Texas Nachos
Riley M.

Great spot for a quick meal. Love that they have a kiosk to order and includes a rewards program. Service is quick, maybe waited 5-7 minutes around dinner time. The food itself was great and just what I was looking for in a nacho platter, perfect portion and didn't skimp on the toppings! Little pricey at $16 but I suppose I would've paid that at a sit down restaurant as well.

Fried taco meal with a side of rice

Stopped by here after a concert around the corner. Service was good and the food was solid. Everyone I was with seemed happy with their meals, so no complaints there. That said, the ambiance just isn't really my vibe, so I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back. But if you're nearby and looking for a decent place to eat, it definitely gets the job done.

Birthday lunch spicy and lots of chicken and bacon It's my first choice on a short lunch break but with full of flavor.

Let's begin by saying this meal was better than any Mexican meal I've eaten in Milwaukee. I know that's a fairly low bar, but after 7 years there I really needed some well made Mexican late night fare. I had a veggie burrito that was really delicious. Fresh, well prepared, and savory. I also downed a bag of tortilla chips and queso. So, in less than 30 minutes I was able to eat all the calories for the whole weekend. And, I don't regret a thing. The place is similar to fast-food joint but with more kindness and atmosphere. If I lived in Chicago, this would be a great go-to spot every once in awhile.

Build Your Bowl. I ordered cilantro, corn, lettuce, tomatoes, and white rice. The main topping includes tofu.

On a Tuesday evening, we wanted to make an evening of Taco Tuesday. We immediately thought of Mixteco Mexican Grill. For my order, I decided on "Build Your Own Bowl". With this bowl I chose tofu, white rice, green tomatillo, salsa, chipotle aioli, jack cheddar cheese, lettuce, cold slaw, cilantro, tomatoes, and corn. It tasted heavenly. Joseph ordered the chips and one vegetarian burrito. He said it tasted fine. I give the service an A. The staff works together quickly. Even though customers could eat at Mixteco Mexican Grill, the ambiance felt casual and relaxed. When customers come in, they can go to a kiosk and place their orders with the kitchen staff. Located near the Belmont train station, take the Red, Brown or Purple lines. Come to Mixteco Mexican Grill. Bring friends, family and even a date.

Where's the rice?

This place used to be one of our favorites in the neighborhood, but I don't know if it's new employees or new management but it's going downhill and not worth it anymore. 1. I don't know if their air conditioning is broken or what, but it is uncomfortably hot in there. The ceiling fans are BARELY blowing which makes me worry about the temperature of the food in the "kitchen". 2.. Ordering a bowl (with rice) used to be something to look forward to. They charge $16 for a surf and turf bowl and now with BARELY any rice!!!!! $16 and you give like 3 grains of rice. Before we used to be able to see the rice in the bowl... now? nothing. 3. Why are you giving people to-go food in a bowl with a top that does not fit? Getting home and the bowl have food falling out of it? That is CRAZY! when I tell the girl at the counter she plays like an airhead and giggles saying "oh I don't order that stuff" so even if you don't order it LET MANAGEMENT KNOW ITS A PROBLEM. And she claims she has but I'm sure that's bs. I asked if a manager was there and she said "well we have one and he's not here". I'm not sure if she's just playing an airhead or really is one. Last time I came in a police officer was in there for clearly and investigation and the same airhead was acting like she doesn't know the managers name. You cannot have someone THAT incompetent being the person your customer interact with! And 4. we used to love ordering the soup as well. Two days in a row (because someone in our home is sick) we ordered the soup and the soup was not at all hot either day!! Before it used to come in a black container and been so nice and hot and good. Now it's $10 for a soup and there's BARELY any soup so $31 for all of this.. and customer service is horrible. There's no way that getting half portions should cost this much! And yes there are pictures to prove it. They used to be a good place, and we found it somewhat worth the money. But now? It's definitely not worth it at ALL!!

This was an upscale fast food place with counter service. The fried fish taco was amazing. The salsas were good and the carne asada and chicken tacos were fine - both definitely needed salsa. It is a good place to grab a taco if you are in the neighborhood, but not worth traveling if you have a closer taco place.

On our way to some bar hopping on Halsted, we saw this fast food Mexican restaurant and I got a craving for a burrito.... The restaurant menu is varied...with bowls, burritos, tacos, etc... The prices are very reasonable and the staff behind the counter was really nice and courteous. I got my Works Burrito and it was really good...not bad for a fast food joint !

Very under rated spot. Anyone who likes a burrito should check this place out. I went for lunch and was the only one there. The space is very clean and organized - nice spots to sit near the window and look out to the street. Service was very easy and quick - no table service so you just pick up food at the front and take it to your seat. Always a nice treat when the presentation of the food is good along with the taste!

Mixteco is my go-to place whenever I want to get quick delivery and I know will be tasty. I love getting the grilled chicken burrito because I can easily get two meals out of it if I order the meal or pair it with tortilla chips. Plus I love that it comes with avocado in the burrito and it isn't extra. I have also tried their quesadilla and I was easily able to get two solid meals from the dish without having to get a full meal. I prefer the burrito more but they tend to give a lot of rice so there has been times when the protein settles at the bottom so you don't get a good balance of ingredients. That is the one con of Mixteco Mexican Grill especially if you are paying extra for protein and the rice ratio is still high. The price of the food is pretty reasonable in comparison to what's around the restaurant. The quesadilla was probably the best bang for your buck if you are on a budget. Sometimes when I am feeling like a treat I order a side of churros which are fantastic. They are always fresh and come with a chocolate syrup dipping sauce which is addicting! I highly recommend Mixteco Mexican Grill if you don't have the time to have a sit down meal.

Sometimes, though, the plans that don't work out lead you exactly where you're supposed to be. And this turned out to be a blessing in disguise! The brunch menu was spot on. Everything we ordered was delicious and thoughtfully done, but the masa pancakes and ham steak were definitely the standouts. Both are a must-try! The only thing I wish they would change is the deviled eggs. I would have loved them even more if they were served traditionally rather than spicy. But that's just a personal preference. Maybe I should have asked. Overall, we had a really good experience. What started as our backup plan turned out to be a place we're glad we discovered. There are bar seating so we sat there. I love the vibe and atmosphere here, it is very welcoming, friendly and fun. We chatted it up with the bartender/wait staff and it was really friendly environment. I ordered the masa pancakes and the brisket hash. As for the food, I thought it was okay, nothing horrible but it didn't wow me either. The brisket hash didn't really have that much brisket in it, felt a little skimpy on the brisket. I did enjoy the potatoes that came with it, it was nice and crispy. The toast that came with it was also okay. As for the masa pancakes, this is definitely a large serving. This is my first time having something like this, it tasted different than traditional pancake. It was probably too much for me due to the serving size. I couldn't finish it, but I also don't think I'll return for this dish either. Overall, I love the atmosphere of this place but the food is just okay.

Definitely a great spot for the summer and apparently they have an incredible happy hour deal. We tried some chicken tacos and the mini bean burrito app. My dad also got some soup and other tacos. First of all, the service is excellent, and everyone is very kind and friendly. They seem to have really good drinks and reasonable prices. You have to get three tacos with beans and rice but honestly, it's worth it because the beans and rice taste super fresh and the tacos are well worth it. We also tried a cauliflower one, but it was really spicy so we weren't crazy about it. I saw our recommendation on TikTok to try the cheese and bean burritos and genuinely these were incredible??? It comes with four little burritos and they are just a little fluffy bites of goodness. I need to come back for the happy hour and get these again. Really a great place and it makes sense to me that they've been here since the 70s because I normally feel sick after eating Mexican food and since everything was so fresh, I felt great! Awesome chips too! I am coming back to try the churros

I thought to myself OK, no big deal. Hot food takes time. except that wasn't the case. The outer shell was warm because they grill it off on the flat top but the beans inside were barely room temperature. So I sit there for a while and no body comes around. I end up having to take the food inside and explain that the beans are "cold" not hot or even above warm.. The girl said ok no problem. 2 mins later she brings me back the same plate of food with the half eaten burrito still on the plate. She literally put the food in the microwave!! THE MICROWAVE!! I mean, is it really asking that much for four hot mini burritos not microwaved?!?!

We all had different types of tacos, so I can only really talk about mine. I had the taco dinner - three tacos - Asada, Carnitas, and Al Pastor. Everyone seems to rave about the tacos. I thought they were good, although I'm not sure, for the price, it was much better than any other Mexican restaurant. The steak, which had an extra cost, was just okay. The carnitas were good, and the Al Pastor was good, but not outstanding. The rice and beans were really outstanding and also a highlight of the meal. But, if fairness, good is still good. I plan to give this another try. I suspect if I order something different, given how good the service was, I'll be more pleased with the experience.
