Crispy beans quinoa
Sheenal S.

I had been wanting to go to industry beans for a while having heard bout their coffee and salivated while reading their menu but it didn't live up to the hype I had created in my head On a 9am Saturday morning it was quite empty. My brunch date had chosen to sit outside and despite the heating I was freezing. My extra hot skim dirty chai arrived with an espresso shot in the cup and a small jug of chai flavoured milk. Too much milk and not enough coffee as I used the espresso shot all at once. The chai was subtly flavoured but it was one bloody good dirty chai. I got the crispy beans quinoa with avocado and puffed rice. The dish I got had heaps of crispy beans duh that were flavourless. Smashed avocado covered the small amount of quinoa underneath. The one slice of chilli added nothing to the flavour. The dish tasted just like avocado. Avocado bland and no amount of salt or pepper helped. The chilli did nothing. The beans provided crunchiness but no flavour. The puffed rice again added no flavour. Quinoa itself was tasteless. The best thing about the dish was the poached egg. Hmm. For 23 bucks it's not a large dish and not flavourful. My brunch mates shanklish omelette was quite dry with a strong taste of cheese that arrived with some very dry sourdough bread. He enjoyed his omelette but thought it was just ok. Waiter was quick to kick us out despite there being no rush or wait. Hmm Average experience.

On the way to the Rose Street market in sunny Fitzroy when the need for caffeination took hold. Have wanted to try Industry Beans for a while now so in we went. They roast their own beans here and offer a range of preparation styles (espresso based, filter, cold brew etc). You can buy coffee beans for home use too. I had a strong latte (double ristretto based) and it was not bad. Not great either, but OK. The wife had a cappuccino which was served luke warm. The venue itself is warehouse style but smaller, has high ceilings and was very busy on this Saturday arvo. There's also a nice looking outdoor / garden area. Didn't try any of the food / desserts so can't comment on them.

French fruit toast with fruit compote and coffee caviar

Loved my brunch this morning. So much so I had to review it ASAP. I tend to hang south of the river and when i venture north it needs to be worthwhile and this sure was. We had a good mix if sweet and savoury and as per usual shared everything. Have to say the bill was quite reasonable for the quality of food and quantity that we ate. The plates were all quite creative and super happy with the pulled pork how cakes and the French toast was delicious. There was also a side of duck bacon ... mainly due to curiosity and vegetable chips which were served with paprika mayo. My coffee was great and beautifully presented for something as simple as a long black. I wanted something warm on a col drizzly day but did get slight coffee envy when I saw a few people having cold drip. This is definitely the place to get experimental with coffee. The space itself is well designed, large communal tables both inside and out. The space is well lit and quite cheerful yet still ha a strongly industrial feel. Service was exceptional. Patient attentive and happy to answer questions. Didn't have to wait long for food either. Really want to go back and try some other coffees.

Coffee is unsurprisingly surprising. I ordered the signature one - fiztroy street. Strong sense with rich texture. Foods are delicious but its bit pricy for me considering the size. Overall it's a great place to enjoy the coffee

Summer green papaya with cured kingfish! Yum!

Industry beans is a hipsters paradise. Stand alone (intense) coffee menu & slightly intimidating regular menu full of foods you've never heard of, alongside one of the coolest fitouts I've ever seen at a cafe. But don't be afraid - I've honestly never had a bad meal here - in fact, the food is usually delicious. The coffee admittedly can be a tiny bit hit & miss depending on the day but is very good for the most part. The staff are so so friendly & it's quite a big space so can accommodate loads of people which is good because it gets busy on the weekends. The menu is seasonal so it's always changing but the avocado smash is always excellent (and generous with the avo), the burgers are always great & the summer green papaya (with cured kingfish) is a highlight of the current summer menu. Also! You can buy a takeaway meal box which is really reasonably priced & has a burger, veggie chips, a drink & a sweet something all for about $16!! So good!

Mushrooms, poached eggs and truffle foam with GF bread and polenta chips

There is no surprise that melbourners and fiztroyians (?) braved the cold and rain to pack out this very cool (VERY warm), seriously industrial, funky eatery. Dining amongst shelves and shelves of locally roasted coffee beans, this experience is fun to start off with and is lifted by the quality of the food served. So much more than your standard poached eggs on toast the quality of the food here is simply mint. There will be a wait for a table (you have been warned) BUT the food comes out so quickly you will find it hard not to forgive the lovely staff of this establishment. Every element on each of our dishes was on point. The polenta chips are the best I've had! On top of all this the coffee is amazing and there is quite the menu for any coffee connoisseur! And i loved the way they presented my dirty chai...deconstructed! A great experience, both customer and food service. Highly recommend!

A friend recommended this place and we went for breakfast on Sunday after Yoga. Well, I loved it. The place was packed to the rafters as you'd expect so we had to wait a little bit but it was a beautiful day so we didn't mind. It was nice to be out. I ordered the Coconut Crusted Brioche, which was absolutely delicious. The presentation was very nice, visually attractive and added to the whole experience. My Flat White was also really nice. There are plenty of other options on the menu to suit all palate and I already have my eye on the Wild Mushroom and the Wagyu Burger for my next visits. In terms of breakfast in the area, you can't do much better. I highly recommend it!

Wild mushrooms with poached egg and polenta chips

Nothing short of spectacular! Took a nice cycle with my family to this place. Blew me away with the food. There was a 25 min wait but the wait was worth it. Got some water to start then a few ginger beers (unfortunately no alcoholic drinks here). Then started to order. The food came in time and the wild mushrooms were excellent. A good mix of different mushrooms with excellent flavour and perfect texture. The poached egg was standard and watercress added a nice touch. The truffle foam however made the dish special. The addition of polenta chips definitely made the dish special. The polenta mix felt like a nice cheese mix in the chip but polenta is very light so a good healthy alternative but probably the best tasting chip I've had in a long time. Definitely recommend this place although a little pricey was definitely worth the wait and price and would come back here again! Came back here a second time. It was a 30 minute wait for an 8 seater table but were very accomodating in trying to clear a table for us. Got a table with good service as well however the only bad parts of the meal was a few things forgotten such as table water for the table and a ginger beer ordered was forgotten but this time I ordered the Fried Chicken Creole burger. I asked for extra pickles and they gave it to me, excellent. The texture of the fried chicken was soft and succulent while also having the skin being crispy but not falling apart. The beetroot relish tomato seed salad was excellent and once again the polenta chips were spectactular with the cheese mix in the chip giving it good flavour while the aioli sauce that came with it gave the chip extra flavour. The mayo and the coriander in the burger gave the burger a fresh flavour with the juiciness of the fried chicken. Again a fantastic experience and definitely would come back here

First time here, very good coffee and food. Weather was beautiful initially, until we got the food on our table and it started to rain, temperatures just gone down .. not enough heaters at the outdoor dining area . A lot of parkings around the cafe so not too worry. But the waits to get a table might be a problem.

Cold Drip Coffee Pearls
Sascha K.

Industry Beans is an experience like no other. These people live, eat and breathe coffee. Further pushing the creative and fun boundaries of coffee has lead to the creation of Cold Drip Coffee Pearls (have them for desert after you have a filter coffee), Coffee Jelly, Coffee Toffee, Coffee Cured Salmon and Latte Pearls. I had a pour over coffee which does take longer to make, but it was worth the wait. The food menu was quite substantial and equally creative. I have never been so impressed with every item on food menu that I had the confidence to try the most creative item on the menu, the Lemon Tofu Creme Brûlée. Lets just say that I was blown away. Staff are extremely friendly and happy. The one word I can use to describe Industry Beans is Love. If you love good coffee, good food and yourself you will love Industry Beans. Go there now while it is still Melbourne's best kept secret.

raspberry, chocolate and coconut muffin

Excellent coffee and tasty, tasty food! We showed up at noon on a sunny Sunday, which was a terrible idea given it's popularity. However, the staff is on top of everything and we were seated within 10 minutes! The lattes were perfect - not a hint of bitterness. All of the food looked amazing and I wish that I had been hungrier. Instead of a larger dish, I had one of their fresh muffins: chocolate, raspberry and coconut! YUM! The setting isn't as loud as I would expect from a warehouse. The staff is al very friendly on their game - constantly refreshing our water, etc. And there is free wifi, which might come in handy if you're there not during peak times.

Love the coffee here. Had the truffle egg and presentation is on point but the taste might be a little bit too bizarre for me. Have a bite of coffee rubbed wagyu burger from I love it!

Industry Beans is a highly popular brunch spot in Melbourne. In 2014, Industry Beans won the top design award for their cafe interior design and their smashed avocado also featured in lonely planet's book of world's best brunches. The warehouse has concrete floors, wood tables, roasting facilities and open bar where you can see the magic begins. Industry Beans is a huge place and able to accommodate large group of people. They have two separate areas, indoor and semi outdoor. I personally love the semi outdoor area. It was decorated with bricks, plants with shades and big window to enjoy the wonderful weather. Industry Beans are speciality roasters, they are famous for making their own coffee. If you grab a table at the very back of cafe you'll be able to watch how the coffee is roasted. Industry Beans coffee menu is educating customers on various techniques and flavours of coffee available. Numerous brewing methods are available such as poir over, Aeropress, v60, cold drip and espresso based coffee. On weekends they are always busy, come on weekdays to avoid the crowd. All the staff are pretty knowledgable regarding coffee and their food, most of them are happy to explain things to you. This is not my first time visiting Industry Beans and certainly not the last time.

This cafe is off the beaten path, blinked and you will easily miss it…read more Located in a hidden alleyway of Raffa Pl, precisely next to a gas station. From the outside, this looks like one of the crappiest Cafe I've ever been to in the city, but once inside, the atmosphere transforms into something different... The space actually feels like I'm walking into someone else's backyard! High glass ceiling, wooden furnitures, industrial vibes adorned with lush greeneries hanging throughout the restaurant - what a relaxing ambiance and the kind of place that invites you to hang a little bit longer. Originally, I came to try their famous salmon garden entree, but unfortunately they no longer have that on their menu *Sad*... So I settled for their breakfast pasta and happy to say, it doesn't disappoint in any way. The pasta comes in a pretty ceramic bowl, the presentation was fancy to the eyes, consisting of bacon, three kinds of cheese and poached egg. The dish was seriously creamy without giving you that nauseating feeling, absolutely yum! For my drink, I had the hot chocolate and it was a disappointment, slightly bitter, grainy and watered down, should have stick with the coffee, next time. The pricing was quite affordable per my Melbourne cafe standard. The service was quick and efficient, although I feel they kinda rushed you to order. But that aside, what a delicious find!!

Walking behind the Shell service station down a dodgy Carlton alley doesn't seem like a good time,…read morebut Vertue makes the trip worthwhile. Spinning the alley corner you are immediately greeted with giant open doors and polished floorboards, leading to an impressive counter layered with fresh coffee blends, beans barreled up and ready to be ground, and some great looking snacks to go with your caffine. This is definitely a place for coffee lovers, with various batches of beans available for purchase to take home and brew yourself. They also have a lovely seating area with a menu available for eats, but I was only stopping for coffee. And what a coffee it was! Beautifully roasted with a maple finish that made me feel like I was drinking a coffee flavoured pancake. I have no idea what magical method they use on their soy, but it was light, fluffy and sweet. So go down that dark alley and find one of Carlton's finest establishments.
