Observed eight live roaches in the following locations: Two on floor under reach-in freezers by storage hallway, four on floor in employee restroom marked 'out of order' by reach-in cooler and freezers by storage hallway, one on wall behind three-compartment sink, and one under three-compartment sink on grease trap. read more

I went there for the first time in 20 years because I was told the Cole slaw was the best I ordered the chicken dinner which turned out to be 5 chicken fingers ( not crispy) and an extra slaw The chicken was forgettable and the slaw portion was about 2 bites.So with the extra order that made 4 bites. My mom bought this to go, the chicken stole the show for me, although not quite number one chicken place. It's still at least a top 3 contender for fried chicken in the city, hands-down. Worst service I ever had at a restaurant. I will never go back. First time at the place and Rude little lady came out to let me know that she can't watch the door and be in the back at the same time. Used to be my favorite chicken spot. I live 30 minutes+ away, but that never mattered. All it takes is one bad experience and that is what I got. Once I was finally able to bite into my chicken, I was in Bird Heaven. Their chicken is remarkable. For you newbies, which I was, two slices of white bread comes with your meal. Ordering "All The Way" means they add lettuce, tomato and mayo to the bread which will allow you to pull some of your chicken off the bone, or keep it on, and make a sandwich out of it. On sundays she makes a soul food plate, and serves until it's gone. Usually chicken or pork chops and sides (typically yams, potato salad, greens, and corn bread). When you order fried chicken or pork chops it typically comes on a piece of white bread and you can get it all the way (with lettuce, tomato, and mayo). The hot sauce on the chicken really sets it off. Reminds me of willie maes in New Orleans. This place stays open late on weekend nights (usually a spot people stop by late after the club closes). Her greens are some of the BESSSTT I've ever had. Also really love the potato salad and yams! There's cake, okra, and corn nuggets. The only thing I've had that I don't care for is the corn bread. But I'm telling you right now, this is worth your wait and to with stand the heat. Everything came out pipping steaming hot. These are fresh collard greens I have been looking, but be careful you may find some ham hock bones in them. This perfectly fried okra was the phenomenal. Now this fried chicken was by far, hands down, some of the most finger licking good chicken I have had in a while. I like it spicy so I got it with hot sauce on it. The way you are supposed to eat is to strip chicken and place it on the bread with mayo, tomato, and lettuce. Bread was super soft with super fresh tomato and lettuce, but sorry no mayo for me. Despite going to the Belmont Deviliers area for food since I was a kid, I only found out about The Dwarf a few years ago. Probably because despite its rich history, I think it moved to another part of town for a good while. All I can say is the chicken is super tender, and the people there are very terrific! It's not super crusty chain chicken, but the skin is crisp, flavorful and the meat is as juicy as anything. It's one of the greater downtown area's gems! read more

The dwarf is an unsuspecting jem for a non native Pensacolian, tucked away in a cool / fairly dead part of town (right near blue dot, another must go) minus the bustling store front of the Dwarf at 130 am. The ordering process is pretty direct, you say, you pay, she says alright and you sit with no idea of how long it's gonna take. There were probably 6-7 orders in front of us, and it took a good hour, I was warned ahead of time that's the norm (you can also call in ahead). I got the 2pc white chicken with hot sauce... hands down the best fried chicken of my life. 2 beautifully seasoned and browned pieces of fried chicken, juicy without being too much, splashed with some hot sauce siting above 2 pcs of white toast, lettuce, tomato and mayo all for around 5 dollars. The hour wait is part of the experience, come in with a buzz from the evenings activities and sit there and bump to some RnB soul while letting the aroma tantalize you until your time comes for the sweet satisfaction that only the Dwarf can provide.
