I went looking for hot dogs and found an awesome little Mexican joint with the best sopes, period…read more Pros: The sopes. I don't know whether they consider their sopes a specialty of theirs, but I was impressed. I had pork and my wife had chicken. We both had black beans on our sopes - an excellent decision. The sopes came drizzled with an avocado salsa. I am not a fan of avocado, but I loved this salsa. 'Nuff said. They also offered tomatillo and peanut salsas. (Consider yourself warned if you have a serious peanut allergy.) I enjoyed both. The peanut salsa was thinner than most Thai peanut sauces and of course the flavor was Mexican, not Thai. My sope didn't need the peanut salsa, but you have to try it anyway. By the way, there are other items on the menu besides sopes. I had an asada taco heaped with meat. (Winner.) They also have their so-called "secret" menu on bright video screens and do burritos that can also be served as bowls. I saw chilaquiles on the menu board as well. In other words, it's not really about the sopes. But those were pretty dang good. Cons: The plastic cutlery. The forks were wimpy. That's it for the cons that I found. But it is a con when trying to eat a sope with a fork and knife. Trust me. Notes: By "joint", I mean a place where you order and pay at the counter and bus your own table. Don't expect fancy. Our food was not truly mild, but my wife (who sadly can't do the heat anymore) was able to tolerate the spice level. Recommendation: If you haven't figured out yet that you need to try this place (unless you have a hard-core peanut allergy, of course), there is no hope for you. Lol.

You can eat inside there or there's a shaded outside eating area between the bar and the food cart. I went with the Slangers Style burger, which comes with white cheddar, smoked Oaxaca cheese sauce, Slangers Sauce and fried pickled red onion. I got mine with two patties. This burger was unctuously rich and super saucy. I think, for me, two patties was a bit much. I removed one of the patties and the flavors of all the components came through a bit more pronounced and balanced. So, I would stick with one patty on my next visit. Because I dislike wasting food, I also ate the extra patty by itself, and it was great and well-seasoned. The fries were delicious as well: hearty with bits of potatoes skin and fried to a perfect crispness. I will absolutely be back as this is one of the best burgers I've had in Salem!

My burger was juicy and the fries packed half the bag. The only downside was the grease soaking into the bag. It was a bit much and I didn't want to get a stain in my car, so they were tossed and wasted. Perhaps if they had a boat to catch them it wouldn't be so messy. Other than that, there were large bins of peanuts, but no real explanation - so, are you supposed to eat them? Seemed odd to not have a sign or be told about them. I know I've been to other restaurants where they offer them & patrons throw the shells on the floor but I didn't see anyone eating them. I guess I'll ask next time if I go back. Maybe they can double bag the fries, I dunno.

I reached out to them on Instagram and they informed me that the Riverview location wasn't getting enough business and unfortunately had to close :( in hindsight, their lack of business was probably a result of the constantly inconsistent hours that other reviewers have mentioned.
