I ordered the Rainbow rolls & Spicy Yellowtail rolls, the Spicy Yellowtail were so loose and poorly rolled that they fell apart instantly. It was clear the chef did not use a bamboo mat. The rest of the Sashimi Platter was incredibly average (thin Salmon) and definitely not worth the premium price. Service was also lacking. Despite only three tables being occupied, the waiters were inattentive and I had to ask for water refills. You can definitely find similar or better sushi elsewhere for a better price. read more

an outstanding uni shooter, a well-balanced pasta, but an oyster dish that did not work Miyabi Uni offers a fun and highly specialized uni experience, although the dishes were not equally successful. The Uni Shooter was easily the highlight for me. Since it is consumed in one bite, the flavors arrive almost like a sudden burst. The vinegar-based tosazu sauce hits first with a sharp, energetic acidity. Then the quail egg yolk comes in and softens the vinegar while blending with the creamy uni, making the entire flavor become rounder and more harmonious. The contrast between the initial acidic impact and the gentle richness that follows was extremely well designed. It was memorable and very enjoyable. The Uni Oyster was much less successful. Both the oyster and the fish roe already have strong, assertive flavors. Together, they create an effective duet: the oyster provides the deep briny foundation, while each roe bead bursts and repeatedly adds small waves of salinity and texture. Unfortunately, the uni was too delicate to compete with either of them. Its flavor was almost completely lost. Instead of improving the oyster, the uni felt as though it had been added simply because this is a uni-focused restaurant. In my opinion, the dish would actually have been more coherent without it. The Uni Pasta was good. It was creamy, rich, and full-flavored, with enough uni character to make the dish satisfying. The portion was also very well judged. Rich uni pasta can easily become tiring, but this serving ended at exactly the right moment--just as I was beginning to feel that another few bites might become too heavy. Overall, the Uni Shooter was excellent and worth ordering. The pasta was enjoyable and well portioned. The oyster dish, however, needed better balance because the uni was overwhelmed by the much stronger oyster and roe. Spoiler alert: everything had uni in it from pasta to chirashi bowls to sushi to carpaccio. So go for whatever your heart desires here. The tonkatsu was a little dry but acted as a nice filler/break from all the uni. Still, you might be better off just getting another pasta instead. Ordered the uni oysters ($18.95 for two) and the Miyabi signature uni pasta ($33.95). The uni oysters were beautifully-presented, even had caviar and gold leaf dust on top! Taste-wise, they were really good: briny, creamy, and slightly sweet. Highly recommend getting this! Uni pasta was tasty as well: decent portions with al-dente spaghetti and flavorful garlic sauce. Decent amount of uni on top; the uni was also slightly torched, which brought out a smoky-sweet taste which I enjoyed. We had the Premium Uni Cream Pasta, the squid, and the Premium Sashimi platter. The sashimi was fresh but not much. The pasta tasted fine but we had higher expectations. It wasn't bad. For some reason we expected it to blow our minds and it didn't. Not the fault of the chef by no means whatsoever. The squid was basic. The place has indoor and outdoor seating, so you have options. However, it can get really cold in there. Also, if they windows are open, you will hear the music from the other restaurant across the way. The staff was great. It was nice to see that the wait staff were Japanese and I thought the chefs were too, but then I heard them speaking Spanish. They had karaage octopus tentacles also for happy hour and they were delicious, but for $6.50, you only got 6 small pieces. We opted for the pasta upgrade and it was as good as the memories. I highly recommend the upgrade.. the uni was fantastic.. and they also did a great job on the pasta. The Santa Barbara uni was a little bitter compared to the Hokkaido uni - sad but not end of the world. The only item we didn't care much for was the wagyu rolls. I've been here previously in 2022 and took a major detour on my road trip just to come back this year! I came here planning to order the premium uni cream pasta, but I was pleasantly surprised to see an omakase option that included it as an upgrade as well. Of course, I had to try everything else the omakase offered! But first of all, the premium uni cream pasta is just something I highly recommend. The uni flavor is everywhere in the sauce and not like most places where it's normal cream and they slap on a single piece of uni on top. They also don't slack off on the quality of the pasta and it tasted fresh and bouncy. Absolutely worth every penny. Some notable comments on the omakase: - The uni shooter came in a spoon instead of a shot glass. Strange they named it a shooter, and I couldn't mix it before slurping it. But the uni flavor wasn't masked at all by the other ingredients and it tasted great. - I wasn't really a fan of the US wagyu beef roll. The balsamic flavor was just way too strong and masked all the good stuff - I just loved how almost everything had some uni in it, but not all the uni was good quality. There were at least a few slightly bitter pieces - I was already feeling crazy full by the time I finished the uni cream pasta. Don't worry about leaving here hungry - As we finished more and more dishes, the table started getting a bit dirty, but the server never bothered to wipe things down. I called them for a reservation for a work dinner, changed the time to be earlier because everyone was hungry, and then we were late because of traffic.... and they were still very accommodating when we arrived. I also miscounted the amount of people coming, and they quickly got more tables to accommodate us. The food quality was great, I personally had the Miyabi Kaisen large size. It was a great portion of fish and rice, and the quality of fish/uni was even better than I expected. No fishy smells or rubbery texture as everything melted in my mouth. Other people from the table had the salad topped with sashimi, tonkatsu, sashimi platter, veggie tempura, and everyone also enjoyed their food. We had one person with us who was not a fan of sushi and is normally a picky eater, but he loved everything except one piece of fish! So that was definitely a great accomplishment. There's a free underground parking that was pretty empty on a Saturday. At first, I thought I was pulling in to a parking spot for an apartment building as I did not see any signage for the establishments. Walked upstairs and you will see the restaurant on the left. Make sure you take note of their lunch time as they close at 2pm and then re-open for dinner service around 5pm. Last call is at 1:30pm. Sat down to an almost empty restaurant. Not sure if it's because we rolled in on a Saturday around 1pm or if this is normal for the weekend. In fact, there was not a lot of foot traffic here or the Mexican restaurant next door. We ordered the tuna roll with uni, uni tomagoyaki, premium uni cream pasta & pescatore pasta. The food didn't take long to come to us and rightfully so, because there was one table that was pretty much done and 2 people that walked in after us. The tomagoyaki was fluffy and had a hint of sweetness to it. It's not the usual savory American omelette you get. The uni did have a hint of fishiness to it, but not off putting enough that it was not enjoyable. The soy dipping sauce helped with the fishy taste. Definitely a lower grade uni if I'm being honest. The tuna roll, however, was very tasty. You can taste the freshness of the tuna and it was very tender. The uni flavor was better on this dish. I really liked the combination of wasabi, soy and chili pepper in this dish. It wasn't spicy at all. The pescatore was on the salty side and the tomato or marinara sauce tasted like it came out of a can or jar. Did not taste like it was freshly made. It was too salty and didn't really have good flavor to it. The fish scallops and squid was a little over cooked as they were dried and chewy. I'm am so glad that the server talked me out of upgrading it with uni. That would have been a wasted $15. The premium uni pasta was actually very tasty. If you come here for one thing, I would recommend this dish. The pasta is very creamy and you can taste the truffle in the sauce. The pasta did have a weird texture to it. Not sure if it's store bought also or if it's their own pasta recipe. It did not have an Italian taste/texture to it. This dish did have a lot of sauce and they place about 5-6 pieces of Hokkaido uni on top. You can definitely taste the quality of this uni and this dish was about $50. I think the uni itself is like $20 worth if you purchased it outside. Be careful when ordering any of the pasta dishes as the server will ask if you wanted bread with your meal. It's an extra $2 for the bread if you were wondering. It's right there on the menu, but somehow, I missed it. Luckily my wife saw it, so I declined. Nothing about this place will make me want to come back or drive an hour to dine here again. Even if I'm in the area, I would probably skip it. I was slightly less impressed by the uni cream pasta - it was just ok but I felt the uni pasta at Spoon House Bakery in Gardena is better. For course four if I could do it over I would have chosen the American Wagyu instead of the grilled miso cod since I've had better versions elsewhere - perhaps plating the cod with a small bite or two of rice may have made it stand out more. The green tea tiramisu dessert was the perfect way to finish off this very filling Omakase. We ordered the uni garlic canapé and honestly I thought the uni would be mixed with the garlic butter but it was just a piece of toast, some (garlic?) butter, uni on top then a fried garlic on top? Not too creative. Uni was a bit fishy though. My friend and I both ordered the uni scallop salmon & roe bowl (small). It's like 65% rice and 35% fish. Two slices of salmon, 2 slices of scallops, 2 slices of tamago, uni and salmon roe. I was hoping for more scallop pieces and was a bit disappointed. If you want more fish, get the large but the ratio probably isn't gonna be any better. Salmon wasn't too bad. Scallop wasn't that sweet. Some uni pieces were better than others but it wasn't amazing? I've had better uni elsewhere. I'm not sure if coming for lunch makes a difference vs coming for dinner. Definitely a splurge lunch for just okay seafood. Friday night. Hopes were high. Hunger was real. We braved the traffic jungle with dreams of buttery uni pasta... only to discover it was more "meh" than memorable. We took a heroic first bite and immediately burned our tongues. The real twist? It wasn't even crispy. Still tasty-ish, but definitely not the crunchy reward we imagined. Nigiri arrived at the exact same time, which felt like a plot twist no one asked for. That said, it was fresh and well-prepared--just priced like it had backstage passes to a Beyoncé concert. Huge shoutout to our server, who was super sweet and gave us a solid heads-up about the spicy yellowtail roll. We ordered level 3 out of 5 thinking, "We got this." We did not got this. It lit up our mouths and took the rest of the meal hostage. And I say that as someone who adds hot sauce to cereal. Then came the parking--a subterranean saga. It's basically five levels under the Earth's crust, with zero cell service and mild existential dread. Getting out was a side quest we didn't know we signed up for. You can definitely see the quality difference between their house uni and their premier Santa Barbara uni. I highly recommend the Santa Barbara uni; it's so much better. However, the premium uni cream pasta was not worth the price. The uni on top of the premium cream pasta was delicious, but the sauce was tangy/bitter. To be honest, it tasted like they mixed premium uni and their house uni in the sauce, hoping that the customers would not notice the difference. I would not recommend getting wine at this establishment. I ordered red wine. At the end of the drink, sediments with a sandy texture were present. I picked at it and scooped out a bug like a fruit fly. Honestly, the server was apologetic, took the bill off, and explained what could have happened, but also explained that they mixed old wine and new wine together. We had several dishes, including uni cream pasta, Miyabi kaisen (sashimi don), uni shooters, Miyabi roll (uni, scallop, and salmon roll), and hamachi Kama (fish collar).
