When I arrived at the facility it was closed but I had no problem accessing my storage unit. It could not possibly have been any easier to load my items (backed the UHaul right up to a garage, loaded everything onto the provided carts, fit all of my belongings in the elevator in one trip, and easily loaded into the storage room). This place is great! My only concern is that renters can access the facility after hours, so the security of my belongings is dependent on trusting the other renters. If someone else comes in after hours and doesn't properly lock up (doesn't lock the garage, for instance), the security of everyone's belongings is compromised. I wish there was a way to address this because it is a bit concerning (perhaps auto-locking garages that close and lock after a set amount of time?). Aside from that, everything was great! I've never seen anyone push a broom or any kind of cleaning here here... ever. As a matter of fact I've seen the same piece of broken glass inside the building for 7 months. Nobody in the office seems to care about the facility at all. B. It takes a miracle for anything to get fixed. The door to building E has been broken for three years and the staff just ignores it, even when it was brought to their attention. It's a problem when you have to chase wildlife out of the building. C. They allow homeless people to rent there. I've been asked for money and rides more than once. In November of 2018 I was assaulted by a homeless man when he tried to rob me. I didn't bother telling the staff because they simply don't care. D. The staff take no responsibility for when they make mistakes. Due to a payment screw-up (that was my fault) they placed an exterior lock on my unity. However when the payment issue was resolved they neglected to remove the lock. So the following day when I went to open the unit to get the necessary equipment for work I couldn't in. As a result I ended up losing over $1500 in business. When I approached the manager about the issue he basically told me that it "was not his problem". E. The manager is openly hostile. He has threatened me on at least three occasions and his attitude toward tenants is a combination of apathy and hostility. Do yourself a favor and don't rent from American Self Storage.

Upon arriving at my new location, one backed up the truck while the other two didn't bother spotting him - the driver backed into my brick pillar breaking bricks and the light. They literally brought out some sort of epoxy and said they could fix it! I called the police who wrote up a crash report. I accepted the company's offer to take money off the cost of the move because I had no confidence that their insurance company would promptly pay - I feared I wouldn't end up with anything but a lot more frustration. 3. At the end of the move, I realized they had forgotten to move an elliptical machine that was in the basement - when I brought it to their attention, they said nothing and just left. 4. At my old house they left the garage doors open and lights on - my wife didn't want to have to drive back to the house but was worried they might have done something like this - totally irresponsible! 5. Without asking my permission, they borrowed my hand dolly. After they left, I found it in the backyard with a wheel broken off. (I sent the company a picture of it.) This is absolutely not acceptable. 6. They left packing material all over the house - when I asked about them taking it with them they said that isn't something they do. 7. They did not remove their shoes or put on "booties" even though it was raining out and caused significant scuff marks on my hard wood floor - which I also took a picture of. On June 23rd, I wrote an email to the customer service agent and a manager with whom I had been speaking. No reply. I followed-up with another email on June 24th and received a phone call saying that they would address my issues by the following day. It has now been over a month and I still have heard nothing. All of this is beyond outrageous! As a small business owner, I completely understand when "stuff happens" but when it does you do everything you can to "make it right" - not ignore the customer! Do not use this company!!!

Past 4 years a situation has been in progress and getting worse by the day. When Andrea was manager the place was run fantastic! But they transferred her to their Ocean storage place.(I hear she just resigned-hmmm, cant imagine why) About the same time Middletown began to have problems. The owner has allowed a window treatment company, whose name I will not mention, to utilize the first building, to the point of taking it over. They have many units, they work on building valances, windows whatever using electric saws, sawdust all over the place, noise, scraping of the flooring bringing large items in and out, actually using the storage sheds as work rooms, plugged into the building's electric. It has become a total mess in this building. Now they have a trailer workstation parked there, usually a van and two large SUVs or their company truck. You cant get to the lift to load and unload your items as there is no parking area left. I personally have three storage units and it has pissed me off that when I complained they said the owner has given them permission to do this. Seriously! Its not like there are a lot of empty storage units so this extra business can compensate for loss of income. You cant find a unit in there, usually need to be on a waiting list. The owner should redirect his priorities. The buildings used to be painted regularly, never had broken elevators, the floors were always sparkling, the temperature controlled units were always kept at good temps. Now, in summer they are too hot and in winter, too cool. The floors have not been painted in years and overall, it looks like a declining business. The question I have is how can the township permit a working business to exist in a storage unit facility? We have a list of instructions and items which we can not have in our units. But it is ok to have a workshop in here, use electric power tools, make noise, spew sawdust all over which is carried up the stairs and on the elevators into people's units as they walk thru it? I have stopped referring my clients as I am embarrassed to do so. If the situation does not change, I will start looking for three or four units with a new company. I think the owner has gotten too greedy.
