The food types are similar but offer different spice/flavor profiles. They have a large section of noodles, soup, and rice. A veggie section with various combos of cauliflower, potatoes, onion, bamboo, blackened peas, mustard greens, and spices. Some of the Indian dishes: paneer butter masala, palak paneer, chicken tikka masala. Some of the appetizers include crispy tofu, fried soybeans, a Nepali snack platter with marinated meat, goat, beef tripe, sliced beef tongue, fried jerky, duck. They also have a momo section. We had their famous chicken lollipops (essentially fried chicken) and it was crispy and spicy (in a good way). We also had sadeko (marinated or tossed) bacon, which was rich and tender. I had one of their Nepali cocktails, which was pleasantly spicy (the chatpata aam, made with tequila, spicy chatpatey syrup, and mango puree). Service was attentive. Inside is cozy, lots of dark wood and colorful flags. They also often have entertainment in the evening, so I would love to return to hear some live music while trying more Nepali cuisine.

The first time that I came here was about 3 years ago with a few friends and we liked the food - the beef tongue was different and super memorable and the jhol momos were just swimming in flavorful curry. Made me want to come back again. Fast-forward three years later, I feel like things have changed significantly. Or maybe I didn't catch them at their best, but I came with another group of friends and I just felt overall disappointed with the food, as did my friends who were excited to try Himalayan food for the first time. I had the goat dhat bhat and the small amount of meat served in aesthetically pleasing bowls to mask the portion was disappointing--and this was not a lunch special or anything. I mainly got a big bone and realistically got about 2-3 small bites of actual meat, while there was an overwhelming amount of rice and veggies. The momos also tasted like they were pre-made and heated or steamed up again because the dough was definitely a little rough. Overall, this experience was a meh for me. I think it is a social staple for many Nepalese and Tibetans in the area, and just for that.

But I was excited to discover that Himalaya offers authentic Nepalese, Tibetan and Northern Indian cuisine, so I decided to step outside my comfort zone and explore the Himalayan side of the menu. We started with momos, Tibetan-style dumplings, which I was especially excited to try. They can be ordered steamed or fried, and we went with the mixed fried set, which included 2 veggies, 2 chicken and 2 beef momos. I tried the chicken and beef, while my daughter took the veggie ones home. We also wanted to try something specifically Tibetan, so we went with Sha Phaley, a traditional Tibetan meat-filled bread/pastry. Ours was filled with seasoned beef, fried and served with a chili and tomato chutney on the side. The chutney had a nice balance of tomato and spice and was a great complement to both the momos and the Sha Phaley. For our entrées, my daughter ordered Jalfrezi curry with onions and Himalayan sauce. The sauce had a bit of a kick, so I'll have to take her word for how good it was! Of course, I had to grab a piece of the beef with some garlic naan to try it for myself -- and I really enjoyed the curry. For myself, I chose the fried noodle mix with several proteins. The noodles were flavorful and the portion was generous -- enough to take some home for another meal! There are lots of pluses here: welcoming staff, a warm and inviting ambience, a full bar and plenty of free parking in the lot behind the restaurant. They also offer many vegetarian and gluten-free options, plus lunch specials Tuesday through Friday. And if you're looking for some weekend entertainment, they have live music Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

I always get the thali (I change up the protein) and my friends always seem to get the jhol momos. Both are absolutely lovely and keep me coming back. The thali's protein portion is small, I'll say - last time I got the veg (tofu) and it was positively tiny, maybe about 3 oz of diced tofu. But I still love supporting this place because they're genuine, nice, and it's just a great vibe in our neighborhood. If you don't know Nepali food, I wouldn't let that intimidate you - it's very mild compared to Indian food and the servers will help you. The momos are very much siblings of chinese dumplings, so that's an easy order if you're not sure which way to go. I also appreciate that the mocktails are around $8, not like $16 like so many hipster places these days!

The sauce over the momos was so flavorful and colorful, and the jerk chicken in the roti was perfectly seasoned.
