If you haven't tried Modern Plate do yourself a favor and add it to the bucket list. This afternoon we shared a couple appetizers with a cocktail. Bacon wrapped dates on a bed of whipped goat cheese and pork belly bites on a bed of whipped yams accompanied with some squash cubes were both delicious. The T n T old fashioned was prepared with Buffalo Trace a very tasty version made by Diana who was very attentive to our needs and an excellent mixologist. Jason runs a tight ship and Aran the chef prepares great dishes, on earlier visits we sampled several entrees which were all excellent. Give the place a try you won't be disappointed. read more

Out of 5 stars: Overall - 4 stars; the ingredients are high-quality, the service is great, and you can tell people care. Because modern plate is a brand new restaurant, there are things they're still working out with the new staff, and the system. If your party has mobility issues, be aware, the bathrooms are downstairs and they have to be able to use stairs to get there. They were very busy the night we attended and so some of our meal wasn't timely or prepared perfectly. I would never deter anyone from going based on that. Modern plate is a very welcome addition to Elmhurst dining! We will 100% go back... And loved the surprise that there was a show that night, which we also took full advantage of. Definitely go and definitely make reservations in advance. Burrata toast - 3.5 stars; prosciutto is stringy, but it had a good flavor. Would've liked a little more burrata and tomato. Try to bite this, but the prosciutto made it very difficult. Still high quality ingredients. Wouldn't order on a first date or in mixed company. If you do definitely use your fork and knife. Pan fried walleye - 3 stars; the waitress said everyone said that this is cooked perfectly. The bar was set high and so of course it was ordered. Unfortunately, this dish came in half cooked perfectly and the other half undercooked leaving a very fishy flavor in the half of the fish. The part that was cooked perfectly was amazing and very tasty. The carrots were the star on the plate. I almost wish I had more carrots rather than the undercooked fishy side of the walleye. The rice was very good too and like that they charred the lemon. It was too bad they just didn't leave the walleye on long enough. Tomahawk pork chop - 4.5 stars; this should be one of their featured recommended plates. It was the star of the night! On the menu, anything shaded is what the restaurant recommends, and we were surprised to see that the tomahawk pork chop was not among those. It was so tasty and flavorful. Really enjoyed it all the way around. The only hesitation is we asked for it not to be pink and the waitress put it in as medium well. However, it was still had pink. If I'm being picky, there was only one purple potato, and all the others were basic fingerling. Felt a little odd to have one purple potato. Also, the brussels sprouts were a bit oily, but not too bad. Loved the cook! Overall was a fantastic entrée! We will order it again! Affogato - 3 stars; my husband is from Louisiana, and so he struggles to find a good beignet in Illinois. This was ordered because we thought it was a beignet which is supposed to be a pillowy fluffy fried dough. This is not a beignet. This is a donut. It is a denser dough with no pillowy texture. There was no fluffiness like a beignet has. This definitely is not an optimal shareable dessert. It comes with a glass of espresso which they pour at the table. We asked how they recommended we eat this. There was a cup of vanilla ice cream, which he then poured into the espresso and recommended dipping our dough in the espresso with the ice cream and drinking the espresso. The donut was still warm and so that was very enjoyable but our biggest gripe is the mislabeling. Again this is not a beignet, but 3 very small donuts of inconsistent size. White Cosmo - 4 stars; if you like martinis, and a very light citrus flavor, this is the martini for you! Very happy with the martini overall, and it was very tasty. It was not over the top sweet, and that was very much appreciated. Also appreciated that they had no sugar rim. The martini was shaken well with excellent small chips of ice and the flavor was good. Definitely will order again! Noon whistle Bruski - beer 4 stars, service 3 stars; ordered 2 of the same beers for dinner. The first one came timely and no complaints. Finished it by the end of appetizer. The second one took 10 to 15 minutes and by that time we were already far into eating the entree. The waitress kept coming by and saying "your drink is coming..." and it really never did. Someone from the bar finally delivered it and it was nice that she brought the can and said there's still a little bit left. But if you look at the picture, and if you were a beer snob, then you know a big head is a big no-no. Clearly they were busy and overwhelmed and we appreciated that they brought the can for the rest. But it was clear the beer fell to the wayside. Almost wish the waitress would stop coming and saying the beer is coming and just saved herself time, grabbed it, and brought it over. Entertainment - 5 stars; we were pleasantly surprised to find out that since we had dinner there, you were given free admission to the show at Stage 119. We took advantage. Our dinner reservation was for 6:15 PM. We finished appetizers, drinks, dinner, dessert by 7:30 PM. We brought our dinner receipt and was given free entry to Stage 119 in the back of the restaurant. I was really happy with my visit here. the menu is simple but executed beautifully. The portions are large enough to split. We ordered an entree - chicken milanese - and a wedge salad. Plenty of food and all of it delicious. I've never had a really juicy pounded piece of white meat that is also so damn crispy. Like that's hard to pull off and really easy to completely destroy. And when you take a classic wedge but replace the bacon with pork belly, boy oh boy. That's some yum right there. Our server was super attentive but not overly so. And the owner stopped by just to see how we were doing. It's a bright space and lively. Of all the places in Elmhurst (which, btw, can be a pain to navigate in and out of, and parking is terrible), I would definitely come back to Modern Plate. For sure. read more

This is a great place for a group or a date night ! We went on a Sunday and made a reservation but certainly didn't need to . The parking is on the street so be prepared for that . The menu had a great variety. We got the ricotta appetizer and it might have been the best part ! So flavorful and fresh . We got two entrees the short rib risotto . It was delish! The ribs had an amazing flavoring and the risotto was done to perfection . We also got the roasted chicken . The crisp on the chicken was AMAZING! While this is a very cute place, the decor is very nice. The food was something of a disappointment. The salmon toast was good. However, the bread was too thick for actual salmon toast. We had the avocado flatbread, which was tasty, but the arugula was a little over the top too much on it And the side salad. I'm not a fan of spring mix although the vegetables were fresh inside of it, it is quite loud and the weight staff was friendly and always checking in on us to make sure we had what we needed. While it was OK we just eat dinner there because of the band that was playing later on. I doubt we'll be back. read more

I was with a group of 4 who had dinner here at 6PM on Saturday of the Memorial Day weekend. When we got to the retsaurant, it was basically empty - just a few tables taken. Despite it being empty, they sat our group in the corner where the kitchen help come in and out. It was very busy. We ended up moving to another table. We all ordered drinks - a Manhattan, a vodka martini, a Prosecco and a lemon drop martini. The Manhattan came out timely by itself. While the others waited about 10 minutes for our drinks, the waitress came a couple of times to our table asking if we wished to order appetizers. We said we'd wait for our drinks. Our entrees were all OK. Nothing special. Prices were reasonable for today's dining scene. I'd give this restaurant a 3 1/2 to 4 stars. I'd go back but also look for other places to eat in Elmhurst. It's listing on Yelp as the first choice of Elmhurst restaurants seems like a stretch. read more

OK, Modern Plate! Went here on a double date last night and had a wonderful experience. Our food (shared apps: salmon toast, bacon wrapped dates, baked feta; I got the Chicken Milanese for my entree) was very good. Most notable, however, was the delightfully attentive service: our server, Joe, was fantastic - fun, funny, and upbeat. I hadn't been seated for more than a minute before he popped by our table to see if I wanted him to grab me a drink while I waited for my husband and friends to park. (I sure did ;)) He was back in a flash every time we'd asked for something and consistently reassured us that we should take all the time in the world as we decided what to order to eat, and whether we wanted dessert. We were comfortable from start to finish. I didn't catch the manager's name (but remember him stating he was a "Lincoln dad") - he was lovely, as well; checked on us multiple times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and was genuinely appreciative of our decision to dine there. This location was occupied by several failed concepts before Modern Plate arrived and after the great time we had last night, I'm rooting for this place SO hard. So first off I have to give kiddos to our waitress Amy because she definitely set the tone for our first time dining here. Her whole vibe was amazing! She explained the menu and gave us some insight on how Chef Iran created it himself. Her recommendations were spot on with the flavor profiles we told her we typically enjoy. We started with the YiaYias wings which were delicious. The sauce is added right before they come out to the table which allows the wings to maintain their crispy texture and that's a huge plus. The tzatziki sauce is home made and does not disappoint. For the entrees we ordered the Garlic Shrimp pasta and the tomahawk pork chop. The pasta was very very good, perfect consistency and a very refreshing sauce that is also from scratch. The shrimp were nice and tender and you could taste that they are fresh not frozen. I ordered the pork chop medium and it was very juicy and tender. I did substitute the roasted veggies for the Brussel sprout side they offer and they were delicious. For dessert we had the Limoncello Tiramisu and it was divine. It's made from scratch and has this delightful top layer. Overall it was a great experience and we will most certainly be back. We were lucky enough to meet with Chef Iran before we left and he is so sweet. It's rare that you meet a chef who genuinely cares about you enjoying your meal entirely. read more
