Yelp has the wrong location. It is 623 N. Highway 95A Cantonment Simple soul food, home style fare. Simply delish! The setup is a trailer/food truck. There is seating on a covered porch. Though I think most customers do takeout, I did. Mom's Place cook from scratch so I recommend calling ahead. The cooking took about 15 minutes? This was my lunch break so I had time. I ordered Entree of The Fried Tilapia Fish and it came with two sides. I chose the fried pickles and coleslaw. All very fresh and cooked perfectly! The fish was my favorite! Light breading. I also ordered lemonade. Sweet and perfect on this really hot day. So much food I have leftovers. It was a win, win! This is a place that is known by locals and by word of mouth! Easy to miss from the road and the wrong address posted on YELP.

You'll see this next to Hwy 29. Stop and get food.

Your first impression of this place will likely be that nothing good can come out of a shed sized eatery. I, and you, would be wrong for thinking that. Mom's Place serves up wonderful, tasty home cooking, just like...your mom made for you. Unless your mother was a horrible cook. In the frontier universe of places to eat, what I refer to as "real food" is a woeful rarity in 2016. Mom's Place has bone-in fried pork chops (which I had yesterday) and other stuff that even sit-down restaurants don't offer these days. The chicken and dumplings ran out before I got there, but judging from the quality of what I left with, those would have been delicious. I had a double serving of mac-n-cheese to go with my two fried chops. Unlike a lot of places, this mac-n-cheese has real cheese in it and it is baked for a great texture and flavor. I can't stand lazy and cheap eateries that simply boil noodles and dump nacho cheese on top. My only suggestion would be more salt in the pasta water, but the final product was incredible as it was. The pork chops were thin, breaded with a tasty coating, and fried perfectly. You'd probably cook thicker chops at home, but these chops are cooked while you wait, so time is of the essence. The building (or "building") is smaller than my own shed and sits close to Hwy 29. You can't go inside, you walk up a few wooden stairs and place your order through a small sliding window. Parking is in front of the adjacent antique store. Departure is easier than I feared, because the traffic lights at Hwy 95A and Muskogee break up the steady stream of automobiles and logging trucks. I heartily recommend Mom's Place. I am thrilled that it is on my preferred route to work and that I can stop by frequently to try everything. Peruse the photos of the menu that I posted and call in your order so it will be ready to pick up when you arrive. This place is a hidden gem and deserves your patronage, so stop by, get some outstanding eats, and tell us about it.

If you are looking for a hidden gem serving some of the best fried seafood in the Pensacola area,…read morelook no further than Shannon's Seafood Kitchen. It is everything you want from a classic Florida seafood dive. The restaurant sits in a spot you could probably drive past a hundred times and never give a second thought. It is tucked away enough that if you did not know it was there you might miss it completely. But once you stop in, you will be glad you did. The atmosphere is modest, casual, and clean. It feels like one of those small family owned meat and three restaurants you find all over the South. The only difference is this one specializes in seafood. The service is as sweet as the iced tea and the conversations with the staff flow just as easily. Everyone was friendly and welcoming in that genuine small town way. The food was outstanding. Simple, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The seafood was fried perfectly and seasoned just right. The fish was flaky and hot straight out of the fryer, and the fried shrimp were crisp and flavorful. Even the sides were great and tasted homemade. You can tell right away that the owners and staff genuinely care about what they do. Their pride in the food and the restaurant really shows in the quality of everything they serve. If you ever find yourself craving a big piece of fried fish or a basket of shrimp, Shannon and her crew will absolutely deliver. Tip: Do not let the outside fool you. This is exactly the kind of local seafood spot that ends up becoming a regular stop once you discover it. Well done.

Came here for lunch the day after Christmas because there are only so many leftovers one can eat. T…read moreand I both had the shrimp platter that came with a generous number of shrimp. The menu literally says "8 or so jumbo shrimp," so hopefully you get the "or so" like I did. The shrimp were excellent; perfectly fried and the dredge they use is well seasoned. The fries were hot and seasoned, and the coleslaw was cold, creamy, and delicious. The homemade hush puppies were so good I ate my 2 and the 2 T didn't want. The ladies working were very friendly and attentive, bringing out cocktail sauce and some spicy mayo that was really good. If you're in the area looking for a good place to eat, stopping here is a solid play.
