3.5 stars rounded up to 4. LimeRed is a fine place for boba with welcomed decaf options. It's conveniently located right next to Amherst College near other restaurants and shops. There are at least 2 other boba places from recognizable national chains a couple blocks away, but this one is locally owned. I stopped by about a half hour before closing on a weeknight. There were a couple customers already seated in the dimly-lit space. It looked like a college hangout, with a few tables and ample space to mill around and wait while being serenaded by Taylor Swift (the soundtrack of the night). I don't tolerate caffeine too well after a certain hour, so I was happy to see that they offered a decaf tea option in the form chamomile -- an unusual option at a boba shop. I got a hot chamomile tea with bubbles and half sugar. The bubbles were rather soft, even for a hot tea drink, and sweeter than I would've preferred, but it still hit the spot on a rainy fall night. If there were a next time, I would get 30% or no sugar added to offset the bubbles and the natural sweetness of the tea. The employees seemed nice, but I didn't interact with them much. The human-run register only accepted cash, so I ordered at the kiosk to use my card. read more

Went back after a while. It was so nice to be back. They had a few new drinks. I tried the blueberry tea and it was really good. The jelly and boba were great too. I love how they have kiosk ordering which makes it easier. Can't wait to go back in the summer and try their smoothies. read more

Not a bad place to get your tea fix! What I tried: Mango jasmine tea w/ mango pop topping ($4.50 as of 9/20 for a small) - Quite fresh. I strangely really enjoyed the mango pop toppings. Think of it as a boba filled with a mango liquid. Not too sweet but refreshing nonetheless! Strawberry fruit tea w/ lychee jelly ($5.50 for a large) - Also really good. It definitely doesn't taste artificial and I LOVE the lychee jelly. If you like lychee in any small capacity definitely get it with your fruit tea! read more

Boba spot for all the college students! Its usually busy and you do have to wait. For the most part their teas are good and boba quality is not bad too. However their boba is on the smaller side and I prefer bigger bobas for a better chew. I also really enjoy their macarons! They have good flavor selection and their macarons are pretty legit. This is my top Amherst town boba place! I usually come here for the jasmine oat milk tea which is always delicious and not too sweet even at the 100% sweetness level. The boba is always served quickly, no more than a 5 minute wait. The shop is also designed so cute and it's a great place to study. The owners here are also the sweetest! The man that owns the store once replaced my drink after he saw someone outside of the store break and knock mine down. I got a Thai tea with soy milk and pearls... super tasty :) LOVE that they don't charge for soy milk, I really appreciate that as a vegan I'm only in Amherst for a short period of time, but this would be my tea spot if I lived here for sure! I appreciate the variety of drinks they have and the ability to customize them, however the taste of the tea itself is pretty mediocre. There wasn't anything that stood out as I was trying it. I also wished this place had regular boba along with the mini boba From my experiences at other shops, here I wasn't asked about what I wanted for my sugar level and I wasn't asked about my ice level. Hence, my passion fruit tea was too sweet and without ice. (Perhaps it was just who was working that day) I really like the set up of the place (the vibe is great with a good amount of seating) and props to whoever drew those Pokémon drawings! read more

I loved the self serve option at LimeRed Teahouse. I was able to step right up and customize my tea! The drinks came out super fast and they even got my complicated order correct! UPDATE I came back this fall semester and Lime Red had gone through a series of changes - rebranding of the logos, cup shapes, switch to mini boba, as well as the addition of milk foam. There is always a long line that doesn't seem to die down often throughout the day. I have gone back countless times since the beginning September, and the consistency with the drinks as well as the drinks themselves have majorly improved - at least from what I remember. I can't speak for the matcha strawberry (which used to be my go to drink), but I will try it soon and post a review for that as well. The caffeine content of the tea has increased quite a bit, but I am more sensitive to caffeine than most, so this shouldn't be a concern to the majority. read more

Can't really say I'm a fan. Probably one of the priciest places I've been for milk tea. I like that they give you "free" boba, but I opted to not get any and there was no discount or anything to reflect that. Overall, my large drink cost me approx $5.35 with tax. That's a lot for some okay tea. It wasn't particularly amazing. Also - I asked for less ice, which I got and was great. But the drink wasn't even cold at all. I guess that's my fault for asking for less ice. As far as the taste of the milk tea itself - I got an Earl Grey milk tea and I felt like there wasn't enough Earl Grey flavor. I did enjoy that it wasn't overly sweet, though. Additionally, they were pretty slow. I was the only one in the shop and the wait time didn't exactly impress me. Kudos to them for making their drinks fresh each time though (that's what I am amusing is causing the long wait time). read more

Oh Limered, I have fond memories of the place because of the people I'd frequent here with but not so much the drinks themselves. Unfortunately this place is like the only boba place in Amherst and they're still in the biz because college kids will frequent to hang out or study. It looks like they've made some revamped changes to their bubble tea from the time I came here as a college student... I remember the drinks being pretty average, with powders for the milk teas and syrups for the fruit drinks (mango, passion fruit flavors, etc). The pearls themselves were also average... From what I know, the owner is a UMass Amherst grad, and when I saw he opened up another Limered near BU I was like meh... I don't trust their brand. read more

I'm always down for bubble tea after a lunch date or night out in downtown Amherst. Up until recently, LimeRed was the only place in this area conveniently located for students to get their boba fix. Service is quick and the interior is nicely decorated with a decent amount of seating for people who want to hang out or get some schoolwork done. I also noticed in the corner, there's a printer for students which is super innovative. I would say the quality of the drinks themselves is pretty mediocre. The taste can vary between visits, I once received a tea with absolutely no sugar even though I never specified a specific sugar level. It is nice that they have other foods and little snacks for purchase. Overall it's a cute tea shop and a nice place to hang out with friends, but in terms of quality it is not the best I've had. read more

Decent drinks and a bonus is that they do soy milk and different toppings. Unfortunately, I've had to stop going because they blast the music so loudly at 12pm that I would be forgiven for thinking it was a nightclub. The past few times I went, it has routinely been so loud that I had to ask my friends to repeat themselves multiple times. If you're one of the poor souls who's trying to read or study, good luck because I don't know how you do it! Really disappointed in Lime Red! I used to really enjoy and today the tea was SUPER sweet even at 25% and when I asked about it, I was told that was normal. She offered to re-make it and delivered the second try with a side of major attitude. The tea was EXACTLY the same. Gosh, there's one thing about MA that makes me jealous: bubble tea. We just don't have bubble tea houses like this in Cleveland. LimeRed has such a cool vibe. It's a mix of people hanging out and chatting, young people on likely first dates from the internet and students working diligently at tables. They have a small but might list of milk and bubble teas. Tonight we opted for the jasmine milk tea with boba and the passion fruit bubble tea with boba. Both were super satisfying, and I love that you can order either at 75 or 50 percent less sweet. We also noshed on a peanut butter macaron because we have no self control, and it was to die for. If it's a nice night, sit on the bench outside and people watch while you sip your boba. The Teahouse is on a great street and there's a lot to take in! I wish I lived closer, because I'd probably visit here all the time. LimeRed continues to be a favorite stop when I'm out here. read more

We were the only customers. My 16 year old daughter, who works hard for her money washing dishes, was treated very rudely since she couldn't afford to tip for her drink. The two teenaged workers took 15 minutes to make two drinks and served people who arrived after us, and were verbally rude when we checked in nicely about our daughter's order. LimeRed and other cafes shouldn't allow their workers to see if and how much a customer tips. This shouldn't affect the level of service, and the drinks are already absurdly expensive. Pay your employees more and train them to be kind. read more

This is really just not it. It has never been. I'll drink Limered because it's the only boba place in the area, not really because I like it. I often opt out of going here but if it's a group setting, I'll maybe grab something. The fruit teas are far better than their milk teas but they're still okay. The taro milk tea is good especially with ice cream. That's the best they have. Limered is really just not good. It is okay at best. Coming from a big city where the boba tea-house market is saturated, I came into this place with low expectations since it's the only place in Amherst/Western Mass. I gave this place the benefit of the doubt. To my surprise, the service and drinks here are amazing! I had the matcha green tea aulait -- nice drink that was a bit strong on the green tea, but the milk balances it out. Also, you can get a kettle of tea if you're spending awhile there. Customer service at its best -- they kept on refilling the hot water. I'd come back to this place to study and love the music -- (it's heavy on the death cab for cutie/hellogoodbye/owl city type tunes). read more

A bubble tea house that actually has vegan milk tea options! Most say their milk teas are made with a non-dairy creamer, but what they actually mean is that they use Lactaid which is NOT vegan. It's dairy milk minus the lactose enzyme. Staff is friendly, fun pokémon chalk drawing on the wall, service is quick and so is their free wifi. read more

I've been bad, I havent been to LR in a while, but finally found the time to stop in again with some friends. I was so happy that the staff remembered me and we were seated quickly. Unfortunately, when we arrived, ice was running low so we could not order slushes or blizzards. we were saddened, but thats ok because LR has a great tea selection too. I've been meaning to try the WOW milk series, so I ordered the green bean wow milk. It was definately interesting. I also tried the peanut seasame steamed buns, SO GOOD. they are not on the menu, but if you ask for it, they will gladly make them for you. my friends ordered a variety of flavored teas, peach, passion, mocha, and grapefruit all with boba or jelly. LR boba is always PERFECT. I'm sad to be leaving amherst in a few weeks, but when I return I'll be sure to make a stop at LR. I'm going to miss my LR staff!!! as for everyone complaining about the wait, yea you have to wait sometimes, but that just means they are putting alot of care into your beverage. I would prefer waiting for a good drink than getting it fast and having it taste bad. quality is what matters! read more

Very friendly staff! I recommend the BLIZZARD! i love ice cream..and i heard there's some of it in here! I got the taro blizzard with popping bobas..(passion fruit, kinda weird mix, shall do yogurt next time+0.25) and lychee jelly. Cool place to chill..it's right in town..which mean it's a bus ride away from campus! i haven't tried the milk tea yet..i'm awaiting for the arrival of the thai iced tea. Usually on weekends, this place is packed during the school year because it's the only bubble tea shop for miles. Since there's always a long line during that time, they tend to run out of boba very often... Maybe a bit too often because every time I go, they always tell me I have to wait for the boba to finish cooking. This is getting ridiculous. Also their boba is overcooked on the outside, but under cooked on the inside, which is very very disappointing if you have to wait over 30 mins for it. Their drinks are decent, wouldn't say it's the best, but it will have to do when you're craving bubble tea in western Massachusetts. The smoothies, on the other hand, are delicious, especially if you add ice cream to it. I would definitely recommend them, but the smoothies are quite expensive. read more

I really liked the contact-less kiosk ordering system when you enter the business, although I wonder how slow a long line becomes with just that system taking orders. No issues for me though as we were the only customers. Great selection of teas and add-ons. I went with the earl gray tea with the fruit at the bottom. I loved the decor - so much to take in. I wanted to look around but was directed to stand in the area designated to wait on orders (even though it was empty) which was too bad as I wanted to take some photos. The tea came out fast. The taste was great - earl grey is a nice flavor. I thought it was a bit small for the price. My only complaint was the fruit was impossible to eat. It didn't come through the straw and was just stuck at the bottom of the cup so sort of a waste. I would, however, stop in again if in the area. read more

My friends and I dropped by Limered Teahouse for some bubblemilk tea yesterday. We claimed an offer of Buy 1 Free 1 from Facebook. Its the 2nd time Ive dropped by Limered, but one of my friend is a regular there. Prices are standard for bubble tea/milk at 3.75 per cup. With the deal, its pretty affordable, coming out at $4 for two cups including tax. I got the Regular sized Honeydew Milk Tea with extra fruit jelly and 75% sugar. It was pretty good. Id like it to be more creamier, but it was alright. The place is really packed (weekend night). It takes about 5-10mins to get your drink. However, it'll be great if they had a bigger place and more seatings available as it was not very comfortable seating 5 people at a table meant for 2. Hopefully their popularity would allow for a bigger outlet in the future. read more

Never order Tea or Boba through this place. They have horrific customer service, the guy who answers the phone is beyond rude and hates his job. An owner/manager who allows someone who has 0 customer service does not deserve a good review. Got a strawberry matcha tea and it tasted like the dregs of tea pot with the 1st mouthful and then quickly went to just incredibly diluted matcha. Got a selection of macaroons as well and they were jarringly sweet and not at all light and fluffy as expected. While was waiting a customer came in and made a complaint as well, their interaction alone led me to not desire making a complaint. Not a recommend at all. read more

I've been coming to LimeRed ever since my sorority sister mentioned it to me back in 2015. Since I had never chosen to try bubble tea before, I was quite skeptical about spending money on a product I have never had in the past. Since then, I have been visiting Joe, the manager, as well as the amazing staff at LimeRed for more than two years, about two to three times a week for bubble tea. They have amazing wifi connection and I happen to live right above their establishment in the Lincoln Apartments, making it a perfect study spot. The staff are always pleasant to deal with and I've had very few poor experiences while visiting the store. Sure, you'll have to deal with the changing flavors and whatnot, but if you're like me and order the same thing nearly every time, it won't become bothersome. I definitely recommend this place to any UMass or 5 College student! read more

I had the taro milk tea, which was really good. Also tried the frozen variety of the milk tea which was even better. I went back a second time because I was so enticed by the macaroon case, and I was not disappointed. The macaroons were AMAZING. I had Nutella, Oreo, and birthday cake. They seriously nailed all three flavors. My only complaint is that the macaroons were out of this world expensive. Over 3 macaroons cost over $9! Was not expecting that. I haven't been to many bubble tea places, so I'm not a great judge. But with the few options in western Mass outside of the malls and a small selection in some restaurants, I'm pretty pleased with what can be found here and at the Northampton location. I started visited LimeRed in college with friends and have continued coming out now and then when I'm visiting my family in the Springfield area. The boba isn't always consistent - often it's firm and lightly sweet, but other times it's a bit mushy and bland. Service is decent - I feel like sometimes you'll be waiting for a little while at the counter before someone offers the simple courtesy of greeting you and saying they'll be with you in a moment. However, your drink is usually quickly made, and my order has always been correct. My favorite is the aromatic, tangy passionfruit, but I also love coconut milk tea and comforting genmaicha. read more
