Love this place! The service is great - especially those behind the counter. They always great me with a smile :) They also take the time to explain what each dish is. Decor is nice and it's a nice place to go to with family or friends. I've had a few of the dishes here and really liked the food. They change up the menu time-to-time and offer specials. read more

Terrible service. Clearly overwhelmed and distracted staff. Food quality was inconsistent across dishes, and there is no organization or proper protocol for seating guests. First come first, so get ready for fight for a plate of food and a place to sit. read more

Food and customer service have gone terribly bad. They now serve stale take out orders. Ordered sandwich and badam milk which were both stale. Fries were burned and covered fully with black particles. Avoid this place if possible, not what it used to be. read more

Mithaas - Food for every mood!! - Indian Near Me - Edison, New Jersey

Food is not bad. It's okish, they can do better. We ordered paneer kathi roll, it was not great but edible. (5/10). Then we ordered Bombay griller sandwich it was not at all like it, no green chutney it in or with it the bread was not grilled (4/10). Then we ordered cholle bathura, it was good among other things, definitely can be done better (6/10). I would go to this place only if I have to eat chaat and all the other restaurants are closed. read more

This spot not only maintaining social distancing , great quality of food but also ensuring the great service quality.

Mithaas is to Indian food, what Donald Trump is to America! The food is mediocre at best. They thrive on the vast Indian population that goes here because they (the population) are either too lazy to go elsewhere and/or they don't know where else to go. They truly give you the experience of buying food in India. The people behind the counter are extremely rude to you, they don't care if people cut lines or argue, they don't manage orders efficiently, and they at times voluntarily ignore you for 20 mins staring at you in your face yet answering phone calls without pausing to take care of you. They do this unwillingly only so you can get to experience a slice of home! The workers don't seem to be happy, they seem to be burned out and almost desperate to get out. I think it's a cry for help. The workers here have it tougher than the pets you see on the ASPCA commercial! (PS: Like my review if you work here and I can try to contact the authorities to help you guys!) The men's bathroom exhaust vent is filled with dirt/dust and toilet paper roll is always a little wet; you know, in case you needed wet wipes. The trash can is always almost full and they even have the door lock imported from India. Again, they went through all this just to give you that nice, warm homey feeling. If I were a sanitary inspector I'd fail them for the conditions of their establishment but I'm guessing they struck a deal with the local inspector, just like how it is back home.. I wouldn't be surprised to see a plastic mug and pail soon. They have a paper towel dispenser per code. I mean the code doesn't say you need to refill the dispenser.. duh! Read between the lines!! Remember they go through all this hassle just to give us an experience of being home. So, me being ungrateful is like spitting on the food they serve, which I'm sure they will do the next time I go there. Also, if you're looking to get rid of your old chairs or couches (that are ripped/torn or breaking apart), remember they are still accepting them. They may even give you a tax deduction in the future for used/broken large screen TVs and Roku boxes. The one guy who seems to be working there for years looks like the manager and when he's there, he tries extremely hard to make this dump look like a McDonalds in a bad part of town but still fails miserably to do so. My verdict: Indian standards Food: 3 Service: 10 Ambience: 6 Score: 19/30 American Standards Food: Still a 3 or a hard 4 Service: -2 Ambience: 2 Score: 4/30 Having said that, I'd still go here because this is where I met my wife for the first time. It's sentimental value "trumps" everything. Get it? I also go here to cleanse myself whenever I'm over-appreciated at other restaurants and become an entitled prick just to humble my heart. Believe me folks, back then I'd have rated this place 20+. Unfortunately, I've traveled quite a bit and now this place seems below average. " we must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly, but always pursue solidarity." - Donald Trump (circa 2017) TLDR; The place is a hell hole. Avoid! Mithaas - Raj Kachori and Dahi Puri! - Indian Near Me - Edison, New Jersey

So this is based on my experience last night (11.18.17), and probably sums up my experience with them as a whole. Food is mediocre but service deserves negative stars. I went in around 5pm to order a quick bite to eat, stood on line for about 15 mins only to get to the register and be told that we needed to get a table number and come back again, wtf? I ended up walking out. You'd think that someone would say something if there's a line of 30 people. Same night a couple of hours later: went to Ming's next door for dinner and was craving something sweet so decided to give Mithaas another try. We were excited because no one was on line and thought we'd luck out this time. Nope. We were standing in front of the cashier ready to order and the guy behind kept taking food orders on the phone, which is fine I get it, but he didn't even acknowledge our existence, nor did he say that he would be with us shortly. And there were like 3 other people behind the counter not doing anything! We stood there for about 2-3 phone calls of his and just walked right out. Absolutely unacceptable and I probably won't be going again, unless there's an apocalypse and that's the only place left. read more

In an area with so many great Indian restaurants and solid chaat options, Mithaas sorely misses the mark. First off: if you come here on a weekend night (and really, just don't), expect overflowing crowds without any sense of order or cohesive flow. When we arrived, there were no tables available. Mithaas' idiotic system requires patrons to provide a table number when ordering, so we first had to wait ~30min. for a table, then another 30-40min. for our food. This is painfully inefficient; why not, as any other fast-casual restaurant does, give patrons an order number or buzzer so that they can wait for their food and a table at the same time? On top of that, the staff are abysmal: curt, disorganized, and incompetent. We watched our food, all prepared and ready to go, get cold behind the counter for 15 minutes while a member of the waitstaff snapped that it wasn't ours. Eventually, realizing his mistake, he gave it to us without so much as an apology for the delay or an acknowledgement of the error. There's no good reason that people should have to wait for their food when it's ready and sitting out in full open view! Dumb. For all the inconveniences, the food itself is subpar. The spice/flavor is entirely unremarkable; I've never had as unexciting a Chole Bhatura or Paapdi Chaat. There are so many better options on Oak Tree Road that are infinitely better, and minus the headache. Don't come here; you can definitely do better. Terrible setup, pathetic service, forgettable food. read more

See the food is great but for some reason they choose to play the music at loudest possible level. It's almost deafening. I would be glad if management would change that "only super loud music" policy. Cause the food is good but can't stand to eat here.. read more

Mithaas is a household name for any Indian in NJ. Part Mughal restaurant family, this place has been around for a long time with a standard menu offering Indian fast food including Chaat, quick meal Thaali's and Indian sweet and snacks. I have mostly frequented the branch in South Brunswick which is clean, offers relatively quick and good service and most of their dishes taste authentic and loaded with right seasoning and spices. Dining here is like eating Indian street food but in a nice ambience. This rating is primarily for the Edison location and to do with their cleanliness and Doklha flavor. It was overly sweet and served cold! When I asked about it they said they could warm it through, but it seemed an after thought. The place was a mess with water food cups strewn on the floor and the service was quite slow to clean up the mess. Just wasn't inviting enough despite the Mithaas Brand! read more

When it comes to chaat Mithaas is by far the best. Also their thaali and Missi roti are good. As compared to many other restaurants on Oak Tree Rd this has ample seating space and parking. Overall this is a good place with good food. read more

Food with average taste. Service is slow during weekends rush hours. Aloo papri chat - 3/5 Grilled panini sandwich- 3.5/5 Falafel- 1/5. It seems like something turned bad in the falafel mix so I let it go waste. Never ordering this item again. Chana Bhatura- 2/5. You get 2 jumbo size puri with a small cup of channa. With the quantity of channa you can barely finish one Bhatura and the other one goes waste. Mithaas should just give one Bhatura instead and lower down the item price. read more

This branch needs more customer service skills. Staff just seems to care more when you sit how fast you can get up so that they can clean the tables for the next customer. They don't pay attention to how your order is and what you want to order. Ordered a dish and the guy at the counter asked me which one I want even showing the types of choices in the menu. I then picked one and sat at a table thinking my order was put in and the rest of my family placed theirs. Their food comes and I am still waiting for mine only to find out later they never put the order in and the server goes to me that I didn't confirm it. It was just so odd to me that we were talking about it with the guy taking the order and he asked me which one and I told him which one I wanted that he then goes I didn't confirm it. The food was okay not the best in my expectation, I wouldn't eat here again. read more

Their tagline is: Food for every mood.... but with a name like "Mithaas" (Hindi for sweetness), why would one focus on snacks or drinks, and not on sweets? Mithaas has, arguably, the best Indian mithai (sweets) in the Tri-state area. Part of the Moghul group that has a number of successful restaurants in NJ, Mithaas pays tribute to the Starbucks model in the hope that customers are willing to pay a premium for eating snacks and desserts while lounging around with friends and family. Before one has settled in, that $ 5 Kulfi and $ 6 Badam halwa (roasted almond pudding) have already started raising the decibel volume which one would hear while checking out at their cha-ching register. I don't really mind paying ~ $ 12/lb. for the mithai. They have some of the most creative sweets around. Maybe I am used to more traditional Indian sweets (like Barfi, Rasgulla, Pedas), but some of the more creative hybrids (Pakiza, Anarkali, Sandesh versions) are quite well executed. I've had sweets here which I haven't found at other shops, including Gachak (jaggery, sugar, sesame seeds) which used to be my favorite sweet as a child, memories of which are not matched by contemporary versions. That said, as a result of their innovative product offering the servers also play fast and loose with tradition. When I asked for the excellent Rabri (dense condensed milk based dessert) the server pointed me towards two versions: one pinkish brown and another Chhena Pai (crumbly and moist form of farmers cheese - soft and smooth consistency). While technically both are correct (the latter in Eastern parts of India), it would confuse the heck out of some customers. I witnessed one such person who hadn't had these before and when asked to describe it, the server had the audacity to say, "like Ras Malai... only ten times better!" Now criticizing Ras Malai is blasphemy to me, and so I nodded in agreement, while whispering to the customer "Only because they don't do a good job at Ras Malai". (True). And, that would be the part about Mithaas that I don't get. It's like the student who can do well in advanced placement classes, but would struggle at handling more basic material. I don't think they can match up to Maharaja Sweets in Queens when it comes to the basic: Burfi, Rasgulla, Kaju Katli, and Chum Chum. It's one of those mysteries that even as I stood in a maddening crowd of people at the time of Diwali (where one can be sure that due to rapid turnover the sweets are fresh), I could see that their Kalakand, Laddoos, and Barfi did not get the same enthusiastic reaction. There are few reasons to travel to Edison. But, if you're in the mood for creative Indian sweets, do use the holidays as an excuse to stop by and indulge your sweet tooth at Mithaas. Still, say "Be Damn" to that Badaam Halwa, and resist their aggressive attempts at up-sell. read more

I wish they could maintain their quality as well as prices for the amount they charge..... The place was dirty and in messy condition. I did not feel once that I am not in India...We ordered for paw bhaji (which was just average)and shahi samosa and which unfortunately was not even shahi, and came after my repeating intervention of almost half n hour to the person who was in cash counter.... I am sure they were out of the dough. I wished somebody could have atleast come up to us and just apologize for the delay and the reason for the delay too...But guess that does not happen here, after the wait of almost half an hour, we thought the wait would be worth but what to say they served us three mini size samosas, that too oily and charged us full for the dish which they didn't serve us on the table.... So I really don't know are they concern about their customers or busy making money.... I wish they should read the reviews of the disappointed customers and should try to make up for being in the service industry.... read more
