Once we were seated, our server came and took our drink order. We ordered the fried pork chops, mac & cheese, yams and black eyed peas. The pork chops were seasoned pretty good. They were a little thin but still good. The mac & cheese were nice and creamy. The yams could have been a little sweeter but the nutmeg and cinnamon were on point. The peas were a little overcooked. They were more mushy than I'm used to. The corn bread was really good and hot. The biggest treat is the live band. They are amazing and set the tone for a great vibe. Overall, the food was pretty good and I will come back to try something new. A suggestion would be to offer some Lima, pinto or butter beans as an option. Those are true soul food side items.

As former certified Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) certified judges, my husband and I completed the training and paid the fees to be certified. The "KCBS way" is different from a lot of people's preferences in that, for example, a BBQ rib should actually have some "pull" to it, meaning, when you bite into it, your mouth should leave a mark in the rib. This means "fall off the bones" ribs are not KDBS quality, despite how many love that rib consistency. The KCBS judges slots fill up so quickly and required us to travel at our own cost and we did not judge any KCBS events. Back to Southern food. Deep fried double Oreos are one of the many fried foods here in Huntsville, and Melt restaurant features them on their menu. Meat-and-Three restaurants feature a meat (usually fried pork chop, meatloaf, BBQ, fried catfish, country fried steak/chicken) and three sides (fried okra, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, baked potato, potato salad, cole slaw, French fries) and bread options such as cornbread, rolls, hush puppies. While Southern Cooking is absolutely delicious, I have to limit it because lets face it, it is high in calories and cholesterol. When I do indulge, it's shrimp and grits, pimento cheese, fried green tomatoes, and fried whole okra.

The restaurant did not meet the requirements for a follow-up inspection on April 23 but met expectations during an additional follow-up visit on April 24. Dead roaches on premises. Observed four dead roaches in pooling oil under fryers. Water leaking from pipe and/or faucet/handle. Hand washing leaking from wall by back door. Worn, torn and/or soiled floors/carpeting. Floor worn out and peeling in front of reach-in coolers. Floor under fryers soiled with pooling oil. Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. Observed eight live roaches in the following locations: Two on floor under reach-in freezers by storage hallway, four on floor in employee restroom marked 'out of order' by reach-in cooler and freezers by storage hallway, one on wall behind three-compartment sink, and one under three-compartment sink on grease trap.
