I used to live 1/2 a block away from this gas station about 25 yrs ago. It has changed brands at least 3 times. It was Alaska, then Valero, now its ExxonMobil. It's located at the 5-way intersection at Encinal Ave, Central Ave, and Sherman Street . It tends to have the lowest gas prices in Alameda. So why not buy gas here all the time? Because it closes too early, and it's closed on Sunday. They close at 4pm on Saturday. I stopped here today because it was open and I carry an ExxonMobil gas card. If I didn't have an Exxon card, I would keep going. It's an OK gas station. read more

Date: 6/29/2017 Time: 5:12 PM 66° Sunny My husband and I stopped in at this Mobil gas station because their regular gas is $2.79.9 a gallon. That price is probably the cheapest in town about right now compared to Safeway, Aisle 1 (Nob Hill), the ARCO AM/PM on the corner of Encinal & Park and the three gas stations on Webster Street (Shell, Circle K/Union 76 and Chevron). The guy running the gas station was friendly. He and I struck up a conversation about Stephen Curry and the Golden States Warriors, which was cool. He even showed me a photo of #30 Curry with one of the employees. I noticed the signage overhead has Wednesday as customer appreciation day and the gas price is the lowest during the week. Well, I guess I am a day late, but not a dollar short to take advantage of this special. This gas station has an ATM, which could either be good or bad. Good when one is short on cash, but bad to be charged a service fee by one's bank. They also have a service department to deal with certain auto needs. The one drawback of this gas station is their operating hours. This gas station is located in a residential district. Thus, they close at 6 PM on weekdays, at 4 PM on Saturdays and not opened on Sundays. Since we had a little more than a quarter of a tank of gas left, we pulled in and paid $20 to fill 'er up. KC the Manager of Alameda Gas Station is not only a true gentleman but also is the embodiment of outstanding customer service. On September 19th, I had picked up two nails in one of the right rear tires on my SVU. I am not an Alameda resident. I was traveling to San Jose and had an appointment in Alameda. As I was running late, I took care of my appointment first and then looked for a tire shop to repair my tire so I could proceed to San Jose. Unfortunately, both were closed at 4:30 PM. I then stopped at two other gas stations who could not assist me. I pulled into Alameda Gas Station just as KC was locking up at 5:00 PM. He not only put air into all my tires, but also assisted in locating a tire shop for me that could repair the puncture in my tire. He was gracious, pleasant and understood my anxiety as a senior person traveling alone and requiring assistance. My road-service had advised me that it would be at least an hour wait since I was not on the freeway, and it was rush hour. Although I had to cancel my San Jose appointment, if it had not been for Mr. KC I am not sure how late it I would have been before I was able to return home that evening. I will also be grateful for his assistance and will prefer his shop over other when I am in Alameda. He is truly an example of a small-town-community business. I've only gotten gas here a few times. The gentleman that runs / owns the place was extremely helpful. I needed some air and gasl, and he said not to worry about getting gas first since there was an open spot in front of the air machine, and he turned it on for me. Such a contrast to the awful experience (which resulted in my first ever negative gas station review) for the Shell on 1601 Webster. This place is clean, gets a lot of residents filling up, and the owner / manager is extremely professional. Will be back. read more

Have gone to different gas stations all over Alameda and this place is the only one that I'm aware of that allows paying for your fuel via an app and all you need to do is pump. Also been coming here for our smog checks and all our cars have never had issues passing. Peter and Sunny are great and are cool to talk to. Will keep coming here for a long time to come! read more

Apparently they close at 4PM (?!) We went on a Saturday at 4:21PM, and my boyfriend's car was on empty. Considering it's the only gas station in this primarily residential area of Alameda, we were bummed when only $0.20 of gas was dispersed. Then the attendant came out and said "did any gas come out? Because we close at 4." What type of gas station, that accepts credit/debit cards, closes in the afternoon? Human interaction isn't necessary. Feel free to close the store. But shutting down the pumps?! At least put the strange hours up on a big banner or something. Bizarre. read more

How do you review a gas station? This one doesn't have any food, so the hotdog standard is nil. They never run out of gas and they are located in awesome location...right where Central splits off from Encinal. I wish they had longer hours, but then again it's Alameda, and by law I believe it's lights out when the street lights come on. 5 stars once they get a few stale hotdogs to munch on. read more

My dad came in to get his truck looked at, after hearing some unusual rumbling under the front hood. Peter, one of the repairmen, popped the hood and looked at the engine. After his "evaluation," he told told my dad to leave the truck there for a week so he can fix the engine. He also told me dad it was going to cost a couple thousand dollars. Fortunately my dad didn't call his bluff and went for a second opinion at a repair shop on Park street. It turned out the issue was a loose spark plug and the problem was fixed for $30. Based on that experience, I want to show how possibly selfish, uneducated, and despicable an auto service/repair shop like this one inside Valero can be. Avoid Peter and this filthy place. read more

4.5 star average total? Nope, that wasn't my experience. So the one & only time I came in recently (to get some free air for a low tire), the man (Asian? Middle Eastern? I'm not sure) behind the counter was SO rude that I will never, ever, ever return to this gas station. It's funny, I live right by this place and by chance have never stopped here for anything, but now I know I never will, either. To the proprietors of this Valero Station: Don't hire unprofessional, obnoxious, d*ckheads to work at your store because chances are: It's only a matter of time before you go out of business because of 'em. The location is great and I love their "customer appreciation Wednesdays." The gas prices are pretty decent on Wednesdays but I can usually get a few cents more off the gallon at the ARCO am/pm on Park and Encinal. Not a fan that they close relatively early. Most times when I drive past them coming home from work, they're already closed! Granted, I do leave work later than most people; but still. read more

Petrol is petrol is petrol is petrol... but getting it at a discount is always good! Valero at the triangular junction of Sherman @ Encinal @ Central in Alameda, has really cheap-er prices of petrol, on Wednesdays. Only on Wednesdays. On other days, it's normal price. Also, if you have a Valero Petrol Charge Card, they actually even give you a bigger discount daily as well as a better discount on the Discount Wednesday deals! It's not a full service petrol station, as it's kinda in the middle of a residential area, but they do some light things, and I believe Smog check certification. The pumps are not open too late, either.... You have to be a little careful when going to this petrol station as the layout is surrounded on 2 sides by 2 busy streets and people can enter from either side at any time, so please do keep this in mind. And to the people who think the people working behind the desk are rude and/or obnoxious, well, maybe crap happens.... so ignore them... just use your credit/debit card at the pump so you can avoid and don't have to see them. Just pay, pump, and go! You want the discount, do don't you? :) read more

Now a mobil station. I purchased a $50 CASH gift card online for $49.50. Went to use the card AND THEY CHARGE AN EXTRA 10 CENTS PER GALLON FOR ALL CARDS! I understand credit cards impose a 3% fee to companies but this is a CASH card! I explained to them that this isn't a credit card/debit card and they said they charge the same for all cards. What's the point of buying a slightly discounted card if I'm going to be charged an extra $2.50 for using it? Called Exxon/Mobil and they said their stations could do as they please. Horrible I went to Valeros to get my tire fixed that was losing air. After being ignored for more than ten minutes a man named Peter told me that he couldn't help me and to go to Big O. I told him I was willing to make an appointment. He told me to come back next day at 9:30 AM, I was there on time, did not see Peter and someone told me to leave the car that they would call me. By late afternoon I walked there, Peter came over and in a loud voice told me that I had not left the tool to change the tire with him, I told him I was sure it was in the trunk, the trunk was empty and the tool was there. Peter told me to go to Big O that he did not want to do it. I don't know if he treats male customers like that but they are very abusive towards women. I can't recommend that business to anyone. Twice in past six months have I filled up my motorcycle here, and each time, the gas had been so bad that the bike runs horribly. The first time it happened I couldn't be sure it had to do with their gas because I just "topped off" the tank. But the other day I went in there with a near-empty tank and now I'm lucky to even be able to get the bike started, or even drive away from a stop. But, in the interest of fairness, I decided to run the bike for about an hour to partially drain down the tank. It ran horribly the entire time, but I had to burn it off. Then I stopped at a different gas station and put a half gallon in. Sure enough, within a few blocks the bike started working a bit better. It's still nowhere near normal, but I'm connived now that they must have water leaking into their ground tank or something. (For what it's worth, each time I used the pump nearest the office and street on the Central side of the station. In another incident, I took my car to have a slow leak fixed. After having the car a day, I was told there was no leak. I asked the guy if they'd done a water bubble test, but he didn't seem to know what I meant. Another mechanic explained it to him, and he said he hadn't done that. Another day later, my leak was fixed. Good help is tough to find, I suppose. Either of these issues I could deal with, but both of them sort of show me a trend toward quality control. read more

I actually don't really write reviews often but the thing that I want to highlight is the, "customer appreciation Wednesdays." Although people will say that you can get cheaper gas at arco/ampm, they do not accept credit card and charge you a fee for using your debit card which most places usually waive it. I personally drive by Valero everyday during the summer for classes at collage of alameda and I always seemed to not need gas on a Wednesday until today. I was disappointed the station is kind of old and the convenience store is lacking but the gas prices were great and was able to fill up my tank which is about 14 gallons for only $55. read more

It's hard to write a review of a gas station, but this is my favorite on the Island. I'll list some reasons why I like it. One thing I like about spending time in Alameda is it's small town, non-corporate feel. I guess I'm old fashioned, but I don't like to buy my gas at a combination TacoBell/Pizza Hut/Baskin Robins/Dunkin Donuts that has TV's playing commercials on every pump. Valero is a refreshing simple and easy place to just fill up your vehicle. Due to their layout on a "V" shaped intersection, there's never a traffic jam situation here. It's easy to pull your car/bike in and out. (watch the traffic when you pull onto the street though!) They don't find it weird that I want to top off the tank of my bike and pay cash afterward. They have a conveniently located air pump that is free to use. This is a big deal for me because I check and adjust the air pressure on my bike every time I fill up. Also, I haven't experienced any of the negatives that were mentioned by others, but I've only been coming here since 2013 so maybe they've been fixed. I haven't noticed any issues with bad gas when filling my bike here. The older man at the register does occasionally have difficulty understanding what I'm saying, (I think he's a little hard of hearing, or it's an ESL issue), but he's never been rude at all and is completely professional.
