I want to state the acupuncture practitioners here are excellent. I cannot say anything good about the management and so I will let my experience speak for itself. This review documents my experience with a manager who did not take responsibility for employee errors and outright refused to honor my sessions. As of the writing of this complaint, I have 9 sessions 'accrued' at the Franchise. The manager is refusing to refund me after not honoring the bookings I made for them. See attached photos. Instead, he insisted I trade the value I paid $39/session into 'ad-hoc' sessions and cancel my plan. I was being considered for an out of state job where there is no Modern Acupuncture location, so I didn't want to keep 'adding' to the account total which I why I booked all of the sessions I had remaining. I explained if I didn't end up moving out of state, I would happily buy more and asked to pause billing on 11/17 which is also when I did the scheduling for my sessions. I noticed my credit card was billed $159 on 11/19 AFTER I had gone into the business and specifically asked not to be charged given the fact I had enough sessions already especially if I had to relocate. The manager said they would NOT be honoring the bookings since his employee made a mistake. (Ever heard of customer service?) Instead, he wanted to cancel my plan and leverage all the session funds I had on file totaling over $300 and convert them into HIGHER PRICED sessions. I said ABSOLUTELY NOT. I want a refund instead. He refused. I won't be strongarmed into this kind of unethical situation where my value as a customer is completely disregarded and disrespected. As a result I've had to file complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General Office. While the staff are wonderful aside from the Manager, I was made to feel completely disrespected and that my only value as a customer was money, money, money not loyalty. I'm glad at least I can share my experience to protect others from the same treatment. read more

After going to Thai Luxury and Reflexology, I was still in pain and needed to find some relief. I hopped on Yelp, and Modern Acupuncture popped up, so I made a reservation and went for it. As soon as I walked in, I felt so calm--the space smelled amazing and had such a peaceful vibe. It was so quiet and relaxing that I didn't even think to snap any pics. The prices are super affordable, which made me feel even better about giving it a try. When I got there, I filled out a form, and the girl at the front desk was so sweet and helpful. She answered all my questions and made me feel right at home. Then I met Benjamin L., who was absolutely lovely. He asked where I was feeling pain, then explained everything he was going to do. He made me feel really comfortable about the whole process. When he started the acupuncture, I barely felt a thing! I just relaxed on the massage table, and honestly, it felt amazing. By the time I walked out, I was refreshed and feeling a little better already. Benjamin suggested coming back for more sessions, so I'm definitely going to make more appointments. I've frequented the other locations around the Valley for MA- this was my first visit to SanTan Village. It happened to be the only location near me open on a Saturday, since I don't frequent on weekday evenings anymore like I used to. Sandwiched between popular eateries, the vibe was a bit off. One side is lively & loud w/ 5 Guys & their outdoor seating, music & patrons gathering. Opposite is Cinnaholic w/ the wafering bakery smells forcing temptation on your senses. ...so do I want to backtrack w/ a greasy burger or sugary snack after? Out of the blue I got the urge for an acupuncture session- it's been a while! The receptionist here was very welcoming & kind. I called ahead & was able to get a same day appointment for late afternoon. I felt comfortable & the wait before being taken back was less than 5 minutes. I've never had an issue with my appointment being late at any of the locations & this was no different- you do still have to fill out the intake form if it's a new location, so I suggest doing that online so you can go straight in w/o repeating orientation! The LAC practitioner here is the same one who has treated me at the other locations, so it was great to see someone familiar & keen to my history/journey. It always throws me for a loop when he asks to see my tongue but also leaves me confident knowing he's checking on certain healthy aspects to accurately target what my body needs. And with that, it took a few minutes to place the needles... off I go drifting into meditation following the tropical escape on the screens above while the chair is gently massaging. And this is why I dock a star- besides the wafering scent of fresh baked cinnamon rolls w/ muffled sounds from 5 Guys on the opposite side of the walls... it's a bit rude to have your meditation interrupted by chit-chat w/ the patient in the next chair over as they're being admitted or released. With only a fabric divider between chairs, noise travels VERY easily. It's a downfall having 5-10 minutes interrupted by conversation right next to you. 30 minutes isn't a very long session to begin with, so you want/expect to get the max out of it without it being interrupted. (And some patients are just inconsiderate when they arrive or depart- slamming their shoes on the ground or loudly talking.) The ambience here is fantastic, though. Very comfortable chairs w/ heat & massage functions. A tranquil room w/ salt lamp ambience, meditation music & elevated screens of nature escapes. It's the best 30 minutes of any day & I always leave feeling amazing, like so much stress has been relieved & I'm back in my "groove", like a good chiropractor adjustment even though I've never been to a chiropractor, lol. This has become a guilty pleasure, I just wish it was more affordable & the full perks were still in place. Because that's why I don't visit as often anymore. The complimentary tea following a session was a huge benefit that rounded the experience out- I haven't been able to get my tea upon wrapping up my sessions anymore. Only the option to buy the tea bags & make it at home. And, $80 per 30 min session is not within a price range many can afford. There are package deals, but I didn't have a good experience with that when I ended up losing money not being able to make 6 appointments in 1 month with no option to carry over. And if you cancel your membership they revoke what you've already paid for, which is why the walk in option is really the only option if you don't have a set location w/ a set schedule. I love what is offered here & will definitely be back on occasion- just wish the short sessions weren't interrupted by other clients & the prices were a bit more affordable to be able to visit more often. It's just not practical or affordable to keep consistency in a treatment plan here. And, I can't get over the absence of my zen tea! read more

One day in 2023, I was stung on my face by a scorpion. Scorpion venom anywhere is extremely painful, but on my face, it was unbearable. Luckily I had learned that acupuncture can really, really mitigate the discomfort of a scorpion bite and help move the poison out of your system more quickly so you don't feel so systemically awful. I had two acupuncturists I really like in the East Valley, but one moved to Portugal and the other suspended her practice and never resumed it. So I tried to find a new place for acupuncture, and the only place that had appointments that day and didn't charge an arm and a leg was Modern Acupuncture in Gilbert. I was really suffering by the time I arrived for my appointment. Somehow, though, I pulled myself together enough to be professional and behave appropriately when I walked into the clinic. There were two people in the reception area: a really small woman I had talked to on the phone, and a really large man whom I screened out, since the woman knew who I was and why I was there. But the guy didn't ignore me. In fact, he said to me, "Everything is going to be OK. You can calm down now," but I was focused on what the woman was saying to me and didn't respond to him. So he tried again, after I filled out the paperwork, and inserted himself into my conversation with the woman. "I can see your energy. It's huge. It's clear out to here," he said, raising his arms above his head and spreading them wide. "I need you to bring your energy back down to...." "Don't you condescend to me," I said, interrupting him as he drew his arms close to his body and made tight fists with his hands. "I am doing the best I can. If you don't like my energy, go right ahead and tell me to leave, and I will. But don't tell me I have to exist differently to suit your comfort, when all I'm doing is existing." He was pretty taken aback. Apparently he feels completely qualified and at liberty to police the energy of everyone who walks into his place of business and does not get much pushback. It would have been different if I had directed my "energy" at him, or if I'd caused a scene. But I didn't. I was respectful and polite and was just trying to conduct appropriate business at a capitalist enterprise while I was experiencing significant pain. If he really didn't like my energy, he could have just put up a shield to protect himself from the way I failed to focus on him. And if he really has such a problem with someone whose energy is weird because they're in medical distress, maybe he should find a different business. The treatment room, which contained about half a dozen people receiving simultaneous treatments, was a dark, cavernous space with new age music turned up very loud and multiple TV screens showing lots of fish, neither of which I found relaxing. I also didn't like being seated in a chair instead of supine on a table. The acupuncturist was fine; his insertions were clean, and he happily responded to my requests for additional needles or for tweaking the ones already in my body. But the overall experience wasn't nearly as healing as being alone in a small treatment room. When the treatment was over, the acupuncturist gave me his recommendations for future treatment: he wanted me to come in three times a week for at least four weeks. So even though Modern Acupuncture offers the least personal, private, individualized acupuncture sessions I've ever had, being treated there is far more expensive than at any other any other acupuncture clinic I've ever patronized in the 30 years since I first had acupuncture. And to manage the greater expense, Modern Acupuncture wanted me to give them permission to charge my credit card every month. Needless to say, I won't go back. I also recommend that others find an acupuncturist who can provide more personal, private treatment. read more

My husband and I came here for the first time today. I've had acupuncture before but never in such a relaxing environment. First off, the decor was beautiful and you can instantly feel the zen vibe. The receptionist was really nice and helpful and she explained how the process works in details. The Zen den is a room with multiple chairs and partial curtains. The chairs are zero gravity with massagers and heat. It was very comfortable and really helped make the time pass by much quicker. The room was kind of cold so I'm glad they had a pillow to help you cover up a bit. The first few minutes with the needles was kind of intense but then the nerves and pinching feeling goes away. The rest of the time I was quite relaxed. The combination of the massage chair and soft music made it a spa-like experience which is so much better than the traditional acupuncture. This was my husband's first time and he is really afraid of needles. To my surprise, he really enjoyed it and said his headache was gone. He did say it made him nauseous at first but it went away after a few minutes. He is impressed and hooked. The tea that was offered afterwards was an added bonus. Specifically the strawberry tea, it was really refreshing! They offer a variety of plans which are pretty affordable. We are definitely thinking of signing up for their monthly plans now. This was one of the most relaxing acupuncture sessions that I've had. The acupuncturist focused on having restful sleep and blood circulation throughout my face and lower leg areas. I almost fell asleep while in my session. The room was nice and cool, the chairs that you sit in lean back because there are zero gravity and they also have heat settings and massage settings. At the end of your session if you choose you get a couple of cleansing hot or cold tea. Be sure to drink plenty of water after your session to flush out all the toxins that will possibly be released. The acupuncturist gave me some great tips on went to do following my session. They have plenty of package options to fit your budget that are affordable. I will definitely be back. read more

When I first meet the team at Modern Acupuncture I was living on steroids and apples which was the only "safe food" I could think of because my Dr had told me I couldn't eat most things. I've been suffering with Ménière's Disease since 2018 and after a year in remission, I was nearly bed ridden for months this year. I'm talking about pain so bad, you pray God takes you if he won't make it stop. My first day here Klint listened to what I had been going through, placed the pins and said he'd see me twice a week. BEST SLEEP EVER! I can't over stress this enough, from someone who is used to sleeping less than 5 hours a night, averaging 4, to having a full 8 hours of sleep that evening WOW! My ears were constantly ringing prior to seeing Klint every week. I was so tired, so stressed and in so much pain. Klint has helped me get my life back! I am sleeping, I am working, eating, bike riding, roller blading and can hear again without the ringing! My insurance will pay for me to go to another Dr in this area and my experience at that office was so terrible that I 100 percent prefer to come and see Klint and I will drive 30 minutes to get to him in Mesa if I can't make it to Gilbert. Never had acupuncture done in my life, so I was excited going into this opportunity. It was more than I had expected it to be. This franchise truly did it right though. From the initial set up over the phone and email to settling the nerves inside. The ladies at the front desk were good walking through step by step initiation over the phone and getting me into their system. There was some slight confusion at first with the email used in the system matching up to what was on file but after that everything was smooth sailing. Arrived for my appointment 5 minutes beforehand and the lady offered us hot or cold tea after our appointment. She also took care of me though with some other products, and my follow up appointment. The guy inside that was in charge of the actual acupuncture was legit for me at least. He was able to pinpoint (pun intended) some areas of focus. He targeted my liver and some other things that he read based on checking my vitals it was actually pretty dope and impressive. Would definitely suggest this place and it's people, great service and a great product. read more

From the moment you walk in you are greeted by a super friendly girl that just makes you feel at home, even if you've never done acupuncture before you will feel very at ease. Next you are walked into "The Zen Room" it's inviting and very "zen full" I would compare it to a nice spa waiting area. The chairs are big and they recline to no end. Add to that the massage and heat feature and you'll find yourself sleeping before the acupuncturist gets to you. Lastly your acupuncturist will greet you and go over your ailments. Experience was ok...the receptionist was very friendly and organized. The acupuncturist though was not very attentive...I wound up being allergic to the needles but he never checked on me after putting the needles in and there is no way to summon someone so that way you can let them know, so I wound up being rather itchy. The receptionist also signed me up to do the cosmetic acupuncture but the acupuncturist didn't do that, which after being allergic to the needles was probably better. First, the entrance area and treatment area are clean. That is all the good I can say. They can not keep employees! High turnover rate and they are almost always very rude! Very rude. The reception area is the size of a walk in closet and very awkward to wait your turn. The service is received was not good. The acupuncturist my first visit barely gave me any attention, got the needles in and never checked on me. I went twice before canceling, going here creates more stress in your life not less. When you fill out the online intake form you are signing a binding contract for a monthly membership. Then Shannon Tolbert and her husband will illegally charge your credit card every month after you provide a written and verbal cancellation. Mr. Tolbert is argumentative and lack people skills. What an absolute wonderful experience  We were greeted by the beautiful owner Shannon. The waiting area is very clean and sterile and the aroma of essential oils permeated the air setting the calming and relaxation atmosphere. As the doors glided open and we entered The Zen Lounge the peace and tranquility and beauty of the space immediatedly draws you in. Shannon escorted me  to my massage chair and made sure I was comfortable. Then the Acupuncturist Benjamin came over to discuss what areas I wanted to work on. Benjamin's healing energy and spirit was very reassuring and his skillfulness pin pointed my sources of pain and put me in a state of complete relaxation to the point I fell asleep. The overall experience left me feeling relief, relaxed and rejuvenated.
