The waiter we had was very accommodating and made sure we didn't need anything. His name was Charles. (Looks like Ozzy Osbourne) While eating however I did find a hair in the cabbage which he took away fast and got me a new bowl. He had no problem also getting my mom a new piece of chicken, she said it was dry. The new piece was better. Mine was a little dry but I ate it. Real southern homecooking with legit fried chicken and sides beyond boring macncheese & collards. The fried chicken had proper tasty southern fried chicken flavor in th crispy skin and was moist on inside. I went overboard on sides and most were good: turnip greens, local style red beans & rice, cabbage, the black eyed peas were heavily stewed but were fresh. Our server was super friendly and efficient and helpful in recommendations and descriptions. The interiors were much nicer than the humble strip mall exterior suggests. The music soundtrack was excellent: Gladys, Jacksons, Lionel, etc. and the value excellent. 2 piece chicken mean for $12! I ordered fried catfish with turnips and cabbage. The catfish could have been cooked a little longer to have a crispy shell and the vegetables were somewhat dry as if they had been out to long. The turnips really had no taste at all. Worse is that this food bothered my stomach all night. Don't think I will be going there again. read more

Oh my gosh! What an experience.... The atmosphere here is jovial and friendly and you just feel good surrounded by friendly people (both staff and customers) and fun memorabilia. I can't wait to come back with my wife and kids! Tonight I ordered the Kuntry Fryed Stake. I chose mash taters wit' gravey and baked apples. It was all very good. The seasonings on the chicken fried steak were delicious! The service was outstanding! My sweet tea never ran dry, my server (Bridget) made sure I had everything I needed at all times, without being overly attentive (that's a real skill!). If you're in the area, you gotta try it! The check in receptionist was about the rudest person we have ever met! We walked in & the check in receptionist asked us "How many"? We said "Two"! Then we asked her if we could have a booth on the left side. She never said anything else to us! Went to Po Folks for my birthday and I had a wonderful experience. The service was very good and the people were very nice .

I left a 5 star but rather vulgar review earlier so I decided to redo mine. Fish was obviously the best part; it was flaky and crunchy but not too hard, just the right texture and was absolutely delicious. Chicken was great too, it wasn't too heavily breaded but just the right amount. Mac and cheese was a great choice for sides. It was hot and steamy and cheesy all around, although it looked a little soupy it kept its solidarity. Then the potato salad: You can never go wrong with potato salad. Corn bread was good, I've had better homemade but this is a good corn bread when you're eating out. Packaging is sometime hit or miss, last time we ordered they didn't pack the collard greens right and the juices spilled all in my sisters car and it stank. It does however all come in a foldable box that looks like a house so it feels a little more homebody. Even though I've had a bad experience once back in the day, they make up for it 10 fold in their food and atmosphere today. All and all, I'll definitely be returning. read more

We did not enjoy this place at all. The hillbilly schtick is so overdone it belongs in old town Branson, MO. The food is underseasoned cafeteria food, their signature fried chicken is so bland you're better off in a KFC drive-thru. There was no flavor in anything and the butter they offer for their potatoes is the kind in the bowl on the table that says 60% vegetable oil on it. The best part was the waitress, and I hate that I didn't get her name, but she was so sweet and kind, and kinda reminded us of Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island. We have been dining at PoFolks for over 20 years and tonight was our last night. We are literally throwing in the towel and refusing to eat there ever again. NO Seasoning on the Fried Chicken. Slightly over cooked but the meat was still good. ZERO Flavor. Nothing. Not even salt or pepper? Our Chicken Liver Appetizer was apparently cooked in very old oil so very dark and no flavor BUT good Chicken Livers. No butter for your corn on the cob. They use that trans fat oils margarine stuff ALL Health Experts warn us about. Seriously? Real Butter is actually healthy for you but that doesn't matter here. Check out was even worse because they had a 'problem in the back' that further delayed our departure. Visited on a weeknight. The restaurant was very clean and the servers were friendly and helpful. We ordered the fried chicken meal with green beans and mashed potatoes (definitely instant), chicken and dumplings with Mac and cheese and green beans, and a shrimp PoBoy for our family. The meals come with a different type of bread and the server recommended the breadsticks but they were really plain and I would not recommend. OF COURSE, y'all, those seeking fin(er) dining will find fault with every aspect of Po Folks - venue, service, food, presentation, napkins, decor, etc. But those who are interested in a down home, honest, delicious meal - with plentiful portions and great gravies will love it here. After you walk in, you must stand around until one of the servers notices you and takes you to a table. When you're finished, you must take your bill to the counter up front and wait for someone to take your money. Sorry, but this isn't a steak house - it's Po Folks. Get the chicken livers and the cobbler. In between, try the chicken fried steak - no chicken, and it's not a "steak", but it's more than a high school fullback can eat and I think it provides more calories per dollar than McDonald's fries. Or, fried chicken. It's hot, crispy, and better than the colonel's by far. To eat here we must drive across town - it's worth it. Was hopeful when i heard under new management. So much fir that thought. Waitress couldnt seem to get order straight .Ordered while shebang salad. She had never heard of it. Had to point it out on menu. Had to flag her down to get drink refills. Instead if sweet tea she brought unsweet. She stated they were brewing a new batch of sweet tea. Seems refill like you notice when running low and start a new batch before you run out. Wrote wrong table on appetizer order. Another waiter brought a po plate order with our order. Not ours. My order was missing a side. Had to wait i on side. Tea refill finally came. Unsweet again. Waiter acted like he wanted to argue the point. Told me it came out out of sweet tea container. Waitress later admitted she tasted it and it wasn't sweet. Bill came and we were charged for po plate that wasn't ours... more delay. Waitress said she was just out of training. We stopped here on our way back to Texas. My husband remembered the chain of restaurants from childhood visits with his family while vacationing in Florida. I couldn't say no to trying this place out. I felt like I was at one of those old fashioned diners they have up north. You know, the ones that our parents and grandparents frequent. We played it safe and order items that we were used to. Fried chicken, chicken strips, fried steak. There where no complaints about the chicken. However, I can't say the same for the fried steak. While the meat was very flavorful, the batter had a horrible after taste. Similar to when you use old flour. The same went for the corn bread. Both had a soapy taste to them. Between us, we ordered fries, coleslaw, potato salad and baked apples. My only complaint with the sides was the overwhelming amount of mustard in the potato salad. I'm not a big fan of mustard and that killed it for me. We didn't really enjoy our meal here, but it's all about the foods you are used to eating and prefer. Walk in on my lunch 3 people stood at the back and looked at me finally came to seat me. Ordered our drinks , waitress comes back and says I'll be back to take your order. Finally after about 5 minutes I tell her I need to order. She tells me she will be back again. Finally ordered.After waiting about 25 more minutes no food . I had enough time to make it back to work with no food . It wasn't that busy but come on, y'all were huddled around a table laughing and talking. We have a meeting there every month. Well, we used to. Our meeting was supposed to be tonight. We arrived (12 of us) to find out that the room we booked was no longer available. They pulled us tables together in the center of the dining room. Ok, no biggie right? Wrong!! We were then informed that Russ, the owner has made a new rule that all parties of 8 or more have to be on one check. Wait.. what?? We all have credit cards, not cash. Had we been told in advance of this new rule, maybe we could have prepared. Russ was not there and no manager would even bother coming out. So, now we are at Sonny's across the street waiting for our food. It's sad that the owner is basically driving his customers away. read more

Did a pickup today on a 12 piece chicken . Ordered via the website for pickup at 3:00pm. I called them at 2:00pm to make sure they had my online order. When I arrived at 3:08pm it took 48 minutes to get the order. I asked the cashier is it a waste of time to order from the web site, and she indicated yes. I asked why it is taking so long, The cashier said that my order got placed at the bottom, but she did not know why. Finally someone from the kitchen came out and provided the Chicken. The manager came out to ask the cashier if there were any issues or delays. The cashier said that I have been waiting for my chicken and i indicated that the pickup was scheduled at 3:00pm. The manager looks at me and did not acknowledge me and kept walking. Needless to say when I left I told the cashier that I will not be back. The cashier responded with a sarcastic tone, " to have a good day". She could not care less about the customer. No apologies from anyone. The cashier definitely needs customer service training. I do not want to sway anyone from eating at PoFolks, as others may have had a better experience. I just want to acknowledge that what I experienced and it in can happen again. read more

Servers and management are always so pleasant here. We almost always have the fried chicken and sometimes a fish platter and they are quite good. The fried green tomatoes are the best we have had anywhere. While the mashed potatoes and gravy and veggies are the kind you might get at a diner, it is decent, simple food, maybe canned or instant but we don't go there for the sides. Don't expect spa food and you'll be fine. The biscuits are outstanding, as are hush puppies (can't go wrong on those), corn bread, all quite good. Go hungry and enjoy the comfort food. read more

This is a chain restaurant that is listed as soul food but is really country cooking. We have eaten here before and usually enjoy it. I had the fried chicken. It was great. The breading was crispy and the meat juicy. The corn on the cob was hot and fresh and the mash potatoes good but a little heavily on the gravy. My husband ordered the shrimp and unfortunately his was dry as was his biscuit. So the food is only getting a half good review tonight. But what made this visit poor was the lack of recognition when we entered. It was a Saturday night and we expected them to be busy but we must have just missed the dinner rush. With that said the servers were cleaning up tables and checking on customers while 3 managers stood around the cash registers and never even looked at us. They were not taking cash, they were just talking to each other. 2 of the wait staff looked up and let us know they would be with us soon. There were at least a dozen empty tables and a party of 6 waiting ahead of us. A party of 3 came in behind us and after noticing the managers not engaging after a few minutes they left. Talk about a blast from the past. Okay, so I had a vague recollection of Po Folks Restaurant when we had one in the New Orleans area a long, long time ago. However, David remembered going to Po Folks all the time as a kid, so when he discovered there was one in Pensacola, we put it on our list of "must visit" places. We stopped in here for lunch on a Saturday and it wasn't packed at all and we were seated immediately. We decided to start with an order of fried pickles as we looked over the menu. I got the fried chicken lunch special which was two pieces of fried chicken and two sides for $7. The fried pickles were okay, but weren't my favorite, mainly because they were thick cut and I usually like mine a little thinner. The fried chicken was great! I got two pieces of white meat with green beans and mac and cheese and enjoyed all of it. It was plenty enough for lunch and well worth the price. David got two pieces of whole catfish and two sides, which he enjoyed. Po Folks might be one of the most perfect places for lunch, especially if you are looking for something "home cooked" and affordable. They have a little bit of everything on the menu, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is nice. read more

Something is different. It's been a couple of months since our last visit and this time something just wasn't right about the whole place. The dining room appeared unkempt. The wait staff and host/hostess all looked like they were there for community service. The service itself was sub par. Our server did not check on us during the meal or offer us a drink refill. (left the appropriate tip too) I tried the new menu "BEEF TIPS". It was pretty bad. It was very salty and not beef tips at all. I should have ordered the fried chicken. We were hungry after traveling to Florida from the west coast and wanted to stop somewhere for some local fare on our way from Fort Walton airport to Miramar Beach. It was Saturday afternoon and they had just gotten a rush but were able to seat us quickly. I appreciated how diverse the patrons were.
