An amazing selection if you're looking for gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan. A big selection of delicious fresh baked goods, bagels, sandwiches, pasties, and coffee. I love the bacon, egg, and cheese bagel and their chocolate cupcakes. The friendly staff moves the line along well.

For gluten free I'd say this place is decent. And the food is big and matches the price. The burrata bagel was yummy and I enjoyed all the flavors. However the bagel was soggy and the seasoning tasted different from a normal everything bagel that I know. The French toast was pretty good but I didn't like coffee sauce at all. The custard was pretty good.

Limited options on Bagels, but the ones they have are standard and good enough. Lines move slow-ish on Sunday's, but still effective. Cream cheese selections are amazing. Very high quality bagels. Is our local favorite when we are craving bagels!

I've found another strong addition to my ongoing NYC bagel research. They offer a variety of hot sandwiches, open-faced bagels, and baked goods.  Their bagels are incredibly fluffy. A major bonus: everything is gluten-free, with easy customization for dairy-free and vegan diets. B even if you're not gluten- or dairy-free, this place is still amazing. The shop was packed on a weekend, but the line moved quickly, and we got our orders within 10 minutes. Their uptown locations are conveniently close to museums, galleries, and Central Park. *Farmer's Garden $13.5 An open-faced bagel with heirloom tomato, cucumber, crispy capers, basil and dill. I chose a sesame bagel with chive cream cheese, which paired perfectly with a light drizzle of olive oil. It was super refreshing. Compared to the tomato bagel at Apollo Bagels, which I also loved for its crispy sourdough base, this one was much fluffier. Both are great in their own way, but this version felt lighter and juicier. *G'Day Mate $10.5 *The Big Show $11.5 The G'Day Mate was drizzled with harissa aioli which I really liked the spicy kick, while The Big Show was their vegan take on a classic SEC, made with vegan sausage. The portions were generous. The bagels were definitely filling, but not overwhelmingly massive like some other NYC bagels. We often find NY bagels a bit too big for one sitting.

Seriously incredible gluten-free bagels!! I got the vegan lox and my husband got the classic. We were debating whether we wanted another bagel to go, but we opted for a glazed donut and a chocolate pastry. Service was somewhat slow (subpar if I'm being honest), but the bagels were worth the wait. We cannot WAIT to come back!

Got the All vegan bacon, egg and cheese on everything bagel and it was delicious. It was probably one of the biggest bagel sandwiches I've held in my hand. The service was quick and friendly. Wait time for the food was minimal and interior was very nice and modern they have a variety of cream cheese and pastries. Looking forward to coming back.

Pricey for a bagel but they are good for gluten free bagel. They also had a bunch of other pastries the are vegan and nut free. Good options if you have food allergies.

This was my favorite vegan bagel I tried in ny!! I got the sesame bagel with carrot lox and tofu scallion spread. I've never tried carrot lox on a bagel so this was something new that I quite enjoyed. I can't recall the latte I ordered, but it was really good. My mom ordered the Mexican mocha, which she liked but noted that the cayenne made the drink a bit spicy for her. Just something to note if others have lower spice tolerance. I'd definitely want to come back to try some of the vegan pastries they offer

What a fantastic place! Even the bathroom was a good experience! It's cute in here and the staff are super pleasant. The best part was how AMAZING the bagels tasted. Better than many gluten filled donuts I had pre-celiac. Absolutely amazing. Highly recommend getting a dozen - I wish I had!

Smaller than expected for all of the hype. And who asked you to cut it in half?!

This place is just mid. I think it's pretty overrated. I expressed excitement when the cashier informed me that every item in the store was gluten-free and the cashier mocked me to another customer in return. Nice. We paid $29 for two bagels with strawberry cream cheese and two iced coffees. The bagels were a massive disappointment and the coffee ranked among the worst I've ever had. They toasted the absolute bejeezus out of the bagels. When I unwrapped them, they were small and flat and so hot that they had completely melted all of the strawberry cream cheese. It was soup. Dripped everywhere. The cream cheese was also very warm in temperature. No cold, creamy substance to it at all. The bagels were cut and wrapped in two halves, which I also did not request. Definitely not worth $9, much less the $29 we paid for this below average New York experience. I'm really glad I resisted the urge to stock up on other gluten-free delights while in the store.

All bagels and pastry arw gluten-free. And it tastes good! Been coming here for months. Although by the end of the day bagels can get a little hard, especially everything bagel. Cinnamon raising sometimes is a little over powering with Cinnamon flavor. Quiet place. Deli/kitchen closes around 4pm. Super friendy service.

Popped into Modern Bread and Bagel towards the end of the day. Their Raspberry donut was just calling my name through the window. "Try me, Try me" it was saying. However, I came inside and saw so many other options and their Cinnamon bon was trying to call me too! It was super hard to make a decision, but I landed on the Cinnamon bon as Danny said that it was their best seller. However, Danny was so nice to give me the Raspberry donut on the house. Super nice staff and so many options that are Delicious!! I will be back!

Smoked Whitefish Sandwich $15.50

March specials are for me since many are made with coconut! I didn't love them though. I went during lunch yesterday (a Friday) and it was very busy. I ordered a whitefish sandwich on an everything bagel $15.50. It took at least 15 minutes for me to get the sandwich. Quite a few people waiting for orders and almost all seats on the benches were taken (there are no tables). It wasn't a bad sandwich but not my favorite. There are some nice chunks of fish in the salad. I ordered a coconut white chocolate latte, a March special, for $7.50. They didn't charge extra for it to be iced. I enjoyed the latte even if it was a bit too sweet. Then I ordered a piece of pineapple coconut babka $6.95 and a coconut white chocolate bundt cake $7.50. I don't love either one. When I took a bite of the babka the exterior tasted like there was paper attached to it. There were bits of coconut in it but not much pineapple flavor. The Bundt cake was super crumbly. Not sure how the white chocolate was incorporated. On a previous visit I got a loaf of bread. Unfortunately forget what it was called; it was a white bread of some sort. It was best eaten toasted. I tried a cinnamon roll slice. Way too sugary!!! If it didn't taste like I was eating a cup of sugar it would've been really good.

Do they have indoor seating?

They have a Couple of tables and chairs . I think you order at counter can get food and sit down. Seating seems casual and limited. The times I have been there it is really crowded. I always takeout

Do they have wifi here?

Not sure if they do or not. However, you will not be welcome to sit there and relax like u would at a Starbucks. They "encourage" u to order, eat and make room for the next patron.

Is a plain bagel vegan or is there egg/dairy in it?

Hi Daniel. There are eggs in the bagels at Modern Bread and Bagel but no dairy products.

I got the market salad with grilled chicken which was very filling and packed with flavor. Think vintage wallpaper, little knick-knacks, and warm lighting. It's got character. I ordered the market salad with mixed greens, honeycrisp apples, goat cheese, candied pecans, and sherry vinaigrette. It was a hearty portion - super fresh and flavorful, and honestly more than I could finish (not a complaint!). I also ordered a Diet Pepsi with grenadine; they don't carry Diet Coke, which I almost docked a point for, but the mix was unexpectedly delicious. Highly recommend it. My date ordered the hanger steak and said it was absolutely amazing. Only hiccup: his first glass of wine he got came out hot... like, microwave-level warm. Fortunately, the server brought a new (cold) one and the rest of the meal was smooth sailing. Service was friendly, the vibe was homey and relaxed, and the food was solid across the board. Would definitely come back, especially for that salad and another round of grenadine magic.

After a weekend of rich, indulgent meals, we were looking for something a little more…read morestraightforward and comforting. We also wanted to try a classic pastrami on rye--but without committing to the long lines at Katz's Delicatessen. Sarge's ended up being the perfect alternative, just a quick five-minute walk from our hotel. We arrived around 5:00 pm on a Sunday and were seated right away, which already felt like a win. The meal started with coleslaw and both a half sour and full sour pickle--such a classic deli touch, and a great way to kick things off. I ordered the half sandwich with matzah ball soup, and the portion sizes were no joke. The soup alone could have been a full meal: a huge bowl with an equally massive matzah ball. The broth was warm and soothing, and the matzah ball was incredibly light with a perfect texture. The half pastrami on rye was just as impressive. Even "half" was stacked high with flavorful, tender pastrami. Adding a bit of mustard from the table brought everything together--it was simple, classic, and exactly what I was hoping for. Not only was it one of the more reasonably priced meals of the trip, but it was also genuinely satisfying. If you're looking for a no-fuss, traditional deli experience without the wait, Sarge's is a great option.
