I love some Mission BBQ, however, on Saturday 8/22, the moist/fatty brisket let me down. This is the first time that this has happened. It was soooo dry. I did not realize it until I got to my destination and opened up the to-go box. Perhaps, because I was one of the first customers of the day, this might have been leftover from the night before. Moist/fatty brisket should always be oozing with juice. Nope. The jalapeño cheddar sausage and collards were spot on. Restaurant staff were extremely pleasant. read more

Mission BBQ - The moist/fatty brisket was sooooooo dry that I felt let down for the first time. - Barbeque Near Me - Wilmington, North Carolina

Great counter service BBQ in the heart of Wilmington. It was our first visit, so the lovely lady at the counter explained the menu, how to order, her favs, etc. Very helpful if you are not sure what to get. We settled on brisket. My hubs got the brisket sandwich with side of Mac and cheese and side of green beans. I had the chopped brisket the comes with the sauce mixed in with a side of baked beans. Sides do have meat mixed in as well. But the portions were sizable and very good. No option for cornbread or a little pile of pickles with the sandwiches, but if you get a platter, it does come with cornbread. The place is covered with military and firefighter patches, photos, and downtown Manhattan pictures of the former World Trade Center. As a former NY'er, we appreciate the dedication to the first responders and military service people. It is why this restaurant got started. They donate to charities for veterans and first responders. We are grateful. Overall, good experience. When we arrived the restaurant was quiet, but once our food was ready, and we chose our seats, the line reached the door. It was very busy. We also took more time ordering so it was good we were there early before dinner rush on Tuesday. I will definitely return here. Very casual, good food, lots of sauces to try and they have a mission to help the military. 5 stars read more

We've been visiting Mission BBQ regularly since 2019, right after moving to Wilmington, NC, and it's consistently been a great spot for delicious barbecue. The food quality always impresses us, and the prices are some of the most reasonable in town--honestly, next to Costco's hot dog meal, Mission BBQ is the cheapest place to enjoy a lunch meal. As you can see from the attached photos my favorite meal is the 2- Sampler, Pulled Pork and Brisket with sides of Baked Beans and Coleslaw. These are the best baked beans that I have found in Wilmington and the coleslaw ranks high on my list. Depending on the cooking staff on duty that day there may be a slight variation in the coleslaw. My wife's favorite meal is their Pulled Pork Sandwich, and I will give her my cornbread which she thoroughly enjoys. What earns this restaurant 5 stars is their consistency of delivering great food over the years and I feel confident in recommending to Visitors and natives alike. read more

First time at a Mission BBQ but based on the reviews, we decided to check it out. I got the Baby Back ribs and they were perfect. Juicy and smoked so nicely. Toothy and what I want in a rib. It didn't need any sauce at all but there were several to try on the table. I had to try to North Carolina Vinegar, South Carolina Zing, Kansas City Classic, Texas Twang and the Tupelo Honey Heat. My favorite was definitely the Tupelo Honey Heat. My meal came with corn bread and coleslaw. You can choose a side if you get the meal. I enjoyed the slaw. Very fresh. Could have used a pinch of salt. Not too sweet and not to mayonnaise- y. The service was friendly. Even though you pick up your food (which was FAST), there was a bus person (I think her name was Kayla) was awesome. Super sweet, asked us how our food was, if we needed anything, if it was our first time. She was very warm and welcoming. I give my first experience with Mission BBQ top marks. I'd go back again if my experience was as good. read more

We stumbled upon this bbq place while driving around Wilmington. The amount of choice was overwhelming at first, but the gentlemen at the front was so kind and explained everything to us. This set the tone for the rest of our meal, everyone there was super welcoming and upon realizing we had never been there before, they even gave us free samples and a free peach cobbler! The food itself was quite good for the price. We got the pulled pork, jalapeno/cheese sausage and brisket. The first two were really good, the brisket was a bit dry. All the sides were really good (corn bread, cole slaw, beans, mac & cheese). They had a really good range of 6 sauces that covered sweet, tangy, spicy and more savory. We got to sample the regular sausage and the smoked turkey. If I went back, I would get the turkey, it was tender and not too salty. We also got takeout of pulled pork and brisket sandwiches, which were really big. read more

WHOAAAA!!! There is soooo much this place does right. EVERYONE is nice, friendly and full of information. Literally everything i was delicious. I knew the burnt ends in briskets were gonna be amazing, but I was shocked how juicy the turkey was. I'll be going back for more of that. And let's talk about all the sauces. And I love that. They encourage you to try all of them and they tell you what they like on each of them. It was just such a great experience and I can't wait to go back for more. read more

This was my first visit to Mission BBQ. The food was FANTASTIC, and the employees were incredibly friendly. I truly cannot say enough good things about them, and I will be back -- *often*. I love the fact that they support vets and first responders- their donations to T2T.org were an added bonus. read more

LOVE Mission BBQ! I have family members that are celiac and the employees take requests seriously and my family members have never gotten sick from gluten here. I love the pulled pork and that you can try all the different sauces. Can't wait to go back! read more

The food and service never disappoints. The ambience and the atmosphere are always great. The servers are friendly and very patient. I've never had a bad experience here. The portion sizes and the food are always great. Also, I love the way they treat veterans and active service members. Definitely worth every penny. read more

This may be my new go to BBQ place in Wilmington. I discovered Mission BBQ when they catered a friends party. I was so impressed with their meats and sides, I just had to try out the restaurant. Walk in and go to the front to place your order and get your drink cup. Note, they do have old school sodas in glass for sell as well. They bring your food out to your table. There are six different sauces on the table so sample them all. I tried the baby back ribs, pulled pork, smoked sausage and brisket. Loved the ribs, pulled pork and sausage. The brisket was good but not my favorite. Note, they have several meats they smoke here so there is something for everyone (minus your vegan friends). The sides I tried (greens, BBQ beans, and cornbread) were damn good. Service was 5 stars. They take very good care of everyone. Overall, great place and I will be back. read more

Thank You Mission BBQ for great food products, friendly service, and your exceptional hospitality to military Vets and area First Responders. Your dining area walls are a museum of first hand experiences of those who serve and served this great nation. If anyone dines here for the first time, try if you can to do so at Noon if any day, when they ask patrons to stand for and sing the National Anthem. This is a business that "walks the walk" of appreciating this great nation - and not ashamed of doing it. And finally, did I mentioned their BBQ is exceptional! Thank you. read more

OMG We Love this place, best pulled chicken in town. All their food is delicious and it's fast service with a smile.

The food is spectacular. Probably the best brisket I have ever had. I loved their corn bread as well. They had blueberry cobbler - wow! Incredible. This is a must try. read more

Walk up and Order, Service was professional and impersonal, they are busy so dont expect friendly. I ordered the Brisket and it was very flavorful but DRY! Ugh Everything else I had and the table of 4 had was wonderful and their sample of the Smoked Turkey was amazing. I sure love Brisket just not dry... I Will go back, maybe it will be better the following times, we can only hope. read more

Delicious!! Their mission to give back & stories is exceptional!! https://mission-bbq.com/stories-of-service/

Wow simple great food incredibly fast and it shouldn't be that good for that little money. Weird vibe from the people I think someone was getting yelled at by a supervisor or something that put them off but other than that really enjoyed the food. read more

I've dined here several times now (and at other locations). On my most recent visit, I ordered the half rack of BAY-b-Back Ribs, which is a perfect size lunch for me. The meat is fall off the bones oh-so tender! At the table are six squeeze bottles of various BBQ sauces. I sampled all of them. I only put a small amount, as I don't want to miss out on the flavors of the meat. With the ribs came fries and corn bread. I love the atmosphere of the place, as it honors our military, police officers, firefighters, and first responders. I only wish Mission BBQ would add wine to their menu. read more

Love this place . I am a vegetarian and thinking I wasn't going to be able eat anything but then I saw fish. I'm not a salmon eater but I saw that they smoked it. It was wonderful. The service was great . Now I had to wait about 10-15 minutes for it to be ready but I found if I ordered ahead of time I could just pick it up when I took my lunch break and walk down and get it. They have all kinds of sides to eats and try each of them they are fabulous especially eating and living in the south. I love the inside how clean it is and the people and how it all organized. When you walk in it not loud like most restaurants which was amazing to me. Plenty of seating and very organized... Very nice place to eat. They also had all kinds of different meats, chicken, pork's etc for the carnivores out there. Oh, I didn't try any sweets. Next time I will . But this place is a must!!! read more

I love the atmosphere here! It's nice to see some people still care about our veterans/servicemen/public safety. The food was great and me being from Georgia a lot of bbq places have vinegar based bbq sauce, thankfully here I had options from around the country. Short story This place was a 10/10! My boyfriend is a truck driver and I often go on the road with him and we're always looking for something new to try! Certified big backs. We were going to go to river 128, copper Penny or a Japanese restraint. All of a sudden we saw this and we are so glad we did! Hesitant at first because some southern bbq places aren't always as welcoming to our kind but this was the complete opposite! As soon as we walked in we were greeted with smiles and bubbly personalities. I wish I knew the man's name who helped us because I can go on and on about his customer service and menu guidance! My boyfriend got the 3 meats with wet brisket, sausage and ribs! I got the lean brisket fries, slaw and baked beans, he got Mac and cheese and a cheesecake. When I say EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING I MEAN EVERYTHING! It's going to be a long ride home with full belly's but we are definitely going to make our way back! Definitely one of my new favorite bbq places! Everything just amazing! Clean, service, food quality and quantity, 1000/10! read more

Great food and service, I had the 1/2 chicken and beans always great food . Good place for the family and fresh food

We were so glad we found Mission BBQ. From the moment you walked in everyone was hospitable, from all the locals (who will happily offer suggestions for first timers like we were) to the staff, who also happily walked us through the process of ordering, and the different sauces. I would recommend the Memphis Belle!! The food was great and a truly inspiring restaurant that pays respect to those who have served our country. We will be back!! read more

We ordered takeout for 5 and we each had different meat, sides. dessert and they got it all correct! The food was good. The baked beans were probably the best side of all we had. The banana pudding is not the "real" banana pudding, cooked with meringue, but A for effort. You must have it if you serve BBQ. Overall good food, good service, and we'll eat there again. So why not 5 stars? It's good BBQ but it's not the best I've had. read more

Thamazen made our visit extra special. This was our first time to mission bbq as we are visiting from Michigan. Everything we ate was great. We got the meat plater chicken, brisket and pork. Mission BBQ - Inside - Barbeque Near Me - Wilmington, North Carolina

This is where I go when I want to feel at home in public. The amount of passion and appreciation Mission BBQ has for our community and, specifically, our service members and first responders, is incomparable. Every inch of the walls in this place has remembrance and appreciation memorabilia for first responders in the area and beyond. There's feel good country (or holiday, seasonal) music playing and the environment as a whole gets you in the mood to love America and her people. Located on College Rd right next to Home Goods, TJ Maxx and AC Moore, this Mission BBQ is my go-to when getting errands done. I cannot stand shopping, most the time, but knowing I get to look forward to the sweet staff and juicy pulled pork sandwich always seems to get me through the errands. I've tried pretty much everything on the menu and don't really have a favorite, per say, it's really just based on my preference that day. The sauces here really get me! I'm not a carolina vinegar BBQ person so it's nice to find a place with a wide variety of sauces on every table. My go-to sauces are without a doubt the Memphis Belle and Smokey Mountain. For sides I'd recommend the cornbread and the baked beans - very Southern of me, I know, but they just give a full array of flavors and textures in combination with the meats. Don't believe me? Test them all out, they're right there on the table in front of you for that reason! They have a typical soda machine here plus an ice bucket full of bottled beverages. Everything at this location is kept in pristine condition, from the condiments and beverage station to the bathrooms. The food is hot and ready in minutes and there's plenty of seating for small and big groups alike. The parking lot is part of a huge plaza and I've never struggled to find something close to the entrance. Mission BBQ does catering and events, and on Veteran's Day they give out free meals and cake to active and retired service men. I really love this spot and will forever recommend them. read more

This place will remind you how much you love America. Throughout the restaurant you will find quotes, badges, pictures, and memorabilia from service members, and first responders. There's a warm hometown feeling when eating here and the staff will reinforce this with their friendliness. The food is the cherry on top! I ordered the brisket and it was amazing, it fell apart and was so flavorful. I used the Memphis bbq sauce to go with it and it complimented the meat perfectly. Pretty good lunch spot. We were working in the area and decided to try some BBQ. I got the smoked turkey sandwich with a side of collard greens. The turkey was really yummy; great flavor.
