We love this local Park Slope restaurant - they offer a fantastic brunch, but we've been relying on them for dinner takeout over the last few months. Each entree (like the shwarmas and schnitzel) easily lasts 2-3 meals! Our family has someone with a sesame (tahini) allergy, so we typically avoid Middle Eastern restaurants. However, the Miriam team is so considerate of allergies (their website https://homemadebymiriam.com/ lists top allergens for their different menu items) and we've been able to enjoy many different menu items without incident. read more

We had a very disappointing experience at Miriam Saturday night. We had a reservation and were sat right by the freezing front door. It was very uncomfortable and we were constantly trampled on by people coming in and out of the restaurant. The quality of our service was VERY poor. I totally understand that it's a busy Saturday night, but even when the rush quieted down our server seemed more interested in clearing/setting tables than helping us. Our food was, sadly, the worst part of the whole experience. It took forever to come (45 min, no joke. We were trying to time our meal before a basketball game) and when it did it was all cold... I think our server forgot about us. The cauliflower came in a mini cast-iron skillet with cold, hardened cheese on top. We asked them to heat it up (our server also disappeared again so it took forever to get anyone's attention) but then it just tasted like microwaved, soggy cauliflower. The pita bread was cold, and so were the zucchini cakes and falafel. The eggplant was below average and also very cold, but it was debatable whether it was actually supposed to be served cold or not because that seemed to be the theme of our meal! The best part was probably the mushrooms we got, those were in a fantastic sauce that I enjoyed. Overall this dinner was just really awful. My boyfriend had been raving about this place for the longest time, too! He hasn't been in two years and was sad to see how much the quality has gone down since his last visit. No one seemed to acknowledge or care that our experience was so bad, and that is the absolute worst way to handle this kind of situation. So you take a puny white wine glass, add several ice cubes, fill it 2/3 full with a lackluster White Sangria, garnish with an orange slice and sell it to me for $11.00?? Jeez. I know this is Park Slope, and all, but you could have at least filled the glass full. That poor orange slice was high & dry--not even making contact with the paltry bit of Sangria in the glass. If you're having brunch at Miriam for the first time, allow me to save you from a noob mistake. When you are presented with a menu here, you'll notice that there is a section with traditional brunch fare: pancakes, French toast, salmon, etc etc, and then one with more intricate Mediterranean fare. Now... you might be a bit hung over and thinking to yourself "uh, I don't want to have to deal with figuring out what a bureka is, or what merguez is, or what challah is... I'm just going to have pancakes". Wrong. The first time I came here I made this error... I ordered pancakes. Yum! The Mediterranean crispy dough truly does live up to its reputation. For $15 the brunch served a huge piece of crispy with just a touch of sweetness flat fried dough with two eggs (I ordered scrambled) and all you can drink coffee. I also ordered a side of bureka (puff pastry stuffed with feta and olives) for $5 because I read such great things about them. The brunch here did not disappointment. The food was delicious. The service was lovely. Our waitress was so friendly. She saw how much my husband loved harissa, so she brought over a couple small containers for us to take home. We ate early at 10:15 and the restaurant was 3/4s full and bustling. By the time we left 45 mins later, the place was full and people were shivering outside waiting to get in. read more

Fantastic Mediterranean fare for a great price! Their salads are fresh and savory, their main brunch dishes are well-seasoned and flavorful, and you really can't go wrong with their cold beverages on a hot summer day. Came here for Sunday brunch and the place was packed. Thankfully, the wait for my party wasn't too crazy, under half an hour around 1:30pm. The host was kind enough to seat us even though not every member of the party had arrived and he seated us in an area that was a bit quieter since the place was SO loud. Food was pretty good overall. The hummus is delicious and you should definitely order that. For my brunch entree I had the Norwegian eggs which were also very tasty. Brunch is also fantastic at Miriam. I came with a large group and got the big table in the front window, so I didn't experience any issues with crowding complained of by other reviewers. I also found the service to have been excellent and attentive. Everyone in my group enjoyed their meals, which spanned the brunch menu from the Americanized chicken sandwich and eggs benedict to aesthetically pleasing, well-portioned Israeli specialties such as the Shakshuka and Yemenite crispy dough with spicy harissa, as well as their sides of Merguez and fried eggplant. I tried the potato pancake with two scrambled eggs served atop and labneh cheese and Israeli salad on the side--a welcome change from my usual brunch fare. The latke was well-flavored, the eggs cooked perfectly, and the sides at the peak of freshness. It was well worth the $1 surcharge for a fresh out of the oven, thick pita, which provided the perfect vehicle for the labneh. The mimosa was very well prepared and quite reasonable considering that it was made with fresh squeezed orange juice, and the Miri Kiri, an interesting twist on the Kir Royale, made with champagne and pomegranate juice, also proved popular at my table. read more

I went to Miriam's expecting a nice time and maybe some food. My friend and I were in the area and decided we wanted to get a drink to cool down. Then, we felt the racism of the staff. We were told that there was no space at the bar (there were 3 stools open) and that we couldn't sit down because of their reservations(it was 5pm and only about 4 people sitting and eating). It was then that we realized it was because we were people of color. My is friend is Black and I'm Hispanic. People of Color, boycott this place. You would expect this in the midwest but not in Brooklyn. Having lived in the city since I was 8 I've never experienced anything like this. read more

The meze menu is basically small plates such as hummus, eggplant, calamari etc. It is all so yummy and the hummus is amazing. We had a rather long day, and when I say long it means I just slept in until 2PM and I was hungry. And we were planning on hiking around the park. We intended on going to get ramen, but they were closed. We walked into Miriam, and it was empty BUT inviting. The staff here is extremely friendly! Made my day that much more pleasant, they seemed like they really liked their job. Our server was really nice and even the busboy was super awesome! And dare I say, adorable. Everyone here was super adorable. I had the eggs benedict, I know-very original. Andrew had the eggplant special. Everytime we go to brunch, I feel like I always get the more tastier of the two..Hello, bacon! My eggs benedict came packed with potatoes, and side salad. So did his, it came with fries and a side salad. His egg plant dish came packed with fresh veggies in a pita. The portions here are HEALTHY. And everything was incredible! We both ordered mimosas, and I instantly knew I'd be ordering more than one. They juice fresh oranges for them! It ain't no high-c or minute maid baby! According to our waiter, they had just juiced the oranges 3 hours ago. Win. I really loved the ambiance, it was not pretentious and they had really cute booths with fluffy morrocon-ish themed pillows. This review is for brunch at Miriam late on a Sunday morning. Because that's what I had. The wife and I stopped in here on our way to the museum and were pleasantly surprised. We got a table right away, even though it was peak brunch season and all you lazy bastards were crowding the front of the restaurant (I saw you there, don't deny it). Despite the mad hustle of the servers, we were kept in pretty good straits by a variety of people who could have been patrons if it weren't for the aprons and the somewhat wild abandon with which they entered and exited the kitchen (I would have hesitated if it was me). The food was great! I had the challah French toast and a side of merguez, and it was worth every one of my fourteen bucks. My wife had a pile of whole wheat pancakes with blueberries and didn't say much because she was chewing the whole time. I don't really drink regular coffee, but the coffee was good. Yep. I'll head back here for wine and tapas some day. You should, too. read more

You know, I really don't get "it" with Miriam. I've read over and over that this is a great place for brunch - for years in fact. Years ago, I came and did not love it... chalked it up to that day and moved on to better and more delicious brunches throughout Brooklyn. On a recent revisiting, it really was the same meh experience. I'm always expecting more than the glorified diner food that is being pedaled out. And I love Shakshuka, but seriously, its better at Aroma. The eggs were overcooked. The crispy dough is good, but not as good as it can be either, very heavy and dragged down by an oily exterior. Service is rushed and a bit all over the place. For $14, I am really expecting more and each time this place falls short. Sigh... I'm really missing something here. read more

Came for dinner with three other girls. I used to go occasionally to the one in Cobble Hill, but that closed a few years ago. Ordered sangria, $28 for a pitcher, which was enough for 1 large glass or a mid-glass pour, with a refill. So that works out to like $7 for a drink, which was good--cocktails are $9. Then we ordered 8 tiny plates which, as previous reviewers had said, are super small. But they're 4 for $12 and everything was really good/fresh--but at first it just didn't seem like a ton of food. But it ended up working out, we considered ordering more small plates or apps, but ended up not doing it. And he didn't get dessert. So we got there at 7, left at 9:30, weren't rushed at all, had a good catch up, and ended up having a dinner for $16 each. Which is awesome. And since no one was especially hungry, I think it worked out well. So, bottom line: It's cute. It's good for small groups. And it's especially good for groups that aren't super hungry--I feel like if we'd brought guys along, they would have been a little WTF and we'd have ended up having to order (and eat) a lot more. But if you go with a bunch of chicks, your wallet and your body will feel psyched the next day. Meh-riam. Sorry, I had to do it. The reviews prove my theory that there is serious Yelp star inflation in Park Slope. If you take off one star, you get what the place would actually earn in a comparable neighborhood. Shakshouka eggs--the sauce was thin and runny and basically tasted like tomato and onion--nothing interesting. The hummus was very chunky--there is way better hummus in Brooklyn. The pita was the biggest disappointment--did not taste fresh. It wasn't bad, middle of the road, but seriously overpriced for food that was basically marginally better than a good diner. The fries were the most memorable part of the meal. Service was good. I'll stick with Atlantic Av for good quick Middle Eastern and Tanoreen for the best Middle Eastern food in Brooklyn. read more

As I have said in my recent review, I would come back for the brunch that everyone raves about, and that I did. Stopped in for new year's day brunch with the bf to a surprise it was jam packed! Lucky for us as soon as we walked in we got a table for two right in front. Score! Looking over the brunch menu I decided on the "burekas" which came with an Israeli salad, labane cheese, eggs and some pita. The bf ordered the "Israeli breakfast" that consisted of eggs, labane cheese, Israeli salad, potatoes and pita. Basically same as mine lol. We also ordered a side of their blueberry pancakes that came with fresh fruit. When I got my dish, I wasn't too pleased. First of all I ordered burekas, what I got was they smallest little puff pastry. I atleast thought I would get two! However, it was decent, filled with feta and olives. The eggs were good and the salad as well. I enjoyed the cheese and pita the most. Same goes for the bf's dish. The pancakes were really good on the other hand. The fruit was super fresh and juicy and the pancakes were made well. I was a little disappointed with their brunch but their menu was also large, so I still have some hope that the other options will be better. I will come back to try some other dishes. What a darn great idea.... This spot is the truth... For only 14 dollars... I had the Herb egg dish with lamb sausage on the side...... Delicious.... With unlimited coffee... My dish included eggs scrambled with cilantro, parsley, and scallions with greek salad, pita bread, and a middle eastern type of cheese... then topped it off with the lamb sausage (Margez Sausage)..... Hmmmm hmmmm hmmmm good.... Result... I cleaned my plate.... My girl friend had the Israeli Breakfast and she sure did clean her plate too.... We both agreed that the food was excellent.... I know I'm outnumbered, but stroller mobs and I do not mix well. My friend and I came here for brunch a few weeks ago, after reading so many good reviews on Yelp. While the shakshuka I ordered was only decent and watery, the hummus was perfect. I'm picky about my tahini and chickpea ratio, and this hummus has the perfect heavy-chickpea favorability. Yay. My friend had an enormous bowl of fresh fruit, granola and yogurt. Lots of brown bananas and apples, which tells me they'd been sitting out a while, and grapes which tells me they're stingy with the good fruit. Sorry, grape lovers of the world - I regard grapes as filler in an otherwise tasty fruit salad, although delicious in some wines. His mimosa was flat but tasted like fresh juice, and my cappucino was really quite good. Service was rushed, but decent, but the two complaints I had were only partially the restaurant's fault. One: There's no wind baffle or vestibule or area to stand when there's a wait, since the tables back up right to the door. Which means that on a cold, wintery day, every time people opened or attempted to close the door, any of the tables near the door got blasted with cold air and then ended up with hungry people hovering directly over your table. Think of it as streamlining the wait, but put in some waiting chairs along a wall and a curtain. Please. Two: Parents with young children should not let their children wander in crowded restaurants away from their tables. While your 3 year old bussed my table with her dirty hands, your infant on the tabletop bassinet screamed for god-knows-what. Have some courtesy for those of us who didn't make your choices and get a babysitter, wait for the brunch rush to be over, take the baby to the bathroom to change them, or teach the kids manners and make them stay with you. Awesome place for brunch. Coming from SF, this is the type of food we should be eating in NYC, since we hardly have anything doing Israeli cuisine well. I had the shakshuka with hummus and tried the crispy dough, which is like a Chinese pancake. Everything was so delicious. The harissa paste was perfect for an extra kick, reminded me of a Thai sauce. So much more to try on their menu that reads delicious, but too bad this place is out of my way. Only came because it was a little closer to Ample Hills Creamery (ice cream!!) and figured why not have dinner around the area so the trip serves two purposes. What I would order again: Falafel - not dry or bland at all. Super moist and flavorful. Only complaint: too small of a portion, but that's expected because they are part of the meze menu choices - small dishes meant to share over drinks, conversation, etc. Like tapas. Green tahini sauce that comes with the falafel. Order extra. Dip the pita into the sauce (and everything else). Repeat. Spicy meatballs - the WHOLE thing, from the meat to the pomegranate sauce was delicious. Cleaned the plate with our bread. What was good but would order something else so I could try more things: Hummus Lamb shawarma - lots of flavors, good lamb, but it ended up being a much heavier dish than I expected. Just OK: Chicken shawarma - the chicken had decent flavor but was on the verge of being over cooked. I will be back one day. 5 out of 5 stars for brunch..service was excellent, yes a bit of a wait but we had babies so they seemed to have rushed to accommodate us, which was very appreciative! Every1 loved their meals (4 out of 4 people and 1 out of 2 babies...) so i have no complaints to report. Having been to Israel, I can say this was basically the same in quality and flavor profile. Awesome brunch. Too often, brunch is brunch, is brunch. You could go to a million brunch spots and they are all serving the same stuff. Not at Miriam. An interesting brunch menu that is a welcome change to the same old stuff. The Israeli Breakfast is very good. It is two eggs with Labneh cheese, home fries, Israeli salad & pita. But I think you'd be better off getting the potato pancakes, which is the same meal with potato pancakes substituted for the home fries. The labneh cheese is terrific, and goes well with the eggs and salad that comes with a lot of the dishes. However, you should really forget everything else that I've just said and order the Mediterranean Crispy Dough. This is sort of like a German pancake, if you have ever had that. A thin, doughy and crispy crepe/pancake hybrid that is terrific. It is served with two eggs, side of shredded tomatoes, spicy harissa & pickles. The spicy harissa has a lot of flavor, and goes really well with the eggs and the crispy dough. Falafel had some good flavor to it. Good croissants, not sure if they are made in house, but they were buttery and fluffy. They pulled apart nicely. I was pretty psyched that they serve La Colombe coffee here (yeah Philly!) Service was on point and super friendly. They seemed pretty busy on a Saturday late morning, but we were able to get a table quickly. read more

Miriam's is an excellent brunch spot in Park Slope, on the corner of 5th Ave and Prospect Place. Miriam's doesn't take reservations and gets busy on the weekends but the wait is never outrageously long. The service has always been on point and the prices are very reasonable. As for the food, I highly recommend the goat cheese salad and the Israeli breakfast. The salad comes with beets, poached pears and pistachio crusted goat cheese. It's a generously sized salad so I usually share it. The Israeli breakfast comes with two eggs (recommend poached), labneh cheese, home fries, Israeli salad and pita. YUM! It's a hearty breakfast and I stay full for hours afterwards. I'm not familiar with Israeli food but Miriam's is so good it makes me want to become very familiar!! read more

Aaaaaamazing! I've been here for brunch and dinner and I haven't been disappointed. Food is fantastic and flavorful. The lamb shawarma was out of this world, bursting with flavor. Came in on Sunday 7/6 for brunch. Food was excellent. Really interesting dishes, well-prepared and served fresh and hot. Server was friendly and competent. Knocking a star off for the rude blonde hostess in the striped dress who refused to seat our party due to the fact that only 4 out of 5 of us had arrived. I get that NYC restaurants need to be on the strict side regarding their seating policies but: 1. The restaurant was half empty, 2. It was super hot and our party included a very visibly pregnant woman. You mean to tell me that you're going to make someone like that stand and not even offer them a seat at the bar or a glass of water? I've seen more civilized behavior on the subway. Hospitality and common sense seem to be lacking here. The hostess finally relented when we bugged her again and things got better from there on out. Again, the food was really, really good. On the downside, the service is somewhat brisk, but most importantly this restaurant has a major identity crisis: while it's menu and the mezuzah on the entryway firmly establish an affiliation with Jewish-Israeli traditions, the one and only kind of meat they serve with brunch is... Hooray for Miriam in my neighb! Lovely resto, perfect for a date. The meze plates and entrees are a little small but quality over quantity am I right?? Burekas -- perfect flakiness, not too spicy either. Roasted marinated beets with green tahini -- it is cold, as beet salads tend to be. Cold and refreshing. Do not get if you're looking to warm up from the chilly outdoors (which I was). ...And I forgot which other mezes we got. They were ok. I mean they were fried. Fried stuff all tastes the same I guess. The striped bass was excellent, but a little creamy for my taste. I def plan to return to take advantage of their happy hour, which will undoubtedly be great given the intimate vibe and HUGE wine selection at Miriam. One of only a few gripes about this place was that on the night I visited there were a few puddles of water at the front of the place, which I guess got tracked and made several wet-but-doesnt-look-wet-especially-not-in-super-dim-lighting mini-puddles around the restaurant.
