I just read a post from this last winter that is similar to my experience. The shop was extremely dirty, parts on the floor, rude manager and didn't give me the time of day. I spent over $6000 with them and i felt like I was dong them a favor. What is absolutely histarical, is there were 2 people in front of me when I first arrived yelling at the shop manager. They screwed up 2 cars. One wouldn't even run it was so badly tuned. I don't know why they bought a Dyno Jet. They can't tune worth crap. I came here because of Speed Inc being worse. Great parts prices, but they sucker you in and destroy your car in record time. I am going to Finish LIne. They have been around forever and seem to have a great staff on board now. Can't wait to see their Open House. Its been awhile since I have been to one of there events. I know all the clubs and race performance guys and gals are going there now. Modern Muscle, you need to get your act together. I won't come back and the two guys before me won't either. I can only imagine you alienated more customers after we all left. I have watched Modern Muscle for several years from their time in Oswego to their new home in Plainfield. I have always been impressed with their quality and willingness to back their workmanship. Another one I wish I could give zero stars but it's not an option. I took my vehicle to Modern Muscle to have it dyno tuned. First off, everyone seemed very rude like I was wasting their time. The guy dyno tuning my car had zero personality and made me feel very uncomfortable. I asked him some basic questions about the tuning and he either scowled and just nodded his head yes or no, or just ignored my question completely. I was really put off by this. I'm paying lots of money for a service and was treated like I was bothering them or they didn't want my business. I don't know the reason for it. Maybe it's because I did all of the engine upgrades and bought my parts elsewhere. I just needed them to tune it as I don't have the equipment for that. While they are tuning my car, I see wires draped across my fender and door. My car is a dark blue color and I keep it looking better than new. I was a little worried about it and expressed my concern again to the guy dyno tuning my car. His response was "it's fine". So after the tune is finished I get my car back with little to no explanation on what exactly needed to be adjusted. They probably assume I am too dumb to comprehend the work they are doing even though I completely rebuilt the engine myself. I ask them how much horsepower and torque it made and the guy was like "uhh I think something like blah blah". He sounded like he didn't know, wasn't paying attention, or didn't care. They didn't give me a dyno sheet that most shops do after a vehicle is tuned. So I get in my car and go home. Driving home, I notice greasy finger prints everywhere inside the cars interior. I'm a little iritated at this point. After getting home, upon closer inspection, I notice more greasy fingerprints all over the hood and door. And what's even worse, there are scratches from the wires they draped accross the fender and door. THIS IS WHAT I VOICED MY CONCERN ABOUT AND THEY TELL ME IT WAS OK. So I take my car back there to show them the mess they made out of my basically mint condition car. Upon arriving there is another guy yelling and screaming at them about something they did to his car. I stand around for about 20 minutes waiting for someone to talk to and basically get ignored so I leave. What's a real shame is that high performance shops like Modern Muscle doesn't understand the type of client and vehicles they are working on. They are doing specialty work to high performance cars and to many people, these cars are their passion. Their pride and joy. The kids at Jiffy Lube take better care of a car without getting it all dirty and scratched up. With other speed shops out there competing against them like Speed Inc, Finish Line Performance, Straightline Performance, etc they have to be on their A game and sadly they are not. I'll be looking at one of their competitors next time when I need work done and I'll never recommend Modern Muscle to anybody. read more

Brought my car back 4 times for issues directly related to poor work done to my vehicle by modern musle, first day took care home and upon filling up gas tank fuel poured of of the top of the tank from them not properly sealing after installing new fuel pump, then 2 times for car running like crap after their "tune" , then got engine trouble light so I took it to advance auto to be scanned and again was due to improperly tuned by them so took it back..still ran like crap so took it to another shop. Upon looking at build sheet modern muscle installed the wrong fuel pump on my car, called tre performance who makes the pump and they confirmed it. Went to talk to brad and he was rude and unhelpful saying Justin will call me next week..Justin gave me a bunch of bs and is unwilling to repair their mistake..DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF ANF LIED TO,..will be filing with the better business Bureau read more

I've been a customer of Justin and Modern Muscle since the opening in 2007. I have a Chrysler 300C and they've installed headers, cat back, custom cam, Pedders suspension, brakes, supercharger along with the tunes. I also replaced the stock wheels and tires with one set of "summer" Nitto performance tires with 22' wheels and a second set of Pirelli snow tires with 20' wheels as this is my daily driver. When I was entertaining the tire/wheel packages, Justin was so helpful in consulting with me on the best visual and performance combos and I'm still thrilled with what he recommended. I get compliments all the time. I've been more than satisfied, even thrilled with MM's work. Car guys love their cars and it's so important to have confidence and a relationship with a shop to transform our machines into what we want. Box checked. A few things that demonstrate MM going the extra mile for me are: - I have limited space to store the tire/wheel set not being used for that season so Justin agreed store them in his shop at a very reasonable charge. Every change of season, he switches the packages out for me. - Last summer, I somehow snagged and dragged a Hefty garbage bag under the car. It stuck to the headers/exhaust, melted and stunk to high heaven. I brought it in and asked Justin if he'd take a look and he did. Sure enough, black plastic was melted all over so he spend 45 minutes with a blowtorch and grinder to get it all off. He didn't have to do that. - The red powder coating on one of my Pedders rear springs was deteriorating and discoloring. Justin worked with Pedders to replace not only the one going bad under warranty, but the other side as well. I suppose he could have just referred me to Pedders. There are those goofballs on forums and review sights who think they know everything about all that goes into performance mods and are hyper critical of others to demonstrate their own "expertise". This stuff can get very complicated. Like anything else, I rely on professionals I trust who know their craft to do what they do and I'm glad I found MM when they opened. Back then, I knew they were new and I had some hesitation as a result but I saw a passion and commitment to quality that meant more to me than an extensive history. Justin continues to amaze me with his knowledge and uncanny instincts. His staff of Brad, Dan and Carlos are just great guys, love their craft and have very high standards, like me. Being part of the MM family, I've enjoyed seeing these guys build record breaking 1/4 mile cars and win awards at SEMA, the largest car show in the country. MM has a very faithful and loyal customer base I'm proud to be part of and my car proudly displays MM stickers and license plate frames. On a quiet Saturday morning I parked there along with another family (in their own car) to go to a different nearby business. There were absolutely NO indications (signs, warnings) that one couldn't park there and there was about 10 of 12 spots open there. Well within less than an hour, my friends car was towed, despite there were no clearly visible warnings to people. Instead of politely leaving a note, or going to ask us to move our cars, they cost my friend over $300 for an honest mistake. The car that was towed was in a virtually open parking lot - the person at Muscle just wanted to be unkind. I truly would understand if the lot was clearly marked that you can't park there, but it wasn't. I parked there too but was just lucky that they didn't tow my car yet when I left not even 45 minutes later. When I called to ask about what had happened, the person was extremely rude and felt no concern the the family that was then stranded in a pretty remote area. In cold February! Because of how very rude the person was regarding this incident, I would recommend taking business elsewhere. They clearly are just out for taking people's money and have no concern for what they do to others. Again, I cannot emphasize that there were NO SIGNS saying you can't park there but they tow cars. Pretty ridiculous - I'm guessing that maybe they are in business with the towing company?! read more

The staff and mechanics are top notch, professional, provide open communication with the customer and stand behind their work. I first came to Modern Muscle after have numerous disastrous mechanical work on my 1968 corvette big block. What impressed me about Modern Muscle was their holistic approach to a performance problem or upgrade. They first did a base line dyno run on the car and then looked the car over to let me know what work needed to be done and how much it would cost. They always gave me options when possible and what to prioritize. They did a great job of performing all the needed work and setting up my engine to perform great. I have since sold the 1968 corvette and purchased a 2013 z06 convertible. Based on my experience with Modern Muscle I talked to Brad about my performance upgrade options and just has them install a Pro Charger supercharger. They did an excellent job for the exact amount they quoted me. The real test of a great shop is how they work with you after the installation. It turns out that there was a serpentine belt issue and they researched and corrected the problem at no cost to me. They never tried to push me off or try and say that this was my problem. In addition, Justine fully explained the driveabiltiy and performance expectations. Bottom line is that these guys are great. read more

Brought my car to get repaired and end up having it come out with a window switch panel damaged which was not like that when I had brought it in. Then they ended up saying that it was probably already broken or that Somebody leaned on it which is almost laughable cause it has never been like that and now my window does not work. Plus my headlights which I had to fix myself because they had the plug not all the way inserted so the lights were barley coming on, on one side after they replaced my light motor and said they would have to do more diagnosis which is 150 an hour... pretty ridiculous especially when they don't even do any repairs for all that money. Just sounded so shady like they were just doing things half ass to get me to blow more money. Just ended up being screwed out of a lot of cash for more problems to end up coming up. I don't recommend coming here especially if you have a car you have a lot of plans for cause it won't end well. I am really pissed with this experience. read more

I have has them do work on my race car/ show car. I am very picky on who touches my car since it is a world of wheels winner a few times. The first time I went to the shop they made me feel like part of there family. They took a lot of care and pride in the work they have done. And they stand behind what they do. Took my Mustang in to have a Catch can, Cold air intake and custom Dyno tune done. Left a message for Brad and he called me back that same day and spent a good amount of time on the phone with me explaining all my options. I really appreciated that he took all this time before I even committed to having the work done. I went over the parts I wanted to use with Brad and he gave me a quote right away. I was able to get the parts a bit cheaper from a third party and this was no problem. Something I really appreciated. I also wanted a second tune to compare against and the kit I ordered came with a tune from a tuner I used in the past. Brad was also very accommodating about dropping off and picking up the car. The work was done on my car same day and everything was installed very neatly and professionally. When I went to pick the car up I got to drive it around and check everything out before paying. I liked that Bard was willing to answer any questions I had before paying. I compared the custom tune from Brad against the one that came with my kits and they aren't even close. Brads tune is night and day better well worth the money. These guys do great work and are honest. I would recommend this shop to anyone looking to get some extra power out of there modern muscle car!! read more

Beware, they do not stand behind their work, I paid them to install a intake, they said their tech was the best in the business, turned out he installed a bracket on upside down so air cleaner would not set down, this was after he had dropped all the engine parts on the dirty floor, they will not stand behind any warranty and wont refund my money, they only offer excuses and have the nerve to blame maker of the intake, I watched tech and he never bothered to read instructions, when I ask him about that he said he had it under control, BEWARE THIS BUSINESS AS THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR WORK. read more

I have been going to Modern Muscle now probably for almost a couple years now for all my automotive work. I feel very comfortable with the staff and completely trust them with my car. I'm not a mechanic or a car guru by trade or know the in's and out's of a working motor, but if I have a question or issue...the staff at Modern Muscle have always taken the time to answer questions for me. Modern Muscle has worked on two cars for me. I keep going back because they treat me right, they are very upfront and professional, and they do good work. I completely understand that when you start tearing into an engine and reinstalling different parts on the car that weren't there before, there will be kinks to work out. Modern Muscle has always stood behind there work and fixed what kinks if any that have popped up without hesitation or questions. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. read more
