This small restaurant serves sandwiches and smoothies. Which is perfect since they are near a gym. But even better, they serve Persian dishes. Everything input together fresh. Went here for dinner on a Sunday evening. I tried the $3.99 special which was one kabob, rice with saffron, a fresh salad and a small strip of lavash. It was delicious! The chicken was moist and the rice was perfectly cooked, plus they give you a little pack of sumac to put on the rice. It was well worth the price. The owner took my order and rang me up. He was friendly and accommodating and answered my questions regarding the food. The store was clean, though the decor was minimal. Still, it was comfortable enough that I would have eaten my meal there if I hadn't needed to get back home. I haven't tried any of the other menu items, though they all look delicious. Mitra's Cafe is a hidden gem! The food is made fresh to order, it's delicious, and reasonably priced. I highly suggest any of the sandwiches! Although my favorite item on the menu is the Greek Salad! The food itself is pretty decent! Flavor wise it is of some degree of quality that demands appreciation. But for a 13+ dollar entree at a small local place, for KEBABS, you'd expect the shrimp to not have their shells AND legs on them still, and the owner or more elderly counter worker didn't seem too pleased to be serving an excited customer in an otherwise very empty establishment. Other than the poor attitude and the wildly inexcusable lazy preparation, the food was pretty good. Oh! And my 13+ dollar shrimp entree didn't even include any pita. At least not in any amount that wasn't a slap to the face. I was given a very odd and unsatisfying small strip of pita that was shamefully hidden and tucked away between my fully unprepared yet well cooked shrimp and a bed of somewhat decent rice that was overall lacking in proper flavor for the dish it was masquerading as. The food was decent. As was a lamb shank I've had from here before, the lamb shank was actually rather flavorful and impressive, the MEAT. But the rice still lacked similar depth of flavor even then and I was given a weak little strip of pita then as well. And the shrimp being fully unprepared and thus seasoned only on the shells themselves resulted in them lacking some serious flavor once de-shelled, not to mention I shouldn't even have to do my own prep work on shrimp kebabs once I get home in the first place, especially not for the price of the meal. Good food, but a seemingly very lazy operation with little heart put into the business. Just decent recipes and seemingly quality ingredients prepared lazily and without much passion. Still better food than most places you'll find in the area, no doubt about it, hence me not being able to give any less than 3 stars. I'd of given this place 4 stars, but again, the rice needs work/more flavor, the prep needs to be less lazy with the shrimp, AND pita needs to be included, at least in a small respectable amount, or just not at all, but some disrespectful slap in the face little tease of a skinny strip of pita is absolutely shameful. And a smile and proper people skills and some enthusiasm at the front counter wouldn't hurt. Good spot overall tho, shouldn't be so empty. Having to de shell my own shrimp and order from a less than enthusiastic employee will absolutely not stop me from coming back here, tho I would be elated with some more flavor in the rice and I believe better people skills and more passion could make this place a lot more popular of a spot for takeout in this area! read more

Ordered the gyros plate and a piece of baklava. Waited 20 minutes and I was the only customer that hadn't already been served. Gyro wasn't "fresh" but rather premade uniform slices of some kind of meat that resembled turkey bacon. Flavor was mediocre. The basmati rice, hummus, tzaziki and "salsa" were delicious though. The baklava was weird. The filling was like pie crust mixed with cashews or something. Threw it out after first bite. Overall, it was a disappointing and rather pricey meal. FORMER EMPLOYEE from pretty recently. Not clean. Basic food health and cleaning procedures are NOT done properly. Mold on foods and dressings. The kitchen reeks of mold smell. Dishes are not sanitized just washed with soap and water. The fan in the fridge is coated in dust that blows on the kabob skewers and other open food in the fridge. The owner got mad at me for drying my hands with one time paper towels ( which is standard hand washing procedure ) and made me use a re-usable dirty rag that is used to clean up spills as well. Just look up the score they got on the food inspector website. Barely passed with an A. 1 point away from failing. ( do you know how many points you have to miss in order to get a low A ? ALOT. It's scary. ) he also got mad at me for trying to move the mats on the floor to sweep under them ( it was filthy under them so i was going to clean under them like one normally would. ) told me that we only sweep around the mats not under. The food is old. Who knows how old the salad dressing is. He has his employees " cut " the lettuce by ripping it with our hands. No gloves, doesnt really care about hand-washing. The list could go on. Overall the owner max is very nice. But i don't think he either understands or cares about health code standards and things like that. read more
