    Colombian Empanadas
    Maddie T.

The food at Mishqui Cocina is very tasty! We ordered the colombian empanadas, the seafood rice, and the half rotisserie chicken. We were warned that the seafood rice would be very spicy, but we didn't find it spicy at all, I'm not sure if they made it not spicy without telling us or if that's how it is normally served. It was still delicious and very creamy! Service overall was spotty, at times they checked on us too frequently and other times they were nowhere to be seen. Once we placed the order, it did feel that the food took longer than I expected. Regardless, I would return and try one of the many other dishes

i stopped by for lunch during Madison Restaurant week. For $20, it was a 3 course lunch. That was good value for money. Peruvian empanada had a slight taste of pastry, while columbian empanada had a corn taste. I think I liked the Peruvian version. Monstrito was my favorite entree. It was a quarter chicken with fried rice. Chicken was tender and flavorful. Chaufa de pollo was a good fried rice as well. Cappucino Tres Letche cake was a good dessert. Meringue sandwich was way too sweet and sugar like for my taste. Chica morada was an excellent drink.

So glad Mishqui opened its second location in my backyard! Located in downtown Middleton where K Peppers used to be, the new location offers everything the Monona location did, with the same outstanding quality Peruvian food. We got the pescado frito and the fish ceviche and both were flavorful and excellent! Can't wait to come back and try more on the menu.

This a a decent restaurant. The service was very attentive and friendly. The food was nice enough but somewhat bland across several dishes and sides. I did appreciate that the desserts were not overly sweet. The little cookies were really quite nice - I'd stop in just for an order of those.

The food was delicious and the portions generous. The restaurant is cute with Peruvian touches including a full sized stuffed alpaca. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. I had chicken cilantro soup which was piping hot and my husband has a chorizo stuffed empanada with a masa crust for starters. I could not finish my soup and took half of it to go. For entrees, I had vegan portobello cilantro stew with came with white rice and stewed white beans. My husband had rotisserie chicken quarter with fried rice a stewed beans as his chosen sides. They did add 15% gratuity but we gave more. Well worth it.

Cute spot with delicious food and good service. Our waitress was very helpful. I got the quarter chicken with fried rice & plantains as my sides. I also got the pescado ceviche. Chicken was very tender and flavorful! The fried rice was equally delicious, as were the sweet plantains. My friend got the potatoes as her side (I will get those next time). The ceviche was very refreshing. I finished my meal with some chicha morada & it was earthy and sweet. Only slight ding to the experience was that it took quite a long time for our food to come out. But when it did, we could taste the care put into the meal. Can't wait to go back.

Locro de zapallo (front) and chicharrón (back)

We stopped here on our way through Madison and were very pleasantly surprised. My husband is Peruvian and we're always looking for good Peruvian restaurants. We had a vegan chorizo empanada, fried yuca, locro de zapallo with a fried egg, and chicharrón de puerco. Everything was very delicious and authentic. They also sell a lot of very tasty looking pastries and some Peruvian snacks and pantry staples. Very cute place and the service was excellent.

    Seco de res

This place is delicious! I got the Lomo saltado, and my husband got seco de res. Both were tasty with generous portion sizes. The empanada, chicha morada, and thousand layer cake were also great.

Excellent food and service. Try the ceviche! Loved the empanadas, too. They have two kinds and we couldn't decide which we liked best.

Food: A nice selection of pizza, split between ones with and without tomato sauce. I got the Lombarda which has Gorgonzola Cream, Pears and Apricot Glaze and Arugula. My wife got a cheese, sausage, mushroom and onion (CSMO). Both of them came out, pipe hot, with nice crisp crust. Nice presentation for both pizzas. They were both good, but I was a bit underwhelmed with the Lombarda. If it had Apricot Glaze, it wasn't very noticable, and maybe was the reason that it needed a bit of salt to enhance the toppings. The CSMO was very flavorful, and clearly the better of the two. Service: Super friendly and helpful service, both when ordering and when the food was delivered. The cashier was patient and happy to give us advice on what their favorites were. Atmosphere: It's a small place. Some interesting vintage large photo print on the walls. You order at the counter, then take a seat at one of the tables along the left side of the restaurant. It looked like there were as many people picking up to-go orders, as there were dining in. We had so much fun, and we could see that all of the staff were also having a good time. Nothing but positivity, and it transfers into each and every delicious dish! We absolutely loved the complimentary cheese puffs (Gougeres). It was the perfect start to a fantastic meal. I enjoyed a starter of beet, walnut and cheese tart, and my dining partner thought his French Onion soup was stellar. I chose Monkfish stew for my main dish. It was incredible....silky, savory broth with melt-in-your-mouth monkfish plus tender shrimp and asparagus. The bread served with the stew was so delicious to soak it all up. My dining partner thoroughly enjoyed his Bistro steak with king trumpet mushrooms. The mushrooms were so elevated and so delicious. We shared a side of charred carrots and thought very highly of them, too. We closed out our epic meal by sharing one slice of Gateau Basque cake. It was served with a side of a tart cherry compote, and together this dessert was perhaps THE BEST dessert outside of France. Incredible! Sitting at the bar, our server was bartender Nina W. She was entertaining and didn't mind all of our ongoing questions. She added a another level of true enjoyment to our experience. Just as we were finishing up our dining experience the orchestrating chef stopped over to introduce herself. Once Annemarie said her name, I knew she was one of the founders of Lallander and next-door Bloom Bake Shop, having been a customer ever since their first bakery in Middleton. I told Annemarie how impressed we both were with the food, and how all the staff seemed so happy. She said something like a restaurant is only successful with good people. It seems she is keeping her people, and her customers, very happy.

We were ten minutes early and they had just opened - strangely they would not seat us though our seats at the kitchen bar were open. So we huddled on the bench five feet away from our seats. It was not a great start but that was soon forgotten given the rest of the evening was fun. When I went on-line to make a reservation the only seats available were at the kitchen bar - that turned out to be fortunate because it was highly entertaining. When we return we will book these seats again as a couple (if you are with a group it is not a good place to hold a conversation). The bartender/ our server Jackson was super friendly and did a great job answering all our questions as we quizzed him on the action in the kitchen which was right in front of us (it's a small tight space). We ordered a beer and a wine followed by a small cup of French onion soup which was very tasty and a serving of their pate which was also very good. It was good that we had these front row seats because for some reason the kitchen appeared to be running a bit slow so the wait for our mains was pretty long. We did notice that when the owner arrived she started to direct the kitchen staff and the pace picked up! I got the pork tenderloin which was very flavorful and done with a bit of pink so it was not dry. It was a large serving. My wife got the sea bass in a puff pastry which was beautifully presented. The sauce was essential otherwise the dish would have been a bit plain. She really liked it. We were too full for desserts but they looked tempting though they did give us some savory cookies from their Bloom Bakery which is next store. This is not an inexpensive place to dine but it was well worth it. We will be back!

We made a 12:00 PM reservation, which was definitely necessary because the place was full. Right off the bat, our server asked if anyone had food allergies or dietary restrictions. When I mentioned I have celiac disease, he confidently assured me they could absolutely accommodate it, which immediately gave me peace of mind. I ordered a strawberry spritz and we shared the gluten-free donuts to start. A huge win for the celiac community is that they have a dedicated fryer, so we also safely shared the truffle fries. For our main entrees, I had the fried rice which was excellent. My husband ordered the skirt steak hash with gluten-free toast and loved it, though it is worth noting for others that it packs quite a lot of spice. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive regarding the allergy protocols. The overall service ran a little slow, but it was understandable given how slammed they were for the Sunday rush. As an added bonus, the restaurant has its own parking lot, making the logistics seamless. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this spot, especially fellow celiacs looking for a safe and delicious meal!

Since it was nice outside we opted to eat on the small patio which was nice. Our server was was very good and kept things moving. It was happy hour so we ordered two of their spritzes which were $6 each - they were both good (strawberry/ limoncello). Appetizers were supposedly $10 each during happy hour - we got the tempura veggies which were very good. We also got the chicken wings which we later found out when we got the bill that they were not considered to be an appetizer covered by the happy hour pricing (they should make this clearer on the menu.) The wings themselves were good but six wings for $18 was a ripoff. I get it that inflation is high but that is ridiculous... My wife got the fried chicken sandwich which was very dry. This was the same result last time we were here - I guess we should have read our review and avoided it. Overall it was just an OK experience - disappointing.
