This is the best German Cafe. It's a quaint little place that sells home made jams and honey, filled with the lovely scent of lavender. Their sweets, lavender lemonade, and german potato salad are to die for. The service is also great. Definitely going to be regulars here.

    Very obviously uncooked dough.

We were excited about having a place nearby to get pastries, organic produce, pastries, etc. Unfortunately, big disappointment. We got there, yesterday, right when they opened and wandered around. We bought a few jars of jam, some sauerkraut, a few pastries. The two puff pastries were not fully cooked, I was opening the pastry and turned it over to undo the cling wrap and could see that the dough was uncooked (see pic). Checked the other and, same thing. I went to put away the sauerkraut and it looks like there is mold in there (see pic). So, kinda put off by this first experience. Will definitely not be going back soon. Pastries are out. Pickled stuff is out. Gonna try the jam this morning, fingers crossed.

Never had the pleasure of visiting their farm yet. The key word being "yet". Hope to rectify that someday. I have spotted them at Farmers Markets though. Each time I see them, I stop by their booth to purchase some of their baked goods. My favorites are their Apple Strudel and Apple Puff pastries. Yummy in my tummy!! Try them! I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

We were heading out of town and saw this place on line and decided to go over to check this place out. It's a little out of the way but I promise you, you won't be disappointed at all. They are super friendly and there is plenty of seating and a small outdoor patio. They sell several goodies inside from perserves, to canned goods they actually grow. They even have fresh baked goods also. My husband got pastrami and I got the portabello sandwhich, we got them with fries. We were so pleased, the pastrami is lean and tasty and the portabello mushroom sandwhich was wonderful as well. We have plans on returning again with our family. They are only open on the week end which is perfect for us. You do have to go down a dirt driveway. That didn't bother us but there is two entrances. So if your in the area go give it a try.

Tomato basil soup with turkey harvest. Absolutely delicious!

Prior to our trip out to RB orchard, we stopped by this gem to grab some lunch. After reading all of the glowing reviews, I was so excited to take my hubs here and so happy we did! This place is kinda out of the way and away from shopping centers, which makes this place so quaint. Since we had never been here before, we were using google maps on my phone. Part way there, reception crapped out but thankfully came back in time to let me know where to turn. Because it's a two way road and people like to speed, it's a good idea to turn your signal on early. Once you enter the restaurant, you have the option of sitting wherever you'd like. We chose the high top tables, surrounded by a variety of jams, butter and much more. When we were seated, the wife(I think) brought us a couple menus. Since we got there after the lunch rush hour, our food came out pretty quick. We had just enough time to look around to see what sort of jams and other delicious items to get and when we got back to our table, our food was on it's way! I ordered the turkey harvest, which comes with turkey, caramelized onions and apples, and a side of wasabi mayo. Since I don't like wasabi, I asked for the chipotle mayo. The sandwich was absolutely delicious and so fresh! I was also given an option of soup, salad or mac salad and chose the tomato soup. I couldn't believe at how fresh and tasty the soup was! It reminded me of Panera Breads tomato basil soup, but without the heaviness of the cream. Along with the jams, butter, pickled veggies, they also sell their tomato soup and of course, put the ingredients of everything on the jars. My hubs ordered the pastrami sandwich with a side of mac salad, which was pretty good. It wasn't Zingermann's pastrami sandwich, but overall our meal was pretty good, filling and best of all, fresh! They also sell a bundle of lavender for $2 that is straight from their yard. I wish I would've gotten more, but am so happy they aren't too too far away from us. I can't wait to come back and try some of their other sandwiches!

We have lived in Tehachapi for 10 years and decided to explore our town and came across this amazing place. Staff was friendly and very welcoming. My husband and I ordered sandwiches and fries and they were amazing. I never knew a sandwich could be so good. Ranch was delicious! The outdoor seating area was lovely. It was covered with greenery and so peaceful and perfect. We will definitely be going back.

Tuesday, March 10th, we traveled to Bakersfield to pick up a vehicle I had purchased, and of course had to stop by Kohnen's. My wife and I split a Tuna and Cheddar Panini, and a loaded Turkey (we arrived too late for Sourdough!!). It is difficult to walk away without a mini-pie (try them all, but blackberry is freaking amazing!!). As always, Danelle was there with her typical congeniality and work ethic! We love her!! And I got to tell her about her doppelgänger in a restaurant in Yucaipa!! They do exist!! In summary, eat at Kohnen's!! Say hi to Danelle!

I visited Kohnen's Bakery Tehachapi yesterday with my family, and this was honestly one of the…read moreworst customer service experiences I've ever had. I only purchased two items -- one cream puff and one slice of cheesecake -- but the cashier charged my card THREE times due to repeated mistakes. Here's exactly what happened: 1) My first card (Card A) was charged $11.20. The cashier asked me if I wanted a receipt, and I said yes. Then she told me the receipt didn't come out because the transaction "didn't go through," and asked me to provide my card again. 2) I gave the same card again, and this time she charged $11.69. 3) Then again, she told me that it didn't go through, so I used a different debit card (Card B), which was charged $11.20. While sitting at the table with my family, I immediately checked my bank account and thought I had only been charged twice. I spoke to a staff member at the store and requested a refund for one of the $11.20 charges, which was processed. However, today I realized I had actually been charged three times, meaning there was still another $11.20 that needed to be refunded. So I called the bakery and asked to speak with a manager. I spoke with someone named Danielle. I calmly explained the entire situation and told her I would send all my receipts and bank transaction records by email so they could double-check and confirm everything. She said ok and gave me their email address, but it was very long, and I was concerned about making a mistake while writing it down. So I politely asked if she could text me the email address instead. Her response was extremely rude -- she said, "I'm not required to do that," and told me to just write it down myself if I had a pen and paper. Although I was already uncomfortable with her attitude, I carefully wrote it down and sent the email. However, the email bounced back as invalid, even though I had confirmed the spelling with her multiple times over the phone. When I called again, Danielle answered and said, "Ma'am," in a very dismissive tone, and told me that they had found the three charges and had already processed refunds for both $11.20 transactions. I tried to confirm which card the refund was going to, since I used two different cards, but after putting me on hold for a long time, she read off a card number that was not mine. When I told her that wasn't my card, she insisted those were the only transactions for $11.20 yesterday and told me to "check my bank in a few days" and call back if the refund doesn't show up. And, she didn't apologize for the mistake, even though they charged my cards three times and wasted a significant amount of my time. Even yesterday, when I asked for an apology, I only received one reluctantly after I pointed out that they had made a mistake -- and even then, the response was dismissive, as if I should just accept it because they were "taking care of it." The attitude throughout this entire situation was rude, unprofessional, and extremely frustrating. The cheesecake was very good. But because of this experience, I would never come back. We drove all the way from Los Angeles to Tehachapi with my family, expecting a pleasant visit, but this bakery completely ruined the day. Being charged a total of $34.09 for just two small items due to repeated errors is unacceptable. If your staff cannot properly process payments, they should not be working as cashiers. Situations like this should never happen. What's even worse is that after making multiple mistakes, there was not a single sincere apology -- only attitude, dismissiveness, and instructions for me to keep checking my bank and call back again. My time is valuable. This entire situation could have been avoided if things were handled properly from the beginning. This was an extremely unpleasant experience, and I am very disappointed. Cf) For reference, the other $16.05 receipt is for bread that my brother purchased.

They make pies (of course) as well as some other foods. Because I'm gluten-free and dairy-free, this limits me... but I'm SO happy they always have a safe pie I can buy. (And I have never had a gluten reaction to their GF items.) Their gluten-free dairy-free apple pie has been a bit bland for me. So I recently opted for their berry pie and WOW it did not disappoint! The berry pie was nice and flavorful!!! I bake as suggested by doing an egg wash on top, and that gives the top crust a really nice texture. I've also had their GF breads (because they sometimes have GF ones that are also dairy-free) and they are super yummy. The prices are a bit high, so I don't splurge too often. But I'm grateful there is safe pie for me when I really want it.

With all my health things going on the two surgeries, the cancer, all I could think of was the crispy chicken strips. I miss them in the last couple months. It sounds silly, but couldn't wait to get them, so I called and I spoke to Cherie. I think she may be the manager of that department. I told her the situation probably more than she needed to know, but I was telling her I wanted to order them so they'd be fresh when my daughter picked them up. Cherie had nothing but the most wonderful, comforting words that she could say to me. She honestly made me feel like she really cared. When my daughter picked up the chicken strips for me, there was the sweetest note written on the bag. This is a perfect example of going above and beyond and making customers feel cared about. I admit I'm very emotional at this time in my life, and I read that and started crying. What may have seem like a small gesture on her part actually was huge in my world. I can't wait until I can drive again and I am healed so I can personally go in and thank her. I did call her, and I also called corporate office to tell them about the note and how she made me feel.
