Immediately got scheduled first thing in the morning (no consultation fee!) and he was honest about the difference in pricing estimates if it wasn't a quick fix. Once he took a look at our door, Steve suggested taking the lock back to his workshop to see if they could fix it in house. He came back a couple hours later with his team member Allen and when they placed everything back in the door, the lock worked! They apparently had to rewire some springs and fix a couple broken things inside the lock. Grateful they were able to save us time and money so we didn't have to purchase new parts! In terms of installing the locks, he did a decent job. Although he said it would take him an hour, and it took 3 hours. Would have given one star, but I suppose all the doors actually lock so the job wasn't completely effed, just far more expensive than expected. If you use these people, get cost in writing beforehand. I learned my lesson.

After walking my dog in the morning (a few days ago), I realized I didn't have my keys... and my…read morehusband wasn't coming back for hours... and our building manager didn't have a spare key... and our management/owners didn't care about me being locked out. Awesome way to start a morning, BTW. Thankfully I had my phone and was able to do a quick Yelp search and found Secure LA. The reviews don't really talk about them fixing lock outs, but I figured I'd try and gave them a call. It was around 8am and I was afraid no one would answer (you know, business hours and all) but thankfully, Nick did! He said he could be there in about an hour (~9:15) and that it would be $75. I wasn't thrilled about the wait or the cost, but honestly, what else could I do? I'm glad I called Nick, though, because he showed up right on time (after calling to tell me he was on his way, then that he was outside) and got right to work. He didn't have his full lock-picking kit on him, so another guy Ernesto joined shortly after. Nick wasn't able to pick the lock initially (using his mini-set of tools) but then neither was Ernesto, even with more tools. After traditional lock picking didn't work, they then tried a few other things... something with a piece of paper (?) along the door crevice... then banging a key into the key hole trying to get it to move... I'm not exactly sure what they were doing, but they tried a lot of things for ~30 minutes and at that point, Nick said they had to just take off the door knob entirely and would replace it for $25. NOTE: Nick said that usually they can pick most doors within 5-10 minutes... but something about my lock made it really different and difficult. I was a little disappointed that they weren't able to pick my lock (so you know, I could eat breakfast, feed my dog, go to work...) but at the same time, strangely relieved to know the lock was so secure. I actually needed a few key copies anyway, so they did that in their van while Nick "rang me up" (wrote an invoice and took my check). Total cost: $110 for the lock out, new door knob, and 4 key copies. More than I had expected to spend that morning (considering I shouldn't have forgotten my key and gotten locked out in the first place) but all things considered, really friendly service, quick to come to my rescue, and they got the job done and I was on my way to work by around 10:15. Lesson #1: Don't get locked out. Lesson #2: If you do get locked out, call Nick.

I asked for a refund of at least the blank key I had brought in and he said there was nothing he could do because it didn't originate from their store. A warning at the beginning when I asked him to cut my key would have been nice but instead all he said is that those keys cost $35 to cut (which is high) but I was there so I agreed only to be disappointed in the end. Bad customer service. I don't recommend this place if you need a high-security car key cut.
