Given the number of reviews and the rating, I came in with high expectations. Unfortunately, Mojo did not deliver. Walking up there is a small dining patio and two doors. The door with the hours listed apparently isn't the one you enter through. There's a side door. You enter a room with a could of tables.... and... just stand there. Until you figure out there's a tiny room with a sushi bar. I get it, the place is small... but zero thought went into greeting and seating. Fortunately it wasn't busy but I wouldn't want a crowd of people hovering over my table waiting to find anyone to greet them. Service was OK. Fish was decent quality. It's more on the expensive side, which is fine, but this visit i didn't feel was worth the price. Sushico in Newton is leagues above, especially at this price point. The stand out pieces were the scallop and uni. These are hard to find at every sushi place. I was disappointed over all.

No longer new to Wakefield, Mojo shines in the area for offering the highest quality sushi available in Metro Boston. The co-owner/sushi chef is purchasing from the same exact suppliers and purchases the highest quality fish that the top tier omakase restaurants in Boston purchase. Mojo Sushi is not your run of the mill suburban low quality sushi restaurant which you can find in every town and city across the state. In fact, we have one of those places around the corner from Mojo. This restaurant focuses on providing the absolute best sushi available to customers. Do note, it is a tiny family owned/run restaurant, sometimes it is only the sushi chef / owner there, which limits the service they can provide. If you are looking for white glove service, this isn't what they are able to provide as a small restaurant. While there are plenty of quiet off hours to eat, sometimes they do get slammed from people who all want to eat at the same exact time, so you will need to be patient if you're choosing to dine when everyone else wants to. You will have a much better experience if you come during a slower day or less busy time to eat. If you want to place a larger order, call ahead with plenty of notice so you aren't waiting. The head sushi chef (co-owner) Allen comes most recently from Oishii in Boston and is always interested in any tweaks to make on the menu. He has a funny sense of humor and likes to joke around. If you don't like dad jokes or don't have a sense of humor, you may not understand (I saw a couple of negative reviews from people who clearly don't have sense of humors). The restaurant is cozy/tiny. It has some seating right at the sushi bar and less than a handful of tables (inside) in a small room next door. Definitely sit at the sushi bar if there is room. During nice weather, outside tables are also available, but if the Owner/Chef is all alone working, as is often the case during lunch hours, you may need to go inside to order. Both omakase style sushi and traditional sushi are available. Nigiri and sashimi are omaskase style by default. If you do not want certain nigiri lightly torched or with the chef's special toppings, you need to let him know when ordering, he is glad to accommodate however you want your sushi made, whether you want traditional sushi with no toppings, or omakase style as is, which will involve his special toppings and sometimes a light torch. Personally I order my nigiri or sashimi with his toppings but without a torch, because that is how I prefer my sushi. Don't miss trying the oshizushi (oshi sushi) pressed sushi, one of my favorite Japanese sushi dishes. Available with your choice fish (salmon / hamachi are my recommendation) or vegetarian (vegan friendly) - the vegetarian/vegan option isn't on the menu anymore, but he will gladly accommodate the vegan/vegetarians in your party. I have updated my review since I have now come to eat here endless many dozens of times since they opened. You will not find a sushi chef around more dedicated to providing the best possible sushi available. Prices will be more than your run of the mill corner suburban sushi shop, but there is no comparison when you taste what he is serving in comparison. Some of my favorites are the Sake/Salmon, Bluefin Tuna (different and much better than typical Yellowfin Tuna), Hamachi/Yellow Tail, Ocean Trout, and Saba (Pickled Mackerel). He makes an excellent poke bowl as well. If you're on a tight budget, the poke bowls, oshizushi (pressed sushi), and handrolls are the most budget friendly sushi options on the menu.

WOW- an amazing dining experience!! I loved everything about this omakase experience. Chef Allen is a master sushi chef. The attention to detail while entertaining his customers made it an unforgettable experience. Your tastebuds will be satisfied at many levels! It is a small place and that adds to the appeal of the experience. We will definitely will be back in the future as I'd like to try his hand rolls and other things on the menu.

Had a wonderful and absolutely delicious omakase dinner here. The chef is so talented and detail-oriented. He made our meal so special and fun, and he's so funny! The interior is very simple, no frills, which I like. Better to pay for great food than fancy decor!

Tiny spot. INCREDIBLE SUSHI. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and had just missed the lunch rush. All counter seats had been occupied as well as the tables in the adjoining room, clearly a popular spot. The menu is extensive and there were some unique items like the tuna dumpling, which is a must try! We also ordered fried shumai, maki rolls and sushi. I was simply blown away by the freshness, quality and flavors of everything we tried. The chef clearly takes pride in every single item thats crafted. This truly is a hidden gem and I can't wait to come back. Its on the smaller side so if you are a larger party or here for omakase, would highly recommend calling in. Plenty of parking available.

I was really excited to try Mojo since it has such great reviews, but unfortunately I left feeling a bit dissatisfied with both the food and the service. I honestly don't like leaving negative reviews, especially for small restaurants, but I also believe in being truthful so they can improve. I understand that these days it's difficult to hire enough staff, but I also believe that treating employees with kindness is the key to building a strong team. I don't speak Japanese, so maybe I misunderstood the situation, but it wasn't pleasant seeing the chef scold the server harshly for accidentally delivering a plate to the wrong table. Considering there was only one chef and one server handling three tables plus delivery orders, I could understand the stress -- but still, the attitude came across as unnecessarily rude. As for the food, it was okay, but nothing that really stood out. The rice in the nigiri had an odd flavor, almost like it had absorbed smells from the fridge, which made it hard to enjoy. The dishes I was most excited for -- the wagyu and fatty tuna -- were also disappointing, as both were unexpectedly tough to chew. I truly believe this restaurant has potential, but it needs improvements. Hiring more staff would make a big difference, as two people simply can't handle busy service smoothly. I hope they take this feedback as constructive criticism, because with some adjustments, Mojo could really become the great place it has the potential to be.

My very first omakase experience and I had a great time! The restaurant is super cute, small, and cozy. The sushi bar is very small and limited spacing for omakase... and they have a couple tables inside. They have more seating outside. When I went there was also another party doing omakase so the chef was making rounds for all of us at the same time. It was a very busy day that day but everything was very fast and presentable. Every item was super unique and refreshing. Great quality sushi and nicely prepped. The chef was very nice and friendly. We had a great time here, but I did leave hungry and wanting more. It was too good!

Highly recommend with praise. Chef Allen and Yoki are friendly quirky and sweet. This hole in the wall is inviting and sophisticated serving elegant omakase! Everything on their menu was fresh and delicious!

Fresh and authentic food. Recommend sushi lovers to try this place! Hidden gem!! Place is small so if you have a large party of 8 or more I suggest you call first!

I've had a number of different omakase experiences over the years in Boston (e.g Umami, No Relations, O Ya, Uni, Cafe Sushi, Zuma, Ruka, Laughing Monk, Momi Nonmi, Ebi, Purple Shell) and this is probably my overall favorite spot for omakase in the area when considering the balance of the price, the quality of the fish, the rice, and experience. The omakase is currently priced at $90 for 14 different courses (12 pieces of nigiri, 2 cold appetizer/refreshers, plus a free miso soup) in which the experience lasts about a little over 1 hour. I loved that a number of the fish that they served were directly imported from Japan and that I was able to taste the natural fresh cleanliness of the fish. This was very much appreciated and important to me given that i personally think that the fish itself should be the center of attention and not all the additional unnecessary glitzy jazzy add-ons which may sometimes overpower the fish itself. The Hokkaido sea urchin here was also very delicious! If you order this a la carte, they will only charge you $8 dollars for this which is an absolute steal considering the quality that you are getting. I love sea urchin and I've easily paid 2-3x more for this at other restaurants and they were nowhere as good. I left here very happy and will look forward to coming back!

Very small restaurant. Service was fine. Food was great! The nigiri was really the star of the show. So beautifully prepared. Wasabi flavor was amazing. Everything we ate was great. We had no issues with anything. Top notch my friend.

A hole in the wall sushi location meets upscale, premium quality food. Mojo is great. I went there the first week open and they were working on their timing of food, but the kind heartedness of the husband and wife owners, and clear passion that they have for their food was evident. Was greeted with excited arms and took all of their recs on ordering. Everything was delicious and the fish was clearly high quality. A bit pricier than your average sushi spot but the product is also a lot higher. Smaller space inside, but spaces to sit nonetheless and come warm weather, premier outside spot on Main St right near the lake looking forward to trying more.

All fine in their own right, but not exactly the environment you think of when selecting a sushi restaurant. Then, just to enter, you need to find the entrance behind a support column and take an elevator up to the second floor. So right off the bat it's a bit strange. That being said, once we were seated for AYCE, everything was superb. The server would bring us a new order card immediately after we ordered each round of food and checked back often ensuring we never had to wait very long for the next round of food to come out. The entire menu was available...sushi, sashimi, rolls (including the special rolls), apps, soups, salads, and hibachi. The sushi wasn't elite, but absolutely fresh and tasty. And the wine is very reasonably priced. There is also a hibachi area of the restaurant that we didn't visit, but we could hear it. It was loud and full of families and it sounded like the chefs were putting on a good show and everyone was enjoying themselves.

Staff were nice and I noticed that all the waitstaff worked together with different people checking in on us and delivering/clearing dishes. Started with fried shumai which was usual as it's most likely frozen and fried-nothing crazy. What we were most excited for was their sushi. The fish was insanely fresh that you could taste the difference. The rice bowl came with miso soup and the portion was large enough to easily feed two people. Glad we made the visit after hearing from several people how good their food is. We will be coming back!

The dining room has a nice vibe -- modern, clean, and comfortable. It feels like a good spot for a casual date or catching up with friends. That said, the noise level builds quickly. Everyone was chatting, and you could easily overhear conversations without even trying. Service was genuinely great. Our server checked in consistently for water refills, cleared plates quickly, and asked if we needed anything -- but never felt overbearing. That balance is appreciated and made the experience smoother. One thing worth noting: some menu prices are higher than you might expect, especially since Google lists the average around $20-$30 per person. For some of the higher-priced items, photos on the menu would really help set expectations. The portions do help justify the entrée pricing somewhat, but the overall bill -- $110 for a late lunch for two -- was honestly higher than expected. We started with the spicy edamame. To make it spicy was a $2 upcharge, which felt unnecessary -- most places offer regular, sea salt, or spicy at the base price. That rubbed me the wrong way. For sushi, we ordered two pieces of unagi and two pieces of wagyu. The fish/meat to rice ratio was generous (see picture). The unagi sushi is something a sushi chef can't really mess up -- solid and as expected. The wagyu sushi, however, had a very intense char on top and was extremely fatty. Depending on your preference, that could be a plus or a bit overpowering. The spicy beef rice bowl was a very large portion -- honestly enough to split between two people. The onions had a nice crunch and weren't soggy, which I appreciated. The beef is shaved rather than sliced, and you can't choose how it's cooked. The spice level was faint, should have spice level indicators on items like this. I did feel like the dish was missing another vegetable element that could have elevated it. The chicken curry bento box came with a lot: two tempura shrimp, two deep-fried pork gyoza, one sweet potato tempura, sticky rice, and the curry chicken. The chicken was very tender. The curry had that strong, classic curry aroma and was well balanced in flavor. Nothing to rave about. Both meals came with miso soup and salad. The salad dressing wasn't for me; I prefer something tangy, and this one tasted more like pan juices from cooked meat. For dessert, we tried the vanilla crepe cake. It honestly tasted like tiramisu. If they offered a matcha version, that might have set it apart more. I wouldn't order it again. Overall, I'm glad we tried it and had the experience. The service and portion sizes stood out positively. However, for the price point, it's not a "must-return" spot for me, and not somewhere I'd immediately recommend off the top of my head when people ask.
