We visited for a wine tasting. The service was okay- they were setting up and a bit disorganized. But, they got everything moving along eventually. The team didn't offer much about the wine and cheese pairings, but we asked questions. We wanted to support a small business so we also bought a bottle of wine and ordered dessert. This is a hidden gem. The atmosphere is totally charming. There are outdoor tables, and it looks like the perfect setting to bring a friend or a nice place to read and enjoy your coffee. I had ordered a decaf cafe mocha and a gluten-free chocolate chip scone (which was yummy with melted chocolate chips). I can't believe I found a darling little place to get a good latte. The batista also welcomed me, went over what they have, and made suggestions that work for me. She also encouraged me to visit their wine tasting events on Fri & Sat afternoon/night. I stopped wasting my money at that famous coffee place (starts with an S) their coffee tastes like water now. If you want a delicious cup of coffee, give this place a try. I know this is a wine cellar but this review is strictly for their house coffee: it is hands down my favorite coffee!!! We used to frequent a bunch of coffee shops in the area but this one takes the cake and we always find ourselves coming back here over the other shops. I stopped by the Modern Cellar because I was in the mood for a latte or a sweet treat, and the location and ambiance of the shop is relaxed and inviting. The employees are very friendly and kind. As much as I'd like to give this place a 5 star rating, the coffee and brownie I picked up are very average; I paid nearly $15 for both and don't like either of the two. I got the seasonal coconut almond latte and the almond is extremely overwhelming: every sip of the drink tastes like very sweet almond extract, as though I'm drinking the syrup itself. I can't get myself to finish the drink barely a quarter way into it. I had the sweet barista add two extra shots of espresso to the drink for me to try and decrease the sweetness without asking to remake the drink, which didn't help like I thought it might. The Valrhona Brownie tastes like a baked good, but... not like chocolate at all. I personally don't think I would order either item again, but I'd be open to returning to try other drinks on the coffee menu as well as the other pastries. The employees were so nice that I don't have the heart to leave a 3-star rating I'd associate with my drink and dessert. read more

If you aren't inspired by your tasting flight, they have plenty to offer around the rest of the shop. On top of that, they are a coffee shop with baked goods ready to go. Gina and her staff provide excellent service and can answer any questions you have. If I could only drink one coffee for the rest of my life, it would be Modern Cellar's iced House Coffee. In my decades of enjoying coffee nothing compares to this iced coffee. It has truly elevated my palette to the point where most other coffee shops fall short in their delivery. I know Modern Cellar is a primarily wine shop which I honestly love so much because it is a fantastic place to get wine, enjoy a glass, do a tasting, and participate in their wine club. But I purchase this coffee far more than any wine and I am in this establishment several times a week specifically for their coffee. If you haven't tried it yet, it's an absolute treat. My husband bought me a chocolate as I was with our toddler next door and so I opened it and we both took a piece as we were shopping. The chocolate tasted a bit odd so I looked at the package and noticed it was expired by almost a whole year. I was raving about this place to my friends and family who live in cypress because the coffee was reasonably priced and the pastries were good. However, I will no longer give my money to this business because one of the workers there were extremely rude to my kind husband who went to ask about the expired chocolate before he even requested a refund. The women who was servicing him did refund him but maliciously laughed out loud at him for taking a few bites which was from me too. She gave him attitude and was assuming sarcastically that my husband consumed half when he and I consumed one row on our first bite as the chocolate bar was small to start with. I dropped in on a whim when I saw that this business had both coffee and wine. As someone who's family is in the wine business both at the retail and vineyard level I was curious. What I was met with was a pleasant surprise. Modern with a splash of elegance is what I found. A coffee bar with a wide variety of drinks, some yummy pastries tempting you at eye level while trying to decide which drink to order. I ordered a cinnamon coffee with orange in it that was pleasantly delicious and surprisingly not what I expected. The pot pie pastry reminded me of the ones I'd pick up on the corner when I lived in Paris. Being super picky I usually have to rearrange my coffee to my liking but here this didn't happen which made me sit down to fully enjoy the place instead of drinking on the run. What I was met with was a well stocked variety of wine that would please most any wine drinker. Displaced throughout the store I looked at all the varieties that were offered and found not just one vineyard or what's the "New" in wine offered but a wide variety that shows me the buyer is making a strong effort to meet the needs of clients with different tastes. Knowing wine, both retail and from the growing at vineyard level I have to say I'm impressed enough I may even approach the owner and offer a free tasting of our award winning organic wines. I plan to try their cheese and wine sampling which I saw offered and I will be back for coffee again when in that area. read more
