My first experience with ACC was in the middle of July when my A/C started to go out. They came over the same day of my phone call and pinpointed the issue. They ordered and installed a new evaporator unit 3 days from then and did a clean job getting me back up and running. Recently had issues with my furnace and they sent someone over the next day and promptly got the issue fixed (luckily, I didn't need any parts replaced).

Travis was on time, responsive with questions and calls and was clean and respectful. He completed the entire job quickly and was very clean. I absolutely recommend Travis and Altitude Climate Control for installations and service.

1 STAR -- A $49 OFFER TURNED INTO A $7,000+ INVOICE + FEES + DAMAGE…read more What began as a $49 air-duct cleaning offer resulted in an invoice for more than $7,000, financing fees, an A/C repair, damaged vents, and multiple unresolved problems. My home is new construction and primarily had a thin layer of construction dust and debris in the ductwork. The technician made the condition seem extremely urgent, and I felt pressured to make an expensive decision immediately instead of having time to research my options. I repeatedly told him I could not afford the recommended air-purification system and was willing to wait and pay cash later. Instead, I was encouraged to open a Synchrony Professional Services credit card and have everything installed that day. The financing was not adequately explained. I was not clearly informed beforehand of $600+ in fees, including $525.02 and $69 on my invoice plus a $29 Synchrony activation fee that pushed the card over its limit. I am also paying 8% interest. Promotional financing was not available for the initial transaction. Had I understood these costs, I would have waited and paid cash as I originally said I wanted to. The technician also told me the installed air-purification system would completely eliminate cooking odors traveling throughout my home. That has not been my experience. He told me I could get rid of the individual air purifiers I use in rooms for my infant and my two-year-old with asthma. I am not comfortable doing that, especially because I was promised before-and-after air-quality testing that never happened. I later found what appears to be a newer model with an installation kit at Home Depot for around $500. Had I not felt pressured to decide immediately, I could have researched the equipment, compared prices, and discussed installation with an electrician for a fraction of what I ultimately paid. After the cleaning, my one-year-old A/C would not turn back on. Apex could not return until later that afternoon on an approximately 90-degree day. With an infant in the home, I was not willing to wait without working A/C. I paid $200 for an independent HVAC technician to repair the problem after Apex left with the system not working. The cleanup was also unacceptable. I found nails, screws, and even broken glass around areas where vents had been removed. I had to clean underneath the vents and vacuum everything myself. With a two-year-old crawling and playing in these areas, this was extremely concerning. Three large return vents were damaged and warped from the way they were screwed back into place. Some vents were not cleaned at all. I specifically requested a duct-camera inspection, but the technician arrived without a duct camera and used his cell phone in select areas. I also requested before-and-after air-quality testing and received neither. After the cleaning, I began finding pieces of fiberglass insulation coming through the vents. I contacted customer service approximately three weeks ago, and these concerns remain unresolved. One of the charges pushed the Apex-financed credit card over its limit, yet I have essentially been told that the fee is my responsibility. This is particularly frustrating because I specifically said BEFORE agreeing to the system that I could not afford it and wanted to wait. I started with a $49 cleaning offer for construction dust in a new home. I ended up with a $7,000+ invoice, $600+ in financing-related fees, 8% interest, a $200 HVAC repair, three damaged return vents, missed vents, sharp debris left behind, no promised air-quality testing, no comprehensive duct-camera inspection, fiberglass coming through my vents, and an expensive system that has not performed as represented to me. The most frustrating part is that I was willing to wait. Had the complete financing costs been disclosed and had I been given time to research the equipment, I would have made a very different decision. Customers spending thousands of dollars deserve complete pricing and financing information before agreeing to the work, time to research their options without feeling pressured into an immediate purchase, and a home that is left clean and safe afterward. Based on my experience, I do not recommend Apex.

We had 5 other HVAC companies bid on installing a 9k BTU mini-split/heat pump and to replace our…read morewater heater. We chose (poorly) Apple Aire based on price, experience, and friendliness. It started out with them missing the initial consultation appointment. I blocked off 2 hours, as they requested, and nobody came. I had to contact them to reschedule. Mini-split: The proposed placement of the external unit was altered upon installation. Not what I had agreed upon, but what could I have done? I helped the installer move some furniture so he would have space to install the head unit. Once completed, he moved them back himself. Ok, fine. But he didn't clean up. We have plaster walls and the plaster was everywhere. I even put a broom and dustpan next to the work space so at least *I* would be able to quickly clean up. Yet, we didn't realize that he didn't clean up until my wife felt plaster in the bed and on the floor that night. Since the furniture was moved back, we assumed he had cleaned. Nope. Unit works fine, but leaked on the inside (on plaster, floor, furniture) from day one. The drip hose outside wasn't installed properly, pushed water back in. The installer came back, cut the hose, and loosely placed it on the basement egress. It didn't work. I manually drained the hose outside every so often for 4 days. Not fun at night. Sleepless nights, especially combined with the water heater fiasco. Water heater: The pilot light would not stay lit while the installers were here. After many attempts of lighting it, then it going out, they just left and said if it continues to call them. I called them the next day--after I tried lighting it several times; they came out and couldn't figure out why it kept going out, but finally it stayed lit. Then it went out again. So they sent the manufacturer's rep. What he (not Apple Aire) noticed was that: 1) The new tank was installed in such a way that the internal access point was facing the wall. So, they came back out and rotated the tank; 2) They cut an old copper drain pipe from the floor, and the remainder was sticking out, making the drip pan they placed over it not level, thus negating its purpose. 3) The venting needed adjustment and, as a safety precaution, the tank would extinguish the pilot light. When it stayed lit, the heat built up enough to start melting plastic rings on the tank. The space became overheated. Gas leak? Maybe, but who really cares? Again, the manufacturer pointed all of this out; 4) No expansion tank was installed. As with the mini-split, the work area was not cleaned. Bits of metal and screws were laying around, even under the tank. AND, either when they turned off the main water, or turned it back on, they opened the wrong valve. Our irrigation system is connected to city water. We've never used it as we have access to ditch water. So, it's been off for at least 10 years. Once they opened it, the pressure shot off the cap outside and created a water jet shooting down into our yard, right next to the foundation. I noticed it as I was walking them out and heard a water jet sound. I (and they) found the water drilling a hole ~2 feet deep. The mud from this drilling filled the adjacent irrigation valve box, covering all components in water, mud, dirt. How they can throw the wrong valve is beyond me; it's pretty easy to spot the incoming pipe. I have to replace the cap for that external pipe. No permits were pulled prior to installation. Since then, they've been pulled, but no inspections yet. The owner(?) came out to fix things. To his credit, he was disappointed. But, he got paid. And we're out thousands of dollars.

I initially had a positive experience with Top Shelf when they installed my AC and furnace…read more However, I am updating my review because I hired Top Shelf to look at my furnace that was not working. When they came out they pretty much immediately discovered that someone had shut off my gas. They were at my house for a little under a half hour and charged me $250 to turn the gas lever on. When I asked for an explanation of cost they told me they actually lost money on the call because it took the technician 45 minutes to drive to my house due to snow. They also said they lost money on the call because it costs at least $300 to have someone drive to a house and walk in to provide a service regardless of how long they are there or what the issue is. Obviously I had no way of knowing that it was going to snow when I made the appointment/my furnace stopped working or that the technician didn't live near me. I'm still not sure why that would be factored in to the price. I would have preferred to move the appointment if I had known I'd be charged more due to snowy travel times. I would have also like to know that it was going to cost hundreds of dollars regardless of the problem. I was very surprised because I had such a great experience with them before as far as pricing and explanation and felt taken advantage of this time. I value the work of electricians and technicians but $250 to turn on a gas lever in under a half hour seems very steep to me.
