Just turkey and a hamburger bun.
Eugene C.

It's a chain. Nothing more nothing less. They make a huge deal about the military but don't offer a military discount. Food is ok. Service is hit and miss. You might get the mumbling "can I halp you" or the "hi welcome" depends. Also. Little disappointed in the turkey sandwich. Like would it kill anyone to put a pickle or something one it. Be nice if they wiped the outside tables off once in while to control the flies but don't expect much from staff these days. Had to move three times because the flys love the sticky stuff all over the tables.

We were craving BBQ and this hit the spot. My daughter ordered kids ribs, which come with a side item (she chose fries) and drink, she also got a brownie and I ordered the brisket sandwich lean. The food was plated (baskets) in under 2 minutes, before we even sat down. The staff was all super friendly. Staff walks around and checks on you and promptly offered a to-go box. The brisket was delicious, although a few bites were overly crispy and hard. The sandwich seems like it should come with something. The kids rib plate had 2 ribs and lots of fries. Although they were a little fatty, my daughter enjoyed them. Both plates seem a little expensive for what you get. The brownie on the other hand was HUGE!! We enjoy trying all the sauces. For me, I like Smoky Mountain by a big margin. My 11yo liked Smoky Mountain and Memphis Belle. Others are good, just different styles based on what you like best. We were there at noon and I didn't realize they play the national anthem every day at noon. Everything stopped and all the staff and customers stood with hands across their hearts, faced the flag, listened silently and clapped at the end. I've never seen that in a restaurant before; it was pretty neat.

An absolute favorite of mine! Not only is the food amazing but so are the people! If ever there was a place where people who knew what you wanted as you walked in the door, its Mission in Midlothian. Gage is an amazing employee who gets it right EVERY TIME. When I don't know if I want a change... he brings me right back to my never-let-me-down salmon! ( I also dibble in the brisket and pulled chicken) If reviews could increase chances of a raise --- Gage - I would create one every visit. Thanks for being AMAZING! You're the bomb!

Pulled Pork and Maggie's Mac n Cheese

We have been on a search for the best bbq in Richmond, and I think we may have found it at Mission. Although there seems to have been some subtle changes like the bread and mac and cheese, since we started going here, this place is still great on a couple of different levels. First the staff is always friendly and efficient. They answer any questions you have, keep the building clean, look like they enjoy their job, and they get your food out quick and fresh. The shredded pork is flavored perfectly, with a nice balance of smokiness and seasoning. For those who enjoy their bbq drenched in vinegar, this may not be for you. They have a great selection of dipping sauces, to which I preferred the tupelo honey heat (syrupy spicy honey) and the Memphis belle (thick standard bbq sauce). Both are amazing. The Maggie's mac and cheese is amazing, but i wish they cooked it longer. I like a nice crust on my mac and cheese, and sometimes they can make it a bit too gooey. Overall, this is my favorite bbq in VA. I hope they don't change. I recommend everyone to get out and support this amazing veteran owned restaurant by eating some of the best bbq you will have! Overall: 10/10 Location: 10/10 Customer Service: 10/10 Prices: 10/10 Food: 10/10

Brisket, fries, green beans & cornbread

First time at Mission BBQ. Spotted this one while passing thru suburbs of Richmond. EXCELLENT BBQ! Company theme is to honor uniformed service women and men. The interior of the restaurant is decorated with pictures, awards and patches to honor armed services and first responders. It's a square room, 8 booths along 2 sides, tables of different configurations in the middle. Country music in the background. The room is spotlessly clean... So either this is a brand new store or they're taking great care to keep the place sparkling. Kudos on the variety of sauces and also how they're offered. Each table has a cardboard drink holder labeled with each of 6 choices. The sauce bottles are labeled, non-sticky and full. Smart idea to use cardboard holders... When they get funky they can be thrown away! Food is on point. Brisket is thick sliced, very lean, crunchy bark on the outside and tender, moist and juicy inside. And a hearty portion. This is among the best smoked brisket I've had. Fries are skin-on, crunchy, nicely seasoned. Green beans a little more crisp than I prefer, but slow simmered with pork, onions and still delicious. Plus a square of down-home style cornbread - crumbly and sweet. Not much more you can ask for in a BBQ meal. Also tried a garden salad, topped with smoked turkey. The salad is HUGE, and packed with fresh lettuce, tomato, carrots, onions and cukes. Topped this with a few thick slices of succulent smoked turkey. Delicious. Plus half left over for lunch tomorrow. Last but not least a cup of banana puddin. A great rendition, seemed to be made to order - nothing mushy here. Crunchy vanilla wafers, slices of fresh banana, pudding and a dollop of whipped cream. I've read that this is an up & coming chain with about 100 outlets. Hopefully they open one closer to home soon, I'll be a regular.

Chicken by the yard, mac and cheese, green beans and corn bread

Very fast service. Bbq is SO tender, moist, and well seasoned. They have multiple different bbq sauces to try at each table, which is convenient. Feels homey inside restaurants from the pictures of service members and military memorabilia on the walls.

I love their military decor and mission: Proudly serving those who serve. Pulled pork. Chicken. Turkey. Brisket. Ribs. Sausage. As soon as the door opens, the aroma captures you. Ordering was easy, and reasonably quick. So happy we opted for the sampler! Pulled pork, sausage, and brisket. Served with cornbread. All very good! Mac n cheese, potatoes, baked beans, and Cole slaw. I wish the potatoes and mac n cheese had been warmer. Sweet tea and lemonade are both great choices, but there's also fountain drinks and bottled sodas. Military memorabilia nicely cover the walls. The National Anthem is played each day at Noon. The workers are very nice and extremely helpful. They don't offer military discounts but they do have military VIP cards. The restrooms are separated by gender. Very clean and spacious; handicap accessible for sure. We'll visit again.

Great bbq if you're looking for quality with sauce selection. Moderately priced sides which are up to par with the main dish.

We live an easy walk to the new location on the corner of John Rolfe and Ridgefield Parkway. Today we wanted to pick up lunch for our family since we all are home and working from home. I ordered a medium family meal which comes with 2lbs of meat, four pints of sides and either cornbread or potato rolls for sandwiches. We ended up getting 1 pound of pulled chicken, 1 pound of pulled pork, two pints of Mac and cheese because it's that good, potato salad and the southwest Cole slaw. We also got the rolls for sandwiches, Swayze sauce and the house sauce. For kicks we added a pound of rope sausage. So much food and so tasty! I've had all of their meats now and enjoy them all. The sides are also exceptional. My husband and I said we want to come and just have a meal there soon. I want to try their tacos. Anyway, we're lucky to have such good food right in our neighborhood. They have vegan options too so it's not just meat. I personally love portobello mushrooms so look forward to having a meatless Monday soon. Welcome to the neighborhood Deep Run Roadhouse and crew! We look forward to seeing you often.

Thanks to them as well for opening up their back room to fit all the girls. Great staff - very friendly. It's a smaller place. But that doesn't detract at all. Now the food. Insanely good. I had the brisket sandwich and it was full of meat and had onions and Cole slaw. Added on the sweet bbq and it was so good. People raved about the Cuban. The hush puppies were a fan favorite. The peanut butter pie and key lime pie were to die for. The Mac and cheese was excellent, as was the cowboy beans and potato salad. If I lived here it would be one of my favorite places to go. Go on in and hit this place if you are in the area!!

My Fiancé and I were greeted by Amy at the register and told her it was our first time there. She was beyond helpful with suggestions when it came to deciding what to order. We landed with getting their Smoked Brisket, Smoked Chicken Thigh Sandwich, Smoked Mac & Cheese, Baked Beans, Onion Rings and their Coated Fries. Everything was perfectly smoked, delicious, and it was some of the best baked beans I've had! I will say, the brisket was a little on the dry side for our taste, BUT the smoke flavor with the sauce was perfect. But what's going to keep you coming back is the customer service. You truly feel at home and welcome by all of the staff. The owner (Janet was her name I think) personally came to our table and thanked us for coming in. We left with an apple turnover (BEST WE'VE HAD) Brunswick Stew and Banana Pudding made to order to take home. Will have reviews for those later. We highly highly recommend, from 2 restaurant industry people.

Sticky table and seat... That was my first impression…read more I ordered the spare ribs with two sides and corn bread. The ribs were OK. The meat, what there was of it, was a bit dry but had a nice smokey flavor. The fries were baked with a nondescript coating and the small container of baked beans was my favorite part. The cornbread was tasteless and the butter that came with it had a strange, bitter taste. There were good parts too. The staff was very pleasant. I was also fortunate to be there on a Thursday night. That's when they host a bluegrass jam session and my meal, such as it was, had some surprisingly good live musical accompaniment. Finally, Billy's shares a parking lot with the dine-in AMC theater. And, say what you will about the food at Billy's, it's a heck of a lot better than what you can get at the movie. My recommendation for an OK dinner and movie experience is to come here first for dinner and then walk the few hundred feet to see your show. And, if you come here on Thursday you might even decide to skip the movie and stay here for the music.

We stopped by mid-bike ride for a meal and were grateful for their exceptionally kind and patient service and hospitality. Bathrooms available and ample places to park since it is a part of a shopping center. The staff gave me an overview of the different types of BBQ: NC is more vinegar based, Red is Virginia's take with a tomato base, and Just BBQ is your classic sweet BBQ sauce. I of course had to go with the Red since we were visiting Virginia for the first time! I'm so glad I did. The food came out exceptionally fast and everything was fresh and hot! I seriously can't express how good the BBQ was. It was juicy, flavorful, and everything you'd want from BBQ. I'll be searching for a sauce like that for years to come since I'm not local! The potato salad was also excellent and the mac n cheese, despite being a bit mushy, had a good flavor. I absolutely loved the corn muffins - no notes! The best part of our visit was getting to chat with the locals who approached us asking about our bike ride. They were all very friendly and made me feel as if I was a local myself. I arrived shortly after they opened on a Thursday and was the first customer in the place. I reviewed the menu, especially the hot dog options, and went with their BBQ slaw dog and a side of mac and cheese. Service was not overly kind to me but as regulars came in, I saw the hospitality really shine. As I was filling up my drink, I saw all their sauce options and added a side of fries to my order as well as a vehicle for sauce tasting. When my plate came out, I was really pleased with the look of the hot dog. Less so with the sides. I know everything is expensive right now and places are doing their best but $2.50 per side when being given that amount seemed a little off. The Mac and cheese was good, very creamy and cheesy. The fries were hot and crispy. Could have used some extra seasoning. The hot dog was good. I added extra BBQ sauce but the bbq on the dog (NC style) was nice with a good vinegary bite. The slaw was ok. I prefer a smaller chop on the cabbage just for ease of eating. The sauces were all really good with the Wildwood hot being my favorite.
