Is it a donut shop that sells coffee? or is it a coffee spot that sells donuts? Not certain, but I saught out J.Co in Wanchai hearing that their donuts were super special. They are gourmet, boutique donuts, not your standard glazed fare (although they had those too). I asked the lady behind the counter to set me up with three different donuts of her choosing of those she deemed the most popular and/or company favorites. Without a blink of her eye, she said that although all of their donuts are great, she parked an "Avacado Di Caprio", "Al Capone" and a "Why Nut?" on my plate. $15 per donut or $88 for a half dozen. Although I ate them over the period of the day and not in one sitting, I would say this about these delicious morsels served up at J.Co: - Fresh! Fresh! Fresh! Melt in your mouth fresh dough to the donut. The dough though almost melts away in the face of the flavor of that particular donut. -Unique, fun flavors that burst on your taste buds like a party in your mouth. Espcially the peanut butter "Why Nut?"...it literally melted in my mouth and was really sweatly delicious! -The $15HKD price tag is worth the quality taste from their donut offerings. -The store is clean, organized, modern and upbeat. They sell lots of coffee options and also frozen yogurt too, but I stuck to my donut experience. I am a firm believer of not wasting your calories on sugary treats that do not make the cut. It is worth every sit-up, mile run, kick boxing class to have consumed these delectable treats.

Ok ok, So I was craving some "American old-fashioned"…read moredonuts. Sooo Hello J.Co. This being my first visit here, the donuts are yummy eye candy... Sadly, they don't do "old-fashioned" so I opted for the Alcapone donut iced with a white frosting and covered in almonds. They're donuts are fancy with designs and interesting flavours. There's only 1 option for a glazed plain donut. Three phrases to describe the donut: not too sweet, moist density, satisfying. Overall - it's just ok. Priced at 15.00 each, I'd say that it's a fair price for their donut. The latte was pretty good -balanced in flavours. They also have yogurt and packaged sandwiches. The sandwiches don't look so good so skip those. Does J.co deserve a second visit? If I'm in Wan Chai - Sure!

I ordered the tenderloin to be medium rare, but it was honestly towards the raw side. Medium rare typically has a firm seared exterior with a juicy warm pink interior, but the meat was really chewy throughout and was almost impossible to cut because of the fact it wasn't cooked well. (I actually ended up getting food poisoning the next day because of how raw the food was which was baffling to me). The creamed spinach wasn't very creamy and more on the grainy side which threw off the texture of the dish. The baked potato was done well and I had no complaints there. The blue Monday was one of their 5 cocktails they had, but it honestly tasted like a giant shot of blue curaçao. It really wasn't representative of a cocktail at all and I had to send it back because it was so strong. Overall the food was definitely a 1/5 for a place of this stature. Service - the service was the best service I've ever had in a fine dining restaurant. The staff were accommodating and very attentive, and they even took out the cocktail I ordered because I didn't like it. The service is immaculate and even though I despise the food, the service is commendable. Ambjance - the ambiance is what you would expect of your typical fine dining restaurant, the view is nothing crazy but it has a nice upscale interior. Overall, I only gave this place a 2/5 because the service was wonderful, but as I'm not here for good service, I'm here to eat some damn good food which unfortunately doesn't exist at this restaurant. The quality of food is abysmal for a fine dining restaurant and it doesn't do justice for the steakhouse genre.

So I looked it up and surprisingly, we did have them before but sadly all closed down for some reason. It is not like we Hong Kong people do not have a thing for dessert, ask any girls on the street and they will be jumping up and down in excitement if they hear about a new dessert place coming to town. So apparently donuts did not work. How about cupcakes? Personally I adore cupcakes as they are petite and I can have my dose of sugar for the day and devour them guilt-free. So I was rather ecstatic when I saw Twelves Cupcakes here. Twelves Cupcakes was originally from Singapore and it opened two shops in Hong Kong around the same time in late 2013. The décor is rather simple with white bricks on the wall. There aren't that many tables so I suppose people come here mainly for take-away. You can have a look at all the cupcakes they have to offer in the display cabinet. Every day they will change certain cupcakes to keep customers coming. For me, Red Velvet and Rainbow Vanilla are the best ones with cream cheese on top and a little red heard or sprinkles as decoration. They all taste very savory and creamy. However I would love them to be a bit more buttery. Cupcakes might not be as huge as macaroons in Hong Kong but I do see lots of potentials here as they are sweet and who does not love some sweetness in the middle of the day anyways? So come along and grab some here for your loved-ones and let them tell you how they feel about it!

It's communal seating, so don't be surprised if you're sitting with other people. I like that this place has a napkin dispenser, which a lot of restaurants in Hong Kong don't give you napkins. Their congee is good and bubbling hot. Not the best I've had in Hong Kong but it's super quick and cheap. Their soy bean milk is delicious and homemade with no added preservatives. It's great cold too. Their rice crepes aren't too bad either. I like the sesame and sweet sauce they provide you on your table. Each time I've been here, it's been with my parents so they usually speak to them/my sparse Cantonese had gotten me by, not too sure if they speak too much English here. It gets crowded at peak times, but you can usually get a seat. Turn over time is super fast. They're efficent and friendly enough!

"I always thought of myself as James Bond." - Michelle Yeoh…read more You must think I'm a freak for giving all the egg tart bakeries on Hong Kong Island perfect scores. Well yea, I can be a freak lol, but in this case it's all the bakeries "so far", not all were exceptional, but damn most are! Tai Cheong Bakery is the OG of bakeries on my list. Established in 1954 here on Lyndhurst Terrace, Tai Cheong Bakery is a legendary Hong Kong bakery famed for pioneering cookie-crust egg tarts. Known as a favorite of the last British Governor, Chris Patten, it is considered a must-visit for warm, buttery egg tarts, along with their signature Sha Weng (Chinese donuts). Bakehouse and Hashtag B Bakeries are the innovative ones that turned the "egg tart wars" upside down with modern recipes and Michelin baby followers lol. On the other side you have Tai Cheong Bakery that has been using the same recipe for 72 years. All amazing bakeries yet something in my heart will always favor the originals. On my visit I arrived about 10 minutes before opening and was second in line. For the 10 minutes I chatted with the sweet Korean lady who was there for the same reason as me... original egg tarts! There's a menu sign posted outside - lucky for those waiting in line because it's a photo menu with Chinese, Japanese, Korean and English translation. Once the doors opened I was second in line and the line of about a dozen formed behind me. Auntie greeted me in English and I ordered the following: Egg Tart (Cookie Crust) 12 HK$ x2, Puff Pastry Egg Tart 12 HK$, Milk Protein Egg Tart 15 HK$, BBQ Pork Pastry 7 HK$ x2. I actually wanted the Coconut Egg Tart, but oddly I ended up with eh Milk Protein Egg Tart. Ok, still ate it! Ambiance can be described as a good chi bakery, and apparently this is the original location from 1954, if so it was really clean and inviting. I didn't see a sit-down area tho. Everything I had delicious, yes including the Milk Protein Egg Tart I didn't order lol. The traditional Egg Tart (Cookie Crust) amazing with flaky crust and tasty filling expected from only the best Dan Tat! In the end, Tai Cheong Bakery is a must for egg tart fanatics. In fact, the menu was diverse enough to walk out with no egg tarts and still be happy as a clam. I heard the buns here are delicious. My only regret was not having a second visit, but it's only because it's located in Central and I was staying in Causeway Bay. Next time I'll jump on the Ding Ding for a second visit! Out of all the "traditional" bakeries this was tops! Pls follow my IG travel adventures: @eric_travel_guru
