I normally don't write yelp reviews because some businesses one day they are five stars in the next day, It's a disappointment. But I've been shopping at this location for many years. One day years ago, one of the employees recognized me from years past. His name is Steve. This not only goes out to Steve, but it goes out to the entire staff on the floor. Shout out to the two gentlemen in the wine section. Outstanding service at Mission Wine & Spirits in Pasadena. I've known Steve for years, and he consistently goes above and beyond. I honestly thought that " they" the sales people that were somehow on commission. A couple of days ago Steve personally texted me when a new wine arrived that he knew I'd love. This is an OG spot that's been in my neighborhood for decades, and yet today I found myself walking in for the first time. Glad I did as I now declare Mission as my official neighborhood fine spiritsl dealer. When you first walk in, you'll notice that it looks a lot bigger than the outside and it's super clean and neat. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more spotless, organized establishment. Everything is pretty easy to find, and there's a lot to choose from, even a few things I couldn't find from the other two big spirit franchisers. And they don't only just sell alcohol, but they have a large, enclosed area for expensive cigars. Price-wise, I think it's about average. Some bottles I was looking for were a little over than what I've seen, and some others were just a bit under. So if you're looking for a real bargain here, probably not. But you will find some hard-to-find bottles here for sure. I will note that this is probably not a beginner-friendly store. There really isn't anyone around to ask questions, save for the folks working the counter - and they're all business it seems. It's more of a self-service spot for sure. I'm very impressed with the service here. I wanted 65-67 bottles of Rosé for my baby shower in a specific size and having a difficult time finding them. I called in and spoke to someone who does orders said he might be able to get it for me. That in itself was great news. Then Steven made sure to follow up with me multiple times on when the order was put, and the day of picking up! Not a lot of places take dead lines seriously but this team did. Not much to add to the other reviews, but based on my perusing, they easily have the best selection of high quality producers for wine in the area. The prices are very good - if not the lowest in the area, which they often were, they would not be significantly more expensive. The service is great as well - the staff are super knowledgable about the wines they carry, the producers, and even some details about what to expect from one vintage vs another. You would NEVER see a selection like this or staff as knowledgable as this at a Bevmo or even at Total Wine. Yes, these stores may carry more labels, but the producers are often lower quality (IMHO). I've been coming to this place for years. It's a superb local alternative to big box corporate retailers like BevMo ,Total Wines & Spirits or even Ralph's or Vons. Those places are all good but I also like supporting the smaller places. This place fas an impressive selection of wines, spirits, mixers, promo deals and what I like the best...an in-store walk in humidor featuring a great selection of stogies( cigars). One stop shopping for booze and sticks( cigars) at its finest! No need to drive all the way downtown for your goods,,,just come here. My one caveat is that they close early every night at 8pm . Great selections all around. However, my review is for an associate. Sweetest man I have ever met. I went to this location because it was the only spirits shop that sold a specific brand of sake. He explained to me how sake works - fermentation process and what certain numbers on the bottles mean. Peter enthralled me. His knowledge is spoken like a storyteller. It felt like two friends chatting over unopened drinks, giving meaning to what we held in our hands. He lived in Japan for 5 years, and we stood in an isle and talked about it briefly - the best and worst parts of it (agreeably, the only con of Japan was its summer humidity). His name is Peter, great great great man. I darted into this store for one thing only, and I left with more knowledge and kindness than I could have ever expected. Thank you, Peter. read more

WHite wine and Red Wines were some of the most expensive i have seen. They even have Ernest and Julio wines you can purchase just about anywhere. Nice staff and wine. Mission Wine and Spirits has an imprint in the Pasadena and Glendale areas, with this two-building location serving as HQ. One of the buildings functions as their warehouse, parking is in between, and the other is the store for walk-in traffic and online sales. I was curious to check them out after attempting an online purchase only to find out many days later that the wine was sold out. I also witnessed them hunting for a wine that was apparently MIA, so this might indicate better organization is needed. Ironically, the wine I wanted is still listed on Wine Searcher.com, so go figure. Anyhow, I like the general layout, standard liquor store and related party supplies in front, beer lining the wall, and wines by region more or less on display by section. I found it a little disorganized because the shelves are floor to over 6' high. Nonetheless, I browsed carefully and saw some good stuff, comparative pricing, and even a few really good deals. Just keep in mind the really high sales tax in Pasadena (10.25% currently). The back of the store is the formal wine cellar with higher-end domestic and imported varieties. This area has some excellent deals and vintages sold out elsewhere. Again, when wine scouting or shopping, one suggestion I'd make is download the Vivino app because you can scan the bottle label and see how it's rated by everyday users, not professional critics that may give overly high scores for undeclared kickbacks. read more

I got in and out of the store in 5 minutes. I needed a Cabernet for a gift on my way to an event but i know nothing of wine. a gentleman recommended 2 that he thought were great and one was a 2017. What an awesome shop! A HUGE selection of wines, liquors, and beers. They specialize in unique and hard to find items, as well as ridiculously rare and pricey items. But there is basic stuff too, so anyone will be able to find a style of alcohol in their price range. The employees are amazingly knowledgeable and helpful. I have been a customer of their Glendale locations for years, but the Pasadena store is bigger with a better selection overall. There is free parking on site and the store is well lit. Prices are super competitive and there are discounts if you buy in bulk. I highly recommend this shop to everyone (over 21 of course). read more

The customer service here is out of this world. Joe was amazing and took care of me A-Z. I had ordered through Uber Eats and I was sending a Macallan to a friend of mine. When the driver got there he said he couldn't give it to them because they weren't the ones ordering it. I called Joe and MY MAN hand delivered the thing to my buddy's house. The website said it's open on Monday (3/13/23). Called to reserve a special bottle of sake. Called many times and nobody answered the phone. Thought something might be wrong with the phone and drove (30 minutes) to the store. A piece of paper taped on the glass door that store is closed today for "maintenance". It would be of great help if the store bothered to indicate the closure on the the website or phone message. This is highly unprofessional and poor customer service. read more

If you are ordering specific bottles of rare vintage on line that they say they have and after spending hundreds of dollars later only getting incorrect bottles delivered that you didn't want then this is also the place to go. Phone calls elicited many hollow promises of we will fix it, must be a shipping dept mistake, yes of course we have what you ordere in stock and we will get you what you ordered; ended with an email that stated oops. sorry we don't have it. Promised return phone calls by the manager never happened, promises to to solve the issue went unfulfilled, employees passing the buck and never hearing from the manager again. Long awaited review I wanted to leave about a year ago. The alcohol selection is great and the prices on some bottles are reasonable. However, there was an older, skinnier gentleman behind the counter that was just absolutely horrid to deal with. Being a avid bourbon and scotch collector/drinker, seeing all these variety of bottles really excited me. After selecting and paying for my bottles, I look behind the counter at the rarer bottlings and the cashier rudely tells me that I need to leave since I already made my purchase. I explained that I just wanted a quick look and may want to purchase an additional bottle and at that point he had the nerve to tell me that he had other people in line and that I need to leave. I was absolutely shocked at his response considering that I not only purchased a good amount of bottles, was planning on making this my new go to spot but also am used to good customer service. There was a brief back and forth exchange between the cashier and I until a younger gentleman that worked there stepped into our interaction and stated that it was fine that I continued to look at the bottles behind the counter. As he was explaining this to me the cashier just rolled his eyes and gave off a big sigh. Although I do appreciate the younger gentleman trying to help, the sheer attitude of the cashier trumped any good experience I had shopping there. I have been there a few times before but that was the last time I have ever stepped foot into that store again. read more
