First time here and was not disappointed at all. You can customize any pizza with unlimited toppings. The crust is pretty thin so load it up!! I started with a base of Lucy sunshine : mozzarella, parmesan, artichokes, garlic, and replaced the sauce with white sauce, added spinach and artichoke hearts, then roasted bell peppers , no sun dried tomatoes but I wanted to keep this one more vegetarian, topped with mozzarella, Asiago and parmigiana plus a sprinkle of crushed red pepper. The second was a Mad Dog : mozzarella, pepperoni, mild sausage, ground beef, red sauce, added tomatoes, black olives and jalapeños. Added a garden salad plus some more artichoke hearts and a Caesar salad as is. Also got two each of several drsssings : Caesar, Italian, pesto and fig glaze. Also got a San pellegrino limonata pulse a black cherry soda. After tip my total was close to $60 which might be pricey BUT it was eaten by three people so it's reasonable per person. read more

It was much better before the pandemic, as many businesses can say. The service gets slower every time we come. Maybe some employees aren't prepping ahead for sauces etc. More training may be needed. I'm sure it's hard to find good employees. Also, we were waiting for them to slide the pizza down to the other side for the second phase of extra toppings. The employee looked at me funny and said, it's the same on both sides. Well, we've been coming here for many years so it would be helpful to make it obvious of a change like that. MOD Pizza has become my favorite "custom" pizza spot. I use to like Pieology, but this place is far beyond that. Great quality pizza at a fair price. My main reason I prefer this chain, is you can enjoy your pizza and not have grease dripping down your hand. That's fresh baked pizza at its finest! MOD has the standard build your own pizza, plus several pre-made creations to choose from. They have gluten free crust, and now their new cauliflower crust ( AMAZING!). With most curbside pick-up scenarios, you show-up, call the restaurant to let them know you're there, and wait. And, wait. Location: Located at the west end of Downey's newish Downey Promenade off of Lakewood Blvd. Parking: There's free parking all around or nearby. Food: it's one of the newer customize-your-own pizza franchises. The food is good. I love being able to make my own pizza and fill it up with vegetables. They also have make your own salads. Both pizza and salads in different sizes and prices. They also have a menu with a variety of pizza choices. They have garlic strips but they're VERY thin, which I don't mind. They're $2.99 so you're not really getting your moneys worth but I'm not going to complain about an extra dollar. Food here has never disappointed. Service: These kids are A+ !!! I call them "kids" because I'm officially old enough to be their mom. They're polite, friendly, and give great service every time. Cleanliness: Very clean! Major plus. This would be my first time at MOD Pizza. Never before have I created my own pizza and was not familiar with what I could add. So un decisive that at the end I forgot to add the jalapeños. Pizza already in the oven and I asked one of the workers if it was too late to take it out and add jalapeños. He said of course and went out of his way to make my experience unforgettable. MOD Pizza is a decent alternative to the small oven pizza chains like Blaze Pizza and Pizza Press. Their topping choices are limited but still hit the spot. They have plant based sausage gluten free dough and cauliflower based dough. Restaurant was clean inside and out. Drink choices include fountain drinks, canned drinks and lemonade. Working near the Downey promenade there's a lot to choose from but I love the delicious and speedy service that MOD pizza offers. With their app I have the ability to place mobile orders for pickup. This seems like a waste of time because obviously the manager doesn't read the yelp reviews nor does the manager reply to the reviews.... -This occurred on August 18th 2023- I'm pretty disappointed in the service I received tonight, I showed up at 10:45PM only to be denied service and food, the two employees which were working denied me service and stated they were closed already. Although the door and google states 11pm, I am a loyal customer who eats here about 3 times a month and never been thru this with prior staff, I asked both ladies for their names and only 1 gave their name which was jade, the other woman which is blonde/skinny/tall figure was rude about the situation. Jade was the only one to try an explain anything... however I'm still not happy with this behavior. Why would the closing time say 11pm if they are locking the doors and denying orders at 10:45? If you can't accommodate people till 11pm the best thing to do would be to change the closing hours. I'm pretty disappointed with the new staff because I am a frequent customer and all the other staff knew me by name and would always take care of me. I hope this issue is corrected before my next visit. Either change the hours or honor your business hours, I can guarantee I won't be leaving a tip for either of these women in the future. MOD Pizza reminds me of a step sister that Blaze Pizza didn't know he had. When you walk in, you can't help but notice the cool backdrop of images on the wall. The wall looks to be inspired by Hawaiian culture. However, the pizza is what I was looking forward to eat. Compared to Blaze, it somewhat lacks flavor. The mozzarella cheese that they use is lackluster. The thin crust is uneventful. Perhaps I am not choosing the correct crust. Parking is a hit or miss at the Promenade at Downey. Sometimes, it is easy to find parking, and sometimes, it is horrendous. The traffic flow at the Promenade isn't so friendly. Also, the couple of times that I have come here for lunch. I always have to wait a while to place my order and receive my order. During lunch time, I need the process to go faster as I only allowed an hour for lunch. I came here unplanned. I was late to a movie I wanted to see, but was also hungry. So, I bought a ticket for an hour later and went on a hunt for food. Only 200 ft away was Mod Pizza. I walked in (lunch hour) and there were maybe 5 people in front of me. The line moved pretty quick. I love coming to places like this, where you can customize your own food from the bottom up.
