I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to try Five Guys, but I was pleasantly surprised. More than just a fast food chain, they have a well organized operation. My burger was juicy and the fries packed half the bag. The only downside was the grease soaking into the bag. It was a bit much and I didn't want to get a stain in my car, so they were tossed and wasted. Perhaps if they had a boat to catch them it wouldn't be so messy. Other than that, there were large bins of peanuts, but no real explanation - so, are you supposed to eat them? Seemed odd to not have a sign or be told about them. I know I've been to other restaurants where they offer them & patrons throw the shells on the floor but I didn't see anyone eating them. I guess I'll ask next time if I go back. So I've been on a health kick lately and not eating bad. Well today was my hard earned cheat day. What made it even better I had a gift card. I was craving a big juicy burger and this hit the spot. I came here on a Sunday early afternoon. It was dead inside. And surprisingly cold. I ended up with a bacon cheeseburger and little Cajun fries. I got my burger all the way and added jalapeños. First time trying 5 guys and I will be back many more times. The burger was so good, even though I had to was a 25 min drive home. I got it with everything on it and it tasted so fresh and well seasoned. Nothing was overdone. I'm glad they let me know the sizing because I couldn't finish the small! The cashier was very informative about everything and let me know everything without feeling stupid. The lobby was clean and didn't feel like I wasn't welcome to sit and eat if I wanted to. I lived in Virginia for a few years. The outdoor shops and the indoor shops would sell you a pulled pork sandwich, which was incredibly wonderful. The problem was always the service. No matter where I went in Virginia. It was the same two people slapping stuff behind a bun, with no regard to how to lay it out or present it. Their faces were always the same just bored out of their heads. The same thing seems to be happening with five guys. Presentation is horrible. The burgers just look like it's almost mix in the blender. It taste good, but good God take another minute out of your whole day and make it look nice like you care about the food. read more

Stop by the Lancaster store. Got 2 bacon cheese burgers and regular fry. The person on fry duty put the burgers in the bag and my cup of fries then scooped up more frys and just dumped them in my bag. By time I got home, 3 miles, the grease soaked thru the bag and when I picked up the bag it fell apart losing fries and grease in my car. The burgers were soggy and not appetizing at all. I am on a low carb diet, and they made me a protein style burger, but it just didn't stop at lettuce, tomatoe and onion, they add jalepeńos, sauteed mushrooms, lots of pickles, and bacon. I don't know if it was that I was simply starving, or that I was so excited to try 5 guys, but it was really delicious. My son had the cheeseburger with the works, and loved every bite of it. This is not a place I come to often at all but I passed by it all the time. They remind me of a California burger joint called (In N Out). Came here for a quick lunch with my wife, place is pretty clean, well organized with plenty of seating and the food is actually pretty darn good. We had a Little bacon cheeseburger each with a cheese dog and some fries. Both the burgers and the hotdogs were surprisingly delicious. Five Guys are my go - to fast food burger place. The fries are made from fresh potatoes on site, the burgers cooked to order with a great selection of toppings to choose from - included in the price of the burger. There are complimentary peanuts to munch on while you wait a few minutes for your order. I've been about a dozen and a half times and the employees are consistently polite, attentive and really nice. The happiest employees in fast food I've ever seen by a long shot. It's a tremendous value. You get absolutely delicious burgers just the way you like and homemade fries for about what you'd pay at Burger King etc but it's sooo much better. There is no drive thru, but who cares. The arrival of Five Guys in Salem is huge in the fast food scene and throws an immediate hat in the ring for a best burger contention for a city with so many lackluster options burger wise. There is still some initial shock for me, but their burgers make it easy to get behind the initiative. The burgers are definitely on par with other Five Guys I've had in other cities, notably NYC, various spots in Cali, and Las Vegas. Each burger was visually unappealing - messy from top to bottom, sloppily assembled, and unapologetically greasy. And yet, every bite was as tasty as the next. It's easy to love eating something this nasty, especially when nursing a hangover. The fries aren't nearly as grand. Also bearing a drippage of greasy uneasiness, these potatoes were a tad too salty for enjoyment. Burgers and fries go hand in hand, but in terms of quality and taste, it wasn't a fast food match in fatty heaven. Five Guys has already been around for the last few years and has amassed a loyal following of burger loving enthusiasts. Another place we visited on our Oregon trip in mid-July. The burgers here are very good; like that you can add all of the fixings (grilled onions, mushrooms, tomatos, pickles, etc...) at no additional cost. The smaller burger is enough for one person; the regular burger comes with two patties, but costs an extra $2+. Fries are great with the the skin on. We always order the small size, as it is their policy to add another scoop of fries into the bag; more than enough for two or more to eat. And while you wait for your burgers (as they are cooked on order), you can help yourselves to their complimentary shelled peanuts. This place is also has great service; people always smiling. * And for another note for my fellow Kamaaina (Hawaii residents) like me; it is much cheaper here than in HI. The new Hawaii Mililani location prices are an average of $2+ higher than here in OR, plus no sales tax! :) read more

On Black Friday my wife and I had finished shopping for the youngsters and needed a bite to eat. Yelp! pointed me into Five Guys' direction. A huge burger sounded great. When my wife and I got there, I was shocked at how cool this little place was. A spot that specializes in burgers and fries...how awesome! The inside was nice, had a red and white scheme with about 6,000 pounds of bagged spuds neatly stacked. There was just the right amount of seating for the people there, the staff was VERY friendly and courteous. Gentleman at the counter asked if we had been there before, once we said, "no" he explained the difference between what burgers they do and how the toppings worked...all with a smile. Something else I loved....the open kitchen. You can see right into the kitchen and see the food being made. That was really nice. Just gave you a good feel SEEING what was going on when 99% of the time you can't. My burger was great (pictures will be up soon). Absolutely a filling, tasty, satisfying burger. I ate a double bacon cheese burger with all the toppings and some A-1 for a "why the hell not moment." Got a side of Cajun fries which had a bite of spiciness that was really great and complimented the burger well. Great prices and great food. Coming here yesterday assured me that No longer going to my usual local burger spot was a good idea. Every employee that came in contact with us was patient and friendly. Even though there were several people ahead of us, the food came out quickly, in less than 10 minutes. They had lots of people working on the food that looked like they were working hard and quick. Very much in the way of excellent burgers here. The regular is two patties, apparently because they wanted to have all their burgers well done, but not burnt on the outside, so it was easier to do two little patties instead of one big one. Fun fact. But you get them exactly how you want them...all the toppings are up for grabs, including more esoteric ones. You can design what you want and by god that's exactly what you'll get. They always post up where and from what farm their potatoes come for the fries, but honestly, these are not the type of fries I prefer. I like my thin and crispy, and these are droopy and oily. But hey, it's a style...just not my style. The burgers themselves more than make up for it. And peanuts are everywhere, so if you're allergic, sorry, but stay out. Sad face. read more

The burgers were dripping grease and were not warm enough to melt the cheese, they would not stay together while being eaten, the flavor was very bland as if no seasonings were used during cooking. If I could rate this place a zero star I would.. I ordered my food over the phone for take out at 6:38pm. The gentleman on the phone told me it would be ready in approximately 15-20 minutes or so. I arrived and parked the car at 7:00pm and paid for my food at 7:08pm. I thought my order was prepared and ready for pick up given the fact that the cashier announced I was there and the kitchen crew also announced I was there. No one attended to me while I waited from 7:08-7:29. Almost a whole hour from placing the order to receiving my order. On top of that they missed my milk shakes and I had to wait an extra 5 min for it to be done. So all in all the ordering process and picking up my food took roughly an hour. I had watched 5 orders go before me when I was there. There was a female staff member that made a milk shake and just went to the back of the house maybe she was on a break but no one even mentioned or checked on me to let me know why it was taking so long. I had to ask a crew member and that is what was upsetting. And then when I had asked what happened they said they missed another customers fry order so mine took longer. They did acknowledge that it was there fault but only offered to make a milk shake to comp the wait time. I was not going to just up and leave after I had already placed my food order and my kids were waiting at home for their food I ordered. Luckily my family said their food was good but given the EXPERIENCE I had I will not order from this establishment nor will I refer this place to anyone ever again. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE DUE TO THEIR LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

They've captured the kind of burger building experience I've wished for after picking up burgers from less tasty establishments.
