    My pork bbq sandwich
    Justin M.

This is one of our local BBQ places that we finally got around to trying. We always drove by it saying that we needed to go in one day, well we finally did! I had some family in from out of town, so we all decided to venture in together. We were not disappointed! I got the all too common pork bbq sandwich with coleslaw on it. It was very well flavored and the bun held up as well which is important. They also have a decent bbq sauce selection that you can choose from for your meal. My wife had the bbq brisket sandwich that she let me try as well, and it was darn good! My brother also got the bbq sandwich that I got and he enjoyed his just as much as I enjoyed mine. Finally, my nephew got the shrimp po boy which was something he had never had before. He liked it as did I (he was kind enough to give me a taste). Overall we enjoyed our food, and the people at the counter were very and helpful with the menu and the choices. Decent amount of seating as well. This place is a definite 4 stars, and we will surely be coming back here more often!

First visit to Wildwood. We love BBQ and keep our expectations in check because you kever know what you're going to get. This place didn't disappoint though. We had the St. Louis ribs w/ green beans, greens and fried pickles (pictured). We also had brisket w/ bbq beans (not pictured). Ribs were tender and juicy, the brisket was well smoked. The two sauces they have are fantastic. The service was friendly. We'll be back. Please support local businesses.

When I walked in the door I was met with less than enthusiastic staff. No personality at all. I hate talking bad about staff. Most work real hard, maybe it was just a bad day. I ordered the large pork bbq sandwich with slaw and a chopped brisket (what?) sandwich with slaw. And a side of baked beans (pint). The bun was very stiff and the brisket had no smoke smell or flavor. This is why I don't care for chopped brisket. You can't see the smoke ring or crust which is why I'm not sure what the cut was. It was a bit dry and chewy. The pint of beans had no flavor either. They seemed like they came from a can. The pork bbq was the same. For the price I paid for 3 sandwiches it definitely was not a good value. I'm afraid I can't give you a good review on this visit. Poor impression and poor brisket. Lethal combination.

The hush puppies were good, as was the corn nuggets, which I LOVE, but it definitely isn't as generous as the fries are. The sandwiches were really tasty. The pulled pork was good, but I think the fried bologna was amazing. The bologna was super thick, charred, and topped with onions and peppers and cheese. It tasted like the most interesting Philly cheesesteak I have ever had. I will definitely crave this again. The cheese fries were really good, plentiful, and they had a slightly spicy kick, like maybe there was some jalapeño juice in the cheese? So good! The food is pretty inexpensive too considering. A sandwich piled high with pulled pork and coleslaw sets you back around $8, and add a few dollars more to get a fountain soda and a side. The bbq sauces were good, but nothing insane. I couldn't tell the difference between their sweet and spicy sauces, but the sweet peach one is pretty unique and tasty. I ordered a bag of pork rinds to take home and they were just okay. I've had some really spectacular ones that are made fresh, and these were made the day prior, so they were good, just lacking the warm, fluffy, melt in your mouth goodness that Hogshead has. I probably won't order them again, even though I did like the smoky seasoning blend they put on top. The restaurant itself is very clean, and the lady taking our order was very nice and helpful. I'll definitely be back.

My southern roots have to say no to the collards. Sorry! It's nice that they have 2 slaws and a variety of pickles to choose from and the hush puppies were perfect. They offer a variety of sauces and I preferred the Carolina sauce with a bit of Virginia sweet. That said, the overall experience didn't quite match the price point. At around $90 for three people, it felt expensive for a very casual, counter-service setting. They have a quick order cafeteria style service with most sides and meats right there to serve from the ordering counter. They offer a variety of pre-portioned desserts, cold alcoholic beverages, and meats and sides in larger portions to go We chose to sit outside, but the noise level was a major drawback--constant truck traffic and a very loud motorcycle shop next door made it hard to relax or enjoy the meal. These are things that the exchange cannot control, so if noise is an issue for you, sit inside and you will have a different experience. Overall, decent food, but between the cost and the noise, it wasn't the experience we were hoping for.

Our waitress was so nice and the sweet tea was delicious. This is Southern granny cooking just like my grandma made when I was a child. You can order single plates but the best deal is their family-style for $23 a person with black-eyed peas, green beans, stewed tomatoes, biscuits and corn bread, mashed potatoes and gravy and fried chicken with one other protein - we chose pot roast and it was soft and delicious. I wanted dessert - but it was so filling we had to skip although all their pies sounded wonderful. I selected the Pork Tacos PLATTER ($16), which featured three soft flour tortillas filled with smoked pulled pork, house-made pico (red onion, tomato, cilantro), and radish with a Baja drizzle. (Corn tortillas are available upon request). All platters come with two 8-ounce sides; from the 9 choices, we opted for the broccoli salad and onion rings. My husband selected a Smoked Pulled Pork SANDWICH ($10), which was served on a "signature-branded" bun with regular or spicy slaw (on the side) and with a bag of Lay's chips. All of our food was very good, and tasted fresh and homemade. The "branding" of the restaurant's logo on the bun was a fun touch, and we got a pleasant surprise in finding that the very tasty BBQ sauce on the tables was manufactured by GWB Hot Sauce in Clarksburg, WV (which we visit regularly to see a relative). Quantities were good for a filling lunch; we did not have leftovers for a brown bag. Two small comments: (1) my husband would've preferred a more generous helping of the slaw to put on his sandwich; and (2) it would be great to have a menu option that is vegetarian, perhaps a platter with three or four of the side dishes -- or at least showing a separate price for the sides on the menu. Ambiance. (4.5/5). The restaurant is country cute, with clean, well-spaced tables. Many of the tables were occupied while we were there for lunch but it didn't feel crowded. A few patrons seemed "local", and acknowledged the owner who was sitting with some buddies at one of the tables. The restroom was well-maintained. Service (4.5/5). There was only one (efficient!) waitress, handling in-restaurant and take-out orders, delivering food and drinks, wiping down tables, etc. Despite how busy she was, we felt taken care of. Parking, in a town of Louisa lot behind the restaurant, was free and easy. We will return.
