    Dirt

I'm glad there's a Mokkoji location in Northridge since I've regularly ordered takeout from other locations in Orange County. Unfortunately, my most recent takeout order from the Northridge store was very disappointing. First, the packaging of the order was poorly done. Whoever prepared the takeout could use training on how to organize and package orders properly. Second, unlike other Mokkoji locations, no condiments were included with the order. I'm not sure if this was an oversight or an attempt to cut costs, or by request only, but it negatively impacted my meal. Third, the shredded radish that normally comes with the meat was missing. Lastly, the vegetables were not properly cleaned and still had visible dirt on them. Overall, it felt like there was a lack of attention to detail when preparing my order. Since this location is still relatively new, I hope these issues can be addressed. Whether through better staff training or improved quality control, I'd like to see the Northridge location meet the same standards as your other restaurants.

Love love their lunch special and I hope its stays at that price with their free killer green tea lychee. The portions are perfect. Just the right amount of rice, veggies to meat ratio. The pork broth was rich and delicious. The two dipping sauces were also good. Love how its nut allergy free. My nephew is allergic to nuts and all sorts of things. So, I can def take him here without worrying he will break out. Lastly, my kids both got rice for free. At first I thought they might not like the rice because it wasn't as white as they are used to. However it was light brown with more fulfilling and nutty taste. Overall experince was a plus. We didn't have to wait, food came out right away beside the meat, and the place was clean, organized and had wonderful staff.

Tried Mokiji's Shabu Shabu and overall had a great experience. You can tell they're still fairly new, so there were a few small service hiccups and things felt a little sloppy at times but honestly that's expected while a spot is finding its rhythm. The staff was still friendly and trying their best, which goes a long way. The food was solid and definitely the highlight. Fresh ingredients, tasty broths, and a fun shabu shabu experience that makes it worth the visit. I'd definitely come back again. Maybe the team members should help each other out when they can so guests aren't left hanging for too long, but that's just my opinion. Once they tighten up the service flow, this place has a lot of potential. Also... fair warning: don't get the hot drops unless you're trying to fight for your life

Hooray! Another shabu place in the valley! Lunch special is what got us here on a Monday . 19.99 for their original beef broth, veggies, udon, and flat iron meat slices. Beware of the ghost pepper drops they are HOT but delicious if you want the spice that lingers. Ponzu and peanut sauce were great with the meat. The quality of the toro meat was excellent. Service was a little slow for a busy Monday. Ambiance is casual. Good seating arrangement not too crowded feeling. A little pricey but would come back!

I give this place 4/5. New open location next to super kings. Inside is clean and good table spacing and well lighted. The staff was very helpful in n helping me understand the menu and how it should be done. They explained what is included in the lunch special. Hospitality was great. 5/5. Food wise was not bad. The ghost pepper drop had an insane kick. Veggies and 10cut pieces of meat were good including the traditional broth. With free green tea 4/5. Overall it was a good experience.

I LOVE Mokkoji Shabu Shabu. So happy they opened up near LA, saves me the drive to OC. The whole experience was great. The meats and veggies all tasted really fresh, and the broths had a lot of flavor. I have ordered the Spicy Sukiyaki, Spicy Miso, and Spicy Pork broths with the Flat Iron Mokkoji, Zabuton, and New York cuts. The staff was friendly and checked in on us without being over the top, which I appreciated. It was also pretty clean and had a nice vibe--not too loud or crowded. Overall, it's a solid spot if you're craving hot pot. I came back twice already!

I LOVE mokkoji. I would go to the Costa Mesa location often and I'm so glad that this is in the valley. I went for their soft opening, service was a bit slow but it's okay since it's their first week but anyway the food was bomb as expected. This location is bit stingy on the meats tho :P I had to order more. It's pricey so it adds up. My soup took a long time to boil which was kinda annoying too. I love ordering their sukiyaki/ spicy crab! Add the spicy drops for that extra kick!

Restaurant is very clean and servers greeted us as we walked in. I ordered the $20 lunch combo it came with a plate of meat, veggies, and a choice of green or black tea. I was surprised that the portions were generous and it was very filling. The meat was super tender and chewy. The two dipping sauces pair well with each other. Definitely would be a regular here and would save the trip of going to LA.

Came to Mokkoji with a friend for the soft opening and I must say... I most definitely am a fan of this new establishment. Upon arrival it was POPPIN, but the wait time flew by (you get a text when the table is ready). We were seated at the counter. The restaurant is bright and spacious so you won't feel cramped. Music is played at a decent level so you can talk without having to shout. Everything was well-kept and organized. Staff were helpful with recommendations and they were thorough with the explanation of the menu. Shabu shabu always feels like playing with your food. It's very interactive and fun and Mokkoji checked all these boxes. We tried the Beef Sampler for 2 (spicy pork + spicy sukiyaki) and my goodness, errthang was SO FILLING. The shrimp appetizer it came with was unique ~ had a great crunch & a mysterious black dipping sauce on the side. I forgot which meat was which, but honestly they were all very savory once dipped in the broths. The meat cuts were thin and cooked up with a quickness, after just a few swishes. I will say the marinated cut was my fave! The amount of food you get with the noodles, veggies, app, drinks and taiyaki dessert, was A LOT to devour in one sitting lol. I thought my spicy sukiykaki soup base would come with a dipping egg on the side, but maybe I was mistaken. Other than that I have no complaints, and the set for 2 truly is a great deal if you A HUNGRY. Now that it's been a couple weeks, I'm actually ready for my next set because I need to try more meats and soups. Oh and big side note, but this is the only local shabu shabu I've ever actually enjoyed so there ya go ~

Mokkoji is one of SO's fave, so we're glad to see it closer to home. Came for their soft opening night and it was pretty dang busy (which is good indication for bomb food!) Despite it being their first day, service was friendly and relatively quick (shout out to Jaylene). Inside is clean and modern, with poppin' music. - Flat Iron Mokkoji Cut (Regular, 10 pcs) for $23.98 with spicy broth (+$1): filling and just the right amount for me. It is a little on the pricier side, but if you care about quality melt-in-your-mouth meat, it's def worth. Can ask for more bok choy, kale, cabbage at no cost. Broth was clean tasting, with a kick. The yuzu and peanut sauces are also note-worthy. Unlike my prior experiences at other locations, they offer ghost pepper drops to enhance the sauces (if you prefer spice, I recommend four drops ;) ) Ample parking further out in the parking lot, as it can get congested as this location is next to a busy grocery store. Would def come backkk

This was my second time trying hot pot and as someone who is not familiar with the experience, this time was so much better. The service was great, Andrew was amazing! He gave great recommendations, checked in often, and made sure I had everything I needed. They also currently have 1/2 off beers on weekdays, making them only $3. WORTH. I got the spicy sukiyaki broth and it was really good. Also the chili oil drops are NO JOKE literally two drops went such a long way, but I love me some spice. The $20 weekday special is super worth it. It even comes with a drink, so I tired the lychee green tea. You can also get more veggies if you want, but honestly the portion was already really satisfying to me. I left full but not feeling all heavy and gross after eating. Definitely good eats and I'd come back again.

3 of us went there for dinner as it shows on Yelp as new and upcoming. It was a waste of our $150. All 3 platter of veggies was so dirty like it was just picked from the dirt to plop it on our table. Now we all know those are not organic. Beef was fresh but the lamb as you can see it's been there quite sometime cause the putter edges has a black rim around it. Though waiter was nice and very apologetic but he shouldn't have to of the manager can manage and check his Pepsi t before it goes out to customers. They offered to rewatch but kale came back with aphids on the leaves still. This place gets a thumbs down from me. Warning if you have small children and the elderly with you please check your veggie and meat before cooking them.

Came for dinner tonight. Instant regret. Let me start by saying the place is new and clean. A bit pricey for what you get. My BF got the combo set with toro belly and pork belly with sukiyaki. My daughter and I shared the 10pc brisket plate, added ramen and quail eggs. With the chicken broth. I also ordered the chicken wings. The waitress advised if I was sharing with my daughter we have to get the share set, we argued that because my daughter and I don't eat much. And she doesn't really meat so to charge us an extra $15 for her set was kind of defeating the purpose of sharing our meal. The chicken broth was kind of bland nothing notable. Sukiyaki was a basic sukiyaki broth again nothing notable. The meat seemed to be of good quality and all in all it was a decent meal. About 10 minutes after finishing our meal I started to get major stomach cramps. I almost didn't make it home!!! I felt so sick. As soon as I parked I ran straight to the bathroom. About 1 hr later my BF is in our other bathroom major stomach cramps and pain. My daughter is fine but she did not eat any meat. I guess I can't really say if this is what made us sick. But, its pretty coincidental. Unfortunately I don't think we will be back.

Wished they mentioned that when I called so we didn't have to waste time looking for street parking. Food was ok, there weren't many options to choose from other than a few repeated items. The sauce bar was pretty confusing since their name didn't match where they put the sauce. The portion of the meat side were too little and can only order 4 at a time. Our adviser, Alex, was so helpful and brought out their special sauces that defining elevated our experience. He explained each beef profile and the broths in detail and walked us through the best way to eat. I was skeptical at first how much different the wagyu versus non-wagyu meats are so we tried the wagyu round versus the eye of round to compare an we can immediately taste the difference. The wagyu melts in your mouth, there's a stronger umami flavor, and overall sticks to your tastebuds much stronger than the non-wagyu beef. Both delicious but I did find the wagyu beef a lot more memorable and much easier to chew. The service here was fantastic and shoutout Alex again for pointing out the happy hour specials. We enjoyed $2 house sake which is unheard of! I love the ambiance in here because you can come as you are but still feels elevated and comfortable. Highly recommend to come with a friend or group and enjoy the experience together.

Even though they couldn't accommodate we appreciated the attempt. Everything down to the food and drinks is great. Highlights: - tomatoes n sukiyaki - milk tea and coffee jelly - black cherry ice cream I deducted a star because we were a party of 4 on one burner. We saw an empty table next to us with 2 burners so we kindly asked if we could move. She said no because the two burner tables were for parties of 5 plus. Totally understandable! An hour passes and we see a party of 3 at a 2 burner table AND that empty table still empty. Food is great; make sure you make a reservation!
