Repeat Customer, Repeat Rave I originally had Hill…read moreConstruction out in 2012 and install a long driveway (70-80 feet) that goes from narrow, to a double its width, and a short walkway from the sidewalk to my steps. My home was built in 1894 and this was a serious upgrade from crushed rock. The next year I hired them again to install a lovely path (about 50 feet) on the other side of my house. I let several years go by. About a month ago I realized that all the pavers probably could use a refresh, so I contacted Roger. He remembered my house and the projects. We set up a time for him to come by. It was a pleasure to see Roger again. We walked all areas, he looked at everything and he agreed that my pavers were overdue for a cleaning and refresh. Within a day he provided a very reasonable quote, letting me know he would schedule me once he got the necessary materials from the supplier. He assured me the result would be very pleasing with more depth to the color. Roger and his brother, Steve, arrived the afternoon of March 24th. A full afternoon of thorough cleaning, which left me amazed upon the end of that process. The 25th was a long, full day of very meticulous and detailed work. I swear that every single "grout" line looks like it was addressed. New sand was applied, not missing any joins or spots. Then 2+ coats of sealant. I was truly amazed at the outcome. Some pavers were replaced, everything up to the standards of Hill Construction and exactly what Roger promised. They take pride in their work, and it shows. I will be better on staying up on the routine maintenance, but now everything is set for several years! Happy to share photos and answer any questions.

We had the unfortunate experience of having our previous contractor abandon our substantial…read morebackyard project prior to finishing. This project includes several structural retaining walls as well as about 1400 sqft of paver patios. I called several contractors to try to finish the job, but most were hesitant to take on someone else's work. We had Roger over to give a bid, and I could tell he was also hesitant, but he was sympathetic to our situation and offered to quote the completion of the job including adding the capstones on the walls and complete the patios. He then made several recommendations on materials and was very energetic about the project. Timing was right and they were able to start pretty quickly. Roger and his guys were incredible to work with, they were on site every day, worked efficiently, and completed the entire project in just under 5 weeks. The previous contractor did a poor job with pouring the base concrete for the stairs, making them uneven, but this was not a problem for Hill Construction Company, they were able to make the finished project perfect. When it came time for the railing to be installed, Roger even referred me to an incredible railing contractor who was able to make amazing rails to tie the entire project together. After several months, the project still looks perfect, very high quality work with amazing attention to detail. Hill construction turned a nightmare project that we were dealing with for two years into the yard of our dreams. We cannot recommend a better guy and company, thanks Roger!!

Instead, someone showed up at our house at 12:30 PM and told us they would come back at 3:00 PM. They ultimately didn't arrive until 4:50 PM. When they did arrive, the visit lasted only a couple of minutes. Without asking questions or really looking at the space, they quickly said the project would likely cost $50K-$100K and discouraged us from moving forward. We were surprised by that response, as we were open to discussing projects in that range depending on the scope. What surprised us most was the lack of interest in understanding what we actually wanted done. There was no discussion of options or attempt to evaluate the project. It felt like a lot of assumptions were made before even having a conversation. Because of this experience, we would not recommend this company.

Here's our story: My wife and I bought a house in Q4 2019. The house itself seemed turnkey ready, but both the front and back yards needed major work. The previous owners put a pretty good mask on them during the selling process... I'd guess that they hired someone for yard clean-up, then simply poured tanbark on top of weeds (without properly removing them). During the purchasing process, we learned that the irrigation system was original 1955 galvanized steel and needed to be replaced. The end result was: our new house looked great from the inside... but the yards turned into neighborhood blights after about 3-4 months. We needed help. After blowing our nest egg on a down payment, we saved for another year to be able to afford actual landscape/hardscape. We weren't sure where to begin and engaged multiple vendors. Pearman Landscape was among them. From our first meeting, Robert Pearman behaved more like a trusted confidant than a vendor. We had never purchased hardscape services before... and it definitely showed. Rather than lead us around by our nose, like the greenhorns we obviously were, he described the entire process like an impartial 3rd party. Multiple times, he gave us information while acknowledging "whether you go with me or somebody else." Robert immediately sent over his designer, Kristin Bailey. I had read the Yelp reviews from Jody and Bob and immediately got worried, as they both claimed she was unresponsive. Luckily, I had a totally different experience. Kristin was prompt, she was polite, she was helpful, and I ended up chatting with her for about 45-minutes after we walked through my yard. I found her to be an absolute treat and I can't imagine anyone having a bad experience with her. She was wonderful every step of the way. Listened to what we needed, asked us great follow-up questions, made sure she was including plants and trees that we wanted in our design... and finished our plan in less than 2-weeks. It was very reasonably priced and we fell in love with the plan immediately after viewing it. I can't speak highly enough about Kristin. Based on our positive experience, we decided to move forward with Pearman Landscape. Not only will they redo our hardscape/landscape/irrigation, but I intend to retain them for garden maintenance after the project is completed. I'll provide updates and pictures as the process unfolds, but suffice to say: we're having a totally positive experience so far and I wanted to leave a 5-star review for any potential clients who might be considering Pearman. My family reached out to 15 different landscape companies around the SJ/South Bay area and Pearman stands head-and-shoulders above the other 14 suitors, both in terms of promptness, responsiveness, helpfulness, and pricing. I've never had those problems before. Ultimately they came through. Workmen were great: the problem was supervision and project management. Absolutely would not work with them again.

Our project was extensive, involving hardscaping, landscaping, fence work, lighting, and an outdoor sink. After vetting 8-9 different quotes, James's proposal stood out for being highly competitive without sacrificing high-quality specs. The execution more than matched the pitch. James is wonderful to work with--never pushy and truly dedicated to his craft. He has completed a ton of projects in the area and had an extensive portfolio of example pictures / videos to show us. This was incredibly helpful in narrowing down our choices for pavers and materials to match our vision. He was on-site with the crew every single day, which made communication seamless. You only have to explain your vision once; he "just gets it," remembers the details, and executes perfectly. The crew is easily the most hardworking and efficient team we have ever seen.
