Hugely disappointing. In hopes of a chewy, springy, maybe a little greasy and warm mochi donuts and mabye getting in some polyphenols with an Ube frosting, I ordered a plain mochi donut, an ube mochi donut and then, since I love hot Cheetos, I decided to splurge on the Hot Cheeto, nacho potato hotdog. First off, the donuts are cold, so the ample grease used in creating them adheres to the roof of your mouth. Yuck. If you order one donut rather than a pack of donuts, the donuts come individually packaged in clear plastic boxes that are unlikely to ever be recycled. Gross overkill. The one benefit, to me, is that the texture of the mochi donut is much more enjoyable than a standard flour donut. I liked the donut texture and the fact that the batter itself was not too sweet. On balance though I'm not coming back for another cold one of these. If it were served warm and in paper, I might consider buying another plain one. However, at $3.50 each, I feel like it's not a great value. Second, instead of Ube in this frosting on the Ube Mochi Donut, it's ample Red Dye #3. You can tell from the look of the frosting, which is too dark to be Ube, plus the bitter taste of Red Dye #3, (that is still legal in Ca in food coloring) that they make it purple with dye, not with Ube. I've not tasted Red Dye #3 since I was a child. If nostalgic for a heaping helping of carcinogens in your food, this is your spot! When I read Nacho Cheese in the description, I assumed a savory cheese mixture. In fact the cheese is a sort of white velveeta mixed with a sweetener. Short of a roach, I can't imagine a worse surprise next to a hot dog than the sweetness I would expect in a cheese danish. The red powdery stuff on the outside tastes nothing like Red Hot Cheetos. It was just decoration. The mashed potatoes that are packed around the hot dog and deep fried are studded with French fries. All of the potatoe mixture has a hint of sweet. It's clearly something that came out of a deep freeze, having been assembled at a factory. I feel like I am eating pretend, plastic food, like in a display. I could not eat it. Waste makes me sad but the idea of getting sick from this grossness makes me sadder. So, it went into the compost bin. The only redeeming feature of this item is the well designed, adorable and compostable box that it comes in. The only time you might see a human when in this store is when employees, who are slogging back and forth from freezer to deep fryer may trudge past the kitchen door. Other than that, you order at a kiosk and your food just appears, with your name on it (even tho I only gave them my phone#) on the counter. Don't be fooled by the cute, cheerful, clean looking exterior of this business. It could not be more depressing. Even tho I ate just a bite of each donut and a bite of the weird hot dog thing, I still feel icky from it. If you listen to your body, it will tell you not to go back! read more

See all

I was excited when I saw a Mochinut store opens near me! Came on Tuesday afternoon to get snacks and I was disappointed. I got the potato half and half with a matcha latte w/ boba. First off, the packaging of the boba is so cute but the matcha just wasn't it. The boba itself was reallly soft and not chewy at all. I could def taste the brown sugar tho. Now to the corndog. I've tried the same thing from a chain down in Socal and it was really good. This one wasnt the same tho :'( the potato was crispy and the mozzarella def melted but there's no sort of seasoning to the batter nor the potato. The sauce itself was like a chick*ila sauce almost. And the price is higher than in socal. Would come back to try their donuts tho! read more

The churro donuts were so good!! + the service was awesome! Will stop by again when in town

Really love this place. So much better than the other Mochi donut place. And they have Korean Corndogs and boba! What more can you ask for!

First time to a mochinut franchise. It's super small in there so just order and wait outside. The corndogs were amazing and the donuts are super light and chewy. read more

I'll start with the fact that the half mozzarella half dog sweet potato corndog was really good. From the start the techno ordering is lame. There is NOBODY in the front of the house. It sucks if it is your first time there, nobody to answer questions. After ordering you just wait for something to happen. LAME. If it was really cheap, it may be worth it. The mochinuts were not exceptional. I will go look for Korean corndogs someplace else. If my car ran out of gas and I was within a block, I would go get a corndog only because I got trained on the techno system and the dog was good. read more

Can't speak to the customer service or wait times because I've only ordered for delivery and always get my order in time or early. The donuts hit the spot, I've tried about 6 flavors and haven't had one yet that I haven't liked. I think the fruity flavors are my fav though. The consistency of the donuts are perfection and always feel freshly made. The boba drinks are not the best I've ever had but they're really solid and the boba feels nicer than most. read more

Tbh the bobas aren't my fave. They're all a bit too sweet and there's no way to request less sweetener when ordering online. However the donuts and corn dogs are amazing and will keep me coming back. read more

The mochinuts brand supposes to be expensive because they don't make it till you order it. At least it s the cases for most of the mochinuts we went. Unfortunately, this place premade/prepared the donuts like 100 of them beforehand. As it turned out it tasted like hot&fresh out of oven mochinuts. read more

No one greeted me. I had some questions about some of the items but no one came despite ringing the bell. Tried ordering a corn dog at the kiosk only for them to tell me they aren't serving food now. 30 mins wait for a single boba drink, and the line wasn't even big. To make matters worse, the boba milk tea had a powdery taste. Terrible customer service and such a long wait for a milk + powder drink, would not recommend. read more

The wait if horribly long. I'm the only person here and it's taking 25 minutes to get my order even done with having to ask if done yet and still need 3 more minutes. Not only that no one is in the front. Everyone is in the back. I ordered 2 half and half hot dogs. I understand takes time but 25 minutes with no other orders ? Crazy read more

I wish I could leave no stars. But I guess I'll put because I got a refund. But with that being said, if you like cock roaches on your Mochinut, this this is the one go to. Smh read more

The server has a terrible attitude when serving, the order was ready and i could see it on the counter but the server with the curly hair did not give it to us. He is making Mochinut lose customers. I will obviously not be returning due to his terrible attitude. read more

We loved this place came in on a late night snack hunt and this place had it all. Service was amazing. The food was delicious. We tried the potato corndog, the hot cheeto corndog and the original. They were all delicious totally recommend this place! read more

I have the biggest stomachache after eating one of their donuts and I'm convinced it was made using expired ingredients. The frosting tasted like curdled milk that had been sitting out in the sun for hours and was immediately inedible after the first bite. The first taste in my mouth was expired milk and after I finished chewing it tasted like sour expired cream cheese. Had to take tums because the one bite hurt my stomach so much. I've had donuts here before and they've all been great but there was genuinely something wrong with this. Spent $4 on a donut I had to immediately throw in the trash and now I'm unable to walk with my stomach in so much pain. The taste is still stuck in the back of my mouth after drinking so much water. Genuinely the most disgusting donut I've ever eaten in my entire life and I can GUARANTEE whatever I purchased is not up to food safety codes. Do better mochinut Berkeley. read more

No idea how the food is because I refused to try it after the experience my son and I had. The family had a great day at Cal Day last weekend. My daughter ordered online and we went to pick up. We were waiting at the counter for our order and my son had to go to the bathroom. We head over and there's a giant sign on the door saying restrooms for customers only. Fine. Makes sense especially with Cal Day going on. But before we could get within five feet of the door some a-hole employee cuts us off and says restrooms for customers only. I say ok we are and motion to the rest of the family waiting at the counter. He doesn't believe me. I motion again and say my family is right there waiting for our order. He won't let us pass. Says you didn't order anything did you? I tell him we did and forget you, I'll go piss outside your front door (I didn't but thought about it). Some advice a-hole: if I don't look like whatever you're afraid of, I'm probably not going to take a dump on the floor or piss all over your precious bathroom. Way to ruin a nice day and way to lose a customer you could have had for at least four years. read more

saw this place while driving and wanted to try because i love mochi. then i was surprised when i seen it on snackpass and ordered it right away. i ordered 1 chocolate doughnut, 2 thai teas, and 3 korean hot dogs. i was very surprised to see that they sell korean hot dogs because its advertised as a doughnut place just looks like an average boba store. i love korean hot dogs and there's one place on durant in south side that sells korean hot dogs that are terrible and one place in north side that sells korean hot dogs that are good. and i am happy to see a good place selling korean hot dogs in south side the hot dogs were amazing. the original hot dog wiener tasted like costco hot dog weiners. it was packaged nicely and covered and had the flavor hot dog what it was on the sticker which other korean hot dog places fail to do where you kind of have to guess when you bite it. the hot dog is smaller than the korean hot dog place in northside but this place does taste better in my opinion the doughnut was really good but on snackpass it says to check their instagram for flavors since they rotate but when i went on their ig it wasn't updated and i just guessed. it was kind of cold and i wish that it was warmed up when i picked it up or something idk but either way it was really tasty and chewy and yummy however, the place is honestly kind of far. it's more than a 20 min walk from where i live and i live near campus. it's not near a lot of food places. it's across the street from berkeley bowl and if you drive here there's street parking on a busy street. i didn't love the thai tea but it was okay. it comes in a plastic can which is unique overall everything was good but i just wish it was a lot closer to telegraph and durant where most food places are. it would've definitely been a hit spot for students if the location was better. if anything though i would definitely have it more advertised and advertise the hot dogs more because it was probably the best tasting thing. i will definitely will come again. love it and can't wait to try more flavors of doughnuts and teas read more

Points for being different! Liked the chewiness and that it's something new. It was not great but it was perfectly edible and I would go again. We tasted three flavors and enjoyed the Cookies N' Cream the most. The part where it struggled was that all of the donuts really just tasted like sweet. They had no real flavor. Also, having somebody at the counter would be nice, even if it is self service. I dunno- I understand why there isn't a worker and at the same time I think it would help. read more
