With my disabled grandson's medical conditions and the numerous doctor/therapy appointments 3 - 4 days per week., I was forced to quit my full-time job for a minimum wage part-time night position. In January 2016 my grandson was approved to start attending a Special Needs Preschool during the hours of 01:30 - 4:00 PM.
Transportation would not pick my grandson up from his daycare center because it was out of their district, and vice versa, the daycare, even when offered additional funds, would not go outside of their district. I was in a catch 22!
This lead me to a search for transportation that would pick up my grandson 3 days a week (Monday, Tuesday & Thursday), round trip from the daycare to preschool & preschool back to daycare (7 miles each way). After weeks of searching I finally found a company that didn't want to charge me $200-500.00 per week.
On February 5th I met Serena (Mom's Care Car Pool LLC) at the Tempe Public Library. We met, she interacted with my grandson, he was accepting and things seemed to have gone great! We agreed on service at the rate of $60.00 plus a $1.66 processing fee per week. So I paid Serena $185.00 for February 8th - 25th, with the understand that his SSI Disability funds are direct deposited on the 1st of each month, and the following month's total for services would be paid then.
On February 6th Serena contacted me and informed me that "IF" I didn't make payment for an additional week of service the account would fall into arrears. So on February 6th I sent an additional $60.00 plus a $2.00 processing fee for February 29th - March 3rd.
Then the red flags started, I should have stopped this from the beginning; but I truly needed the service to benefit my grandson and his disabilities. This is where the inconsistencies started (processing fees increased & when asked there was no explanation).
February I started to notice an inconsistency in the times she was picking up & dropping off my child from/to the daycare center. Serena was supposed to pick up my child at 1:00 PM so he would arrive at the elementary school before 1:30 PM (school starts), 4 out of 9 times she picked him up late (1:10 or later) from the daycare and he arrived late at school. I also noticed that she was dropping him off at daycare some days after 4:45 PM (school released at 4:00 PM). I could understand traffic, but to drop him off after 5:00 PM or later was unacceptable.
March didn't get any better! I received a text reminder notice that payment was due March 1st for March 1st - April 7th in the amount of $419.00. I replied to the text message stating that my account was due on the 1st of March but for March 7th - April 7th (since I've already prepaid through the 1st week of the month) for the amount of $308.30 ($60.00 plus $1.66 per week x's 5 weeks).
Serena informed me that my billing was incorrect and that the $60 per week for one-way travel per day, not round trip; and that my new rate is $69.00 per week plus the processing fee. I was so frustrated at the inconsistencies and the fact that the funds to pay her came out of his SSI Disability payments; but he need this schooling desperately.
The elementary school notified me that the car pool service has been picking him up between 20 - 35 minutes late and if I would have a talk with MCCP. I proceeded to speak with Serena regarding the situation and inform her that I did NOT need CPS notified for abandonment. She assured me she would rectify the situation.
In March, she started to pick him up on time; but I noticed once again he was getting dropped off later and later. Some days he was dropped off 1.5 - 2 hours after school was released. Even with traffic, it does not take 1.5 - 2 hours to drive 7 miles.
We had a conversation again about tardiness, and I was informed that she wasn't sure how it was going to work due to more highway accidents & construction, but again would rectify the situation. I reminded her that I did NOT in any way need CPS getting involved, that she was being paid for a service and if she couldn't pick him up on time then maybe she should leave a bit sooner.
Just when I thought the billing & transportation issues has been resolved, it started again!! On March 21st I received my friendly text message reminder that his account was due on April 1st for 5 weeks of service in the amount of $355.00. ($69. read more
