Got charged over $400 for a routine checkup after I was told my insurance would cover the majority of the cost. Would not reccomend

I've been a client for a few years and the doctor and facilities are really good so I kept coming back. But I can't give a good review anymore because of their billing practices. They used to be in network and they switched it this year with me being unaware. When they were going through how much we needed done I felt a little pressured and was presented with a $6,000 quote. At that point I kinda thought something was off, but I thought it was just because a lot of work was required. And I didn't question it because I did feel pressured and then guilty if I didn't go through with it. It kinda felt like a car dealership but with softer sales practices. When they told me they have 0% loans I decided to go through with it. Today I received the claim and it stated I could've saved at least $1,000 after the first procedure if I went to an in network doctor. This wil go to at least $2,000 and maybe $3,000. It's my fault for not questioning the quote as i just assumed it was the lowest price, as they were always in network before. It's not their job to tell me they switched to out of network it just would've been a kind and honest thing to do even if you risk losing business, especially for someone who is a prior patient. Now I am going to cancel the rest of the work that needs to be done even though half is already complete. I will find someone in network and save the $2k. I feel sad and feel like I was taken advantage of. I don't like writing bad reviews but I felt I must. Thank you for reading read more

I highly recommend Molar City on Western Ave in Chicago. The entire staff is so friendly and kind. Joey, Claudia, Shelby and of course Dr. Ng were truly amazing. I'm 66 yrs old and my memories of dentistry growing up were slightly traumatizing. I'm am usually terrified going to the dentist, but Dr.Ng immediately put me at ease. I could have gone through unnecessary procedures that would cost me thousands of dollars. I went to see other reputable dentists to get the second and third opinions, and nothing turned up worth going through those procedures. They will push you to have night guards, fluoride, and so forth to squeeze every penny out of you. read more

I saw Dr Huynh in March of 2023, my husband saw her a few weeks before and said everything went great so I was eager to get in for my first cleaning after getting my braces off a few days before. Dr Huynh said I had to come back for a deep clean at a later time and that I had gingivitis. I also just recently had a baby and she proceeded to say how hard it is to take care of yourself once you have an infant, insinuating that I don't take care of myself. I was so offended by her words and insinuations I left in tears and I let her know how I felt. Maybe it was the postpartum hormones or maybe she was just rude as hell and didn't mean to be. I went to a new dentist about a month later out of state since I moved and he said I had no issues and definitely did not have gingivitis. Maybe they have good intentions maybe they don't. I've read other reviews saying they're quite expensive so could be possible they're trying to upsell you on procedures you don't actually need. Get a second opinion. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Ng for many years now. He has always been so genuine and compassionate about my oral care. He has never tried to push anything on me, only making recommendations that he felt would keep my teeth and gums happy and healthy. He suggested a night guard because of my teeth grinding, which I resisted for several years, not wanting to deal with the inconvenience or the cost. When he pointed out that my gums were receding, I finally decided to take his advice and have been able to slow the recession. (I just wish I'd listened sooner!) I also eat a lot of colorful foods (turmeric, berries, etc.), which have stained my teeth over time. I thought it was just something I was going to have to live with, but at my most recent check-up, the dynamic duo of Lina and Brandon brought my teeth back to a shade I haven't seen in ages! I'm so thankful to have a dentist in our community who really cares about his patients and offers so many options for their comfort and care during the process. I've been going here for years. I had 3 cavities filled/repaired earlier this summer by Dr. Ng. In the process of trying to numb my mouth, he dislocated my jaw. I was unable to open my jaw more than an inch for several months. My bite was no longer aligned. For someone who has had braces twice and recently paid a lot of money for Invisalign, I was very upset. When I reached out for help from Dr. Ng he said "he was not comfortable trying to help fix my jaw and I should reach out to a jaw specialist." Which is obviously as you might guess, incredibly expensive. And took several emails and reach outs to even get guidance from his staff. Response time has always been an issue. They also went out of network- meaning, you pay more money up front and the dentist dictates the prices rather than insurance companies. Their prices are already astronomical in comparison to the local market. And they will try to upsell on procedures. Something is off here in regards to pricing and billing. Use caution. read more

My family had gone to Molar city for several years (I have 5 kids and as they were getting older we were switching them over to Molar City like my husband and me). Well, my second kid had their first appt today at Molar City & I got sick last night & I thought the responsible thing to do would be to reschedule the appt so I don't get everyone in that office sick. I called and texted before they opened & called to reschedule. I was put on hold for a while & then told I would have to put a deposit down if I wanted to schedule because I cancelled in under 48 hours. I have never cancelled before & between all of us my family has gone about 8 times in the last 3 years. I'm done going there & thought others might like to hear what happens even if you are loyal and make all appts but get sick closer than 48 before. read more

Really nice brand new facility and top end treatment to boot. Dr. Ng knows how to manage this technologically driven practice and everything is well thought out from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. If I could give Molar City ten stars, I would! I love everything about them: the people, the technology {cleanings done under a microscope!}, the location, and of course, their expertise. Dr. Ng is a wonderful dentist. He's extremely knowledgeable and has the perfect temperament for a nervous patient like me. I also see Dr. Chong for my Invisalign and he has gone above and beyond in taking over my case from my dentist that I started it with in Boston. {And he uses a machine that takes DIGITAL impressions, so no messy, uncomfortable molds!} Molar City also offers an awesome annual cleaning package and as someone who needs four cleanings a year, it is the best way to go. Well let me tell you, your views on dentistry will change once you visit Dr. Ng and his staff! To say they are great is an understatement, I always feel like I'm seeing old friends and leave smiling, which is great because Dr. Ng and his staff get to show off their craft! I have a lot of anxiety with dental work and they (Dr. Ng, Jackie, and the office staff) were so professional, calm, organized, and knowledgeable that it was fantastic. Best dentist experience I've ever had! I haven't been to the dentist in awhile, but Dr Ng and his staff made me feel so comfortable.
