While staying at the Four Seasons Hotel, we decided to have our Sunday Brunch at the hotel in the Miss River restaurant. What a beautiful area and the staff are so warm and welcoming! Without reservations we were still seated right away. A wonderful jazz duo started playing right before our food was served and they were extremely talented. The biggest plus were they were not too loud as to make conversation difficult. Our food was served hot and very fresh. Everything was delicious! Fried chicken and biscuits were amazing and my daughter ordered the Buttermilk Biscuit Board. Again, everything was so well prepared and absolutely perfect. Me, my wife came to visit New Orleans, which is our favorite food location before the New Year. We decided to stay at the Four Seasons a couple of days because they just opened recently. Got in kinda late so we decided to have something to eat at the restaurant in the hotel. For New Orleans to have such a great reputation and for so many wonderful food locations here this place was extremely disappointing. First of all the server was terrible. She was rude and she was very unhelpful. Secondly I ordered the blackened snapper. It came out with absolutely no seasoning on it for it to be called blackened and let me remind you we are in New Orleans. The oysters were not good and the gumbo was terrible and that is shocking to say seeing how we are in New Orleans, but the gumbo was some of the worst gumbo I've ever had. So overall, this might have been one of the worst food experiences, but absolutely the worst food experience I've ever had in New Orleans, so needless to say we would not ever visit this location again and I feel like they need to get a local Chef that understands the cuisine and flavors that the city is known for especially being in the Four Seasons you expect a certain level and it's just not there. I am writing in reference to brunch yesterday. We had a 10:30 reservation for myself, my husband, and my sister-in-law. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated immediately. A young lady came to our table and handed us a drink menu and a brunch menu. She briefly mentioned that there were different brunch stations included with brunch. We were a bit confused because we did not realize it was a buffet-style brunch only. That itself was absolutely fine and not an issue at all, we simply did not understand how everything worked. I would kindly suggest that staff explain the process a bit more clearly to guests. For example: Are drinks included? Where are the brunch stations located? Can guests still order from the menu? We really were not given much information beyond "there are different brunch stations." One brunch station was outside!!! Thank goodness my husband noticed it, I would not have thought to go outside. The three of us sat there for a moment unsure of what to do and eventually got up to get food because we assumed that was what we were supposed to do. After eating our first plates, we still had not received any drinks. We eventually flagged down a gentleman to ask for beverages, which arrived about 20 minutes later. At one point, my sister-in-law and I asked another server if it might be possible to get scrambled eggs. He very kindly said he was sure the chef could do that. However, we later discovered we were charged $10 per plate ($20 total) for four scrambled eggs. This was frustrating because we later realized the menu initially provided included items that could be ordered as part of the buffet brunch. There was even an omelet option listed, which made the additional charge for scrambled eggs confusing. Throughout the meal, we found ourselves having to stop different employees walking by just to ask basic questions or request assistance. One person took the egg request, another took our first drink order, another took our food order once we realized we could get items off of the menu card and later my husband spoke with a manager, a very nice woman with curly hair pulled back, to ask if someone could help us with a second round of drinks after we had already been there over an hour. She responded that she would notify our waiter, and my husband jokingly replied that we would too if we could actually find one. It honestly felt as though our table may not have been assigned to a particular server, as we received bits and pieces of service from several different people. I have to say, this was unfortunately one of the poorer service experiences we have had in quite some time. We brought my sister-in-law because she had never experienced a beautiful brunch before, and we were really hoping it would be a wonderful experience for her. Sadly, it ended up being disappointing. To be fair, after we finished eating, the manager did come over and acknowledge that the drink service had not been up to par and removed the beverages from our bill. The final waiter who assisted us also apologized sincerely and mentioned that he had removed the drinks as well. That kindness was appreciated and certainly not expected. Please know that I am not writing this in hopes of receiving a free meal or compensation. I live in New Orleans, and I truly want our city and its restaurants to thrive. The hospitality and service at our restaurants are a huge part of what makes this city special, and I genuinely want to see your restaurant succeed. I mean no disrespect with this email. I have simply shared our honest experience because I believe constructive feedback can be helpful. Wonderful food, but terrible service! We were greeted by a hostess who was very sweet and she even took our coats. We felt very welcomed! Mauricio introduced himself as our waiter, gave us water, and then never came back to our table. When someone else finally came over to take our drink orders, she did not look happy to be there or help us. All of our food came out at once. We loved the fried chicken and sauces, wood grilled oysters, dirty rice, gumbo (dark roux was great!), sweet potato bread, and baked Alaska. You can skip the Caesar as it was unremarkable. I found a small piece of glass in the dirty rice, but it was not sharp. I honestly didn't alert them because I felt the waitress wouldn't have cared and that would have put a damper on my evening. We waited a LONG time to get the check and almost got up to find someone to help. We even had to track someone down to get our coats. Overall we received food worthy of the Four Seasons, but the service was worse than at a chain sit down restaurant. We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Miss River, and a huge part of that was thanks to our server, Matt. From the moment we were seated, he made us feel welcome and well taken care of. The blackened snapper had great potential, it was cooked perfectly with the crispiest skin, but the skin was entirely too salty so I couldn't eat it. The sweet potato brioche was pretty good I just personally wished it was a bit sweeter. Creamed spinach was excellent. The fries were just okay, but they come in a large serving so if you're looking to split something it's a good pick. In terms of dessert, the beignets were too dense, but they do come with a nice cream sauce. Recently traveled to NOLA on a birthday trip and Miss River was one of our dinners. Sat outside since it was beautiful weather, and we basically had the entire space to ourselves. Very relaxing space. Service was very attentive, excellent food presentation and delicious as well! They gave us champagne for our birthday, which was super nice! For food, I tried the vegetarian green curry with crab added. It was SO good, but i think the rice portion could be bigger, as that was gone well before the curry was, but besides that, no complaints. My husband and I came here for the first time for our first year wedding anniversary. We wanted something upscale but also different so we decided to try here. The aesthetics of this restaurant is beautiful as it is on the first level of the four seasons hotel in downtown New Orleans. Our server Ryan was amazing and he let us know that the owner of the restaurant was very big on marriage so they gave us a complementary round of Prosecco. Visiting New Orleans from Colorado I am no Cajun expert, but I love this kind of food and for our first stop here this was quite a treat!!! We tried a few different cocktails and all of them were amazing. The boudin was exceptionally good as an appetizer. The gumbo had the best roux I have ever tasted in my life. It was nice and thick, almost to the point of a gravy, and it was taken to a smokey flash point that gave it so much flavor and depth!!! The garlic butter, wood fired shrimp was our favorite entree. The extra butter sauce was incredible with the bread it was served with and over the parmesan smashed potatoes. Combine two of the best Southern items ever for dessert. Bananas Foster and bread pudding combined together in one dish. So good!!! The crispy chunks of caramelized sugars on top of the bread pudding was an added delight. For the 2 people who have read my reviews, you'll see that I went back to the Four Seasons (my first dinner there was at Chemin a la Mer on the 5th floor). This time we hit the ground floor restaurant, Miss River. It's slightly more casual than upstairs and has a great patio with a wood fired pizza oven. Service was obviously perfect (again, Four Seasons). I didn't end up snapping a pic of all the dishes because I was with clients and they were lighting me up any time I whipped my phone out. We started with an oil drum's worth of bbq shrimp and one of the salads (can't remember which one but it doesn't matter, it's salad). The shrimp was better than at Chemin a la Mer, which means to say it was outstanding compared to just excellent. The piece de resistance (goes to New Orleans once) was the main course. The redfish was served in a stew of oysters, crawfish, shrimp, and the holy trinity (what I can only assume is the nectar of the gods). It was so good the only thing holding me back from doing cartwheels around the room were the clients sitting across from me. I got Emily's famous rice and beans as a side and was practically delirious by the time my plates were cleared. Don't sleep on the redfish if you're a seafood fan. Top 10 things I've ever consumed. Finished with some desert and called it a night. I wish Yelp would let me give this a 4.5. Chemin a la Mer has a higher rating but, gun to my head I would choose Miss River over it. Unfortunately, some of the menu items are no longer available typically steer away from hotel restaurants but both of the spots inside the Four Seasons are excellent. Because the items in the photo are no longer on the menu I won't name them but I will say they were delicious. We went to lunch after the spa for my boyfriend's birthday and it was a gorgeous day, so the space was nicely lit with natural light. I would definitely go again but he was not the biggest fan for his own reasons. He's also an impossibly picky eater. The staff was kind and attentive. I came here for my birthday brunch and I loved it! The service was top notch and the food was great! I did a large party brunch so of course my entire party wasn't there when I arrived lol. At first, they told me and my friend we couldn't sit until our entire party arrived so we went and got drinks at the chandelier bar. I am a big fan of James Beard Award winning Chef Alon Shaya, and I am disappointed in our experience at his Miss River Restaurant, the flagship restaurant for the New Orleans Four Seasons Hotel. It was a big miss. We had seven in our group, we were celebrating a big birthday, at an upscale restaurant I was hoping would provide excellent service and exceptional dining. In my opinion, we received neither. I found the food standard, and frankly, a very poor value. For instance, I ordered the Chicken and Biscuits ($35.00). I received a fried chicken wing, a small thigh and one biscuit. The Scrambled Egg Toast ($18.00) was one piece of toast and two eggs. The Pain Perdue ($24.00) was two pieces of Texas Toast and a half a banana. And syrup. The service was hit and miss. The Hostess was fun, friendly, welcoming, acknowledged that we were celebrating a big birthday, presented the youngest in our group a stuffed alligator, and escorted us to our table. Santa Clause was very kind to the group, and posed for pictures. Ms. France provided excellent service, was attentive, responsive, and a pleasure. Our server, Ms. Sarah, was very not present, and ended up forgetting we were celebrating a birthday. After leaving us sitting for a long while, five of the group left the table, and she finally returned with the bill, apologizing for forgetting the birthday, saying "oh, I would have brought cookies or something." We actually waited for her to bring out a to-go box of eight cookies. Yeah, Happy Big Birthday. (Other Yelp reviews mention a glass of champagne and/or beignets for the birthday girl ... while she is actually at the table. Our table was marked by a gold balloon, which the server removed, before we ordered.) The restaurant itself, neat and clean, was far more Denny's in appearance and function than you would expect for a Four Seasons. Did I mention the Overnight Oats Oatmeal was $17.00? Now don't get me wrong enjoyed the meal but for the hype around this place the food was just ok. My favorites were the rolls, the clay pot dirty rice (chef's kiss) and the wonderfully indulgent baked Alaska. This place was AMAZING, in service, atmosphere, and food! We came just in time for the lunch special, and the staff were kind enough to hold our luggage as we were heading to the airport afterwards. For our appetizers, we got the Maison salad that was crunchy, fresh, and had a delicious citrus type of dressing. The gumbo was super rich and flavorful, the side of rice it came with was a bit dry and hard, but eating it with the gumbo helped! We also got the fire grilled oysters topped with spinach & cheese type of mixture that was SO delicious. The oysters were not fishy at all and HUGE. We came here for brunch on Sunday 9/25. Everyone who was not our waiter was kind, greeted us with a smile, and was helpful. Our waiter did not seem to care. He did not fill our waters, he ended up accidently stabbing my husband in the back with silverware, and would not separate our checks at the end of the service. There was only 8 of us and I could be wrong, but the upstairs Chemin a la Mer was able to separate checks so I am thinking if they are on the same payment system, that this waiter just did not want to be bothered. Also, he completely forgot to send out my gumbo as an appetizer. It didn't bother me that he forgot, it bothered me that he lied to us when we asked about it. He told us that the gumbo was gonna come out with the entree. Really? Not sure why the other 2 people that ordered gumbo had theirs as an appetizer. The food, was way over priced for what you get. Drinks were good, but you're paying hotel fee and beautiful ambience - pricing. We knew all that ahead of time but figured since it is a Shaya restaurant, the food would taste good. The shrimp and grits had super thick grits which didn't bother me as much as runny grits but it was unusual texture. And the sauce was just not that good, it was a red colored sauce with a vinegary taste to it. I am not a fan of the shell on when dining in a fancy place but that is a personal preference. The duck gumbo was decent and the only thing I liked about my meal was that it was served with both rice or potato salad. I did like the butter that came out with the complimentary bread. We had ventured around the 4 seasons and it is a gorgeous hotel. If you have a choice between Miss River and Chemin a la Mer, go to the latter. Large menu with lots of eye-catching items! We dined here for a special occasion and the staff and service and atmosphere were excellent. Our meal favorites were our appetizers; we got the Crab and Dumplings and Gulf Snapper Crudo. The Crab and Dumplings were creamy and the blue crab flavor came through. The crudo's chili oil was an awesome compliment to the fish and the mint and basil added a touch of freshness. We also got the Clay Pot Dirty Rice for the table - the liver pate was a bit too rich and creamy for our taste - I think we could have done with it out for the rice since the duck breast is very rich on its own. Otherwise, this dish was good! Two from our party got the BLackened Snapper and a side of the Duck and Andouille Gumbo. We thought the gumbo would be a bit different, it was like rice and then a separate bowl of the roux to pour over the jasmine rice. It wasn't bad, just not what we were expecting. I got the Redfish Courtboullion which was the hit of the table! The shrimp, oysters, and crab were very fresh. I tasted a bit of the chili oil that was used in the crudo and I loved it. For our last full day, my friend and I dined at Miss River to end the trip at a bit of a fancier spot. It was reminiscent of places like Born & Raised or Morning Glory in San Diego -- in terms of decor. Side note: this place is inside of the Four Seasons, which I did not realize until a local mentioned that. Now onto the food! My friend and I shared the Louisiana bbq shrimp, best of boudin and gumbo. The shrimp was very tasty, and the sauce I could have just eaten with rice because it was that good. It came with bread with pesto, which was an interesting combination, but it worked. The boudin was delicious. Why is this sausage SO good? Paired with the Dijon mustard and crackers was perfect. As for the gumbo, it was made with a dark roux, and I was not too much a fan of the flavor. Our server explained the different kinds of gumbo, and I personally like the other version better. For dessert, we ordered the blueberry bread pudding. It was topped with ice cream and it was an explosion of flavor. Not to mention, we were gifted the bread with the cane sugar butter (phenomenal) and beignets. We had mentioned our experience with beignets on the trip, which was unfortunately lackluster, so they wanted to redeem that for us on behalf of the other place, I'm sure! Our waiter (Juan) was attentive, knowledgeable, personable and just such a genuine person! There was no room for questions because he managed to answer/explain everything in detail prior to us being able to even inquire. Fantastic birthday and anniversary celebration! Crab au gratin was buttery and delicious, chicken was so flavorful and tender. Truffle fries were excellent! Delicious drinks. Went to this glorious spot for my birthday and they did not disappoint. Everything from the baked Alaska to the sweet potato bread was spot-on but our favorite dish of the night was most certainly the lamb patê dirty rice. They use the Korean stone pot (ddolssot) method to make the rice both flavorful and crispy. And the beef steak dish dripping in that juicy apple flavor put a smile on the face of a girl who doesn't usually like red meat. Service is 10/10, from the moment you enter till you leave. Everyone has smiles on their faces, like they really like serving their customers. We didn't have lunch or dinner but had desserts, nonetheless we were met with great service. The benignet was good, the bread pudding was incredible and the free bread with the cane sugar butter... !!
