Is it that time of year for another 1618 update? Absolutely…read more After my umpteenth visit, I think it's safe to say I've worked my way through almost the entire menu (minus a few noodle, chicken & vegetarian dishes). My 2025 review still stands, but after so many visits, I've noticed a few items haven't been good as they used to, particularly the chicken wings (and yes, all three of them). The Garlic Wings haven't been hitting quite the same lately. They've started to taste a little dry, and the saucier wings taste better the next day since they don't have time to steep through once served. The Filet Mignon Pepper Steak is still my favorite dish on the menu, but I still can't justify ordering it family-style anymore. It's delicious, but the portion just doesn't match the price. One of the newest additions--the Truffle Fried Rice is spectacular. It's light, not overpowering with truffle, and the fish eggs really adds the perfect little pop of texture/flavor. I don't think I breathed the entire I scarfed it down!! 1618 is still one of my favorite restaurants in Austin of all time, but I think it's time for the menu to elevate a bit and dive deeper into less mainstream Asian cuisine. If anyone can do it, 1618 can.

I came here on a word-of-mouth recommendation, and I was intrigued before I even sat down. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by a beautifully designed waiting area showcasing the restaurant's many awards and accolades. It immediately sets the tone that you're in for something special. We came with one goal: try as many things as possible. Saturdays are perfect for that because they offer dim sum. We started with the Pho Xiao Long Bao (Wagyu beef soup dumplings) and the Korean pancakes. The soup dumplings completely stole the show. Perfectly cooked, delicate wrappers, rich and flavorful broth, and with just a touch of chili oil...absolute perfection. I've had soup dumplings in many places, and these are hands down the best I've ever had. I say that with my whole chest. The Korean pancakes were also outstanding. Crispy on the outside, tender inside, with that perfect balance of savory and just a hint of sweetness. Every bite had great texture and flavor. For our entrées, my husband ordered the Banana Salmon. It was spectacular. It's one of those dishes that makes you question whether you've ever really had good curry before. The spice wasn't about heat, it was about depth, warmth, and layers of beautifully balanced flavor. I ordered the Crab&Shrimp Tom Yum Coconut Fried Rice, and this dish deserves its own paragraph. The presentation alone is stunning. The fried rice is served inside a fresh coconut, surrounded by banana leaves and topped with a beautiful orchid. But thankfully, it tastes every bit as incredible as it looks. The coconut adds a delicate sweetness without overpowering the dish. The crab was plentiful, sweet, and incredibly fresh, while the shrimp were perfectly cooked, not a second overdone. Dishes like this require impeccable timing because every ingredient cooks differently, and somehow every single component was flawless. It was one of the best fried rice dishes I've ever eaten. The service was equally impressive. Everyone was warm, attentive, and happy to offer recommendations based on their most popular dishes. They even told us about their live music nights, which immediately gave us another reason to come back. The table next to us was having Pho and needed with the mango sticky rice and I am coming back for that. Overall, 1618 Asian Fusion delivered on every level, beautiful atmosphere, exceptional food, and genuinely welcoming service. It's one of those restaurants that leaves you planning your next visit before you've even paid the bill. Highly recommend!

We also had the BBQ eel which was delicious (a bit pricey for 3-4 small pieces for $18, but it is cooked SO well). We had the charred edamame which does have beef in it (take note vegetarians -- there aren't a lot of veggie only dishes on the menu), and the taiyaki cornbread (excellent flavor and texture). We did get the hippie bone marrow (it's eggplant!) and the Kinoko mushroom for our vegetarian friend and she really liked both it even though she's not big into mushrooms (the kinoko has a strong umami flavor, it's quite meat-like actually). We got the hot pocketz too which are brisket based; they were very cheesy (smoked gouda) -- good flavor but the brisket isn't strong. My coworkers also tried one of their specials which is essentially a Japanese "famed dish" -- it's squid marinated in it's own guts. I tried the tiniest piece and it was one of the most abhorrent things I've had -- it was SO salty and kind of sour. I like fried squid but this was nothing like that; def would not recommend but if you like to try weird things, go for it. We also got several drinks -- the Match painkiller and Puff puff pass (serves 2 people) are both absolutely delightful! Very fruity/tiki-like. Someone else got the grapefruit sour which is basically Shochu in a glass that comes with a fresh half of grapefruit and a juicer you can prep yourself! Overall -- I like Kemuri a lot. The food is a little high for the portion sizes, but it's a solid place to go with friends/coworkers and share things so you can try a lot. Because things come out like it courses, you can easily get full without overeating. And the drinks are great! It's a more casual place inside, but you could still have a nice/fun date night here.

I expect heat in summer in a covered patio, but we didn't have a fan or AC blower, unlike the other half of the patio. Halfway through our evening meal I couldn't wait to get out of there. Service was mixed. Friendly staff, but only once did someone clear a plate, so the table remained a cluttered mess of dishes. I'm not inspired to go back.

The menu has a great variety of Asian-inspired barbecue, smoked meats, shareable plates, and sides, so everyone in our group found multiple dishes they loved. Everything we ordered tasted incredibly fresh, and the quality really stood out. The combination of barbecue and Asian flavors was unique without feeling overdone. Although I would reorder everything again, these are the following things that I still dream about: crunchy sweet corn fritters, char siew pork belly, smoked shishito queso, and smoked butcher's cut. The laid-back atmosphere made it easy to relax, share food, and enjoy good conversation. If you're visiting Austin with friends or family and want a place that offers delicious food, plenty of variety, and a fun, casual vibe, Loro is an easy recommendation. We'll definitely be back.

After receiving the notification that our order was ready, I waited in the designated curbside spot for about 10 minutes. Eventually I had to painfully get out of the car, only to find our food sitting on the pickup shelf while employees were standing around talking. The much bigger issue came when we got home. We were eating dinner while watching a movie in dim lighting when I happened to notice my boyfriend's chicken was completely undercooked. It was still pink throughout, with some areas even appearing bloody. By the time we realized it, he had already eaten quite a bit of it. He ended up spending the night very sick. Undercooked chicken is a serious food safety issue, not just a quality issue. Mistakes happen, but serving raw chicken can make people extremely ill, and that's exactly what happened here. I'm posting this because I hope management takes it seriously. We have always enjoyed Loro, which is why this experience was so shocking. I hope they improve both their food safety practices and their curbside service so this doesn't happen to someone else.

Also had a Fresa Paloma with Socorro Reposado Tequila, Contratto, strawberry, lime, grapefruit, five-spice that was very sweet and garnished with a flower. You are given a card where you can mark your dim sum selections. I ordered the Shrimp Pancake, Snow Crab Ball and Chinese Sausage Sticky Rice. The standout was the shrimp pancake that had a really great texture and flavor. The snow crab ball had a strange texture with shrimp surrounding the snow crab claw. The Chinese Sticky Rice is always a favorite. Also ordered the Truffle Egg Fried rice and Birds Nest with Seasonal Vegetable. The Truffle rice is so flavorful like a flavor explosion in your mouth. The Birds Nest is made with fried potato shreds which contain the a variety of vegetables including cauliflower, peppers, mushrooms and asparagus. The nest is also edible and has a crunchy texture. The brisket fried rice was phenomenal and should not be missed. Kung pao chicken was okay (I didn't like that they deep fried the chicken). Green beans were flavorful. When a server finally came over, she walked us to a table, slammed the menus down, and walked off. Rude for no reason. Food was just as disappointing. The rangoons were good. My husband wanted orange chicken but it wasn't on their brunch menu, they were kind enough to still make it, which we appreciated. It was good, but everything else? No. The "mala fried chicken" was basically chicken nuggets with steamed rice, the menu said it had chili oil, I expected it to be drizzled over the chicken but instead was sitting at the bottom of the bowl. I didn't notice it till the end and since I thought they had forgotten it, I asked for some and got just the oil. Idk if that's the way they do it, but usually when I ask for chili oil I receive the chili flakes with the oil. Anyways, it was mid. But the brisket fried rice..... now, that had zero flavor. We barely touched it, left the whole thing behind. Between the attitude and the food, it's a no for us. Wouldn't come back.

The Chicken Kara-age was not as crispy as I would like it. Also got royal milk tea, which was lightly sweetened. This place does get packed, so if you like to try this place, avoid the right before noon crowd or go early morning or later in the afternoon. The restaurant itself is small, but they do have some outdoor tables as well. The hard part about sitting outside is if you order drinks, I don't know if you can hear your name being yelled out while you are outside, so I would suggest having someone inside to grab your drink if you order any or check inside after a while to see if your drinks are ready.
