out to see how we liked it, even offering yogurt to put on top if it was too hot. I thought that was cool. He did this for my other Caucasian brothas and sistas who were at the restaurant as well. They probably saw the same write up in the paper that I did. The food has good flavor, no doubt. However, if sanitary practices are important to you then stay away. It looks filthy back there!! Mucky floors, cook with dirty apron...the works. The owner has been upping the prices (notice the stickers he places over the menu board to change the first digit). Basically there is just one Mexican girl running the show here. Poor thing is discombobulated and overworked. If you don't speak up, she may very well forget your order altogether. Everyone is raving about the biryani which indeed is flavorful, but view it more like a pilaf since the chicken is scarce...stuffing your face with a box of rice is hardly a MEAL, or 2 meals as people say they get out of it. If you order curry, you must order rice or naan as these are not included. Goat curry is really spicy but good. Naan is 1 large piece that has a dry exterior, soft interior, bit of a cracker-like texture. Tandoori chicken is a measly sized leg quarter that's lacking in flavor and moisture. read more

I love this place. The food is spicy hot if you get the buffet. The setting is a gas station, so it's nothing fancy, but I love the food.

The hubby and I consider ourselves to be Indian food aficionados and Mom's Spice does not disappoint. I was slightly freaked out by the fact that it was in a gas station but my fears were quickly diminished by the delicious food. I got the chicken biryani and the hubby got the chicken curry with an order of naan. The spices were delicious and perfectly complemented the dishes. The food was hot and fresh. We paid around $13 for everything and we left with plenty of leftovers. My only gripe is that the chicken is bone in, however that is just a personal preference of mine. I know that this is the traditional way of making the dish. We both highly recommend Mom's Spice and will be back for more in the near future! Simply awesome Indian food! read more

Stuck in a Chevron gas station on Hwy 10 in Hurst. The lunch buffet is good, authentic and reasonably priced. I've been several times and I'm glad to see it seems to be thriving in the area...the other Indian places have all closed up (Bedford and Euless). As I tell my friends, this place is "next level" indian food. I've had buffets from Indian/Pakistani joints all over the West. This place has more spice than any other place I've tried. The buffet is cheap and the place is very casual for you to sorta do your thing, serve yourself and pay when you come up to the counter. However, this can be a bit daunting if you like order and structure but my experience is that this tends to be more authentic to this culture. The owner is the kindest and most hospitable man I've ever met, seriously. He he is so welcoming and humble. This place is my first choice for Indian. If you don't like intense spice and you don't like chunks of whole roasted spices or bones in your food (i.e. authentic) then this place is not for you. This joint is hardcore. read more

When they advise you to order mild, take them seriously. And order a Mango Lassi drink on the side to tame the dragon. Ordered Fish Biryani and Chicken Biryani. I think Biryani means Rice on Fire. This place really is a hidden gem! I've driven past it a lot but never had a chance to stop. I wasn't able to try the buffet but based on the reviews, I ordered the Chicken Biryani and naan. I was not disappointed! The chicken was tender with a great smoky flavor and the rice was well seasoned and paired perfectly. The naan was hot and fresh. This is one of those kinds of places that I really wanted to like better than I did. I'm not particularly well-versed on Indian food, but I've had quite a few dishes over the years (mostly from buffets so get a sampling of things) and I really like most of what I've had. So continuing in that same vein, I decided to do the buffet here. This restaurant is a gas station restaurant (you know, one side convenience store and one side restaurant). As such there's nothing going on in the way of ambiance, but that's not a problem. You pretty much expect that at these kinds of places. After reading the other reviews, I had high hopes for Mom's Spice being one of those DDD-types of places. It wasn't. The lunch buffet is advertised as being from 11-3. I got there a little before 1 and there were a few people eating (not the buffet) or waiting for takeout. The buffet needed to be refreshed as a few of the items were either empty or almost empty - like the rice and the dal. I managed to get some rice and sampled some of the other offerings. Since there was no dal, I had chickpeas (which, actually, were probably the highlight of the meal). I also had some chicken that maybe was Tandoori, but isn't Tandoori chicken usually on the bone? I'd never had boneless pieces of Tandoori chicken before and it wasn't in a sauce so I assumed it was Tandoori. Anyway, it probably would have been OK if it hadn't been so dry. I also had some kind of eggplant dish that I think also had celery in it. It struck me as a weird combo. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. I was asked if I wanted bread and was brought one of the biggest pieces of what I guess was naan that I've ever seen. Too bad it was pretty much flavorless and not crispy (maybe it wasn't naan?). Another person came in while I was waiting and was having the buffet, as well. In the meantime (after I'd been there about 10 or 15 minutes) they had brought out more rice. The other diner had asked about the dal. It came out about 10 minutes after the rice. Too long, in my opinion. What do you do with the naan if you don't have dal or something smooth to scoop up? And by that time, the bread was cold. Since I was still there (not sure why), I decided to try a little bit of the rice and dal. The rice was quite good, but the dal just didn't have much flavor. This is probably the kind of place that's best to hit up the buffet within the first hour, but it seems to me if, as a restaurant owner, you're going to do a buffet you need to keep it filled and fresh otherwise skip it. Actually, it's probably better to order one of the biryanis or something at the counter. I should have taken the tip from those who were there eating. read more

Having moved to the DFW area almost 4 years ago I have eaten in many Indian restaurants. Most have been decent but I never found the taste, flavor and texture of what I call a good English Curry. I was recommended this place by a friend of my daughter and it surprised me as it was attached to a gas station, lacked any Indian decor and frankly looked rundown and basic at best. However, the food was fantastic, I chose Chicken Biriyani, Chicken Curry, naam bread and fried rice, we had a mountain of food and it tasted great - we will be back. read more

I have been eating curry for 30 years both here and in England. I have never had a chicken tiki masala that is a grey brown color. The medium spice I usually get at other curry houses was unbearable. White rice usually come with the curry, I think basamati, the stuff I got was absolutely disgusting. The naan bread tasted and looked like it was purchased from aldi, not delicious soft warm bread that usually accompanies curry. We were very disappointed, I will not return. The ONLY reason I can't give Mom's Spice a perfect score is that I only got to go once before moving away (and I kick myself daily for not going sooner). This place serves delicious, fresh, high-quality food for a price that's low enough to make you suspicious. Yep, it's in a gas station.....I almost decided to go somewhere else and I am so glad I didn't. Mom's Spice has a lunch buffet and for the price it's pretty good. Obviously not the best Indian food out there but satisfying is a simple, quick lunch kind of way. They charge for individual sodas and water is kept in a pitcher by the buffet, which is something I wasn't to thrilled about. Been here a few times. I usually get the chicken curry which is good, very spicy and tastey, but a few days ago decided to go with the Tuesday special, chicken biryani and when I got it it was not hot it was lukewarm, but tasted very good and it did not reheat well the rice was crumbly after reheating. But I still loved the taste, just not the mild upset stomach problems. Will I go again, you betcha, because it's close, cheap, and tastey. It is probably the best Indian food locally. So give it a try if you like close to authentic Indian food, that is very spicy. read more
