Since Norcross is going to be our new 'hood, my husband and I thought we'd give Mojitos a try. I'm glad we did. I made reservations and was immediately encouraged by the fact that there was loud cuban music in the background and the fact that the owner admonished me for having the last name Martinez, but not speaking Spanish. The ambiance is cute inside. It's a small place, and somewhat dark, but there are fun throwback posters of Cuba in the restaurant and adorable family pictures in the loo. Our server was excellent. She clearly knew the menu and provided great service. I'm no Mojito expert, but the one I ordered was delicious! It tasted like minty lime juice with a kick. I had a chicken and rice dish and my husband had the ribs. Both were wonderful. They came with a creamy and chunky avacado salad and a plantain pancake. I am not crazy about plantains (I know, I know) as a side dish, so I was eager to try the plantain pancakes. They too were good. They were crispy on the outside, had good flavor, and were slightly salty. They were somewhat similar to a potato pancake, but the plantain gave them a slightly sweet flavor. Yum. For dessert (and DO NOT skip dessert--you will be sorry) I ordered a mango pie (think key lime, but mango flavored) and my husband got the tres leches. The mango pie was smooth and had intense mango flavor. It had a wonderful graham cracker crust and was delicious! The tres leches was the best I've ever had. It's what tres leches is supposed to taste like--nothing at all like the overly sugary, somewhat preservative flavored stuff of my past. No, this was an amazing butter cake that had just been drenched in sweet milky goodness. It was amazing. If you're in old Norcross, you should hit this place up. They had live music on the Friday we were there. read more

I lived in Florida so I grew up eating cuban food, especially cuban sandwiches. I came out of my way to eat here and it was a little disappointing. The Cuban was good, nothing special. I've not had cuban bread quite that spongy before. It wasn't packed but 2music was sort of loud, and I felt ignored. No offer of a drink refill, and after waiting for several minutes after being finished I had to ask for my check. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't go out of my way again to go back. read more

This Norcross restaurant is in a quaint part of town about five to ten minutes from the technology park. I guess it would be considered Historic Norcross...The entire neighborhood was well appointed with landscaping and brick sidewalks. It was very nice area with about two to three blocks of shops and restaurants. Tonight...I checked out Mojitos. The air conditioner inside was kicking and I was actually a little chilly in the restaurant. Mostly because all of the best seating was taken...i.e. the three to four tables outside on the sidewalk. The host and waiters welcomed me very warmly and thanked me for coming. Before I sat down I asked the waiter for a good local beer. He smiled and came right back with an Abita Turbodog...Dark brown ale with caramel and chocolate malts....pretty tasty...I ejoyed it more than I thought I wood since I am mostly a pilsner man. This was a pilsner but because of the malts it had the color of a Samuel Adams style ale. The ambiance was excellent. Nice Cuban soundtrack at a reasonable volume. Dark and poorly lit...i.e perfect for a night out with your special lady (or significant other). I ordered the breaded chicken fillet (Pollo Empanizado). A chicken breast fillet lightly breaded and pan fried with a very nice seasoning. It looked like a really large chicken breasts pounder flat like many Cuban restaurants serve their protein. It was crispy and flavorful, but not remarkable. The pollo was served served with congri...white rice and black beans were exactly as they should be. The plantains were a little disappointing. They were a little crispy and far too few of them. I.e. I only got about three small pieces and I was left wanting for more! Generally...a nice little local establishment with a lot of locals enjoying a nice evening out at a local Cuban restaurant. read more

I'm a south Florida native in the area on business and just wanted something like home so when we heard about Mojitos, I had to come! I had the spicy oxtail and the meat was so incredibly tender and flavored.. .. I also had the empanadas sampler and the sauces were such a great addition!! The white bean soup to start was flavorful, but the black beans on the side were lukewarm and soupy. Plaintains and rice were prepared correctly. The Ropa Vieja was disappointing, almost bland. This is a fantastic little Cuban restaurant. I live 2 hours away from this area but I am in town monthly for business. I have been there 3 times and each time is better than the last. Today we had the Mariquitas, what a treat. We also had Cuban sandwiches, which were also very good. We ordered sangria and a mojito which was also great. I've dined at Mojitos on various occasions over the past few years, and it's always a great choice for solid Cuban food and reliable service. The music is always good, with a nice mix of Latin new classics, and live music on weekends. The mojitos here are very good, and when you're with a group it's a good idea to go for them by the pitcher: they go down fast and easy. As for food, it's authentic, but there are many choices for less adventurous palates. A popular option is the Pollo a la Plancha, featuring a HUGE piece of chicken, moist and flavorful. Mojitos makes great yuca, and that's not always easy. Someone knows how to pick out a good piece of yuca from the beginning, because without it, it's impossible to achieve the firm yet creamy texture, sans those pesky yuca fibers. I've had the Mariquitas (tostones, green plantains), and those are pretty standard. Their version of mojo (garlicky sauce) is delicious. I like to order the red snapper. It's nicely cooked and flavored, and you can choose your own two sides on that one. The bf usually goes for vaca frita, a flank steak. The back beans are good, though I like a little more pizzazz when I make them at home. Service is always friendly and courteous, though things take a little longer when seated out on the back patio. Prices are fair for the neighborhood and for what you get. This is one of our go-to spots in quaint, Downtown Norcross. read more

I wanted to go do something different while down in Atlanta and my friend recommended this place. We rolled in with a party of 7. The food was pretty good. We had the ham croquettes and mariquitas for appetizers along with some Cuban bread. The croquettes were interesting, crispy on the outside with a chopped ham filling. The mariquitas were excellent (basically plantain chips with dip made with oil and chopped garlic). For my entree, I had the vaca frita. I'm told that it was supposed to be tender pulled steak, but mine was pretty tough and a good jaw workout. I really liked the flavors of the meat and onions. The rice and black beans were ok. The plantains were really good. I tried some of my neighbor's guava ribs. They were phenomenal. The meat was so tender and falling off the bone. The rib plate was huge. I'd definitely go with that plate next time. The mojito I had was pretty weak, definitely way too heavy on the soda. Disappointing, especially since the name of the place is Mojito's. The service was pretty good. Our waitress was still new and unsure of the menu items, but we still had a good time. The problems with the restaurant appear to be logistics. The space is way too small (maybe 10 tables total) to have live music. If you're way too close to the band, you won't be able to hear anyone in your party. Also, we had multiple sized drink glasses because they were running low on glasses. The neighborhood is really nice and parking is not terrible. I would definitely recommend this place. It seems to not be the same frat-tastic overpriced place that I see everywhere else in Atlanta. read more

This place is always packed. Curious, hungry, and in the mood for something different, the bf and I headed in here last Friday for date night. We snagged a spot on their super-cute back deck. Service was good. Our waitress offered to help with the menu and gave some insight into a couple of dishes. We started with the yucca fries which came out piping hot alongside a yummy dipping sauce. For my entree, I had the rojo viejo, which came out like shredded pork, which I was not expecting, but it was still amazing, and we finished up with the tres leches. I got the Vaca Frita and I was super impressed. It's pulled flank steak with onions and garlic served with a side of rice, black beans, and 3 small plantains. The steak is really tender. The service here is outstanding. Immediately when I walked in, I was greeted by 2 of the wait staff and they pointed me towards my party. During the entire night, our waiter remembered all of our drink orders and refilled them accordingly, even after their official closing hour. I thought this was owned by the same people who own Mojitos off Nesbit ferry but I found out they are completely separate. I absolutely love the Mojitos on Nesbit, but I was over by my moms house and needed some Cuban in my life! The food was great, the mojitos were great, the service was outstanding and the prices were fair. Our server Erik needs some special recognition. He was so personable and gave us some great recommendations . It was my boyfriends birthday and we received a free dessert which was delicious! We've been hearing about this place for a while, as we have some friends who go often enough that they even got engaged there a few weeks back. So when it was decided that we'd go for another friend's birthday, we were all about it. Matt knows his Cuban food pretty well, being from Florida and all. I'd never had it, but I took his word that the menu looked good. We showed up with a party of 13 or 14. This place only holds about 40 people, but we surprisingly didnt have to wait long. There's not a bar area, but the hostess took drink orders while we waited for the tables to be put together. I think someone had called ahead, or maybe it was just because of who was in the party. But I think we only waited about 20 minutes. The atmosphere of the place was great. Small, family owned, and you could tell. The family gets up and does a little live music - piano, sax, a little percussion, and singing. People get up and dance, they pass around maracas and tambourines and such.... its a great time. Matt had the Media Noche sandwich - I guess its a Cuban on different bread? Like I said, I don't know Cuban. I thought it was yummy. He was very happy as well. He had the Yuca con Mojo with it, and was very happy with that as well. I had ribs, which our friends had told us the ribs were the best thing on the menu. And I absolutely believe it. First of all, I had an aunt named Jewell from Pensacola Florida. She made ribs that when you picked them up out of the pan, you had a bone in your hand. That's been my control for ribs since I was a kid. So when I started to dig into these ribs, and the first bone I grabbed had nothing but a bit of sauce on it, I was sold. Then I tasted the sauce. Are you kidding me?? Im glad I ordered a whole rack, just so we could have leftovers. I had the yuca fries with my ribs. YUM. The mojitos were good. Im not always a huge mojito drinker, but this was done well enough that I really enjoyed it. I'm still not a fan of getting bits of mint in my straw, but it comes with the territory. The best surprise of the night was our tab. Not only is this place a great ambience with excellent food, its NOT that expensive, unlike many of the overpriced restaurants we've visited in Atlanta. Not bad. And I actually think my food was the "least good" ("worst" is not an applicable word here) of the table. I had a St. Sebastian (?) cocktail (or at the very least, St. something, and it was all liquors/liqueurs with pineapple juice) and the Cuban sandwich. Sorry, Mojitos, but your Cuban is nowhere near as good as the one at Havana on Buford Hwy. It was ok, though. The side of black beans was good, though (although I didn't win the bay leaf challenge - sad panda face), and the drink was nice and strong. My friends got the Loaded Mariquetas (which looked DELICIOUS) and the Black Bean Casserole. The black bean meal came with a side of yuca that was COVERED in garlic. Yum! My big issue with this place is seating/ambience. The inside isn't very nice, and the outside (back) is tented with little to no view of the actual outside world. I think I'd prefer to sit on the sidewalk out front (where there are a couple of tables), especially because I think downtown Norcross is so very cute. So . . . I'll go back and give it another try - but no more Cuban sandwiches! read more

It's always hard to convince myself to go into Mojito's when Zapata is so close by and consistently delicious. I've hit Mojito's twice now, and both times it's been ok but not mind blowing. All of their dishes are flavorful and well-prepared, but sometimes the flavors don't mesh well (for example, the Guantanamera salad with steak has excellent elements, but the savory seasoning of the steak clashes with the sweetness of the salad, rather than complimenting it). Perhaps the most disappointing thing about Mojito's is their namesake drink: it's good, but not mind blowing. I'm not a fan of the variety of mint they use as a base (perhaps spearmint?). read more

I was here in January for a girls night (party of 4) on a Friday for live music. We had a fantastic time and are looking for going back next week. We LOVED the food and drinks, and we were lucky to sit right in front of the band. So much energy for a family owned and family performed Cuban experience. They have large food portions, fantastic appetizers (that I actually eat as my meal), and soul filled music, and friendly employees. I lived in Miami for years and love going back here for great memories. I reduce one star due to their reservations and service promptness. Maybe it has to do with a relaxed "family" feeling but they are not very efficient or accurate with the process. I made dinner reservations a week in advance but when we arrived they stated they did not have any record of it. Of course they were sweet and fixed it and gave us a great table inside. So when we go back next week I will call to confirm twice, and maybe arrive a bit early. Just sit back and enjoy the experience. Yum! read more

So I went here for lunch. I ordered the frita. To my surprise the steak was kinda dry and bland. This is definitely not the norm in Cuban cuisine. I had the same dish at Papi's and it was waaaay better. The rice and veggies I had with it was very delicious. The service was just ok, but it wasn't great. If you are used to bold flavors in cuban cooking this isnt the place for (or me). Over all i wasn't displeased but I wasn't pleased either. read more

Went for the first time per the suggestion of my friend. We went at lunch time, and being a weekday I was pleased to hear they had a table for 2 open immediately. Mayra was our server, and she's the reason I'm giving the restaurant a 4 instead of a 5. She wasn't attentive, and completely forgot about our table for the majority of our meal, and she seemed uninterested when she was at the table. Having been a server myself, I'm very understanding but she was the only issue with our visit. The food was great. I had the Ropa Vieja and my friend had a Cuban sandwich. Well I went during lunch. I was but wasn't in a rush. I arrived at 12 no one was really there. I sat and ordered a coke and the stuffed plantains. (So delicious with the hot sauce) .... but I never got my drink. I order my meals (knowingly I haven't got my drink and I wanted to see how long she would be). My wife arrives and the waitress asked her what she would like to drink.... which was water. 3 seconds later she got her water. Yet I'm still waiting for a Coca Cola and I've been sitting for 20 minutes know. Literally I looked at my watch. I received my food (still no drink so I finally decided to say something) "my coke?" She goes and gets it and says "I thought I brought it" but I KNOW u noticed the empty table so I'm not sure HOW she managed to think that. Food was ok. Wayyyy too much garlic in the onions. I and my wife had dinner here last night. Their Mojitos are subpar and wine selection is under whelming. My wife had the red,white and bleu steak salad and the meat was excellent but the rest of the salad was just OK. I had the palomilla steak which had good flavor but was tuff and dry. Finally, a Cuban spot that reminds me of Cuban Pete's in Montclair, NJ. The ambience was warm and inviting. The food was superb! If you decide to head to Mojitos, the last Wednesday of the month they serve unlimited Mojitos as long as you order food. I tend to order the Cuban sand which, with the empanadas sampler. It's super delicious! Make sure to request the special green sauce. It's goes with everything. But expect to wait for a table for an hour. I love it and I'll be back.
