Worst thing here was for sure the service. I read reviews here before and thought "oh it couldn't be too bad." It was bad. Maybe it was came around noon time, but even then it felt like they were understaffed. My friends and I waited at least a good 20 minutes before being able to place our order. Some of us even finished out water and didn't get a refill until ordering food. Then another 20 minutes passed by as our food eventually came out. We even had to ask for the check in the end. I didn't expect much of the food honestly. I didn't expect it to be like some homemade kind of dishes here and that's okay. I ordered the bun bo hue... #37. Highly recommended by my friends. It was barely spicy which was kind of saddening. Maybe the first few sips were spicy but in the end it wasn't anything I couldn't deal with. The beef was actually really good. We had an amazing time at dinner here the other weekend. Everyone who lives around her mentioned it was a great place to grab a bite to eat while we were visiting. Went here last Saturday afternoon around 2:30pm with my husband. It was packed with students and locals alike so we waited about 10 minutes before getting a table. Service was relatively quick, we ordered the pork banh mi, bread was warm and crispy, the rare beef pho, flavorful broth, with a decent size side of jalapeños, basil, lime and sprouts and a 'classic rice' entree. Sadly, after posting the positive review for Miss Saigon, I went back several more times only to experience disappointment. Two out of three of the lunches I had were dreadful. The one day I was told the hot and sour soup had "run out" and given no choice but a watery, flavorless "tomato tofu" soup that had a slice of tomato floating in a nasty clear broth filled with chunks of soft tofu. The main dish was so overcooked that all the vegetables had lost their color and gone limp. The spring roll was so overcooked it was almost burnt. The next time they had the hot and sour soup but it was neither spicy hot nor sour, but had an odd, unpleasant taste devoid of sesame oil. I ordered "lemon grass beef" which had no detectable lemongrass in it or any lemongrass flavor, all I could taste was the red pepper flakes which burned my mouth for 15 minutes after the meal was over. It was as if I had eaten at two different restaurants, compared with my experiences a few weeks before. Nevertheless now that the University is in session, the place was packed, so my guess is that the management has learned it doesn't matter what they feed people, they'll still come. read more

I am not completely disappointed. The food was really good. The seafood certainly wasn't fresh within in it but I kind of ordered it knowing it probably wouldn't be. The broth was really fantastic. It was super flavorful. My boyfriend also enjoyed his, which was some beef soup. What was annoying was the horrible service. It wasn't that busy and there were several servers on but ours was not remotely attentive. We waited a long time to order but our food came out very quickly. The server never checked on us, never refilled our waters, never asked my boyfriend if he wanted another soda until we were ready to leave. We pushed our food aside and waited forever for her to come over. We saw her on her phone, completely oblivious to the fact that she was now being stared at. It still, by this point, took her an additional 20 minutes to come over at which point, she stacked our plates and left. My boyfriend still had more than half of his soup left and I still had enough to wrap as well. Why wouldn't you ask first? In my opinion, the food is the one highlight. Let me first start off by saying that I go to this place almost every weekend. The food is prepared and delivered perfectly almost everyone. Recently however I noticed that the servers are more worried about seating the customers than focusing their attention on the customers that have been seated. Being from Boston I am very used to eating authentic pho from Chinatown. Coming here not having many options Miss Saigon is the only place that serves Vietnamese food nearby. Overall, with the experience I had, I would definitely consider returning to Miss Saigon again in the future. Although the food I ordered is not necessarily considered authentic Vietnamese food (I ordered Chicken and Vegetable stir fry) I was satisfied and happy with my meal. The service was fairly quick considering some classmates an I arrived around 5:15pm. Our waitress did a great job taking our orders and bringing it back to the kitchen. The meals were brought back to our table shortly after. It was noticeable that the restaurant was entering its peak hours of demand as the establishment filled quickly. Although a smaller business, I believe that the restaurant has arranged its layout to fit as many customers as possible making it slightly more congested at times. I would certainly be interested in ordering To-Go at Miss Saigon instead next time and maybe try some more authentic dishes. Furthermore, I really appreciate the assistance of our waitress. It seemed like she was the only one working at times. Luckily I was not in any rush to leave and so I remained patient as she brought back all of our separate checks. If I had any recommendation at all I would suggest Miss Saigon looked into hiring more waitstaff. At the end of the day customer satisfaction means a lot. People choose to dine out for the connivence as well as the experience. They like to know they are cared for and appreciated. If the waitstaff is overwhelmed taking care of the whole restaurant floor and a customer is waiting for service it may take away from their overall positive experience. read more

I absolutely love Pho and I've been to this place about 12 times. about 1/3rd of the time, the Pho is watery. The manager needs to keep the chefs in check and make sure the flavor is always consistent. What I don't get is don't cooks taste the broth when they're cooking it? Can't they tell it tastes watery? So about every 3 times I go the broth is just not good. One of the waiters is not that friendly. He seems like he hates his job and he's not exactly a people-person. He just wants everything done and overwith. I can tell. I'm with him, but at least when I was a server I faked it well. Next are the fresh spring rolls. I used to work in a southeast asian restaurant, and sometimes fresh spring rolls are pre-made and kept under a wet wash cloth to keep the rice paper moist. However, this makes the rolls smell like mildew if the wash cloth isn't absolutely clean. And these rolls have consistently smelled that way. It's either that or they're using nasty water to soak the rice papers in before rolling. This place is a bit pricey for what I'm used to. I eat at Pho/Southeast Asian restaurants all over Boston all the time. And boston restaurants serve bigger portions for a bit less money. and they're always consistent with the flavor! So I give this place a C- P.S. - I must admit this place is better than the "vietnamese noodle soup" restaurant that used to exist across the street. My best friend was actually Vietnamese and her mother was an exceptional cook, so I was a bit disappointed when I ordered several things off the menu and left feeling a bit dissatisfied. I'm disappointed that I feel compelled to write this review. The first few times I visited Miss Saigon were wonderful. The last three times were very frustrating experiences. Although they were not busy, I waited to be seated for way too long, only then to be motioned to a table rather than actually seated. Then a long wait for a menu. Then a long wait to place an order. After asking for water, then a long wait for water. When the pho arrived, I had to ask for the accompanying bean sprouts, etc. And yes, a long wait for that. The pho left a lot to be desired. Granted, it was part of the lunch special menu. x3--yes, exactly the same experience the last three times I've been there. I can't even imagine what it would be like to experience the place on a crowded day. I tried, I really tried. But it may be time to move on. Management--you should be ashamed. read more

Miss Saigon is my family's mainstay, especially for take-out. We love that the ingredients are fresh and that it's a family-operated place (and the servers are really nice people too). It's affordable, healthy, and delicious. We are especially big fans of the spicy basil sauce and the lemongrass sauce on stir-fried veg and meat, and one of us has a serious thing going on with the tom yum soup (we know, it's Thai not Vietnamese, but they do a fine job of it!). The spring rolls are outstanding. And try the spicy spare ribs main dish -- you can get it with sate' (peanut) sauce or with peanutless spicy sauce, both are yum. Be sure they know which sauce you want, though, it's not blazingly obvious from the menu that there are two options. If you need comfort food, the chicken or veg versions of pho stand in for a lot of different ethnic groups' comfort soup. Do be advised that Miss Saigon gets VERY BUSY AND LOUD on weekend nights when the university is in session, so consider getting takeout or eating really early on Fri and Sat during the school year. read more
