The next day, I found out the exact same box could be purchased elsewhere for about $26. I understand stores need to make a profit, and I would have understood a reasonable markup, maybe $35 or so. But charging $80 for a kids' card box feels excessive, especially when young children and parents who are new to the hobby may not know the normal retail price. I later learned that scalping is a big issue with these cards, and that some shops buy from scalpers and resell at much higher prices. That may be common in the hobby, but as a parent, it does not feel right when kids are involved. I ended up giving my son his $80 back and taking the loss myself because I did not want his birthday money to be wasted that way. He no longer wants to go back to the shop, and honestly, I understand why. The people we met at regular stores like Vons and Albertsons were actually kinder and more helpful about cards than this card shop was. I wish places that sell products aimed at kids would be more reasonable with pricing instead of making parents feel like they have to be scalped just to let their child enjoy the hobby. This has become a Man Child obsession, and he and I don't want to be part of it. I will not be returning.

They have a ton of sports cards, limited on pokemon but if you ask him to get you a specific pack, he will! At least he will try. The owners are very kind, friendly, easy to talk to, and very knowledgeable of what you are looking for. If his parents can't help u they will surely call up their son so make sure they can help u accordingly!

Instead of just answering, the employee immediately got irritated and told me I had "called five seconds ago." The problem is, I have never called this store in my life, and I hadn't made a phone call in several hours. When I tried to explain that, he was dismissive and acted like I was bothering him just for asking a basic inventory question. What made the interaction even stranger was how certain he was that I was supposedly the same person who had just called. It honestly made me wonder whether he was confusing me with another Asian customer, which felt pretty insulting. I call card shops regularly looking for Pokémon and One Piece products, and I've never had someone be this unnecessarily rude over such a simple question. The whole interaction was obnoxious and completely turned me off from ever visiting the store. If answering a quick inventory question is that much of an inconvenience, I'll happily spend my money somewhere else. Terrible first impression.

I'll explain why. A concern of mine is being a woman in a predominantly male hobby. I've recently gotten back into Pokemon and was hoping to find a nice, welcoming card shop locally. Saw this place on social media and decided to give it a try. To the shop's credit, the man at the register was nice to me and I felt welcomed. When I asked if they do trades, the man told me they do if it's anything worth more than $1. Cool, my cards are worth more than that! However, he then passed me over to an older gentleman to inspect my cards. This gentleman was talking to a male customer and had been for some time. I didn't want to disturb, so I stood there quietly waiting my turn. Soon enough, the older gentleman took maybe two or three seconds to eye my cards over. Didn't price check. Just told me they aren't interested and dismissed me pretty bluntly. He immediately continued talking with the male customer he'd previously been chatting with. It felt like he was bothered by me being there. In turn, I felt like I was a waste of space in the shop. I'm okay being rejected, but the way I was talked to/handled made me feel unwelcomed. I finished my purchase and promptly left, feeling a little icky about my experience. I'd wanted to make this my go-to shop, but I don't know if I feel comfortable going back. I don't expect special treatment as a woman, but I would at least like basic decency. I also don't post this review lightly. I just want to give a heads up to other women thinking of checking out the shop, especially if you're going alone or with other women. I think that maybe if I was with a man or even a man myself, the older gentleman would've treated me a little better. I was a new customer,…read more However, today I received poor customer service from Tom. I accidentally payed for the same card sleeves on two separate transactions and went in to get a refund for the accidental second purchase. The first purchase of the item without an account and the second time purchasing the same item without an account. Tom demanded the time of purchase but I was not given a receipt during the first time purchasing the item and was only given a receipt the second time purchasing. After stating an estimate of the time of purchase, finally receiving my refund for the accidental second purchase, Tom refused to give me my item back stating it was a return, which it was not. Luckily another store associate from whom I purchased it from stepped in and stated I had accidentally purchased it twice based on proof from my banking statements. It was not stated but I could sense I was being accused of trying to scam or steal by Tom, which I was most definitely not, with me stating to look at the cameras. I had simply made a mistake in purchasing the same item twice but Tom had made the interaction extremely diffi As a new customer I was once excited to find a new card shop near my school. However, after facing hostility from the "boss", I will no longer be coming back. I had worked customer service for many years and the way I was treated is not how you treat a brand new customer. We chatted with Kyle the owner who has intimate knowledge of 80% of the games in the store, having played them at least once. My husband bought the newest version of Horrified which is a series of cooperative games in which you are vanquishing monsters and saving villagers, this one is Dungeons and Dragons themed. Meanwhile, I talked with Andrew, a game enthusiast who had just purchased a huge game box with cards and dragon figures and was learning how to play it. Tuesdays are game nights there for people looking to play board games with a group. There are several tables for that purpose, and so many games for single players, duos, and larger groups. Super fun store!

Sure, it was pretty far away (Glendale) from Riverside, but I always enjoyed the trek and good times. Fortunately, Kyle, opened the Game Nights Cafe about 1.5 years ago as of this writing (01/01/2025), and the two-level shop and gamespace provides games to purchase, an impressive library of games to play in-house, and necessary hobby materials, such as Citadel paint, brushes, tools, and even a nifty airbrush set for about $70. After two visits here I'm Reviewing the shop, setting, atmosphere, and special New Year's Eve event. First, my long-time gaming buddy happened upon the store while antique shopping across the street. While Gameology in Upland has been our go-to, the initial appeal was the later hours of operation, especially on Sundays, the day we typically line up. There's a game cover fee, a reasonable $6 per player and good for the entire day. Otherwise, as Kyle mentioned to me, people would stay all day and not even purchase anything. Purchases, however, do offset the cover charge. The basement is where the bright track lights make the full-lenghth space inviting. Many hundreds of games line one wall. All are available for anyone wanting to play. And a significant number of tables and comfortable chairs are another draw. There's also a sizeable space upstairs adjacent to the retail area for games. Kyle invited us to come back for New Year's Eve for food, beverages, and a generous playtime that surpassed 2am. For $40 I was down, especially when I saw how much food was provided. A fullscale Middle Eastern feast, as well as charcuterie, sides, and desserts. Wow! The crowd was also fun and my group quickly befriended another and we played lots of fun games that could support 6 players, including Heat, Acquire, and Inca Gold. All three were in the extensive library previously referenced. In short, they host many events for Magic the Gathering (MTG), Dungeons and Dragons, open play nights, and hopefully more NYE celebrations. Finally, they also have a lot of games and things marked down for quick sales, so consider browsing. Not far away is the Glass House, and somewhere close by is Zoink Records.
