    Vego eggs beni.....Totally amazing!!

This has been my greatest eggs beni experience eva!! Service was prompt friendly and informative as I'm new to town. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented and smelling just divine. Great music and modest surroundings. I'll be back for sure!!

    Chicken piadina. So yum.

So until you've had the chicken/avo/bacon piadina at Miss Jackson, you're basically missing out on one of the most delicious meals in Melbourne. For a reasonable $12, you'll get a delicious italian flatbread presented with a big smile from the insanely friendly staff. Miss Jackson is worth a visit for the beautiful building & impressive magazine collection alone, but you'll just feel so at home popping by here. It's a hidden little joint, but quite possibly one of the best spots in St.Kilda. Many bonus points for the weekly floral displays, too!

We went to miss Jackson on a Sunday for brunch. We had to wait a bit to have a table but it was really reasonable. It's a great brunch option in St Kilda. The staff certainly wasn't on top of everything on that day (we never got an orange juice and an avocado side despite asking for them twice), but the food really made up for it, and they didn't charge us for the missing items in the end. I had the sweet potato fritters, which were quite good. My friend took the heirloom tomatoes and was amazed by the range of flavours. My other friend wasn't too happy about his lamb (I think?), finding it too chewy. Overall, not a bad brunch experience!

Were in the area and looking to grab some late breakfast, and this popped up on Yelp. I'd give this a 3.5 start but happy to lean up. The place is spacious, lots of light, and the tables are big giving you and your friends a sense of privacy. We had a selection of eggs benedict with sides of avocado and bacon, a tortilla informed breakfast dish, and sourghdough with feta, avocado and tomatoes. Also had orange juice, a couple bloody marys, and a flat white. Overall we had a really good, reasonably priced brunch at Miss Jackson. The only reason I'd make it a 3.5 not a straight 4, is at points the staff were somewhat inattentive. The flat white was coldish, which we returned/still charged for. And some people's cutlery were not provided when the meals came, and took quite a while to arrive after asking while we sat waiting. Granted, it was busy, but some places when busy still manage to give that extra smile/attentiveness that makes all the difference But that's all really. Food was really tasty, tables are nice and big, atmosphere is great, and I would return here.

    Ham Hock hash

Go for the brunch, stay for the service. We were greeted by the nicest server ever who was very welcoming and attentive. We ordered the hammock hash and the porkbelly w/ waffles which were both too plenty. Plenty delicious, rich and full of flavor they couldn't have done a better job. The porkbelly was in some kind of sweet chili sauce which would kick any maple syrup out of this world, ha! And the hollandaise sauce was creamy, delicious and perfect balance for the spice in the hamhock hash. Overall great experience and the place made me feel like I was at home although I'm like a gazillion miles away. Tip: portions are large so go with a big appetite or plan to share

Nice to meet you, Miss Jackson! We arrived somewhat early for a weekend breakfast and thus had no wait to get seated. It was a cute house turned restaurant with a cafe up front for take away and seating in two rooms as well as outdoors. The menu was a great surprise, having a whole page of specials along with a breakfast and lunch menu served all day. My dining partner went for the pork belly with waffles, a hearty dish, whilst I had the soft shell crab tacos, equally filling. Both were delicious! The tacos had a light spice and loads of flavour with the crab and veggies. Big serves all around! I was also impressed with the amazing coffee. It was smooth and prepared perfectly. Service was friendly and efficient. The decor was cosy and I could sense a neighbourly vibe as many patrons were regulars. I hope to be too! See you again soon, Miss Jackson!

    The chicken schnitzel burger...gold!

When you get greeted with a smile by the Owner of the restaurant it always sets up a great experience. The warmth of the proprietor, Matt permeates through out this tucked away little gem off Grey st. The decor is minimalist as are the fittings and the menu. However don't let that lull you into some false sense of reality because every item on the menu is full of goodness and packs a punch. We were after something sweet and savory so decided on the home made crumpets with raspberry butter and then followed up with their signature schnitzel burger. Both dishes were divine and couple that with outstanding coffee, where one cup is not enough and service with a smile by all staff and you have the killer combination. Upon leaving Matt took the time to have a chat with us, introduce himself and get to know us. Something small like that really goes a long way and you leave with a real sense of satisfaction. I couldn't speak any more highly of this great place so I will leave you all by saying just head there and enjoy one of the reasons Melbourne is such a great city!

Today was my second visit to Miss Jackson. I loved our food the first time so had to return! We took a table outside but had to wait about 20mins to order. I went into the front counter and was told to wait until they come out to us, I explained that we had been waiting for about 20mins but the guy behind the counter didnt care. After ordering, it took very close to an hour for our food to arrive and we were so 'hangry' that we literally ate it without taking a breath. The food was great, we all had the ham hock but the bad customer service and wait time completely ruined the experience

Very polite and welcoming staff. Food was delicious, however if I could fault one thing it would be the corn fritters were far to dry. Needed an accompanied sauce or something as the capsicum relish on the side didn't have much moisture to it. The granola with fresh yoghurt looked amazing and my friend seconds that. Would definitely return here again.

I first visited Miss Jackson when I had moved to St Kilda for the first time, I think I was about 19 or 20 and I have been coming back to this coffee spot ever since. Being the coffee connoisseur I am I was in search of top notch coffee walking distance from my home (evidently on Fitzroy Street). Miss Jackson blew me away, only a small cafe there is both an outdoor courtyard as well as a cosy interior complete with great atmosphere, a fireplace, and friendly staff. Now I am definitely fussy when it comes to coffee some would say I could live off the creamy beverage if it sustained me like food. The coffee at Miss Jackson is make just the way I like it. Strong, hot and creamy froth on top, pair that with always being served with a smile and probably a joke, it is fair to say Miss Jackson is my favourite destination in St Kilda.

Love the name of this coffee spot

Finally a strong cappuccino that has the right consistency of foam, milk and espresso. I think this place is way better than Dead Man Espresso and St. Ali's and not at all pretentious. I just came in for a quick takeaway coffee because its right around the corner of our French school and it had great reviews. I love that I saw it randomly on a side street hidden away from all the crack heads in the area. Definitely will come back to try the food.

I wish I had started to come hear sooner than I have it was recommended to me by a friend a few months bak. It's a small venue but I love the way they have used there space the decor makes the place have a comfortable feel & the coffee was really nice a little strong for me but none the less I really enjoyed it, if your in the area pop in I recommend it.

    Corn fritters with no bacon
    Jake G.

Decided to go in to Miss Jackson for brunch on Sunday. The place was busy but there wasn't a line to get in. I was greeted by a nice gentleman at the counter who handed me off to another nice guy. I ended up getting the corn fritters with no bacon and a hot chocolate. Both were very good and I would recommend them. As for service, it was great! All the staff couldn't have been nicer and chatted me up being a foreigner. When my dish was brought with bacon, the man apologized and got a new one for me and also asked what drink I would like on the house which was very kind of him. Overall I had a great time at Miss Jackson. The food and service and atmosphere were great and cozy. Would definitely recommend it to anyone in the St. Kilda area for breakfast or brunch.

Their most recent collaboration was Outpost Cafe in South Yarra (reviewed here). The restaurant has installed itself in the neighbourhood of Golden Fields and Baker D. Chirico. Just having these couple of places open up along Fitzroy Street shows that the area is turning itself around from being a grungy backpacker hangout / tourist hotspot to an exciting home of new and upcoming restaurants. It is amazing what the team has been able to do with the space they have. As you enter and make you way through it seems like you arrive in the front garden, walk up the stairs to the balcony or front porch, move into the elevated dining room and from there you have a clear view of the very open kitchen. And by open I mean you could accidentally wander in, no fault of your own and start cooking yourself. I don't suggest doing this as they have everything pretty much down-pat as it is. The front room of Fitzrovia has all kinds of sweets, pastries and pretty much anything you need to accompany the coffee that is a prerequisite when visiting. On both occasions we visited there was a small throng of people gathered just inside the doorway, which you could initially interpret as a waiting line - but as this is still relatively secret spot you can usually find yourself seated in a jiffy. Fitzrovia's coffee offerings are single estate coffees handcrafted by those blokes down at St ALi in South Melbourne. Head barista Cian Evans is a master of the craft and every coffee that we and our friends have ordered has been consistent in its top quality. If you fancy yourself the home barista they have retail packs to takeaway as well. On our first visit we got there during the brunch/lunch crossover. I have slowly whittled down WordMonkey's aversion to pork by getting her to only try the best and tastiest morsels of pig flesh. And when she opts for the pulled-pork sandwich over any number of eggy choices, you know you have not just won the battle but also won the war. And to make matters worse, when discussing what is the best pork sandwich in Melbourne, she has no second place. So that first visit was simply a pigfest. The flavours were all on-song, the pork juicy and flavoursome, the tangy salad exhibiting just the right balance of Asian herbs and apple-fennel crunch. We returned last week as a precursor to one of the biggest race meets on Melbourne's calendar - the Cox Plate - in conjunction with WordMonkey's birthday celebrations. Her and our Bondi buddy got the fizz flowing and it was up to me to ensure the quality of the coffee was still up to scratch - which it was. Showing up much earlier than our previous visit we had less of a selection but this was a blessing in disguise and we were able to hit a few more dishes rather than reverting to the old pork favourite. WordMonkey decided on asparagus, poached eggs, Daylesford dry-cured bacon crumble and creamy goat's cheese, with a punchy fennel salad. While visiting friend had house-smoked Tasmanian ocean trout and toasted quinoa with poached eggs and salad. Rave reviews on all fronts - the only complaint being that the portions were a little small for the price and that we had to order toast to bulk up the brunch. It would have been nice to get toast included. In the end, the toast we did order didn't turn up until right at the end of the meal. But no dramas, removed from the bill, life goes on. I opted for the Istra Daylesford dry-cured bacon, smoked mozzarella and pear relish toasted doorstop sandwich. If anything in that last sentence is not deemed heaven on a plate then I don't want to know you. It is the equivalent pork belly sandwich served at St ALi - same dreamy bread and all. But the bomb was the addition of that gorgeous chewy cheese and the added element of the pear relish. Fitzrovia is a special little place in a part of the city most people only head to if the weather entices them. The hook that will have people returning to this neck of the woods is that Fitzrovia is also open for dinner. In addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner being catered for, the team has acknowledged that with spring here and summer around the corner you may not want to be cooped up inside. So taking advantage of the proximity of both St Kilda beach and Albert Park on their doorstep they are offering 'the ultimate picnic lunch...made fresh on the day using the finest in Victorian produce'. They will even arrange chilled wine or champagne to be waiting for you to pick up at Prince Wine Cellars just down the road.

The mix of pickled onions and English mustard, gave it a nice punch and a distinctive difference to other burgers out there. The fries with it were spot on; perfectly cooked and tasty. I will say, however, that another reviewer (or two) were right when they said the brioche buns were dry and crumbly. I really wish restaurants and cafes would give you the option of a bun. But then Derby Thai moved in down the road, so that helped the Thai issue (even though I really liked the Land of Siam in particular). The next reason for procrastinating about Hide & Cheek was their choice of font in their signage. No, really. Maybe I hang out with too many graphic designers or something, but this is a really naff font choice. Font matters because this made me think this was going to be a really naff place. While I would still love to give their signage and their menu layout/design a complete overhaul, this is actually a nice little local cafe. Inside it is quite light yet warm and cosy.
