I am a military veteran & antique watch collector. Molina was gracious in inviting me to change out my metal band for the rubberized version. The watch is an Omega Dynamic Geneve automatic. Claire assisted me as the go between relative to their on site horology watch service person. They not only switched the band but DID NOT charge me any monetary compensation for the work rendered. I first came across Molina Jewelers in early 2023, when I was shopping for an engagement ring. To be honest, I felt really out of place when I first walked into Molina - it has an old world air of exclusivity that can be intimidating. Their pieces are limited in number and displayed in that sparse way where you know they are going to be expensive. I was immediately sure I wouldn't be able to afford anything and was wasting everyones time, including my own. I was greeted by a receptionist that thankfully introduced me to Janet, who changed my whole experience. Jan spent the next several hours going over everything I wanted in an engagement ring. I had something very specific in mind. But I was also sweating from the "stuffiness" of the place that might hit some people right away when they first come in. Jan took the time to speak to me about my fiancé, understand my cultural background and - most of all - respect and work within my budget. She took away all the pressure of buying an engagement ring as well as the store itself and made that personally important day fun and exciting instead. She was able to source the type of stones I wanted, had the jeweler design and sketch our engagement ring exactly as I'd envisioned so I could see it on paper that same day, and worked with me over the next several weeks to complete the order and deliver it on time for my planned proposal on an honestly tight deadline. I've since purchased more jewelry from Molina through Jan, all of them gifts for my wife and child at prices you would not think a place like this would entertain if you judged it on first impression (under $1K in one example). These people also maintain relationships with you outside of just business. They reach out to you regularly to invite you to local events, everything from annual galas to children's weekend getaways. They gift hard to get tickets and seats to you. They remember all your important dates, from birthdays to anniversaries and, sure, its to generate sales, but it's never pushy or tacky. Jan is basically like a distant aunt who always takes care of you when you reach out to her, and always reaches out to you when you need her. Yes, there is a premium for the Black Starr & Frost name and heritage Alfred Molina took over. Is it worth the pretty packaging? Or the whole *feel* of the experience? I think it can be. Even when you have no experience buying jewelry like me and can't afford anything in the glass cases at their store. If you want to build a relationship with a jeweler and be treated with respect and understanding regardless of your budget, these are good people. Would recommend really to anyone, especially those that feel out of place when they first walk in. read more

Molina Jewelers (Black, Starr & Frost) clearly has a stellar reputation for business acumen and quality jewelry. The recent exception I would say is their choice of people used to represent them initially upon arrival. I think they could do better than having an out of state/transplant trying to shame sales for commissions. We've all seen the offensive air of snobbery displayed in similar settings to convey a sense of superiority which unfortunately tends to regard others as inferior due to the level of arrogance communicated to a potential customer. Not once, not twice but three times in one visit. Having 'Googled' the individual, I find it extremely ironic this is the face representing Molina Jewelers. read more

I recently inherited 7 pair of chunky gold earrings. Ranging from expensive Tiffany pieces to $5-600 hollow gold earrings. All appraised through the estate process and worth keeping and wearing. They were all large "clip on" with high quality clasps. However, we needed them all converted to pierced ears. We wanted comfortable and secure conversions. We are from the Midwest and had the appraisals done before we left for the winter. Our relationships were 2,000 miles away. Where to go? Who to trust? Molina was a shot in the dark. Their prominent location on Camelback meant that I knew where they were when they popped up on Google. So I called. They were welcoming and asked me to pop over with the earrings at my convenience. I was met by Barb and she made me feel comfortable immediately. I don't know much about jewelry but I had received an estimate before I left so I had a ballpark price in mind. They kept the earrings for a few days and called with with a quote for conversion. The price was actually a little less than I expected so I said, "go forth and convert." A week later I picked them up and am happy to report that they look like a million dollars, they are extremely comfortable (so I am told), and they are extremely secure. Barb had assured me when I picked them up that if there were any issues they would stand behind their work and make adjustments as necessary. I left feeling confused and disappointed after my visit to Molina's. My husband called them over the phone to see if they could help because I over cleaned my rose gold wedding rings in silver cleaner. They were nice and suggested we visit their store, which is what we did. When we got there, we were helped by Claire. At first look, she told us that my rings would need to be plated. Which left my husband and I confused because my rings are not plated, but rather are solid gold, and we thought that they just needed to be polished. Then, after examining my rings for a few minutes, Claire told us that they would not be able to help us because my rings were plated and "reading" for moissanite. She also stated that the reason she thought my rings were plated was because my ring had the marking of k18 rather than 18k. This left my husband and I confused because my rings have GIA certificates and were bought from reputable jewelers. Of course, I left feeling upset because these are my wedding rings. We later learned that a k18 marking is consistent with rings from Japan - which is what my Japanese Kataoka ring is. I am somewhat confused how experts in fine jewelry would not know the distinction between k18 and 18k. Luckily, I was able to take my rings to London Gold and not only did they polish them in less than 30 minutes to look brand new but sent us with an appropriate cleaner. I am actually thankful that my rings were not done at Molina's because plating them would have altered their integrity. read more

Few Valley jewelers work on this type, but the VP was nice enough to to let me in even though I was inappropriately dressed for their establishment. beauty,refinement,grace, luxury and hospitality are what i experienced at molina jewelers in arizona. i was offered a tour of the facility and was welcomed as a guest. i admire plique a jour pieces, especially dragonflies. i saw none in the beautifully displayed showcases. then my lovely hostess said she knew of one. a few momens later she presented a beautiful plique a jour dragonfly brooch. it needed a small repair to straighten one wing. it was an estate piece. she said it would be repaired and sent to me. i declined and purchased it as it was. i was leaving the state the next day. she said any time i wanted it repaired,they would do it free of charge. the entire experience was memorable. 20 years later, i still have the brooch. it is still beautiful. be careful when you type your review. you cannot go back to correct errors. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! Don't be fooled by the razzle dazzle of Mr. Molina and his cheesy pin-stripped suits or the gaudy building that creates the illusion of a "fine jeweler." Molina Fine Jewelers/Black Starr & Frost is run by a den of thieves. My fiancé recently proposed to me what appeared to be a beautiful and expensive diamond ring. He was so excited to find me the perfect ring. I have been wearing this ring since the 4th of July 2021. It is obviously my most prized possession and has great sentimental value to both of us. Naturally, I was extremely careful about the ring and have been taking great care of it. I remove it when I'm showering, cooking, and working out. I work 8-5 at a desk job so no heavy machinery used. When my fiancé and I took in the ring back to Molina's to get it re-sized he was taken aside and told the diamond was chipped along one of the edges. This happened after the ring was out of our sight and in their possession for over ten minutes. He was also asked to lie to me about the condition of the diamond and encouraged to call for an insurance claim. I was completely devasted with the news. When we had the chance to speak with Mr. Molina himself on one hand he kept explaining to me that diamonds can be chipped when the right force is applied to them and then contradicted that by saying he has never seen this happen to a diamond. I am certain that I don't possess the ability to break diamonds or that I hit it against any surface. This just comes down to the quality of the diamond. If this can happen to such an expensive diamond after only wearing it for two weeks, we as users should have been warned about the "wear and tear" of such expensive diamonds before purchasing them. Molina's refuses to take any ownership of the flawed diamond and continues to blame us for damaging it. We were told that our only options would be to reduce the size of diamond by cutting it further down in size. For a business who prides themselves for their exceptional quality I would expect them to take accountability of such a situation. The only thing Molina's has lived up to is making this experience horrific and "Unforgettable" for my fiancé and me. read more

I've come to Molina Jewelers for 20 years for everything from watches to women's jewelry. One of my friends was the Goldsmith here for over 10 years and always did a fantastic job on all of my custom jewelry. Very nice showroom with an attentive friendly staff that is there to serve you and sell you. Not a high-pressure store at all but you can definitely tell they want the sale. They do great custom work as well as repairs on specialty items that you might have reservations on letting someone try to fix. All in all a great jewelry store in the valley. read more

The selection is intricate, unique, and WAY out of my budget -- we're talking multi-MILLION dollar jewelry, such as the 76-carat diamond, The Archduke Joseph. The front wing of the building, labeled "Boutique", is a wedding boutique which has more accessibly priced inventory and, unlike the rest of the store, does not require an appointment to visit. They designed a Mother's Ring for us with my Dad and siblings back around 1995 and my Mom still wears it with wonderful Mother's pride. Even from the very beginning, when I went in with my vintage 1920's ring, they have shown amazing quality and care with repairing it. The reason we didn't get our bands from here was because we were in a money pinch from paying for our wedding which is why we decided to go with another jeweler (BIG MISTAKE) After the horrible situation we had with the jeweler down the road (look at my other reviews and you'll understand), we became so upset and stressed. Wow... That sums up my experience at Molina. Usually I only rate restaurants but I got out of my comfort zone to do this review. Molina is topnotch. I have a very expensive piece of jewelry which I've had for over 15 years, and I needed a reappraisal for insurance. When I got to Molina, I was extremely impressed by the facility. It's beautiful inside, sort of like an exclusive country club yet without pretense. The person who greeted me was courteous and professional, and when I told her what I came for, she immediately introduced me to Mark Skarupa. He made me feel at ease immediately, and took me into an office to examine the jewelry, then told me, "We'll take care of you". That's exactly what they did... Mark produced an appraisal document within 3 days, very elegant I might add, and thoroughly suitable for my homeowners insurance. He also provided a .pdf to submit. I went there fully expecting to be out of my element, but I left feeling like their most valued customer. Going into this store is a joke. You are overcome by a salespeople, You can't even look without one of them trying to pull out some outdated item for you to try on. You say no thanks and they just keep on pushing you. It was a very uncomfortable experience. The jewelry they have is somewhat outdated. Some items are quite nice but I think this store is very overrated. They also say it's Molina quality, most of these pieces were not made by their jeweler. This store is not what I was expecting They show you the whole store whether you want to see it or not. I ended up buying a gorgeous piece at Hyde Park. Came into Molina to get my watch appraised that has been in our family for 35+ years and Oscar after being told the story(of why a 40 year old box is so tattered) had the audacity to tell me it was fake. I get it, however this was my first time in your establishment and will be my last. Do I look like your typical customer, no but you should never judge a book by its cover, as I could afford A LOT in your store. I really think you should look elsewhere when looking for fine jewelry unless you pull up in a Bentley and have an Amex Black card. The watch was purchased at the same time as my parents both bought matching watches in 1980. Shame that Oscar who's not an appraiser wanted to go there. You will see the power of social media and hopefully can teach your employees to be a lil more savvy with their words. SHAME ON MOLINA, SHAME ON OSCAR.
