Holy cow! These folks are amazing. Call them. My wife's intuition told her that we had a real problem in an unused bathroom in our basement. READ THIS REVIEW, THEN HIRE MOLD SOLUTIONS TO FIX YOUR PROBLEM! In early March 2021 we arranged for a complete replacement of our home's 46-year-old attic insulation. After the tear-out was complete the crew leader indicated we had extensive mold issues, showed us pictures and discussed locations. He indicated that they couldn't proceed with the rest of the job (scheduled for the following 2 days) until the mold was dealt. Naturally a bit panicked, I asked if he had any recommendations and he gave me three company names. (Note that none of the three was Mold Solutions). Thus began my mold remediation journey... First I did a lot of reading, about how mold occurs, what types are particularly bad (or not), and how removal can be accomplished. I did a LOT of reading. Then over the course of the next three weeks I spoke with 7 companies, had onsite assessments from 6 of them, and got quotes from 5 of them. Quotes ranged from just under $3,000 to over $13,000. The old, crappy insulation was already gone, everything was in full view, and no material removal was required. Scope assessments ranged from a "seal openings and spray" to that plus "scrape, bag, spray again and leave blowers in place for 48 hours", with most effort assessments being a day in duration and the average cost about $6,500. It seems to me that that most mold remediation businesses rely on customer fear and ignorance. While most of the on-site assessment folks were informative they tended to shade the conversation towards the DANGERS OF MOLD!, but not sharing information about the different kinds of mold, and the wide range of associated risk. I get it, it is a sales process, and they want you to sign the deal. But several of the assessors just weren't truthful about the risks. Worse yet, two of the companies would not provide a quote without being paid an assessment fee. They had said nothing about such a fee up front, but rather waited to tell me about it until I called them to ask where the quote was (this being 2-3 days after the promised quote-receipt date). When I expressed surprise and dismay, they both said their staff had "made a mistake", but that they would "make it right" and give me the quote without paying the fee. I call BS. In summary... * 5 of 7 companies took more than 5 days to come out for the assessment * 3 of 7 companies provided more information than the others about the assessed situation and associated risks * 1 company delivered the quote when they said it would, 4 companies were 2-5 days late with the quote, and 1 company never delivered the quote (because I wouldn't pay a fee first) * 4 of 7 companies could not schedule the work start date for at least 9 days It is worth noting that many of these businesses are franchises, with the same owner. At the end of my research process I was left with 2 companies I was willing to do business with - and I went with Mold Solutions. I'm glad I chose them. Glad - and lucky. Jonathan and Amanda of Mold Solutions scheduled the work in a timely fashion, came out on time, paid attention to details, did a thorough job of prep, remediation and clean-up, and kept me fully informed the entire time. They did what they said they were going to do for the price they said they were going to charge - with no BS. After the attic dried out it was PRISTINE. If you have a mold problem, don't bother calling anyone else. We moved in and discovered a lot of black mold under our sink which had grown all over the back wall inside the cabinet and giving off a dank smell. So gross. After purchasing a home mold detector kit from Home Depot to confirm the presence of airborne mold, I contacted Amanda at the end of day and she was amazingly fast to respond. She scheduled a quick inspection, provided a quote and before we knew it, we were scheduled and done!
