If you're looking for a decent, basic mani or pedi this is a pretty good place. You do get what you pay for, so the trade off for inexpensive pricing is no frills, no extras and you're expected to bring some of your own tools. They'll sell you a kit for 5 bucks that you need to bring with you each time. I miss the lotion massages that finish up nail services at more spendy salons the most! Also a warning about trying to make an appointment. They honestly do not understand the whole concept of an appointment. They'll tell you they do, but if someone walks in 5 minutes before your appointment, they'll take them and you WILL wait even if you arrived at the scheduled time. This has happened to me twice. So don't bother making an appointment and frustrating yourself. I live very close by so it's convenient. It wouldn't be worth a special trip if you don't live or work in the area. There is probably a similar salon closer to where you live. read more

I've been going here for about 15 years. The last time I went in for a wax I noticed she wasn't using a new stick in the wax. Annie just put the contaminated stick back in the wax for more. I said wait, your suppose to use a new stick each time. Annie said, "do you know how many sticks I'd go through if I did that, thousands". Well miss Annie, when one of your clients end up in the hospital with an infection and you have to fork out $45,000 in medical bills you'll think twice about using proper sanitary practices. This nail place is clean and I walked in on a Tuesday with my sister and they took me in for a shellac manicure and my sister got a full new set with gel and designs. I believe the guys name was Johnny? He did a great job and very friendly. My suggestion would be to not have high expectations with the designs the techs can do because we asked for cherry blossoms and got charged for it and the design looked nothing like it lol reality vs expectations, but overall ok nail salon. $67? Little pricey I think. read more

We called ahead and made an appointment, and when we showed up they were very busy but seated us at are scheduled time. Initially I thought it was a decent place to get in so quickly. But I was wrong... The massage didn't last as long I am use to. Five days later I end up in excruciating pain in my right big toe. Red and swollen!! I went to urgent care here in Salem with an infection!! I'm on antibiotics for ten days! Cant walk or put pressure on my foot! I definitely wouldn't recommend this! read more

My mom has been going here for years and is a loyal customer. I go to a salon across town but wanted to spend time with my mom with side by side pedicures and manicures. Somehow they overbooked and made us choose which one of the services we wanted. Yet proceeded to take appointments by phone adjacent to our appointments. My mom only ended up being able to get her pedicure done and i didn't get any services because they didn't have time. It is rude to take more appointments when you can't service people who are in the salon. I did not make a big deal so I wouldn't upset my mom. I will never go here again. They were rude and offered no apology or ask if we could reschedule. read more

They recently moved to the corner of state street and 17th and the space is much more nicer. I think they do a quality job for a good price. I wish I could give absolutely NO STARS. Do not go here at all ever! Annie is the absolute worst nail technician i have ever been to. I didn't like the way she did my nails once before and when I was stuck in her chair again I was very disappointed to begin with but gave no grief. As I sat there discussing the price and what exactly it was I wanted, she tried telling me that the removal of my nails would be 10$ extra, and to get the length I wanted (the STANDARD tip length, no longer) that it would be yet another 10$ added to the overall price of 35$! She was trying to charge me double the price of what it was on the board. Then when I asked a question about it, she literally told me, "then go somewhere else" so that is exactly what I did. She let me leave the salon with nails like these and I will NEVER go here again. So disrespectful and rude. read more

I had an appointment for a gel manicure and they were also able to squeeze me in for an unscheduled pedicure. I'll start of with the pedicure since it was the better of the two experiences. They have massage chairs you can use and the pedicure was decent and got the job done (not the best experience but you get what you pay for). She mostly just filed them, gave me a scrub and painted them. Nothing to really complain about. The manicure on the other hand... I have never had a worse experience. The lady who was giving me my manicure rushed the entire time, she was careless and it really showed. She didn't even bother to ask what shape I wanted them filed. I had to ask her to file them rounded. Not only that but my gel nails are already starting to peel on some fingers because she went over the edges and got my skin. My cuticles have somehow managed to look worse than when I first came in. The weirdest part about my gel nails is that the color CHANGED. I had picked a pale pink color with a chunky gold glitter to go over them. Now they are a tan/brown color. I called the place telling them what happened and she basically told me that happens with lighter colors and asked me if I dyed my hair. I told her I didn't use any lotions, dye or even chemicals. She just said that happens a lot and they get stained and told me I can get a color change for $10. I've gotten light colors before and I have never had an issue with them and you would think that if it happens a lot she would have warned me that it would change colors. If I had wanted brown nails, I would have picked a brown color to begin with. I wouldn't have minded the bad service if the job was well done but I got neither so sadly I just wasted $60. The only reason this gets two stars and not one is that my pedicure turned out ok. read more

So I did go back at 5 pm as I was told but the woman then told me I should have made an appointment and turned me away. She was extremely rude and unprofessional in the manner in which she spoke to me. I will never go back! read more

went in for an acrylic set and a pedicure with my mother and little sister to have a girls day with them for my birthday. we were hoping to all get our toes done together but when we discovered that wasn't possible it was no big deal. I tried to communicate to my mother and sister that i would need to do my nails while they were getting their toes done, as i was doing so, one of the nail techs, a man, snapped at me to sit, like a dog. The whole time i was getting my nails done the lady doing my nails either got up and walked away or got onto her phone, did not interact with me hardly at all. She rushed through everything and it definitely shows. the man who snapped at me switched with the lady doing my nails to paint them and he was extremely rough, holding and twisting my finger unnecessarily rough. I am very disappointed in the way my nails look. They looked flared at the end and uneven in their thickness and all around, bad. My predicure however was amazing and the lady that did that was very sweet. I really wish i could say i had a better experience.... read more

They could even make my nails evem i had to re tell them like 4 times that they were not filed correctly. I love going to Modern Nails. I tell all of my friends about them! Their prices can't be beat anywhere, and the quality is always wonderful. I go in every few weeks for my nails, and monthly for my feet. The service is very family oriented, and everyone who works there is sweet. Annie is super personable, and super quick if you are ever in a hurry, but she never cuts corners. Tom is a magician at sculpting nails. I am proud to be a loyal customer. :) read more
